Tama Rockstar, or if you're a cheap bastard like me, Swingstar is a good starting kit.
Pearl Export, or if you are a cheap and desperate to own a kit, Forum.
Try secondhand too, but be careful and shop with a buddy who knows what he/she is doing.

Yea i was intriged by the exports, but after i went to guitar center a couple times and kept seeing the exprot attract major nu metal crowd i figured it was just a shitty set. Ill check it out. I just wanna know somones opinion on pacific sets, like the one i mentioned.

exports?? SHITTY AND NU METAL????

RAAHHH THOU SHALT BE STRUCKETH DOWN BY THAT STATEMENT!!!

(I play a 10 peice pearl export and it is well awesome)

Pearl exports and tama rockstars are good starting kits, I personally don't like tama that much (I don't like their mounting system) but they are fine kits and I am biased.

Pearl forums: bah! don't bother the money you pay extra for an export will be worth it for the superiour quality and tone you get out of an export, I use mine for live shows and it is fine, I wouldn't really wanna do that with a forum.

as for pacific I have played on them, didn't think they were anything special, didn't like their kick pedals though, I thought they were a bit shitty compared to even to pearls most shitty and basic kick. the only other thing about it was it was a bit ringy it wasn't properly muffled and so went 'boooooooooom' when you hit a tom not 'bm' like it is meant to. I know one drummer who sings pacifics praises, but he was a drum teacher who sucked at teaching (was obsessed with sight reading, nothing else but) he was an awesome drummer though just an arse.

but if you are serious go to your local music outlet and (I have said this billion s of times before) TRY THEM YOURSELF! don't take our word for it, if you like a kit and think it sounds good, then get it I mean we can offer you are opinions but at the end of the day it is YOUR kit and it should suit YOUR style and have YOUR sound.

(ps that doesn't mean you can go out and buy a pearl forum though... )

I want to get an export as soon as I have enough money. I HAVE to get a fucking summer job next year or else I'll kick myself.

I could save up for the axis but i believe taht 500 on a double bass pedal where i am very inexperianced would just be stupid, i was lookin at some of the cobra pedals since they were a little less expensive and i heard had good quality still.

stay away from any ludwig kits. they are shit. unless you spend the 2000-3000 bucks for a real kit.
