New member with a quick question.
Hi, my name is Joe, and I would like to start off by saying this is a great site. I have been reading a ton of the older posts to refresh myself, and to prepare myself to get my head in the game so to speak. I played guitar for about 10 years, and I suddenly quit like 5 years ago. Don't ask why, because I don't even know. Back then, I played my Ibanez RG 560 through mostly Crate amps. This time around I want to add a little more to my playing. The only thing I kept was my Ibanez RG 560, and a Boss Metal Zone pedal. Within the last week or so, I have been buying some stuff, perhaps older, but new. Here is what I bought:
Furman PL Plus power conditioner
BBE Sonic Maximizer 362 NR
Alesis M- EQ 230
ADA MP-1
ADA MC-1
Boss GE-7
Crate GFX 212T amp
The question I have is this......I have been looking for a good power amp, under say $500.00. I have found a few, but not having the chance to try them out, I am kind of stumped as to what would work well with what I have.
Here are the ones that I am looking at now:
Rocktron Velocity 300
Peavey 50/50
Carvin DCM 1500
I also plan on buying a 4x12 cab, within the next few weeks, but only after I get the power amp. I have always played metal, and will continue playing along the lines of Six Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse and so on. If any one has had prior playing time on any of these power amps, please give me your opinion. If I could test them all before buying, I would. That isnt really an option, so being a bit more informed would really help. Thanks!

welcome, look slike you know what you want to do... i have a peavey classic 50/50 poweramp i'll sell you, pm me if you're interested. it's quite a bit less than $500, 100w all tube.... blah blah...
how are you running all that in the crate combo? are you going through the input or the fx return? you have to be careful of shit like that.
i'd set it up:
guitar-->ge-7--->mp-1--(fx loopout)-- bbe--- alesis eq-- mc-1---(fx loop return)--mp-1----> gfx 212t's fx return or aux in(if it has one).
for a cab, theres the good ol' marshall 1960a... pretty much the standard 4x12... they can get pretty cheap on the used market.

yes, thanks for searching first man, youll fit in here well if you make educated posts like that for your first 25-50 posts, then you can pretty much be a retard sometimes, as long as you dont go overboard and break the racism and other rules. anywho, yes, thats a nice setup, congradulations. Avatar speakers makes some nice cabs, and XDX already mentioned the 1960a. I might also recommend vader cabs, if you want to check em out. Vadercabinets.com

welcome Joe,
I own a peavey 50/50 too, for the cash its one of the best poweramps money can buy, sure there's better but you pay a lot more for those. I'm quite satisfied with mine, though I don't use it as much as I used to because I have another amp now.
As for cabinets, you can't go wrong with Marshall... I have a 1960B cabinet because I like the extra bit of bottom end it gives, the A or B's don't have much difference, the B has a bit more inside space, making it sound a bit fatter, but you won't notice with most amps. the A has an angled front, but the B has its speakers under the same angle, only in a different degree (the A is only slanted from halfway, but B is slanted over the entire front...)
Anyways, you'll be able to get a marshall cab used, you don't need to dish out extra cash for a new one, if you do a couple of gigs it'll get some rock'n'roll spots anyways.
oh and nice job on keeping the RG, from what year is it? and eh, what pu's have you got in it and do you have a pic of it? I have an RG750 from the very early 90's, its build so much better then nowadays RG's.

for real, some people i think are retarded for saving up $600-$700 u.s.d. for a 1960a when i see them go for like $300-$400 used, a minor tear in the tolex an a sticky can-ring from where the dude set his beer or something.
don't be afraid to buy used, always be catious, but never be afraid.

Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand? Lol.
I'm just wondering how you like the MP-1? Does it sound good and does it meet your demands for distortion and cleans?

Well, my GF bought me the RG560 back when I was 19, so that would be......1991. I took out all the pick ups, and installed an EMG 85.....well that lasted about a week. Right after that I installed an EMG 81, and I liked the sound a tad better. It has been in it since. It plays perfect. I only have the EMG in, and the 2 single coils are gone. I rarely used them anyway....lol. I had a Jackson RR, when I quit 5 years ago, and I plan on buying another down the road. As far as the ADA MP-1, I wont be able to comment on that til the middle of next week when it gets here. (eBay). I did however play one when I was younger, and they smoke. I plan on having a mod or two done to it as well. How can you post pics here? Thanks!
