The NSLC got all of these new British beers I posted a little while back ago. Can't wait to try them all.

I picked up a 500ml Young's Double Chocolate Stout and a bomber of Great Lakes Winter Ale tonight.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9408/34248

Had the stout finally! I was very pleased with the chocolately deliciousness of it. Haven't had the Winter Ale yet.

NSLC has several new British beer, but discontinued all Chimay, Duvel, Westmalle and Affligem lines....fucking pissed. In there place are Steelback(Canada's worst 'micro' macro lager company) tall boys and a few shit offerings from Inbev in different packaging.

Needless to say I'm going to stock the fuck up on the good Belgians. Bah!

I found a place that brews there own brew and also has 2 dollar pints on tuesday. There are 6 different types to choose from: they have a heffewizen (sp?), an amber, a blonde, a dark stout and 2 different IPAs. I tried both IPAs and a Dark Stout. To sum it up, I'm going next Tuesday. lolol

Tonight, I'm going to a dinner party and bringin some Hennipin. It should be fun.

Awesome man. There is nothing like a local brew-pub, especially one with good food! There is a place called Rogue's Roost in Halifax(no affiliation to Rogue) that I frequent quite often. They serve 18oz(proper pint size) beers and most of there beer is over 5% which is nice also.

It's on a corner about a story above ground level. It's nice to look out on one of the busiest streets in Halifax at all the freaks, homeless panhandlers, etc. while having some fine crafted brews.

$2 pints is a great deal..I give bartenders a buck on every beer I get though. It adds up quickly. lolol.

Edit - Here are pictures of Rogue's Roost to give you can idea of where I am at least once a week. loz.

looks pretty nice. that sucks about the belgians though.

moe - 2 bucks a pint of micro brewed beer is a great deal..i'd hit that up all the time if there was a place like that near by.

tomorrow i'm probably gonna re up on some rum, so i'll likely find myself meandering on over to the beer isle. not sure what i'll get though. took me a bit to decide last time. i've either had what they have, or it was something that was kinda pricey. trying to not spend too much money since i don't really have much. which sucks because there are some new beers on the shelves that are larger bottles..they are all kind of expensive though. ~$10 a bottle for a 750ml. some are even more.

tonight i had a bottle of the post road pumpkin ale. it's pretty decent..smelled kinda like soap though hah. the taste is more of spices and fairly subtle pumpkin. i'd post a picture but without a mouse, everything is a pain in the ass. fucking computers...not even sure what happened. got drunk last night and don't quite remember the end of the night. i turned on my comp today and when i opened firefox, it asked if i wanted to restore my last session..meaning it hadn't been shut down properly. i've been fucking with it on and off all day and i'm at my wits end...can't even seem to hook up this other mouse.

some shitty news about beer..i guess i posted a link to the story before..the one about beer prices going up? lots of the hops around the globe were fucked by various incidents, so there's a bit of a shortage there, malt prices have more than doubled i believe, and even glass is going up in price. someone said "ahh, i'm not too worried about it, this sort of talk happens every year." was hoping he'd be right, but recently i caught a small story about it on the local news. the dunedin brewery that is less than half an hour from here has ceased to bottle beer to be sold in stores. you have to buy what's left on the shelves or go to the brewpub. still haven't done the latter..want to get over there before i leave the area.

It beyond sucks about the Belgians..it means none of those beer will be for sale around here..probably for a VERY long time.

About the hop prices...we can always drink our troubles away.

works for me.

the problem is two fold though..prices will go up, and some breweries may not be able to get a certain type that they typically use, or else maybe they'd just be able to get a limited amount. so they'd have to alter their recipe/flavor, not make the beer, or make a small amount of it. who knows..

thats where i went tonight... i am still beer buzzed. I started with a Guinness, because i didnt see all the better stuff on tap they had. I had the mystery beer of the month, I have no idea what it was but it had some berry edge to it... then I asked the waitress for a Hummer, and she gave me a Sweetwater Summer Hummer. close enough.

The restarant started installing new taps recently, and the manager said they might possibly be operating tonight, so we hung around. Lo and behold, we got to toast with the first and freshest round of Rogue Chocolate Stout pints, to Freed Hops and new taps at the J Clyde. Then I had some atlanta brewing co winter seasonal, whatever the fuck it is, (very tasty and incredibly malty black beer, tasted like a bowl of cereal) and stumbled home.

had the oud beersel oude geuze vielle last night. was alright..fairly sour. have to say that i liked the oude kriek vielle much better. right now i'm kicking back with a glass of abita fleur de lis restoration ale. it was only brewed once and a portion of all sales go towards helping out with the whole lousiana situation. thankfully their brewery wasn't fucked. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3/26497

good shit..nice hoppy/pine aroma that follows through in the flavor. it actually reminds me a lot of brooklyn pennant '55 ale. probably the same hops i guess. very balanced beer actually..malt is very present in both smell and taste. a shame this stuff won't be around anymore. they still have a few bottles on the shelf at my local total. maybe i should buy them and try and trade them on BA for some shit i can't get here.

