what american craft beer do you get in Canucka? sierra nevada is one of the most popular national brands next to Samuel Adams.
I've been sick and this is the first beer I've had in awhile. Tuesday I chugged some Redhooks to wash down my sleeping meds (still woke up after 3 hours) and since then I've been really sick and congested. I'm still sick but I'm going to drink it anyway. It's good.

It all depends on the region. The only American craft beer I can readily purchase is Rogue, Shipyard and Flying Road. Most of the imports in my province are from the UK or Belgium. They used to sell Sam Adams here years ago but have long since stopped.

sqol, i think i've had that heather ale...or at least one named that. different to say the least. not my cup of tea though. perhaps it was the utter lack of hops.

for the super bowl tomorrow, i have some boulevard bully! porter, and some boulevard irish ale. my two favorites from the brewery so far after having those, the pale ale, unfiltered wheat, and dry stout. the others were good..just don't seem to have as much flavor as these two.

That's the one It had a really odd (read: not pleasant) smell, but it tasted ok, but like you, not really my bag. Dark, strong ales and stouts all the way

Ever since I've been listening to Tommy James And The Shondells, I have been wanting to try sweet cherry wine. Maybe I'll buy a bottle for my birthday.
Badass song by the way.

i went to ATL today again because of the reappearance of Ten FIDY imperial stout... i picked up a case. along with some sam adams double bock, sierra nevada bigfoot, brooklyn black chocolate stout, ommegang abbey ale, sweetwater IPA, old chub and dale's pale ale, and more good stuff.
Im drinking an Oak Aged Yeti right now and it's excellent. It's the first barrel aged beer I've had to myself. very reminiscent of a good whisky.

I've been enjoying a lot of St. Ambroise Scotch Ale recently.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/194/6841
I'm not quite sure how this could get any low marks. Perfect for the temperature here.
I'll be doing some beer shopping later in this week...hopefully some new selections at the private stores and RIS at the local brewpubs.

As far as liquor goes, I've been pretty much sold on Johnny Walker. Red Label, Black Label...It's all delicious.
As far as beer goes, I'm currently enjoying
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/703/2041/?ba=bros
A damn complex beer for a hefeweizen.
I found this burger join here in town that has a huge assortment of beers. Newly added was Arrogant Bastard and Stone IPA. I also saw Chimay and Hoegaarden. I asked the barkeep if they had Duvel on tap, but unfortunately it wasn't available at that time. Fantastic place. I'ma keep it in mind.

yea, that does sound like a badass burger place. well..as long as the food is good too. of course, you could always just go to drink.
this weekend we're heading into columbia, MO to watch some jazz musician perform. last time we were out there, we passed a liquor store that proclaimed they had a "variety of beer" so i'm thinking of trying to stop by and see what they have this sunday.
right now i'm having some new belgium fat tire. good stuff, nice distinct malty flavor with a balanced and clean finish. of the new belgium beers..this is the only one i've had so far, but they have a wheat beer and pilsner at the store here. planning on giving them both a shot. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/607

GRAF!!
New Belgium is my favorite relatively inexpensive brewery. THey average about 7 dollars a 6pack (at least here in Austin) and all their beers are fantastic. In fact, fat tire might be one of my least favorites of theirs, but it is still really good.
Try their Abbey & Trippel. Their Sunshine Wheat (what you were talking about) is also really good but not as good as those other 2.

Yum..Duvel on tap? Damn nigga. Belgians on tap are unheard of in these parts, unless they are from a brewpub. Bastards.
Speaking of beer, my stupid ass needs to brew my Double Oatmeal Stout kit my girlfriend gave me for Xmas. All I need is the bottles and capper. I've been too busy buying beer and getting drunk, when I'm sitting on about 70 potential twelve oz. bottles of wort.
I've had the regular Erdinger Hefeweiss a few months ago..wasn't too bad at all.

i know a little place with St Bernardus Abt 12, Allagash Wit, Delirium Noel, and N'ice Chouffe on draft... i'm thinking of buying a tent and renting space in the parking lot.
right now i'm drinking Great Divide Titan IPA and enjoying it a lot... I really have too much beer to drink myself, and about 90% of it is dark malty strong stuff.

