Drums Beginner

Hi, I've been playing guitar for just over 3 years and I'm interested in starting out on drums. I just want to get a cheap practice kit at first to learn on but it may be too loud because i'll only be able to practice in my bedroom so

1. would anyone reccommend practice pads or do they sound horrible?
2. would an electic kit be usable for practicing?
3. would you be able to play db using an electric kit?

cheers in advance

oh and would you advise saving up for an electric kit or using an acoustic kit with practice pads?

If you are just going to play the drums for fun then i would get an electronic set otherwise I would get an acoustic.

make your own practice pads, ive done this since i was 14, frame it out, all you need is a circular saw and a screwgun. a couple strips of 2x4 and 2x8, use mouse pads as skins, just never use hammer and nails for tiny bits of wood, and with a screwgun you need to use a drill bit to predrill where your screw is going so you get no wood splits. you can design it however you want it and with a screwgun you can change it after its built.

usually id just make a snare and kick and focus on different stuff on the pads, like rudiments and hand speed as opposed to beats, if built well it will be sturdier than anything you can buy also if you get good at it you can stain the wood make it last forever.

if you know nothing of carpentry or basic framing it doesnt matter, just visualize what you want, draw it out and try it,try many times, it'll come along

i cannot stress enough the importance of the crafts woodworking, electrical, mechanical etc. so many people pay others for what amounts to small amount of know-how to do it themselves

if you are just begining to play drums i dont know if you really want to buy a elctric kit... unless you find a dirt cheap one theyre usually not very cheap...if you want, i know around here we have music go rounds or used kits for dirt ass cheap...but practice pads are good but they wont compare...

i'm just talking about putting a 2x4 stem on a 2x8 base, block it up at the bottom with little pieces of 2x4, then you screw in your pads or whatever surface you choose to strike up. is that so far fetched? thats like 5 pieces of wood, dude, snare and kick, save you a hundred bucks opposed to whatever they got at guitar center

Get mesh silencer skins. Same rebound, almost no sound, unlike sound offs, which have less rebound.

nah all you need is a penis, all the wrist technique and exercise you will ever need

seriously, nothing beats real drums for feel, although mesh heads are pretty good, there are other things that comes close, but nothing beats the feel of real skins.
