i ve been playin a year and 8 months and can play nearly every solo off symbolic by death but i still cant nail perennial quest but thats just to hard at the moment, maybe in a couple of months. Anyways its not solos which you should be judging ure self on, its ure technique, improvisation and actual skills. I might be able to play other peoples solo's but i cant create extremely good ones like them.

^true. solo's is nothing to judge yourself on.
I've been playing guitar since my 13/14th, I'm 21 now, so thats about 7 years, I started taking lessons after two years, so another 5 years with lessons. I started on an acoustic, when I was 15 I got my first electric and amp.
I can play most stuff I want too, except for some extreme shred stuff I really can't nail speed-wise. I'm not a big solo guy anyways, If its solo stuff, I prefer old stuff like Mr Crowley and random Randy Rhoads stuff. its all practisable, but some things just take a long time. Like learning guitar, its not something you learn in a month. but in half a year you will be able to learn a lot. its just a matter of beeing dedicaded and practising a LOT!
I'll give you one piece of advice, learn scales, chords and techniques first, thats a great way to start out, I allready knew all the chords from the acoustic back in the day.
In the first year I played electric it was a lot of sepultura and 80's metallica and Anthrax that I was playing, some with solos, some not. after two years I could nail a lot of them including the solos, but that was all pure practise, not so much skill. beeing able to create your own solo's by picking out a scale and starting from scratch, and making it sound decent, now thats skill and its something you don't learn really quickly.

Agreed,
I have been playing two years and i can play mostly anything tabbed if i practice again and again, but thats not a judge of skill thats a judge of dedication, a judge of skill is writing your own song with killer riffs and solos and if you can actually play it tight.

when i played for a year i could play a shit load of metallica, mostly w/o the solos, but fade to black, nothing else matters, and some others, i could actually play the solos. now ive been playing almost 5 years, and im a hell of a lot better at guitar. but all i do is play so that defies the point.

ive been playing 2 and a 1/2 years, i know alot of songs, from CC to Death to Suffocation (some) but yeah, ive never really worked on solos, but the Solos i do play are more obscure things like the harmony work from erik rutan and weird dark brooding classical stuff... i use the egyptian scale and phrygian scales alot but thats just my style.

woah....your gonna be an orginal musician one day, dont try learning other peoples solos now!
As far as the nile question, i dont know because ive only heard them like twice, but exotic scales are just extractions of the ancient harmonic minor/major/ect. scales basically.

I've been playing for 6 and a half years. I like to play lots of slayer and cannibal corpse because it gives me a pretty good work out on my hands. Other than that I just run up and down the fretboard always trying to tighten up my coordination with both hands,......and I now a lot of techniques, just so I can have my own style.
