Artificial Tortie Picks!
There are picks called Artificial Tortise (tortie) Picks (real tortise picks were outlawed) they are so awesome! They are said to last for 10 years and are $20 it may seem like alot but its worth it! It even makes playing sound better! If you get a thin one it is practically aquvlent to a x-heavy normal pick! I dont think they sell it in many places but i got mine at the Martin Guitar Factory so err... get one if you have money and you dont lose your picks!

Wow, who would spend $20 on a pick. Unless it was a pick that had a tracking device in it so I could find it if I lost it (which I do all the time so this pick would be a very stupid thing for me to buy)
but if you want to send me $20 so I can try this pick out, Ill be glad to accept your money.

Why the hell would I spend $20 for a pick when I can buy Dunlop Tortex picks for 25 cents? With the money I'd spend to buy that pick, I could buy 80 Dunlop Tortex's. Not to be unnecessarily rude, but seriously, which option do you think I would choose?
On a curious note, when you say "tortise", are you refering to tortoise? As in picks made out of Tortoise shells? If so, I had no idea people ever did that. Just goes to show how desperate some people are to go out of their way to unnecessarily exploit animals.

The only thing that would kick more ass than that is black rhino horn picks. People would find a way to do it, somehow! I wonder how much the artificials would cost? Hell, I'll bet the mammoths went extinct because of caveman guitar picks. Who else wants in on that?

Dunlop Delrin 1.5mm's do the job for me. It would have to be quite a 20 dollar pick to beat these 75cent babies.

fuck that, for $20 i'll by a year or two supply of my beloved dunlop tortex .73's....
i get them like $2-3 a dozen.
i don't lose alot of picks, so that isnt really a big problem, but picks get worn down and broken after alot of play.... my band practices from several days a week to several times a day... and we play hard... some times they get all chewd up from slides, some times they're just worn down from struming and fast picking, sometimes they just snap because it's to heavy...
whatever the reasons... a dozen lasts me almost a month... i go through about a pick or two a week from wear and tear... lose a couple, and give a couple away.
i don't have $20 to throw away on picks.

everyone seems to use dunlops hehe.
I lose a LOT of picks, but I hardly break any, they don't wear out either because I just lose them before they get a change to be worn out. I allways have like 20 .88's around just in case. I have a load of random picks in my guitar case too, but at gigs I allways seem too lose a lot of picks and I allways drop at LEAST one pick... which is mostly from fatigue I guess, as in a lot of fast picking and sweeps, sweaty hot stage, you get the idea

The .73s and the .60s are definitely tops. Depends on what I want to play. If I had a box full of .73s and .60s, I would never need another pick again. Mine never snap, unlike every other brand of pick I've ever used (which usually snap in less than an hour). They wear out after a day or two of use, though, because I pick weird. I pick sideways, it's a very bad habit I've been trying (and failing) to lose for the last 1.5 years.

i love em'... i used to play the L cheapo plastic dunlops because they were cheap and i loved heavy picks...
but they sucked because theyd get chewed up so easily(especially from slides) and break really fast, so i just thought thicker picks would do it, so i stepped up to the XL's.... same problem with getting chewed up and instead of the picks breaking my strings started breaking more often and accurate tremelo picking got harder....
then i started playing the tortex's 1.mm, much better sound than the cheapos, didn't get worn down or chewed up as fast and rarely broke, so thought it was great, but tremelo picking problems and string breakage was happening... but then i went down to .88's and it was great, still had the heavy feel but a smoother attack... after a couple months i decided to go down to the .73's... and i fell in love with them, but the way it had gone in the past i decided to try the .60's for the hell of it, i liked them n' all, but it just seemed too thin...
so i'm at .73's and loving it.
i havent broken a pick for a long time, but the way my band plays i do some pretty abusive stuff...