I forgot to mention last night I had an Arrogant Bastard. Really good beer. Hadn't had it in a while. But while searching beer advocate, I came across this brew:

GOD DAMN! I nearly creamed my jeans just looking at the picture. *foams from mouth*

Stone IRS is one of the best imperial stouts for sure... I'm trying to work a trade to get some for myself.
i wanted to show you guys a picture of delicious Ten Fidy stout but I can't find the camera... it's probably the darkest beer ever. they could probably use it to insulate something in NASA.

i don't think they sell either of those around here unfortunately. kind of surprising that they sell any of their beer here.
not sure if i mentioned before that there was a guy at our house that works for anheuser-busch. he was here for one of my parents parties and my parents told him i loved beer but didn't really care for AB products. so we talked about beer for a while and he said he was gonna put together a package of beer for me and drop by with it one day. well today was that day!
he brought over a bit more than i was expecting: 2007 AB brewmaster doppelbock (large resealable bottle), 20 pack of michelob pale ale/bavarian wheat/porter/amber bock/marzen octoberfest (4 each), another 20 pack of AB seasonals and an extra or two...jacks pumpkin spice ale, winter cask ale, a wheat beer i forget the name of, landshark lager, blueberry lager (8%), and the one i'm looking most forward to..oatmeal stout! 4 of each of those. the oatmeal stout isn't available in bottles..can only get it on tap at certain places but they bottled some for employees. other than that there were 2 bomber sized bottles, both from michelob, one is a chocolate lager and the other is a cherry lager. last and probably least were some cans of bud and bud light but each were this bud/clamato juice mix. he said he thought it was weird and would be bad but it's surprisingly drinkable.
needless to say..we have plenty of beer at the house.

i'm drinking this "wild blue" blueberry lager. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/26049
this sums it up nicely:
do not buy this stuff. fortunately, it was included in a big box of other beer as a gift..this one is my least favorite so far. gonna be tough to figure out what to do with the other 3! it has 8% ABV..making it the strongest brew i've had from AB..still deciding if i'm going to finish it though. it's almost like drinking a berry soda only not quite as sweet. it certainly smells like a blueberry soda though.
last night i had the mule kick oatmeal stout http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/34684
it was alright..but i'm not sure when these were bottled. there isn't a born on date because it was never bottled for the public...so i'm thinking it was done a while ago. tasted like other old beers i've had..like the ones i tried to age in non-ideal conditions. still have 3 left also..but i'll gladly drink these anytime over the blueberry.
edit...if i can find this mule kick on tap somewhere in st. louis, i'll definitely try it.

There is something about an 8%abv Blueberry Lager brewed by Busch that seriously freaks me out. Good news is I'll more than likely never see a bottle of it on these shores.
The reviews are hilariously bad.

haha i'll trade them to you. don't say i didn't warn you though.
i like lambics and have liked a couple different beers that used blueberries in the flavoring..as well as other beers with different fruits. this stuff just doesn't taste like beer, in fact..i'd say it tastes like bad blueberry soda. not quite sweet enough to be a good soda, but not "beer" enough to be a good beer. it doesn't smell like beer either.

read the ones about the clamato with bud/bud light. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/37389 (bud)
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/37424 (bud light)
we have 4 cans of each of them. haven't mustered up the courage to try them yet. especially once i realized exactly what clamato was. originally i was thinking it was just some weird tomato like vegetable...made me think of tomatillo or something.

oh shit... at one of our Free the Hops meetings we had some Budweiser Clamato donated. a couple were brave enough to taste it. Just the smell was awful enough for me. We poured those in the sink. shouldn't be in the same room with all the Rocheforts and Westmalles, Stone, Great Lakes, Dogfish Head, and dozens of other good beers and homebrews we had to drink.
I'm willing to bet that almost all those Anheuser-Busch beers are half decent at best, and mostly terrible. I dont fucking understand why they would even bother to create all the varieties of junk they have. It's sort of insane that they're such a huge company and can afford to hire whatever brewmasters and scientists they want, get all the best ingredients from anywhere in the world, and spend all the money they could ever want to make great beer, but they choose to market one offensive brand of cheap hooch after another and drop that money into TV time and sports stadiums. It's almost like they're just fucking with everybody; "Hey, I bet somebody will buy this shit." "care to make it interesting? 50 bucks says we sell 1500 barrels this spring"

ha! i'd try an "obama" but something tells me they aren't that great. gotta say, it would be pretty cool to have a beer named after you.

i guess it boils down to having to charge people more money. part of the reason their macro lagers sell is because they don't cost 7 or more dollars a 6 pack.
you're right though, most of the beers have been ok at best. my favorite so far was probably the 07 brewmaster private reserve, a doppelbock. probably the best beer i've had from their company. next i'd go with one of the beers from the michelob mix box..either the porter, bavarian style wheat, pale ale, or marzen. the mule kick oatmeal stout seems to have potential..i just think i need to try it fresh and on tap. no telling when they bottled the limited amount they bottled. there is no date on it at all.

