soloing help

i know this may sound kinda dumb, but i need help on soloing. i just cant seem to move around fast enough at the bottom of the neck, i can do everything fine at the top, but when i get to the bottom, i suck. i know u guys r just gonna say practice practice practice!!! and i am trying, but i find it a little hard. also i have a tendency to always try to do things fast. when i am trying to learn a solo, i tend to want to go super fast and i am trying to break that habbit. plz if u guys have any suggestions that arent sarcastic, it would be very much appreciated. thx

2 things

when you want to learn something fast, learn it slow first, until you have it down well, then do it faster.

practice, practice, practice

just remember this: 1---2---3---4---1---2---3---4, it helped me learn solo's. Just count 1-4 and play each note SLOWLY, and break it down, play the first bar, and once you got that add in a few more notes untill you have it, also do you down pick? or pick up, down, up, down...?

If you are down picking try to switch, and if you are picking up and down make sure your picking each note right.

Yes, I think economy picking is the best, just do it the easiest way for you, however the down and up picking goes. Thats what works for me, alternate picking excersizes dont seem to help.

I tremelo pick ALL THE TIME! I down pick for some stuff like slayer, but 85% of the time its tremelo picking... and your welcome.

I know what you mean. I had trouble to. Start with easy leads like the beginning riff of Raining Blood by Slayer. Then go to a bit more complicated and enduring leads like in Decadance of Dignity by Falconer or Crystal Mountain by Death. After that, you should probably have a good enough understanding on the concept. I suggest pirating Guitar Pro if you don't have it since you can alter the speed it plays really easy.

Oh ya, and you do NOT want to be tremelo picking the entire solo. You want it to sound as authentic as possible (right?) so unless they are doing that, don't. Still do economy picking though (up down up down).

I just learn it slow, and make sure I know it off by heart. Then I play it over and over gradually building speed. I also have the habit of playing things fast and going mental, but just relax yourself dont get too tense and it shouldnt happen.
But make sure you can play easy solos before you move on. You'll never learn anything if you go straight into fast solos and have no idea how to move on. I started learning RHCP solos first, then I added my own bits to them to make them faster, helped me build up speed.

I am trying to learn to solo properly at the moment too. I find that getting tabs for solos for Guitar Pro 4 is good - cos you can slow them down, get it tight and then notch it up 10bpm etc. That (hopefully) means I won't get too sloppy.

I find the best way to learn, is to chuck yourself right into the deep end and try and learn something fast but easy to understand like 'always with me, always with you' by joe satriani, study that and u'll get the hang of any solo in no time. You could also get a guitar teacher and ask him/her, they could help you break the solo down and help you learn it