I think I maybe had other beers too..I didn't get to my sixpack of Propeller ESB though or my Great Lakes Winter Warmer. Probably didn't need it. lol.

I have a temporary tattoo on my neck of a heart with 'Juliet' inscribed in it. lol.

LoL. A beer bong is meant to be used to choke down cheap beer, if I'm not mistaken.

Duvel is certainly good enough to beer bong. Some might even go so far as to say too good, but I guess if you want to get drunk very quickly and have it taste pretty good there's not much better than drinking an entire bottle of an 8.5% beer in a few seconds. It does seem like more than a bit of a waste, though.

Do you Eastern Upstaters get any Custom Brewcrafters stuff around you? They don't bottle, but they supply a lot of bars and restaurants. I'm just not sure if they go that far East. Huge variety, of which I always keep a growler or three around the house if I can.

I know of several places that aren't on that list, and I'm pretty sure that there are a few farther East than that, though I guess probably not as far as you guys. And they make way too many different beers for me to name, but all of them either have Custom Brewcrafters (or CB) or the name of the bar or restaurant in it.

Anyway, great local beer that I started taking note of just when I thought that there wasn't great local anything around here. If you're in the area you should check it out (literally it's as simple as going into pretty much any local bar).

nothing like supporting local beer. florida has some good beer..also has a lot of shitty beer. i guess that's mainly because the weather down here doesn't really call for heavy and dark beers.

went up to my cousins apartment this weekend. brought some samuel smith's imperial stout and a bottle of sierra nevada harvest ale. split the SN with my cousin, and had the SS since he doesn't like dark beer. with to the "liquor lounge" with his girlfriend and a friend. had some hoegaarden on tap..then started getting some chivas 12. i don't know if the bartender couldn't hear me or what..i have a low voice, so it gets drowned out in noisy situations.. i asked for it neat, and she seemed to not know what i meant. was really nice in the snifter.

8.1%abv but I still love you anyways. Yeah, perhaps it was a bit of a waste...but I had plenty of more beer/etc to drink so I had to deal with time constraints unfortunately. I hate drinking with people who always want to leave early.

I was telling my mom about the Young's Double Chocolate Stout and she wants to try it next time I have it at the house. haha, I showed her a cold bottle of Fuller's London Porter from the fridge and talked about their similarities and differences and she became more intrigued. haha.

Someday I will get my 51-year-old mother into craft beer...

Finally tried a Fuller's ESB the other day. Wasn't as good as I would have expected, although was still tasty. I'll have to get it again though. Also had a Bruegel Amber Ale from Belgium. Tasty stuff.

haha good luck with the conversion. sounds like she's on the road to redemption.

the fuller's ESB is good..wasn't crazy about it at first (still liked it) but after having a 6 pack of it..i'd say it's a great session beer. subtle deliciousness with a little bit of caramel in the flavor. good stuff.

having myself a glass of the samuel smith's winter welcome ale. first time giving this one a go..have only seen it on sale in one store.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/113/577

just poured it..haven't had a sip yet.

if guinness is the drink of kings, kings need to like, i dont know. wake the fuck up or something. my point is that guinness is lame. I had Guinness on tap the one time, because i did not know there were 5 more taps and another bar elsewhere in the establishment. and it was $2. Murphy's irish stout is much more enjoyable, and really just about anything else would be.

we're getting sierra nevada porter on draft, I can't wait.

have agree with you there...guinness is very overrated but it's not a bad beer. especially for a mass produced beer. murphy's was very comparable in my opinion. was also good..but not great.

i guess one reason i like guinness as much as i do..is that it's often the best beer available at restaurants.

SN porter is pretty tasty stuff..not the greatest porter, but certainly a good one. one weird porter fact...i can find yuengling porter on the west coast of florida at several stores..can't find it on the east coast anywhere though.. fucking wack ass distributions.

here's a pic of that winter warmer from the SS.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_4250.jpg
was a big meh.. would rather drink it than their nut brown nectar or whatever it's called...probably my second least favorite SS beer. wasn't terrible or anything..just wasn't to my liking. lots of malt.

haha.

