I didn't bother trying it anyways, but I did buy a bottle of Forty Creek. It's fucking great. It totally pwns Crown Royal and Wisers IMO. Thanks for recommending it!

Drinking some Glenlivet French Oak Reserve 15yo. Pretty tasty stuff..no ice or water mixed in..just room temperature in as close to a snifter as I have right now. Also picked up several good beers...some Corsendonk Abbey Brown, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, and a number of others..including that new Budweiser Ale. Heh..not expecting much but I figured "Hell, they are trying, I'll give it a shot before I knock it completely."

It's nice living in a city that has a Total Wine and More again!

I paid $18.99 for a bottle of this tonight:

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/358

Rogue Imperial India Pale Ale(Ceramic bottle!)..I see in a review the person paid $16us so I guess I didn't get ripped off too badly. Definitely the most I've paid for a single beer. Anyone had this?

Nope, the only one from them in the ceramic bottles that I've had is the RIS...which was very good. Can't remember how much it was but price was the reason I only had it once and hadn't tried the other ones.

Is there a reason they put it in a ceramic bottle? Is it more effective against skunking?

Yea, it keeps light out completely. Other than that, I think it's just packaging/marketing shenanigans. I like the resealable top though.

Have a few beers around ..I have a couple Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stouts, one or two Stone IPAs, some Wild Goose IPA, some Yuengling, and some low life.

The Brookly and Stone beers are great. The Wild Goose IPA was something I had never had before but was disappointed with it. Won't be buying it again.

On the plus side, I have some 18yo. Glenfiddich. Mmmmmm Felt like ballin' out and throwing down on some of the good stuff.

I've never seen that here, but would love to try it sometime. How much do you get in a bottle?

750ml. I don't know why NS has access to so many Rogue(around 15 beer styles) considering our great lack of other US micros. I love Rogue beers though so I won't complain, even though they are $7.49 a bomber(650ml).

Yeah, Rogue makes some great beers. I'd say the Rogue selections are up there with Samuel Smith and whatever Belgium-beerlord makes Duvel as my favorite brewers. I normally have to pay $10 for a Duvel.. totally worth it though. Two of those and some steak = heaven.

Theres a bar not far from me, close to the beach, that has 150 beers on tap and I have to say that I wasn't too stoaked at the selection when I finally went down there a few weeks ago. I think that I expected a whole mess of beers I'd never tried/heard of and that the quantity would mean quality. Definitely better than a normal bar's selection though and I hear they change up the menu often. And they did have Rogue's Hazelnut!

Duvel is an amazing beer for sure. I can't get them anymore however because the government liquor stores delisted them about a year ago..

When they were sold here though they were a little over $3 for a 330ml bottle. $10 is steep!

Ooooh, Rogue's Hazelnut on tap would be nice!

Have yall guys had Sailor Jerry's? That shit 46% rum...I went on a 2 day binge drinking that shit........I looked awful for a few days after.

I've mostly been drinking shit beer and going to good concerts.

Also, I tried the Stone Porter and was quite displeased. All their other offerings I've tried (arrogant bastard, stone IPA) are top notch, but this one was quite lacking. I'm yet to try their Imperial Stout. Opinions?

Also, I r close to Custom User title. LOLOLOlllercaust

It's my Father's name, so of course he had to have an entire bottle of it sitting on our kitchen counter...

Did everyone stop drinking and sober up?

The winter seasonals are out! Picked up 500ml bottles of all New Garrison Baltic Porter(9%), Garrison Winter Warmer(6.7%) and a revamped version of their Martello Stout(4.8%). Even though I am still spiteful of the owner that laid me off in the brewhouse...I can't resist the new beers of my old brewmaster.

I also bought a $15.99 750ml bottle of Rogue Double Dead Guy Ale.

I don't know where to get real beer in California. All I can get is Sam Adams for the seasonal stuff.

Not to sound like a dick, but it would definitely help if you were legal age.

I still haven't got a straight answer for this question I've had for ages...what is the best lager? Something crisp, delicious, refreshing and drinkable...

Negative about the Arrogant Bastard. To my understanding, Stone doesn't have distribution to any Canadian provinces.

Best lager? Not sure, but you probably can't get it around here. But what you can get around here isn't bad and I'm 95% sure you'll be able to find these:

Both are Pilsners.

