At The Gates........
This is one band (in my opinion) that everyone must bow down to. Too bad they still don't write music. The other day I picked up one of their ealier cds, The Red In The Sky Is Ours, the recording wasn't all that great but they are good songs. And the vocals weren't really developed yet, but it was still worth getting. But to me their best album and probably one of the best metal albums ever writen is Slaughter Of The Soul, great stuff. Absolutly incredible.

I bought Slaughter of the sould once. Went to the car and heard some of it, i was kind of bored, so i returned it. Almost wasnt able to, but the girl was nice and she let me trade it. I traded it for DT-Skydancer, smart move IMO. I heard how "melodic" At the gates are and all this other stuff online, but i didnt hear so much when i listened to it. Are there better albums than that one?

hah, thinking back, i was being really picky at the time. I guess i didnt give it a chance really. I was looking for ONLY stuff as melodic as like tranquillity, kalmah, COB, and skyfire, and i still didnt have all the albums from dark tranquillity that i wanted. So i went back in and traded for that. I might hear it a little different these days, not sure. Ill have to check out With fear... though.

its pretty hard for me to decide on which atg album is my fav... i love all of them
TRITSIO - Kingdom Gone, Through Gardens of Grief, Windows -this damn song gives me a weird vision of being stuck in an attic for all of eternity eh heh! XD-, Neverwhere and The Scar...
WFIKTBD - Raped by the Light of Christ, The Break of Autumn -UNIVERSE OF PAIN!!!-, Non-Divine -awesome lyrics and what a fucking intro...-, Primal Breath -I love screaming to the fast part after its slows down eh heh-, Ever-Opening Flower -Dunno prob my fav drumming ever...- and The Burning Darkness -the melody is just fricken awesome...-
TSD - erm all of the songs here... lyrically I'd say it's the best Tompa will ever write, and I just love the music... specially the guitars on the live Burning Darkness eh heh...
SOTS - pretty much the whole album too

At The Gates were awesome but most of their stuff was really sloppy sounding in my opinion.

ATG seem kinda "melodic" and "technical", but for the most part they sound like typical black metal with rat screech CoF voicals.

Yeah, but the boy Erlandson drummed for ATG so it could be a possibility. It would be excellent if they did a reunion tour or two but I doubt they'd travel anywhere near Liverpool.

Get their EP 'Gardens of Grief' and debut 'The Red In The Sky Is Ours'.
Also you guys might want to check out Grotesque (pre-ATG) - In The Embrace of Evil.

Man what are you guys smoking. I think "The Red in The Sky is Ours" is definitley thier best album. The mixture of raw metal and occasional violin interludes is fucking awsome. The vocals are perfect on this album, that scream is just so angry. Sounds like a lost soul. Personally, thier Slaughter of the soul album seemed uninspiring and borring. It was the start of the new hardcore trend, that must be why I don't like it. The vocals are more feminine, and don't retain any of that sheer angst. But it's true that this is an awsome band.
