the best thing is to have a less noisey rig in the first place....

a power conditioner helps to reduce wall noise.

quality cables in your rig help alot.

also make sure your guitar is properly grounded, and all of your power supplies arent giving you any ground loops and crazy hum/hiss.

gates are more aimed at feedback

noise suppressors(and gates) are usually a last resort/"band aid" for helping in feedback and noise problems but if your using them to heavily some might color your tone or hurt your sustain..

also, less gain in alot of amps can equal less noise.

And make sure that you don't have any florecent ( Spelling ) lights on near by either. Those things cause noise in any system.

Less gain, power conditioner, noise gate, or a new hi gain tube amp

Also, alot of cheaper amps I tried(line 6 spider 2, marshall ss stuff) will produce alot of noise even at low gain. Avoid those amps.

That and computers. Maybe not if you have a LCD or something that doesnt use a shit load of energy. Although, you have to have your computer on to record.

To tell you the truth you shouldnt record with that kind of gear IMO. Maybe save up money and practice before recording.
