thats a totally fucked lineup, when was the last time slayer actually played with another THRASH band, rather than these hardcore coots?

I went to the show in Manchester last night and Slayer absolutely ruled the roost. We missed Mastodon (damn shame) and Hatebreed (every cloud...) due to drinking engagements but then came the biggest travesty that I have ever known... Slayer played before Slipknot.
Now I know that this was a co-headlining tour, but deep down I didn't think that Slipknot would have the temerity to play after such a legendary band who've made it their business to make it impossible for other bands to play after them. Who do Slipknot think they are? Do they think that they could take a show to new levels of awesomeness after Slayer have played?
I think they've been listening too much to those sycophantic record executives who are only interested in album sales. However, Slayer showed these trumped up little mings how to put on a show. They rained down from a lacerated sky with a war ensemble of songs that left me just a tad south of Heaven. Sheer brilliance, sheer class, sheer legends. There was no need for choreography or faked unpredictability, just four guys giving a masterful display in the art of metal.
As Slayer left the stage, I sat down and didnt' stand up again until the show ended. Slipknot where nothing short of abysmal. The opening song was played from a tape over the PA wile the band were not even on stage. Their set lacked any sort of cohesion and I couldn't help but laugh at their attempts to appear chaotic - pretending to fall over, throwing drumsticks into the air and then fetching them like dogs from their crew 2 minutes later. One of them even kicked a drum over and has now entered the Necro Hall Of Fame for his brutal acts.
Then came all the crowd cocksucking, "This has been the best crowd that we've ever seen" enthused Corey. To some extent he's true, the kids who didn't know any better lapped it up and went apeshit. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about Slipknot's performance. Corey's vocals were awful and the sound was erratic throughout. They did excel in something I suppose... their unprofessional attitude to shows - it sounded as if they turned up 5 minutes before they were due on stage and left the sound check to the crew.
The inter-song ramblings of Taylor were annoying and his references to "Man U" were galling to hear for this Scouser. He also asked, "Let's hear it for our good friends in Napalm Death" for no other reason than to shamelessly namedrop an extreme band. He also asked the crowd, "Do you wanna hear something old school?" I sat up expecting them to launch into an inexplicable butchering of a classic Slayer song. Instead, they played that can't-see-California-without-Marlon-Brando's-eyes irritance from way back in, um, '99. I couldn't help but think how apt Mandatory Suicide would be for these guys.
Then came a moment that made me shake my head in disbelief (yes it got worse). Corey suddenly decided to announce that one of Slipknot's DJ's - Craig - couldn't make the show because he needed to go home for surgery, "We could have called the whole tour off" he reassured. Well, thank you for you supreme dedication to the fans, we are truly grateful to your God-like endurance of tough times. It must have been so hard to carry on when one of your most important members had to go home. Isn't Craig the twatish member that hangs around towards the back hidden from view anyway? Did anyone even notice that he wasn't there?
Anyway, despite the abject inanity of that nonet of masked muppets, Slayer were worth every penny of the Ł30 (~$54US) ticket price. That leaves one last thing to say... SLAYER!!!!

No, really, that ruled. Well done! I've heard reports that Slipknot are actually decent live, but you just shattered that theory.

Yeah, I heard that too so I went in half expecting at least a spectacle even if I do find the music somewhat lacking in all departments. However, it wasn't even entertaining. I'm sure that there was a time when their shows were quite incendiary and chaotic but now they seem to have become a parody of themselves.
Everything they did onstage was patently choreographed. Maybe down in the pit it doesn't seem like that, but certainly from where I was it did. Granted, their attempts to appear wild and out of control were quite humourous at times but it's a case of laughing at them rather than with them.
I really can't stress enough how horrible their sound was either - it's truly horrific how a band who can afford the best sound engineers and whatnot can attain such an abysmal live sound. For instance Joey's blasting sections were barely audible and the guitars were just a muddy mess. It's not like Slipknot are new to touring either, they should know - and do - better.
This pales into comparison with Slayer who were professional to the last. The best thing about Slayer is that they also had an endless stream of classic songs to walk hand-in-hand with that professionalism. Slipknot had neither.

i remember seein slayer at ozzfest 02 , they fucking rocked although the sound was weird at donington. Anyways i ve also seen slipknot before at reading 02, i suspect they werent as bad as they are now, but they were watchable as the drummer walked off half way during the set, it was reall good cos we thought they were gonna split up on stage but they didnt which sucks

OH FUCK MAN!! SLAYER FUCKING OWNED IN MANCHESTER!!!!
They were so much better than they were at Donnington!
Fuck man, Slipknot were absolutely average, the crowd sucked, I ran into a pit for "Disasterpiece" but everyone ran away from me
Oh shit, I still hurt from the Slayer pits My mate Alan and I started a circle pit, it was fucking awesome!
Edit: Yeah John, Slipknot aren't as good as they were, they used to be really good, but they've lost their edge unfortunately
I agree, they played everything WAY too loud, i couldn't make out any of the damn songs!

Nothing wrong with that at all, I'd actually be surprised if they did put Slayer after Pantera.

I'd consider Mastodon a kind of thrash. Get rid of Hatebreed and Slipknot and I'd go.

Slayer were crap at Donington, they moved them to the shitty stage. Granted, I did get to see Dimebag and Vinnie again

Yeh no shit..
Its not even worth seeing slayer anymore. After the second or third time seeing them.. their isent a reason to see them again.
They did kick ass at the Extreme Steel tour tough, but Pantera was better