Pilsner Urquell
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1/429

The Original Budweiser(Czechvar)
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/304/6715

Check out these links:

http://beeradvocate.com/top_beers?t...0&cId=&style=40

http://beeradvocate.com/top_beers?t...7&cId=&style=41

http://beeradvocate.com/top_beers?t...&cId=&style=155

There are all kinds of sub-categories of lagers in the "best of" section at Beer Advocate.

I have had the Pilsner Urquell...pretty tasty.

One of my biggest critiques of BeerAdvocate are the members negative reviews of decent lagers. For example, St. Pauli's girl, or something equal, is a decent beer. But the reviews are like "There is no substance" or "Too watery."

it's a lager. that's what it's supposed to taste like.

You're welcome!

Yeah, reviews should be taken only as a base-reference. Bad reviews for good beer and good reviews for bad beers.

Having a can of Busch.

Had a Jack and coke on my birthday. Couldn't stand the taste, but I wanted to get fucked up, so instead smoked some skunk. Baaaaaaad idea. We'll leave it at that.

Not a big drinker, actually. Busch is the only beer I enjoy. Guinness, Smirnoff Ice. I guess I'm not a big drinker because I'm never in the right place to get drunk. I'm either at my friend's house which mean I'll have to drive home (most of the time), or I'm at home, but I'm preoccupied doing other things.

Alcohol is very cheap in France , cause they got no alcohol tax

Yeah, Jack Daniels is garbage. It's like the Budweiser of whiskey. Dominant marketing completely overriding quality.

For an introduction into better beer, seek out some easy to find stuff like Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada. Guinness is a good start you've picked up on as well.

Anyone notice that certain foods can really change the taste of a beer?

For example, last night I opened up a bottle of Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome but before I took a sip, I stuffed my mouth full of these Jalapeno Cheeto things, and then when I took a drink the beer tasted like fucking chemical waste. I was pretty shocked, as I usually love that beer, and thought maybe it was a bad batch or something. I took another sip and the chemical taste was more mild, and then another and it was back to normal.

I can't stand mixed drinks, i'd rather take shots any day. That's funny that Busch is the only beer you enjoy, I'd definitely try out some Sam Adams as BB suggested.

I tried my first Steel Reserve the other night, wasn't too impressed

My favorite mixed drink has to be white russians with 5 shots of vodka and 3 of kahlua... they get you hammered FAST.

Yeah, it was quite good. Had a very interesting flavor to it, but it's kinda hard to describe. Very expensive though at the bar.. $4.50 for draft or bottle. I still prefer the Troegenator Double bock though http://www.troegs.com/trogenator.htm

Yeah I just read a few reviews that said it was superb. The big provincial liquor store here has tons of it in stock, so I'll definitely have to buy some next weekend.

Should also be a pretty good kick in the head considering that it's 9%

yeah i got a four pack of old rasputin, drank two and couldnt get into it. i cellared the other two, and gave one to my brother when he was here and he LOVED it. his favorite stout ever i think. though he picked up this victory imperial stout that he dug a lot, too.

its just too potent for me. ive been indulging with beer lately though. i got a fourpack of unibroue stuff, a st bernadus christmas pack, delerium tremens, waterloo (good belgian ale brought to me from asia, i dont think its available in the US), chimay... etc...

Back in port again...back to some beer tonight! Had duty last night so I couldn't drink, but we did have to drag some drunk ass back to the bus since he could barely stand up straight on his own. So tonight is the night..first beer in just over 40 days. (tears of joy)

Stouts are awesome, the last best one I had was Great Lakes brewing co. Blackout stout, that stuff was amazing. Has to be one of the best ones I've had. It's pretty heavy and strong though, not something you sit and pound on hot summer days. I'd still drink one or more on a hot summer day but if you think guinness is heavy, you are in for a surprise. Victory Stormking (or stormlord..I think it's king) is pretty good stuff too.

How've you guys been doing?

If you want to talk about Stone, you have to mention Ruination IPA. Expensive but oh so delicious!

Well if I were at home or on land more often, that wouldn't be the case. We aren't allowed to drink on the ship though, so it's hard to enjoy a glass of delicious ale.