I agree with you guys. While Guinness isn't bad by any means, after getting a handle on other stouts it will seem quite weak. The Guinness mouthfeel is nice, but it's still pretty watery once you get past the foam. Guinness however saves me from drinking complete piss at a bar when there is nothing else, as others have said.

It's too bad they don't usually serve Russian Imperial Stouts on tap around here...only one brew pub does, and it's seasonal..although the season is upon us.

multinational corporation beer can suck it.

Diageo used to own Burger King and Pilsbury, for fucks sake.

Maybe if Burger King had Guinness, Smithwicks, Smirnoff, Baileys, and Johnnie Walker on the soda fountains, I would have gone in there more.

it's like the upcoming election. nothing is really great..so you pick the least offensive one of the bunch..which more often than not, is guinness.

in a bit i'm gonna have a tucher bajuvator doppelbock..haven't had it before, so i'm hoping it will be delicious. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/129/932 has a good thumbs up/down ratio.

Picked this up at the beer store after talkin with an employee. He told me this was in his top 3 beers of all time.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1390/3747

It is pretty tastey. I've never seen a head last so long on a beer. The score is definately a little bit lower on beer advocate than I would expect.

That's true. Hoegaarden is readily available at most bars/restaurants now, as it's an Inbev product. You can find it at most 'macro' sports bars. Better than a Coors light or Molson Canadian..

I wasn't shit talking it in the least bit. I was subtly stating that it's the best alternative to cheap lager in a place where you can't get other decent beer.

HAY! I'M REPORTING YOUR UNDERAGE ASS TO AUTHORITIES.

My seventeen year old girlfriend has recently been fascinated into quality beer. I almost get emotional when she talks about how much she's been researching beer. Hell, she even wants to go to this huge Beer festival in Quebec in the summertime..she'll be eighteen then which is legal drinking age.

I've got the majority of my friends into craft beer. It's great because it's another hobby we can enjoy, talk about, and well..get drunk off of at the same time!

it's the cause of and solution to all of life's problems. -

i've dragged a couple people into the world of better beer. it's fun to see people try new ones that the never knew existed and realize how fucking great they are whilst their previous drink of choice seems not so great anymore.

last night i had some tucher bajuvator doppelbock. it was fairly good..not my favorite, even for the style.. had a very malty flavor to it, couldn't really tell that it was 7.5% i'll probably still give their brewery a chance when it comes to other releases, not at the top of my list to try however.

edit..ha how could i forget with the internet running all slow.. got almost half of mj's beer hunter series coming in via some torrent i found.

haha nice!

tonight i'm having some full moon winter ale..it's from that coors/blue moon company. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/306/39581 ouch..at first i looked up their winter ale thinking that was it. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/306/31244 it has a better rating..still not great hah.. oh well..the one i got is a belgian style pale ale. just grabbed it on a whim to fill the empty spot in my 6 pack and plus it was cheap. might say fuck it and throw one of my bottles of chimay in there and drink that instead.

almost 75% of that beer hunter..can't wait to check that out. if it's finished in time tonight, i'll definitely be having the chimay blue while watching.

watched a couple episodes of that beer hunter show tonight. first one was in california, and the second was over in the UK. pretty good...a bit old (1989), and sometimes the sound was cutting out for a split second. never made it hard enough to hear words that you couldn't tell what was being said..just enough for it to be annoying as fuck a couple times because of frequency.

had a glass of chimay blue while watching. then opened up some maredsous dubbel. both great beers.

I've seen both episodes a year and a half ago or longer. I don't think my versions the sound cut out..I could be wrong. Did you see any other videos than those to download?

I basically love watching anything that has to do with beer. I really wish there were more beer shows, up here there aren't any really that showcase strictly beer. Now...the amount of wine shows...

i'd have to look closer at the other files that were there. the other ones in my download are bohemian connection, the fifth element, burgandies of belgium, and our daily beer.

i hope there are more too. can't get enough of that stuff.

Awesome, I haven't seen any of those..it's a shame such an Advocate of Beer had to die.

I bought some beers tonight. Three Duvel(rest of the stock in my nearest store..FOR EVER), Hobgoblin Gift Set(with shirt), and two Fuller's Vintage Ale's.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/71/19426

They were a little over $6, but probably well worth it. I'm going to be stockpiling these to enjoy over the next few years.

looks good..i've never seen that one down here before.

tonight i watched the burgandies of belgium and bohemian connection. he drinks some chimay in the intro to his show, but he didn't even go to their brewery hah. maybe it does in some other video..i'm sure he's been there though. went to the lindeman's brewery..that part was pretty cool.

