A song I wrote
Here is a short acoustic piece I wrote last month. I'm curious as to what other people would think of it. If you can, share your opinions on in it. Do you like the song structure? Should I add a note or figure? Should I shorten the song? Let me know what you think.
It's a zipped .mid file, you can play it on Winamp or using Windows Media Player.

Chris, that's awesome! I particularly liked the sections at 55 seconds and 2 minutes through to the end. A very uplifting piece at first and then the outro section brings us back down again. Very well written and executed.
If I may, I would like to make a suggestion. I'd add a transition between the section where you play just chords and the part at 2 minutes. As it is the change seems a little too abrupt - maybe this is what you were trying to do, I don't know. Perhaps the transition could be slow, quiet and simple with you adding embelishments gradually as you lead in to the outro section. You could also gradually increase the tempo and volume to the one that you employ towards the end of the song.
This is just a minor suggestion though and on the whole I found the listening experience to be very enjoyable. Have you got any more in the pipeline? I'd be interested to hear more.

I have another acoustic piece I'm working on, I'm having trouble hammering down the timing so that the solo fits in perfectly with the rest. The acoustic I'm working on now is far less mellow than this one. It's 100% melancholy, which is rare for my acoustic work. I'm thinking about making some .mid files of other songs, too, but I don't have any solos written for the other songs. By the way, when I say 'other songs', I'm referring to all metal songs, not acoustics. I spend a lot of time banging out acoustic stuff, I should write it down more.

By the way, the abruptness was intentional, but I will try what you said because the worst that could happen is I could say, "well, I like the other version better." I think I'm going to experiment a lot with this one. I'm going to try to midi another track or two as well.

After I heard your piece I played it again and started soloing over the top of it. Good work bro.

Here is the melancholy track. This one is solely for listening, I'm really not open to suggestions on it right now because I have a lot of problems I need to hammer out of it before I even begin to experiment with it. I need to fix the solo especially, parts of it don't seem to mesh well. Enjoy it for what it is- if you can.

I dug it (the first. I haven't listened to the second for reasons that will become clear as I continued), and even liked the abruptness of the change, which made sense to me. But, I was listening to Divine Intervention at the time, and this forced me to pause it, so shame on you. I'll give this and the melancholy one a better listen after I sleep off this drunk. Still, you stopped Slayer without my expecting it, which was jarring.

All right, re-listened to the first and got to the second. I'll go in reverse order.
I liked the second one, but it shows that you're not finished with it, especially in the intro. I liked the riff at 1:20 and the outro one, which brings to mind some of Randy Rhoads' work on 'Diary of a Madman,' which should be taken as a compliment. It's also like a ray of sunshine after and almost entirely melancholy song. I was expecting, based on what you said, for the lead to mesh much more poorly that it did. I like most of it, though I really hate the way it sounds played by a midi.
I still like the way the chords suddenly jump out, especially as they are. It reminds me of the 70's prog rock bands I like. I like the sudden slowing down at :50, and the way the riff sounds like it's building to something before these cheery chords jump in. It all sounds good to me; my only realy problem is how annoyed I am by the sound of a midi. I'd probably be able to give a better assessment if I heard it on guitar, or got used to midis.

I thought the solo worked quite well - I liked the way certain notes jarred and jump out unexpectedly. It also brought about images of the Orient and Fuedal-era Japan - excellent stuff, Chris.

Thanks for all the responses so far, your opinions matter or else I wouldn't have bothered posting this.

very good. the solo in the 2nd song would also sound good with lightly distorted guitar.
