Pickups for a (don't laugh) Squier

Last month I bought a squier stratocaster (the lowest of the low) . The neck fells quite right and the action/intonation is also acceptable. Now the pickups suck major ass. When I play through a clean channel they sound a little bit jazzy but that's ok with me. But when i get to play with distorsion the sound is too clean . I want it to be more aggresive , more powerfull. Now what coils should i buy? i now that the squier is far from what a metal guitar should be but hey i'm trying to improve it

PS : don't fucking tell me to sell the squier and get a better guitar because it costed about 300$ here in my country. I want do buy better pickups graduately (one now, one next month and so on) because i have to pay almost double compared to any music shop in the us(fucking transport and taxes).

A mini JB will fit in there and sound pretty good.

I tried a Dimarzio FastTrack2 in my strat, but to tell you the truth I thought it was okay for punk and hard rock but not metal. Plus the tone was not sweet at all. So I would avoid that one.

Have you thought about getting a new pickguard with a hole for a humbucker in the bridge position? That would be cheap, and would let you put in whatever metal-worthy pickup you would want (regular-sized 59, invader, x2n, etc).

A pickguard is very easy to change. Just unscrew all the screw, take the knobs off and put the new one on.

But if your lazy and dont want to do that you can just get a mini humbucker thatll fit into the single coil spot.

hmm that's not what I meant.Screw the screws . It may be nessesacy to carve in to the body and that is something that I won't do . I'll open the damn thing up and see if i can fit a bucker there

A suggestion: Next time you change your strings, you could take em all off at once and unscrew the pickguard from the body. That'll give you a good idea of what you'd be getting into changing one pickup vs rewiring a whole new pickguard.

EDIT: Sorry, guess we just posted at the same time...

what about the hot rails ? are they any good ? as far as I know that's a humbucker made to fit in a single coil hole
seymour duncan says that that's a high output pickup and I think that is what I'm looking for . Higher output

There should be enough Space for a humbucker (the bridge position) in your guitar.
Again, I would just suggest a mini humbucker, like those Hot Rails. They should be fine.

duncan mini buckers....

but we all know nothing sounds at phat as a real humbucker...
you might also try an active pu' to help make up for the thin twangy-ness of the strat body....

I have duncan designed mini humbucks in my guitar. Try to find one of those second hand at one of your local music shops. It will be very cheap and effective.

And the Squier isn't the worst guiitar. There are several Ashton models that are far worse, and I'm sure there are a few other unknown brands that make far worse guitsars.

Duncan designed
Like most said, go for the mini-buckers.
Or you can just get a new guitar

Definately better. The SL3 comes with them too.

You don't want to spend $100 on a good quality pickup to put in a shit guitar with shit woods and shit construction. It will be a waste. That's why I suggested the duncan designed mini humbuck.

a good thing about pickups is that I can keep them on my shit guitar until i get the money for a real guitar. I'll put in the bridge a hotrail . The neck will be a JB . Any suggestions for the middle pickup ? EMG active(it's kind'a weird to put that in the middle )

a little bit offtopic: the squier isn't that shitty. i mean it plays nice and the neck's straight the action ok and the finnish nicely done. Anyway it's still far from a >400$ guitar

You couldnt have an active emg in there with those passives. And as BLS said, JB would not make a good neck pick up. Try JB for the bridge and a Jazz for the neck. (Unless you really want the hotrails for the bridge)

And I agree with you on the Squier. Theyre not horrible. Not that good though.

yeah, and plus if you smash your guitar as part of your act... getting a new one wont break the house.

time for some morbid grave digging
today i dropped in a Seymour Duncan Hotrails in the bridge of my start. it sounds hell of a lot better. Now It has punchy mids and a lot more bass and yeah let's not forget the higher output. This pickup brought my guitar back to life