was talking to midnight express about how a person i know (that knows a lot more about beer than myself) was saying how their lambics, except the grand cru, weren't true lambics. i don't know..from what i saw in the video, they looked fine to me..spontaneous fermentation, didn't see any artificial sweetners or anything that seemed out of place. the only thing i can say is that the video was made in 1989, so perhaps their methods have been altered. don't know..

in the bohemian connection..he went to the pilsner urquell brewery. that place is fucking crazy! the shit they go through to make that beer is amazing..i have a new found respect for what i thought was a good beer..just not crazy about pilsner. didn't realize what the name meant..they were the first ever pilsner beer. might have to pick some up and drink some slowly and appreciate it a little more than the last time i had it (2 or 3 years ago).

oh yea..and i had the chimay tripel (white) while watching. good shit, i still think the blue is my favorite. i guess i'll have the red tomorrow with the last two videos. then i'll be off for the weekend..but when i get home again, gonna look around to find out if there are any more episodes.

Pilsner Urquell's a very good pilsner. I'm surprised you didn't know it was the first pilsner; that ad campaign they had a few years ago was predicated on that, with 'in 1839, if you'd wanted a light beer you'd have had to invent it. So we did' and all.

Used to drink a lot of Three Floyds, but don't see it so much around here.

holy shit that's a lot of carbs! where the fuck did you get dark lord!? i was bored at work one day and added it as a "want" on BA. browsed through everybody that came up as having it, not a single person had it at that time. i've only had 4 of those..the rest they don't sell in florida. want to try most of them though..haven't heard of a couple.

pst - i don't know that i've ever seen their ads before. don't watch too much tv for the most part..and usually if i am, i flip around during the commercials. i guess i'd stop if i saw a beer being poured or something like that.

i think my favorite pilsner is from clipper city. the heavy seas small craft warning (uber pils).. it's nothing like PU. it could probably fool me if i hadn't had it and someone told me it was some ale. good shit though.

I don't know if they were on TV; don't watch much. I saw them on buses and bus stops. But I wouldn't be much surprised if there were different ads in Chicago and Florida.

Easy to get kegs of anything Three Floyds if you're near Indiana. But Alabama isn't, so I dunno. Would be worth the going if you had some beer odyssey time.

Also, ESB's are awesome and tried too infrequently, and Guinness is fine.

i don't believe they make kegs of the dark lord..from what i know, they only sell it in bombers one day a year at the brewery. on top of that, there is a limit of how many one person can buy. i guess you could always come back for seconds. haha

dark lord is fuckin incredible... worth driving an hour and a half to get the 2 oz sample. Instead of lacing the glass, the actual beer sticks to the glass and shit like motor oil... and of course i had samples of all that other shit (minus Rogue and Duck Rabbit, I never saw, but samuel Smiths impy stout was added), and a lot more than my share of of the Smuttynose and Alesmith Speedway and Stone IRS and Storm King and Ten Fidy, im fuckin bombed. All incredible beers, and nice snacks we had to pair it with. Tomorrow morning is gona suckx

damn, that is one fine collection of beer there.

my local grocery store now has a stand of single beers that you can mix and match. their system kinda sucks though. i've had most of the ones they have up there, and don't care to try some of them.. so i just grabbed 4 that i wanted to try. apparently you HAVE to buy 6, and no matter which assortment you get, it always is about $9. kinda sucks..probably won't hit it up very much. unless they get something that is expensive in there, in that case, i'll probably take a 6er and save money rather than buying a real 6 pack.

still cool to see progress in the world of beer.

went to my friends for a night and had a bunch of bud light. managed to score a 6 of anchor steam beer though..so that helped. now i'm having a pilsner urquell. pretty good stuff. still not my favorite style of beer by far.

damnit bassb, i was gonna ask you a question and you went and got yourself banned.

was gonna ask, you said you've had sleeman's before right? it's from canada so i'm pretty sure you have talked about it before. anyone else have it before? today i found a store that sells their IPA, lager, and one other beer i forget what it was. kinda thought i remembered bassb saying it wasn't that great, so i didn't get any.

edit..oh the other one they had was a porter. the ratings on BA don't seem too good.

i got some killer beer today... a 750 of chimay blue, 3 bombers of Stone Ruination and 4 bombers of Arrogant Bastard Ale. I'll let you know how that turns out... I'm kind of worried that it's all old and/or skunked.

edit: well I'm drinking a Ruination and it's excellent. That's the one I was most worried about, because the bottle is painted (no label, more light hitting the beer), it's massively hoppy (hops react with light and cause skunking, although they preserve beer that's properly stored), and it was kept in the sunlight on a shelf. It's fine though. I think the Chimay Grand Reserve has a good shelf life, plus the bottle had zero dust so it must be pretty recently stocked. I got my Arrogant Bastards elsewhere because they only had bottles dated 3/04/07. The ones I have are dated 10/31 or something, and they were stored more carefully, so I am not worried about them.

