Nile news
"Karl, Dallas, and Jon are currently deeply involved with writing new material for the followup to 2002's heralded "In Their Darkened Shrines", an early 2005 release date via Relapse Records is expected."
Taken on Nile's official website.
There, John. I'm sure that makes you happy.

I wonder who they'll get to drum. Laureano left, or so I'm lead to believe. Which is quite tragic.

I'm sure we can expect nothing less than excellence...(concerning the album and the possibility of a new drummer)...what a succulant morsal of decaying carrion indeed!!

I've seen this doing the rounds on the Nile boards, however I've not seen it specifically expressed by anyone associated with Nile that Tony has left. I have to admit though that it is highly likely that he has judging by some of Karl's posts. It'll be really interesting to see who they announce as the new drummer - I can't think of many that are a) available and b) talented enough to fill Tony's considerable boots.

I'm not as up on Nile news and lineup changes as some, as I could never really get into them (and yes, I'm open to suggestions if you think this or that song could make me immediately change my mind and take up Ancient Egyptian history with a fiery passion that burns through my loins), but didn't they replace their drummer on their last record as well?

This might be a stupid thing to ask. Are nile of egyptian descent or do they just "loooove the Egypt"?

So far they've had a different drummer on every major album...but Tony was the best, in my opinion and I'm sure the opinion of many others...

Yeah, I've been told he fits in best with the way the band plays, beyond being a fantastic drummer.
As for if they're of Egyptian descent: I don't actually know, but based on their names and the fact that 95% of the people I know with a thing for Ancient Egypt are whiter than a picket fence, I'd guess they weren't. Though I've known Egyptians with names that wouldn't give a good hint to their heritage, and as I said I don't really know, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if I turned out to be wrong.

Listenable Records somehow managed to print up all the copies of the DVD.. wrong. They would only play in a computer. So, massive delay yet again.

the main guy's name is Karl Sanders.....i think he's from South Carolina. I think at one point they did have an egyptian in their band, who's family they used to consult about egyptian stuff. (i think that was Pete Hammoura). I'm probabaly wrong

Disregard that. Apparently, it has been released. Also, it has been sold out. No more copies being printed until 2005.

I think Tim Yeung is filling in on the skins which will be HIGHLY electrifying. As far as Nile being Egyptian it's my understanding that they are all from South Carloina, Karl Sanders just is really into Egyptian and Sumerian mythology, most don't recognize the Sumerian and just clump it together with the Egyptian but he sings more about Sumerian myth. Karl has studied them both extensively and just knows these things.

No Pete Hammoura is also from South Carolina, his family even if they are of Egyptian dissent they aren't the same as the Ancient Egyptians that they are talking about, the Egyptian empire fell to numerous tribes from surrounding areas and totally changed the culture, thats why no-one could figure out Heiroglyphics for so long they had nobody to ask for reference the only figured them out by chance. Anyway point I am making is that Nile is from America.

The new drummer has been announced...
It's a Greek guy called George Kollias. I've never heard of him but apparently he is as good as, if not better, than Tony.

I think he was in a band called Nightfall, if you want to have a frame of reference from which to silently judge him.

I read at the Nile boards that he's also a member of Circle of Zaphyan, Sickening Horror and a former member of System Shock. His appointment seems to have been well received over at the Nile board so I trust we wont be disappointed.
As to whether he is a full time member, that is pretty much up in the air. I wonder why Tony left in the first place?

Because being an extreme metal band means no consistency in the lineup. A member must leave between every major release, or Relapse refuses to release it.

Band sluts like that can't commit themselves to just one band. He's just another Derek Roddy, Tim Yeung (the big two - who, incidentally, have both drummed for Nile are some point) Richard Christy, Kevin Talley etc etc. They get paid a LOT of money to tour with bands as session musicians/record albums.

Taken on Nile's official website.
There, John. I'm sure that makes you happy.

They should get Dallas to drum on the albums and then just hire guys like these to play on the road. That would be great, especially if Dallas is as good a drummer as guitarist (as has been ascerted by Karl).
As much as I'd like to see a stable Nile line-up, I don't think that this George guy will stick around for another album. Just look at all the bands he's been in - and still in. I don't think he'll commit for the long term but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That would be pretty good actually - I like his drumming. Imagine if they could get Flo to guest on an album or an EP or something. Now that would fucking rule this Earth in the awesomeness stakes.

They could but noone wants to work with Jon he is a total asshole and he's a vegan too so that says alot. Great drummer just a douche bag in real life. But I agree with John when he said they should get Dallas to drum on the albums, and go get Derek or Tim or someone who's bad ass. Dallas actually has a band called LECHEROUS NOCTURNE which he is drumming for and they will be releasing and album and play some live shows very soon.
Also Karl does a guest solo on BEHEMOTH's new disc called DEMIGOD, the track is called Xul.
