Well thanks for the advice you can offer. There are these $10 20 packs of randomly assorted beer at BevMo's... but I HIGHLY distrust that. Probably lots of shitty stuff.

And yea, I'm in California. I'll try to read the labels around there and find some local stuff. I'm pretty sure I did see some of those assorted 6 packs you're talking about. That does sound like a good way to get more variety for my money.

Happy drinking

No problem on the advice. Man, California is a goldmine. Have you ever heard of Stone or Dogfish Head?

olollloll. It was not too good. If it makes you feel any better, I bought a few bottles of Trois Pistoles, much better than that Chimay crap, almost black in color, less tart and it was fucking great. Didn't taste like 9% beer either. Plus it's 6 bucks a bottle as opposed to 9. My new favorite over Duvel.

If you mean Stone Brewery Co., then yea. Not Dogfish Head, but my friend says he's tried it.

Tonight I was drinking some Amber Ale from somewhere, and it was great when you compared it to the same company's IPA. Damn... I just don't think my taste-buds enjoy IPA. However, I like Sam Adam's White Ale. I mostly enjoy hearty wheat ales. Blue Moon is a good beer in my book, but I know that there's better (SA Winter Lager beats it).

I've had Trois Pistoles, it's pretty damn good shit. I think it's made in Quebec (correct me if I'm wrong)

Did you buy it in the big wine type bottle?

I know that kind of liquor but it`s illegal here in the most countries. I think in the Dutch area you can get it (wasn`t someone dutch here?)

The only cannabis-thingy you can get here is Cannabis Ice-Tea

Edit: Ha I`m so dumb haven`t seen the "Dutch Product" down on the bottle

Which type of Chimay did you have? The blue is my favorite. Not crazy about the red..which is the most popular it seems.

I can't wait to get home and go back to the Total wine and more place..going to get some Stone Ruination IPA, and whatever else looks good, plus some nice scotch! I wish they sold Great Lakes Blackout stout in VA. That shit is awesome!

Bass - still no great changes in the beer up there? You ever get down to the states? I would rent a Uhaul if you do.

There were a few good local seasons. The microbrewery I used to work at put out 3 friggin' winter seasonals this year! The only one worth mentioning was a 9%abv Baltic Porter. It was brewed with molasses and brown sugar; very good.

Naw, still haven't been to the states yet..my dad keeps talking about a trip to drive to Ottawa to visit my bro/his wife/my nephew and then come back to NS through the states but nothing is set in stone yet.

I haven't been drinking a lot of beer recently due to lack of money/school work. My break from school/St. Patrick's day/birthday is on the horizon to change this though. haha.

Have you tried anything worth mentioning recently?

The one that tastes like diesel fuel is the white tripel. I had the blue label stuff friday and I loved the stuff. Great shit. I'll definitely be buying a few bottles of the blue stuff again.

Yeah, I think it's a liter. It's the only container that you can get it in here.

I should be more clear... I don't hate it, its decent, but there's other beer I like a lot more. I guess I prefer darker stuff.

I like dark beer the most, too.

Speaking of which, I recently tried Guinness. I like the taste that they're going for, but now I want to try a stout that's actually good. I'd totally pick Guinness over something like Budweiser or MGD, though, but it's still lacking loads of flavor.

That baltic porter sounds awesome. Haven't had anything really worth mentioning since I've been out here. Can't wait to get back to the states! Too bad we aren't going to Belgium! We should be hitting up Scotland later this year for a little bit, would rather go to Ireland, but it's close enough.

I tried Delirium Tremens not too long ago and I had very high expectations of. For the first 30 minutes of drinking it it tasted like thick, soapy water. It was god-fucking-awful. After it sat for another 20ish minutes I began to actually taste the beer, but I really must have gotten a bad bottle or something.

I've had the Chimay Red a few months back and it was enjoyable. Not something I'd buy again right away, but it was good. I've been meaning to try the Blue as I've heard lots about it (like that it can be aged for up to 15 years). I love that the Chimays are brewed by a Catholic Monastery. Thats got to be one of the more 'fun' Monasteries in Europe!

Yea, La Fin du Monde is some good stuff! Trois Pistoles is my other favorite of theirs..Don de Dieu (I think that's how it's spelled) is pretty damn good, so is Maudite. Actually, the only Unibroue I've had that I didn't like was probably good, it was just old and not stored properly by the store I bought it from.

This time next month, I'll have already been sitting around and enjoying whatever fine beverages are available to me at my local beer store!

Try Delirium Nocturnum too man!

I kinda like Delirium Tremens, people that don't know real beer get wasted awefully quick if they down them.

On another note, in one month one of my friends got hospitalized from drinking with me and two others threw up

Yeah, I need to give the Tremens another shot. I'll check out the Nocturnum, too.

You should be able to find Fin du Mond, Tranny. I can find it several places around Rochester, at least.

It doesn't sound like either of you have had the same Delirium Tremens I had. Not a favorite, really, but I wouldn't describe it as old bananas or as water.

