Anyone Play the Keyboard/Synth/Piano?
I got a really crappy keyboard, and I figured I should learn to play it. I seen Children of Bodom and Janne was pretty impressive. I didn't start getting good at guitar until I got some videos, in particular Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock. The first lick in that video is how I learned alternate picking. I figured I should go to a piano forum and ask people who really know.
I go to some forum and these people seem like they know what they are talking about, but most people are in the medical field and some type of X-ray engineer. I really wasn't expecting much when I asked for advice on praticing. I said I wanted to play like Jens Johansson (Malmsteen) and Janne Warman (Children of Bodom).
I get a reply from some guy who heard of both those guys. He recommended some guy's method. There is the Hanon Method, but people there were saying it was crap. In that method, you don't move your arm or wrist, just your fingers, and you are supposed to lift them up really high. So I looked into the other method, but there isn't a book call (I can't remember the guy's name) Method, only books written about him and sound stupid, like the Little Pianists something or other, and the book about velocity.
I ask the guy what book he was talking about and this is when I started getting flamed. On book, the velocity one, at Op. 849 in the title. The guy told me that means there is at least 849 works done by him. I really didn't care. Then the idiot tells me he never actually read any of the books about the method. Then he bitches because I called The Flight of the Bumble Bee a song when it doesn't have lyrics. He said if I was going to talk like that, I would offend some people and I should stop now before that happens.
Does anyone know a good book/video on playing the keyboard for metal (or classical), or can anyone tell me a lick to practice? Should I just practice scales? If I do, what does my left hand play, the same thing just lower?
