Custom B.C. Rich
Hey, I'm getting ready to invest in a custom Flying V....(its that time) I was curious if anybody knows the real difference between a Floyd Rose and a Kahler tremolo. The only thing I really know so far is that the Kahler is all one unit, unlike the Floyd. Also, the Kahler can't do pitch raises and drops as much as a Floyd but it can sure as hell change the fuck out of the pitch....just listen to slayer. Any info would be appreciated.

If i were you I would look into Ran guitars. It'll probably be MUCH cheaper to get a custom Ran than a custom bc rich. Ask Soulinsane for pics of his and I'll bet you'll go with Ran.
Anywho. Kahlers are better or so I'm told.

I checked em out. They look cool except they look like BC Rich copies.....I don't care about price...and I've wanted one since I knew what one was. Thanks for the advice though. What do you know about EMG preamps...is it the Afterburner I am thinking of?

Ok, but If you're going to get a Bc Rich V then you gotta get the Pat O' Brien custom. Fucking awesome guitar.
I dont know to much about EMGs. I dont use them.

The last I heard, a custom shop BC Rich will take 12-18 months to deliver, and this information came from the BC Rich-forum administrators not too long ago. If you're ready to wait that long, then all's fine. Some smaller companies could deliver a custom guitar much quicker, but whatever suits you best.

B.C Rich Custom vs Ran Custom.
B.C Rich Custom V cost >$4,000. Made in the USA. Wait time is a year at the very least. Quality is A+.
Ran Custom V cost <$2,000. Made in Poland. Wait time is 6 months at the most. Quality is A+.
My Custom Soulinsane Signiture Ran was made to be a breed between a Jackson KV-1 and a B.C Rich V. I got everything I ever wanted in a guitar down to the very last detail. Ran Guitars were great at making sure that everything was perfect. I don't know if you have seen pics of my Ran but you can find them here. You will find a few things about Kahler bridges too. Imo they are far better than Floyds because they are more stable and don't wear as much. My Ran has a Kahler bridge but has a Floyd locking nut... just like Slayers guitars.

Alright, now I'm trying to decide which kind of wood would be best for my apllication...which is obviously metal. I have heard great things of both Mahogany and Maple. I will definitely have ebony on the fretboard though. Can someone let me know some facts about Mahogany and Maple as to what their tonal characteristics are. I am thinking of like a mahogany body with a maple neck and ebony fretboard on my V....someone gimme some info please.

Thanks for the links Overmind. That helped out quite a bit. I think a maple body with a mahogany top and a mahogany or maple neck with ebony fretboard would do just fine. Now I just gotta figure out the deal with the neck radius.

Maple bodies are only good for 80's hair metal.
Even with the Mahogany top that Maple will still be bright and shrill.

I don't think any amount of money could buy a cooler guitar than that.
I'm still lost on what kind of nut width I should go with, and what the fuck is the fingerboard end?

1 11/16 nut and a square end, unless you want it to look and feel like a Fender Strat V.

Is right! Fenders use a 1 5/8" nut widths and have rounded fretbourd ends ( where the fretbourd ends and the body begins ). 1 11/16 is used on most other guitars like jackson, Ibanez, and B.C. Rich. It feels nice and a square end just looks better.

Looks like a Moser to me. If you are going to buy a B.C. Rich then you might as well have the real B.C. Rich man himself make it. He might even get it to you faster.

I think his start at $2800. It wouldn't hurt to check since I know B.C. Rich is going to charge him $4000+.

Who DOESN'T want a Moser? Damn, the Bastard V is just totally sick, completely mega kickass!!! It might be a bad idea to buy one, though, because who wants to go to work when you could be playing Cannibal Corpse songs on a Moser?

Hey Philkillers66776 or what ever, Why don't you check out Moser guitars? He is the dude that started B.C. Rich in the first place. I bet he could build you a guitar better than B.C. Rich could.

This Is what Specs I have figured for my custom so far:
Flying V
26 1/2" Scale
7-string
Beast Headstock
Mahogany Body w/ Maple Top
Maple Neck w/ Ebony Fretboard
Two-way truss Rod (maybe some graphite to help reinforce it too)
Floyd Trem (preferrably Kahler, but I don't think they make one for 7)
One EMG 7-81 in the Bridge, One Volume
A EMG PA-2 (Active Preamp)
Still don't know what inlay to get
Dunlop 6100 Frets
Blood Red Finish with Black Binding around the whole front of the guitar
10-56 Guage strings....A-Sharp tuning
Thats about it fot now.

So kind of like the Pat O' Brien custom but Red with black bindings. Cool. Still, I'd go with Moser. Fuck YEAH! www.NealMoser.com

I know, Slub. I don't think that I would play it outside the house. It seems they are more for collectors. In fact I wonder if they even play or sound nice. Some guitars are just for looks, you know. I would have to tell Moser that I expect the guitar to play and sound well if I ordered one.

And Phil666, a 7 string with a 26 1/2" scale... Good God! What are you trying to play?

Just death metal...and thrash. My other guitarists has a schecter with a 26 1/2 " scale...and its just damn near the same. Its the BlackJack c-7.....It always sounded great and its no more difficult than playing a standard guitar. Plus lower tunings need that extra inch for better depth and articulation...especially when hauling ass.

I think that they have a 7 string Kahler now, or at least the design has been made. I don't think they are on the open market yet but I bet you could get one directly from Kahler.

You could still find a new Kahler for sale on E-bay and mail it to Ran like I did. Ran guitars look great with Kahlers.

Do you think they can now install a Kahler without any instructions? Frankly, if they'd need help when I'll get mine, I couldn't tell them anything. If they can install a Kahler without any instructions, then I know what I'll be having!

Ran guitars did it with out any instructions, but I did give they lots of pics and desciptions on how to do it. Mine was the first Kahler they ever put on one of their guitars and they did a perfect job. Kahler bidges are easy to install anyway compared to Floyd's.