Yeah, I'm sure my bottle was skunked or something because it tasted shockingly similar to your salty taint (its INSANE this guy's taint!).

I've had a couple bottles of the Red Chimay over the past few days and its fucking delicious. My wallet hurts.

I had some Coastal Fog Amber Ale, and it was okay. I was drinking some bad table wine at the same time, so whatever I still got drunk.

Anyone here ever tried this?

I noticed it when I was in the liquor store last week. It's actually "certified kosher"

Haha it shouldn't taste like that

The Red Chimay is pretty good yeah, I can imagine they cost quite a bit over there. How are the prices for Euro beer there anyways??

I mean we have to pay out of the ass for corona's, budweiser, miller, etc. But ofcourse only a few people do that, like American tourist

He-brew isn't too bad actually. I've only had two different styles of their beer but was a lot better than I was expecting. Definitely worth a try. On the other hand, don't expect to shit bricks or anything.

Def - Beer from Europe varies in price depending on what beer and where you buy it. A small bottle of something like Chimay Blue is probably about 4 bucks here.

It's too bad you guys don't get more of the microbrewery beers over there. Then again, they'd be even more expensive than the bud and whatever else you get.

I found a random ass magazine all about beer at the grocery store today..it's called beer. So far looks pretty good, random reviews and all kinds of other articles.

No duty tomorrow so I'm off to the store later today.. it's going to be a good night! Going to a gun show in a few hours..might buy an AR-15.

Oh well..probably should do a little more homework on what exactly I want to get anyway.

Sounds like one of those seasonal blue moon beers. had some Magic Hat HIPA earlier and my first Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout in a while..it was great! The HIPA is also really good.. great flavor and pretty easy drinking..it is pretty hoppy but not enough to bite your tastebuds off.

I'm gonna try to get some sort of Trappist over at BevMo's tomorrow. The two I'm looking for got an A and A+ on BeerAdvocate, so I'm looking forward to them.

Rising Moon is good. For American's it is basically a non-domestic version of Blue Light with Lime, except it's good.

What, did you guys all sober up? Went to the store today and bought two large bottles of Tripel Karmeliet. Damn this stuff is good! It has worked it's way into my top beers..not sure where, but somewhere up there. Great stuff.

Also got a mix 6 pack..a Sierra Nevada ESB (new, never had it before), Young's Double Chocolate Stout, Lion Stout, and three others that I'm drawing a blank on right now.

It's from Sri Lanka. I've never had it before, nor have I seen it on sale. On the back of the bottle, there's a pic of Micheal Jackson and a quote about how good it is..so I'm thinking it's going to be pretty good.

Yea, that double chocolate stout is great stuff! Hadn't had it in a while so I grabbed one..it was the tall can..not the bottle though.

Yeah, MJ had some sort of endorsement with that company, so I've heard.

Fucking great beer though! I had one from a beer trade some time ago.

I think it`s great to enjoy the taste of beer and not to get drunk. Duckstein is a very popular brewery here. And Holsten is the beer of the homeless

Has anyone tried Dicken's cider? I think it's actually a pear cider, not sure where it originated though. Quite tasty, although it's fairly potent compared to others.

Yep, my mum sure loves a nice stiff, frothy Dicken's cider first thing in the morning, and again at lunch. I often times watch as she enjoys having a Dicken's cider, and there's no doubt about it, she loves a Dicken's cider. I have to keep an eye on my own though, because it wouldn't be the first time she tried to have MY Dicken's cider! I also understand that blitz's girlfriend is quite fond my Dicken's cider, too. I have to make sure there's plenty of it when she comes over, because she usually wants ALL of my Dicken's cider!

L,B'XXX recently told me how she isn't content unless she's had a massive Dicken's cider at least once a day, and usually before church so that she can pray for forgiveness for her love of having a Dicken's cider. There's no shame in it, L,B'XXX, every woman needs a Dicken's cider at some point, if only to wash away the dusty cobwebs and put a glint in her eye. Suck back that savoury, sticky nectar and have no shame, for it is every woman's privilege - no, RIGHT - to have a nice, sticky, oozing, bubbling, foaming Dicken's cider whenever the fuck she pleases.

Dicken's cider.

I only have one thing to say to you, Paddy. IS MY HAT DONE YET? No wedding with no hat!!!
You just go on and keep your Dicken's cider! See if I care! I suppose you're going to want Dicken's cider right out in public. You have Dicken's cider all over your house. Can you imagine what your neighbors are saying?
"Oh, there goes Paddy with another Dicken's cider. I think he's had more Dicken's cider than anyone else on the whole street!"
" Yeah, my husband keeps saying he wants Dicken's cider now because of Paddy."
"He's such a menace 2 society with his Dicken's cider."
"One Dicken's cider and the whole neighborhood has depreciated."

