Melodic Death Metal bands
I've always been a fan of Opeth, but other than that all the death metal I've been listening to is pretty brutal stuff. Can anyone give me any help as to which melodic death metal bands are good.

Melodeath?
Pestilence and Death? Anyone ever heard of them? IMO those two bands started the melodic type of death, lots of bands can be melodic without sounding poppy like In Flames and those. IMO Monstrosity is melodic and even old Deicide and Cannibal Corpse it had those humming tremmed riffs.

uhhh pestilence and death? have to disagree with you. what albums/songs are you thinking?melodic death imo = riffs at frets 5-7-5, that kind of thing, lots of harmonies, not so brutal

Another Melodic death thread!
Guess it doenst bother me anyway.
My favorites:
Garden of shadows
God dethroned
everything else from me could be iffy, i dont really consider a band death metal, melodic or not, unless it actually sounds like death metal, as the ones above do. See, i have trouble calling In flames (melodic) Death metal. Death metal for In flames... i just dont see it, thats just me though. Maybe ill think of some more later.

They have more than two albums, they are all melodic but id say Black Earth is the heaviest and most melodic.

dark tranquility

arch enemy (stigmata & burning bridges....later albums are more thrash than death)
at the gates
suidakra
death...cant categorise them in the melodic death bracket, but they were the first ones to incorporate melody into extreme metal

Vehemence is always no.1 in my book. And of course Opeth and Gardenian. Its probally just me, but I don't think The Black Dahlia Murder is that melodic. I really enjoy their music but I can't put my finger on what they are. They call themselves melodic death so I guess they are.

yeah, but windir is more of a black/viking band dont you think? Symbolic is definately melodic, and my favorite Death album. But I think "The sound..." is even more melodic. I just rememberd one of my favorite MD metal bands:
WARBLADE
(see link in sig for details. That is, if you actually are interested in finding more melodic death.)

I dont consider either death metal. I put Symphony X because it is melodic.

Dark Tranquility is the tops for me. I love em'.
Carcass' Heatwork is a classic in the genre.
Dissection is also required listening.

Yeah, i remember when that happened. Or when everyone was informed of it rather. Pretty sad. But i actually found it to be quite a respectable death considering the person he was and all.

Defentely Horrified. My favorite band at the moment. They make a good use of melodic, but still hard riffs in their compositions. Special about their music is, that you only have to listen to the music itself, to know what the piece is about. Of course, the lyrics are very good too, and the topics of which the songs are about a very interesting indeed. Its worth to listen to them, if you get the possibility.

Arsis is a bad ass band. Even though ATG pretty much started this shit, Arsis stomps all over them. ATG X 10. And Neuraxis, melodic deathgrind.
