I like the Obituary/Bolt Thrower sound (Not from Stockholm, but other bands that popularized this sound were) Entombed, Grave, Dismember, etc

That lots of mid and presence tone is liked by me and the other guitarist likes a tone alittle less ear "fucking" as he calls it, But whenever irecord closed mic it sounds like ass should i move it out or should i turn it down or what? Any suggestions for mixing two different tones?

have you got any samples?, cos i cant really tell the differences in ur tone other than 'less ear fucking' lol, whatever that means

No samples but his sounds more like Death (Leprosy) and mine is shredding Mids like Bolt Thrower ill have some samples by the end of the week.

yeah, its an hm-2 plugged into a ss peavey with ALOT of studio magic. oh wait, that gothenburg. whatever, death is like 98236596239529857 better than ATG so just get the marshall valvestate 8100 and be happy.

ATG is gay, but thats just my opinion i hate their tone and thats not really much like Stockholm Death, i meant Entombed, Grave, Unleashed, ETC ETC, also the other guitarist does have an 8100, but Death tone really isn't crunchy enough for me. And yes Death is 1000 times better than At the Gates.

Anyways mixing two different tones isn't to hard aslong as they aint to different. If ure other guitarist has a death type tone and u have quite an extremely more mid tone, just change it slightly to suit each other. When it comes to mic's i suggest that u make sure u have a high quality mic first, then after u ve found that out piss around with the placement. Turning the sound downs not usually a bad idea as this sometimes increases clarity and stuff, its up to you, all i say is experiment with it.

I like ATG better than death

Slaughter the Soul is a masterpeice. Thier tone is also better (Chuck's shitty tone was porbably due to crap production on his earlier albums)

um.... the tone on all of their albums is great, except SBG which is due to crappy but still pretty decent production, hey, it was better than anything venom recorded!

I hate ATG - Slaughter of the Penis; it represents many things i dislike about metal, the earlier stuff is more acceptable to me, but that band just isn't my thing. I liked Scream Bloody Gore's tone to, but Immolation - Dawn of Possession thats where its at in my book, or something similar to that. That would be cool to achieve IMO, sorry if i offended anyone with my comments about At The Gates i just have a seething hatred for them and their Slaughter of the Penis album

Those vocals are like nails across my scrotum I totally hate lindberg or whatever his name is, he is the suckiest vocalist ever. I hate At the Gates with seething hatred for their poppy quasi death wanna be metal album Slaughter of the Penis but i have been told by friends Gardens of Grief and Terminal Spirit Disease is better. O well i think i have the ideas of what i want ot do for tones thanks to all who responded to this.