Do you really think it would be a good idea for Paddy to drink? C'mon now. That's just asking for total insanity.

hey BB what did you need to do to set up your little beer basement thing? is it literally just shelves or is there more to it? no idea what the temp is down there, cooler than the house but i doubt its cool enough to serve straight from the basement

I can never go back there. Remember the Birmingham riots? Well, while they were going on I was teaching a monkey to suck my ass-milk, and it ended up running away and sucking the ass-milk of the mayor, and the monkey ratted me out by using the sign language translator glove from the movie "Congo", resulting in my permanent ban from the area. I really shouldn't have taught that furry cunt how to both use sign language and use the word-glove, I definitely think that was my downfall.

When I drink I tend to find older Ohio women attractive, despite any prior knowledge. But if you dont want my massive, hulking cock then that's just fine, I won't drink ever again!

Trust me, there's very little that's produced by America which doesn't end up here, and that includes fat women and beer, the combnation of which is essential for the smooth running of any society

That ruling was thrown out by Judge Fucknut McMullan III - no relation. He's definitely not the uncle who made me suck him off at Christmas and his ruling in my favour didn't make us even, because nothing happened anyway and he's not even my uncle so I don't know why the fuck you even brought it up.

So that's why my neighbor's chicken finally laid an egg! You keep your massive rooster over there. She said that eggshell was rock hard. Poor hen. I think she had a heart attack after laying that one.

Paddy, go play outside.

We had a beer festival last week here in Montreal, there were thousand of beer

I recommand these: L'aphrodisiaque: chocolate and vanilla stout, not too sweet and not too bitter, it's just the perfect orgasm, better than sex!!! If you can find this out, jump on it

2- Rosée d'hibiscus: it's a fruity beer, based on a white beer receipe and mixed with hibiscus flowers. as for the other one above, it's an orgasm!!!

Those two are in the same company, it will probably be hard to find for you but, if one day you see these, take them, you wont regret!

Chocolate stout is great!!! Have you ever tried Young's Double Chocolate Stout? (British) Or Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout? (American)

Is L'aphrodisiaque French for Aphrodisiac?

Oh, and Bob... NOTHING is better than sex haha

True, English mostly came from Latin, French and German I think. But you're also forgetting that the French language is also a descendant of Latin, and that its development was also influenced by the native Celtic languages of Roman Gaul and by the Germanic language of the post-Roman Frankish invaders.

So neither English or French are "original" languages, but mixtures of earlier European languages

Yeah totally, your syntaxe is germanic with latin words and our syntaxe is latin with a mix of germanic languages and celtics. Old french is unreadable and got no personnality, it seems like english and french both had a big evolution together, i might be wrong!

Negative. I've been to the UK once..sorta and not Ireland, but I've been elsewhere in Europe and other countries and basically NONE of our micro-brewered beers make it across the pond. You guys are truly missing out.

This actually did happen.

Hey Bob, when are you coming to NS so we can recreate that moment?

I'm probably going to take a little roadtrip to New Brunswick this summer, maybe go as far as PEI..come onnnnnnnnnnnn, meet up and have a beer with the crew.

I want to go back to Montreal again soon though, it's an awesome city..minus all of the French assholes of course.

St Ambroise is still nice though. Can you get other stuff from quebec? i mean other than unibroue and st ambroise and obviously labatt company?

America does get a bad rep for have 'terrible' beer. People who believe this stereotype are just uninformed. Just like Canada isn't strictly Molson, Labatt, Moosehead, ect. And besides, Budweiser is now owned by the Belgians. Are all Belgian beers bad?

Go microbreweries!

Man, I just found out the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission(government liquor store) is now again carrying Sam Adams Boston Lager...at $15.99cdn after taxes! That is fucking criminal! That markup is insane..like Sam Adams doesn't brew enough beer to make that cheaper.

Anyways, if anyone is still thinking about moving to Canada someday, I hope you are a Mormon. The price of cigarettes and alcohol will leave you a poor man.

haha taxed for Air-conditioned cars? Not here my friend.

It is true about the free health care. People with terminal illnesses for the large part don't pay a cent for medications/hospital visits/treatments.

Although, I will still complain about our beer prices.

i was going by what wiki said
Quote:
Both the federal and provincial governments impose excise taxes on inelastic goods such as cigarettes, gasoline, alcohol, and for vehicle air conditioners. A great bulk of the retail price of cigarettes and alcohol are excise taxes. The vehicle air conditioner tax is currently set at $100 per air conditioning unit.

damn, here in America we can have a good night out for $20 or even less if you go to the right place. At some bars when i was at college, they would have 'penny pitcher night', which was, as it sounds, a penny for a pitcher of beer, and the cover charge was $5. So you pay $5 and maybe a few extra dollars (for tips for the bartenders) and you're fucking loaded. Even where i'm living now, a draft beer at the bar only costs $1.50.

Jesus Christ that sounds awesome. A beer on tap here costs about $4.25 for domestic beer, and about $5.75 for imported

A pitcher of Guinness costs around $15