Yea that stuff is delicious. If I'm not mistaken, Duvel bought that company.
Anyways, the liquor store had a limited selection of beer, but I managed to find some Blanche De Chambly on sale. First time I've ever tried it. Rather light, but tastey. I enjoy the carbonation.

not sure what the ephemere is this year..from what i know, they change fruit on a yearly basis.
that other unibroue you guys are talking about it pretty good. not at the top of my list from that brewery though. to me, it's all about the la fin du monde or the trois pistoles. maudite is pretty good too..so is don de dieu though. can't find any of that stuff in mexico, mo.

i haven't been enoying my beer recently... i wonder if it's because i've been sick, my sense of smell is fucked up or something. I had some Old Chub tonight and liked it, as well as a Rogue Mocha Porter, but a couple of strong hoppy beers I've had lately were almost sickening. Sweetwater IPA and Happy Ending stout especially, and Flying Dog Gonzo porter, they smelled awful in their own ways and I know they're excellent beers but I could barely drink them. I wonder if my beer is spoiled somehow or if it's just me. Nothing has smelled like skunk yet, just some weird ass-funk I can't place. I haven't had these beers for very long and it stays dark in the beer room, plus i cover the cardboard boxes up with blankets. It's been mostly cold here for the past couple months but this room isn't temperature regulated. I wonder if that's the problem... I need to drink faster maybe.

Tried the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine last night. WHAT A FANTASTIC BEER!! It was rather pricey, but damn well worth it. Reminded me of an Arrogant Bastard with more prominent alcohol flavor and stronger fruits. A really fun beer to drink.
If you are fortunate to find a six pack, PICK THAT BITCH UP!

All three are Guinness Products. They are all pretty much average or a little above average. BC is supposed to have some great microbreweries which I've mentioned before. Hunt 'em down.

que?? it's a very popular style of beer. i like them a lot, they just aren't one of my favorites. not the best winter beers either..then again, any (style of) beer at any time of year is good enough for me!
good luck on the brewing MB! it's a lot of work..and from what i've been told, takes a few tries to get it down to where you really like your beer. once i am settled in somewhere for a while..who knows when..i'd love to give it another shot and get my own home brewing operation up and going.
don't forget to let the wort cool BEFORE adding the yeast!!! that's what did ours in. also..hope you cleaned and sterilized everything before you did anything else.

yea, well i did it with a guy who new his shit. he had everything set up...this was his 4th batch he made. i got to try a pilsner he had just made. it was a week premature, but it was still alright. nothing too impressive.
anyways, the initial brew making steps took about 4 hours. my buddy took pictures with his digital camera of all teh steps we did. it also got hot as fuck in the apartment from cookin up the barley and hops.
i wanna try to brew an IPA next and just use a shitload of hops. i r hopshead!
wish us luck on the beer! i'll tell ye how she turns out.

Sick. It's an overly sugared and overly carbonated vagina drink.
Bob - I think it's up to around $19 something here now.
The sixpacks I buy are usually $11-12. So two 6 packs and the an assortment of 500ml and 650ml singles adds up when I drink.

I'm trying to get a job at the Garrison Brewing company from a guy I met from BeerAdvocate that works there. He said I would start on the bottling line, but eventually be more involved with the actual brewing process. $9 an hour and a lot of free beer at the end of the day. Wish me luck!

It's two litres of pop.
Thanks graf. Yeah man, you have to try the Imperial Pale Ale. 70ibus of 6.9% well-balanced bliss. I had two pints on tap the other night. It's really fucking good. Crazy how a mediocre microbrewery can start pumping out world-class beers with the change of an experienced brewmaster. Also went to "Rogue's Roost" brewpub and finally tried an 18oz their RIS at 8.7-9%. I was a little buzzed ever before i started drinking a little later.
Does anyone know some quality, top-shelf vodka other than Grey Goose?

I've noticed here where i live now most people call alcohol by their sized bottles in metric, rather than a 5th or a half gallon/handle.
Fuck that shit, i'm american. Give me a 5th of crown and coke!

Fuckin sweet. Good luck.
I was thinking.....my ideal job would be to run a brewery. Fuck owning a music store or selling guitars. Make good, tasty, moderately priced ales. In fact, that will be the name of company.
GOOD, TASTY, MODERATELY PRICED ALES!

Thanks..it would be quite a funny jump considering I'm currently employed with The Salvation Army.
Good beer company name as well.
The bottle sizing names are all fucked up here. There are terms all over the place.

if im hot and thirsty, i drink 1 or 2 like lemonade, but thats about it. in 9th grade i didnt yet like the taste of real beer, so i bought smirnoff ice for a year. then, id probably drink 6-8 in a given night. i remember a time i was upstate, in a big city. i skated away from our hotel and found someone to buy me a six of smirnoff. i found an underground waterway, and dropped down to its side ledge. fortunately there was no bums down there, haha. i drank 5 in about 15 minutes and almost got lost on the way back to the hotel. they buzz you quick. 'twas fun.

Sounds like everybody in 9th grade. Everybody drank smirnoff. Last time i drank it i had liek a 40 of it after drinking alot of stuff. I chugged the entire bottle, then promptly puked afterwards.

When i was in 9th grade I drank beer and crown royal, mainly because it's what my dad forced me to drink. I wouldn't have been allowed to drink smirnoff and those bitch drinks.

The first time I got drunk was off some high class liquor from Italy smuggled backed in my friend's socks. Our chaser was Tecate. Debaucher-ific!
