BEST DISTORTION?
ok ok, im fed up spending oney on pedals every month. i currently have the digitech grunge, which is good, but bot great. ive been looking for a Slayer sound, the live album sound. ive owned the boss metal zone - thinness annoyed me, jackhammer - overdrive was too harsh, distortion - didnt cut/too smooth. ive tried the boss ds-2 - not enough gain, and the md-2 - way, way too noisey.
basically im looking for an in your face distortion, with lots of gain.
what pedal would u guys suggest?

I think this might belong in the gear section but.... id say a good distortion is the Digitech Metal Master. you can get alot of different distortions out of it and they all sound great. its gives amazing highs without sound like shit when you play on the higher frets. I played it through my friends pa system with two 300 watt pa speakers and it sounded awsome.
EDIT: Plus its only about $110 with tax.

yeah good point, soz bout that didnt see the gear section. but yeah the digitech metal master, a had a lil go on it ages ago, but as it was in a music shop and it was sitting next to the amp, so it was noisey, il have another look at it. i was thinking about getting the digitech death metal..

Get away from the distortion pedals all together. If you can afford it, buy a nice amp that will give you good distortion byitself.

Cannibal Corpse just summed it up right there. You could check out a podXT also....I use that with a Marshall AVT50 goin through the effects loop....and it is rather heavy

Seriously, you've probably grown past having to use a pedal and you've noticed how much of them really suck. So. Look at some nice amps and see what you can afford and what not.

Hmm I'm sure how much that is here. But you MAY be able to get a used 5150 combo. You should be happy with that.

yup, plus you can get the dreaded "tone suck" from using pedals without an effects loop.

Mesa Triple Rectifier. Other than that the boss metal zone is good for pantera type solid state distortion.

yea, it sounds fucking sweet. I basicly use that setting and boost it further with effects (chorus, delay, eq) from my gt6 . The amp really sounds excellent, very clear and defined distortion which can get pretty brutal, u just have to piss around with it a bit. Anyways to this Ademus dude, seemin that u have 300 squid to spend, just get a 8100, well worth it, and u can find a good deal, the head usually goes for £100-150 and a 1960 cab £180-250.

effects, not to the extreme can make your solos and shit more interesting, but yeah straight up is fine.
How many of you have tried "orange" amps? I heard they are basically the same as marshalls.

look at digitechs. try out a few and see which one you like, im thinking about splashing out and getting a metal master myself to match my boss MT2.
if you like one pedal and want to add to it, dont buy the same pedal. might make an arse of myself here, but we tried two MT2s through a laney hardcore 150w, the feedback came this | | close to killing the amp.

Yes, thats all you need, straight duncans or EMG's to a 5150.
I bought a Peavey VTM120 and use a MT-2 and noise supressor, with EMG's and I get decent tone out of that, with plenty of gain... the head cost like 150 bucks US or so, and a cab cst me 200, so it was a lot of sound for cheap. Look at harmonycentral.com and look at what people have to say about different amps, thats what I did.
