Question need amp head cant hear me over drummer

i have a marshall avt 275 combo.i figure i could get about 650$ for it.
i need more power to hear myself over my drummer, especially in the garage.what is a good powerful amp head within that price range.im looking for a good high gain distortion an a good clean too.i figure a good mesa w/e 50.i cant remember its got 3 channels.clean regualr drive and a pushed more modern tone drive.its only 50 watts but its all tube whereas my marshall is 150 but solid state.i already have a 4x12 speaker cabinet with custom eminence speakers for free from my dad.all i need is the head.oh and how much do you think a mid 70's fender bassman 70 is worth.[/FONT]

good luck getting $650 for the avt combo..... i think you're talking about a mesa single recto 50w tube head.... your combo is 2x75w s.s.(1x150w)

the difference in volume isnt much between 50w tube and 150w s.s. maybe a few db's and the 150w s.s. will probably be the louder.

try turning up your mids, that's the main frequencies for the guitarist. not to mention your tone will be really shitty if you don't have a fair share of them.
scooped distortion will sound muddy and unclear which might seem nice at first because it covers your mistakes, but it sounds like ass and you have to get good sometime.

there is no reason why a 150w 2x12 setup shouldnt be able to compete with an acoustic drumset even if the drummer plays really loud. unless of course you scoop your mids or have you volume knob turned down. so my advice is turn up your volume and your mids.

then when you get the money buy a better head.

XdX beat me to it, turn your mids up, trust me ive seen a 30 watt 1x12 combo amp being heard over drums

anyways i had a similar problem, i had a 4x12 and peavey combo and digitech metal master and my mids were scooped completly and the first time my band jammed with that setup you couldnt hear me at all
