Rhythm
can anybody give me some good pointers on how to improve your rhythm. whats some good practise tips ? whats something that i can do to improve my rhythm . please can someone give me a nice specific answer rather then jsut practise which we all know practise makes perfect.

Buy some educational books by Troy Stetina, he's got it all covered. Then get the notebooks (buy 'em or download 'em) for Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood. And use a metronome. Play fast songs like Angel of Death, Raining blood, Creeping Death and Master of Puppets over and over, without taking any breaks. That way you'll develop some serious stamina. Concentrate on the downstrokes, so you can keep going over 200 bpm all night if you want.

youll need a digital metronome for that though.
to improve rhythm, pick some fun/easy/awesome metal songs before getting into the technical decapitated/psycroptic kind of stuff.

i'd advice anyone to start practicing slayer riffs...theyre neither too technical-assed, nor too easy-pussied. imho they are a perfect way to improve both your fingering & right hand techniques.
and sicne you've asked for rythm tips, practice with a metronome...even tapping your foot will do.

Also, if you can afford it, just take a few lessons. Concentrate on how to keep time you can learn the essentials fairly quickly if you've been playing a while, then it's all a matter of practice. Learn a couple different time signatures, 4/4 (common time), 3/4, etc.

As much as you didn't want to hear it, PRACTICE...because practice involves repitition which is essential for developing good rythym/rythym techniques.

I hate to post songs, BUT, learn:
Metallica - Master Of Puppets (if you can play this in the time its played, you are starting to get your rythm)
Death - Intro to Symbolic
Try some old Cannibal Corpse too. I'm not really sure what kind of music you are trying to play, but that should help you. Aw man, I can't believe I just recommended CANNIBAL CORPSE. Jesus Christ, I'm losing my touch.

What I do to practice Rythm, or at least help me develope more interesting Rythm patterns, is to Play straight 8th Notes at 160 Bpm, cutting out a random beat every bar.
For example:
E---0-0-0-0-0-0-0-|-0---0-0-0-0-0-0-|-0-0---0-0-0-0-0-|
E-0-0-0---0-0-0-0-|-0-0-0-0---0-0-0-|-0-0-0-0-0---0-0-|
E-0-0-0-0-0-0---0-|-0-0-0-0-0-0-0---|-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-|
This excersice keeps me focused on keeping the rythm exact and building my right hand accuracy. You can make it more complex if you like, adding chromatics or stretching your fingers and other nonsense. But thats what I do to help my rythm.

Another good bandfor learning Rhythm is Helmet, the album Meantime has some great time signature stuff on it and its not hard to play.