Went to an Irish pub last night..not sure how many Irish pubs there are in Bahrain, but we managed to find one. Wasn't too bad..did some shots of Jameson with my boss and had a few different kinds of beer..namely Kilkenny cream ale, and another one that I can't quite think of right now. It was decent.. some kind of bitter I think the lady said.

Hey brotha! Good to hear from you. I'm glad you're getting time to have a few drinks over there. haha, pretty surreal to imagine an Irish pub in fucking Bahrain of all places.

Propeller put out it's seasonal Imperial Stout(8%abv) a couple of weeks ago. I drank that shit fresh from the growler on New Year's Eve.

You said it brother! Some think Guinness is overrated, but I fucking love it. Only on tap of course, as bottling or canning it seems to bugger up the taste.

I didn't realize North Coast Brewing made this many different beers. They only sell Red Seal Ale and Old Rasputin in this city though

I tried the Old Rasputin Imperial stout last Wednesday. I'm so fucking glad I bought it. The texture was perfect IMO (Very thick, the way I like it) And very bitter (Also the way I like it)

$10.89 for 4 x 355ml bottles. Kind of expensive, but well worth the money

That's not badly priced given the quality and alcohol content. I'm dying to try it.

It isn't too expensive, but it aint cheap either I'm sure you'd love it if you ever got the chance to try it. I'll probably be buying it again in the near future. They don't sell it in your city?

That's one of my favorite beers. Absolutely delicious.

I finally got to try the Dogfish Head 120 minute DIPA (21% abv) last week. For a beer with that much alcohol, it was pretty easy to drink but boy howdy did it have a kick. It was kinda funny because I drank it with some Wendy's Chicken Nuggets. ROfL @ pairing one of th best beers in the world with some of the worst food.

Fourty days.. damn.

I think I haven't done that in at least 10 years.

Yeah, Finlandia is extremely popular over there(judging by all the Finnish metal bands that drink it anyways). Not too bad..but if I buy vodka I go for the better stuff like Grey Goose, even if it is double the price of most vodka's around here.

I think those vodka articles are a shame..Ever see the episode of Mythbusters were they had a vodka expert pick 5-6 vodkas from top shelf to least filtered. He was 100% correct.

This is how shitty my night was in terms of alcohol:

Heineken

Coors Light

Bacardi Rum

but at least that combination got me fucked up (along with an appropriate amount of THC).

I actually used to like Heineken until I tried better Dutch lager's. It's not a horrible beer, but it has this really raunchy aftertaste to it that I can't really describe, anyone else know what I mean? I also notice it smells kinda weird too. That being said, Grolsch is a much better Dutch lager IMHO.

Howdy folks. I'm in Limassol, Cyprus for a little bit. Had some local beer Keo which was ok, nothing special. Had a Greek beer called Marathon, it was fucking terrible. See you all later.

Anyone here ever had anything by Wychwood? I tried the Hobgoblin ale. It was pretty good, but not overly terrific.

You deserve a good smack in the head.

Hey graf! Good to see you are still touring the world and drinking beer. haha, the Navy life eh.

I've had a few Wychwood beers. You pretty much summed them all up. Decent, but nothing spectacular. Their Winter Warmer(bah humbug) is pretty tasty though.

Bass...

Tomorrow I'm probably gonna be making a BevMo's run with my friends.

What's the best beer that costs under $10 for a 6 pack? (or $20 for a 12). Any hidden treasures out there that cost less than they should?

Man, I wish I could help you out more but there is a HUGE difference of availability in the beer sold here and the beer sold in most states. What state are you in again? Try to find some local beer(local as in brewed in your state) and then venture out from there. I know mixed sixpacks are pretty popular in America, perhaps inquire about one and pick a bunch of random beer. Try out different styles you haven't had like an American-styled IPA, hefeweizen, oatmeal stout, ect. Cheers.

I actually tried out a Hefeweizen, a nice hint of sweetness in there.

Well thanks for the advice you can offer. There are these $10 20 packs of randomly assorted beer at BevMo's... but I HIGHLY distrust that. Probably lots of shitty stuff.

And yea, I'm in California. I'll try to read the labels around there and find some local stuff. I'm pretty sure I did see some of those assorted 6 packs you're talking about. That does sound like a good way to get more variety for my money.

Happy drinking
