Rack/Cab Questions
I just recently picked up my first simple rack setup and i'm not completely sure what I need to do to wire it together and what are some good cable brands to look into? Also i'm going to be ordering a cab from avatarspeakers.com and how should I get it wired. I'm really confused on what ohms to get it wired to and stereo or mono. The rack gear I have is marshall jmp-1, peavey classic 50/50, and a furman power conditioner. Any help is greatly appreciated.

welcome... nice rig ....
guitar-->input of jmp-1-output of jmp-1----> inputs on the classic 50/50-speaker outs of the 50/50 to the cab(s)...
and of course you plug them both into the power condish.
just make sure your ohms match your cab as close as possible(perfect for best results if possible)
for speakers i can vouche for celestion 2 vintage 30's and 2 g12t-75's in a criss cross pattern. and avatar rocks if you're buying new.
i have the jmp-1 and the classic 50/50.... they sound pretty good together imo... though i'm selling them both in favor of a tech 21 sansamp psa-1 and mesa simul 2/95 setup....
for cables i love my george L's... you can buy a pack that makes up to 5(10 1/4 ends) with 10 ft of cord(more than enough, in fact i had to buy more 1/4 to use up the rest of it) and you cut them to the desired length, with no soldering.... plus they sound really good and i think they won an award in being some of the clearest sounding cables..
also, mogami's and monster cables are good too.
stay away from hosa....
glad to see someone who isnt afraid of leaving the head+pedal world. any other stuff you're planning on getting for your rack?

You'll love the Simul 2:95. I've been using the Mesa Simul 2:90 for about 6 years now, and that mother will pump. If you want the best out of that thing, run your A and B at about 3/4 volume, and then just barely turn up your sansamp. I have the presence set at about three quarters as well. (I run it stereo, so it is pretty nasty...)

On the back of the 50/50 I can set it for various ohms and if I want it mono or stereo. Since I only plan on having the 1 4x12 cabinet for awhile(which for what i'm doing is plenty for awhile) what is a good setting to use? I'm in the dark when it comes to this part. As for speakers I was considering 2 Eminence Swamp Thangs for the low end and 2 Eminence Private Jacks for the mids/highs. They seem to be quality speakers. I've heard the Celestions and I like them but these seem like they would be nice. If they aren't any good please inform me.

I'm really new to the rack world but I figure an eq of some sort would be nice. I've read bbe makes a nice sonic maximizer or a larger multiband eq. I'm not very big on effects, the last amp I had allowed me chorus, flange, reverb, and delay, which I barely touched.

cool, as XDX said, nice rig. an eq would be good and so would a BBE, but its ultimatley up to you. Hey XDX, i know its a low chance, but do you think it might be SKCoffan or SicMetalCorpse redeeming itself?

yeh, i know, my buddy has a jmp-1 + 2/95 setup that totally made me want the jmp-1... but i fell in love with the sansamp...
i prefer the 2/95 over the 2:90 for some reason.... maybe it's the 2 el34's per side running the class A operation while the 2 6l6's per side run in a/b.... the 2:90 is all 6l6's....
not to mention other build properties of older mesas..
i didn't think the 2:90's have been out for 6 years... damn, it's been that long?
with all the changes to my rig i'm going to have 2 extra spaces and a little extra dough, so i can chuck the 50/50 for 2 more spaces(total of four) and then i'd have enough for the 2/95... if i bought the 2:90 i'd still have two extra spaces and that's room for GAS. so the 2/95 will fit nicely.
plus the 2/95 is a bit cheaper used for some reason.

if you have a stereo cab... it will most likey run 4 ohm mono and 16 ohm stereo....
so... if you run a mono signal you can bridge the 50/50(so it's 1x100w) set at 4 ohm and use one chord to hook up the cab or.... if you run stereo, don't bridge it(so it's 2x50w), set each side for 16 ohms and then use two cords to hook up the cab.
either way it should produce about the same volume.
and those speakers should do fine, but i've never played that exact speaker setup, not even sure if i've played either of those speaker types, they're the new eminence line that is competed strongly with celestion from what i hear.... if they suck stick them on evilbay and pop the celestions in.

i love the way the sonic maximizer brings my rig to life... i have both the "bbe process" and "lo contour" knobs up about 11 o' clock... then i use the parametric eq on the rocktron xpression(multi fx unit) to boost the mids a bit to avoid to much scoop.
i also have an ibanez msp 1000 and a rockron hush super C i'm selling in favor of an mxr dynacomp+boss ge-7+isp decimator pedal setup that is going to be velcro'd in the back or the case so i can clear space for the 2/95(it's a 4 space beast.)
the msp-1000(pm me if you're interested in buying it btw) is a three unit in one rack space type deal... section one is a compressor, section two is a 15 band graphic eq, and then the 3rd is a notch filter... each section is bypassable... it's analog kick assness of old school ibanez rack gear and extremely rare too. no digital crap or anything in this. i find it helps me reach more territories(outside of marshall tones) good unit.
but some sort of external device like a parametric eq, graphic eq, or some sort of signal enhancer(aural exciter/sonic maximizer) is highly reccomended if you want more options on your sound...

This may seem like a dumb question but enlighten me please
is it possible to run my line 6 dm4 as a preamp and run it out to a power amp?

i think it's just a line level stompbox, so unless it has an output switch that raises the output level greatly i don't think you can use it as a preamp.