anyways... Ruination is about as hoppy as Stone claims. This one is probably out of its prime, aged the hard way a few months in some godforsaken tennessee macro beer distributor's warehouse or some shit, but I am enjoying it a lot. I've only had one or two other super hoppy beers (Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster, Sweetwater Donkey Punch, and I believe a Highland double IPA? and some barleywine I was too drunk to recall, except that the massive bitterness stayed with me) and this one is right up there. It's pretty drinkable at just over 7% apv, but I wouldnt want it to be my first beer unless it's gonna be the only beer, because your tongue will be dominated. I would love to have this with some spicy or bold food that could stand up to it. Luckily I have 2 more bombers and I know where to get more

found a bottle of this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/22555

unibroue la seigneuriale. i've never seen this before anywhere, so i immediately grabbed a bottle. can't wait to try it later.

haha, I'm back..

I've only ever tried the Honey Brown Lager, Cream Ale and their normal Lager. All were average or below average beers. Sleeman actually brews some of their beers in my city, as well has a restaurant in front of the brewery. You can see them brewing beer through a huge glass wall. It would be better if you saw them brew half decent beer though!

Jeez, I'm always amazed on the Unibroue selection you can manage! You might even be able to get more than Quebec! haha.

hah welcome back.

all the ratings for the sleeman beers were pretty weak on BA..might still give them a shot though, particularly the IPA and porter..well that only leaves one other one that i can get here.

that would be funny about the unibroue thing. i still haven't seen a bunch of them..i guess mostly the special brews or limited productions. according to the guy at the store, they might not be producing anymore raftman? wanted to give it another try. when i saw this new one, i had to do a double take. didn't see any unibroue logos, but it was the same exact style label.

Arrogant Bastard is excellent... you dont realize how hoppy it is until after you drink it, or something. It's unique. Very big roasted sweet flavors like a stout and english brown ale or scotch ale; I've had some extremely hoppy brown ales (notably Terrapin IBA, which I would say is a total hop bomb) and this is different, the hops are more hidden but definitely bold in the aftertaste. Maybe its just because I had Ruination last night and lots of IPAs in the past. I am planning to order a case for in-store pickup. This one is dated 10/13 and was sitting around in the store, i want fresh ones!

the bottle cap tastes kind of funny, like an old penny or a battery.. it's kind of a long story. but I don't recommend tasting the bottle cap.

that's another one i have wanted to try for a while now. hopefully they'll sell it wherever i wind up moving to.

hah the only way i could figure someone might wind up tasting the cap is by using their teeth instead of a bottle opener.

drinking the seigneuriale right now...quite disappointed. not their fault though. i think this one has gone bad. i bought it at the same place i bought that 1837 (or whatever year it was) that was also spoiled. not sure that i'll be buying anymore beer from that store..or at least unibroue. the fuller's ESB i bought there was fine..actually so was the raftman. who knows.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_4291.jpg

has the same bad flavor that the beers i tried to age had, same with the beers i got with the beer brewing kit i had. tempted to pour this one out..might fight through it though. was really excited to try this one. i guess i'll have to wait till someone else is carrying it.

sounds good to me. bassb can vouch for my trading. well we only traded once, but it worked out fine. should be even easier and less expensive since it's not international.

hell fucking yea! hit up total today since it's been a couple weeks since i've been there. they got some new stock in, so i grabbed a few beers.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/IMG_4296s.jpg
left the snake in the background in because it kicks ass.

ridgeway santa's butt porter http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/7944/20907 , brooklyn black chocolate stout http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45/680 , the 2007 celebration ale from sierra nevada http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/1904 , franziskaner weissbier http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/142/1946 (this wasn't new, just noticed that the label was different than the hefe-weisse. i don't see two different ones on BA though..maybe i was tricked.), two from dogfish head..golden era imperial pilsner http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/29395 and olde school barelywine style ale http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/6533 (15%!), rogue santa's private reserve http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/1173 , and clipper city heavy seas winter storm http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/898/15989 .

tomorrow i'm gonna go back because i forgot about the delirium noel http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/180/2347 . also want to grab some avery the beast grand cru http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30/15619 (shit is 10 bucks for a 12 oz though.) they've had the beast in stock for a while..just never felt like dropping that much on it just yet. they also just got in several other ridgeway beers that i've never seen on sale here before.

gonna be one hell of a thanksgiving.

I had a 18oz Smoked Porter and a tray of fried pepperoni at a local brew pub, Rogue's Roost. Never had that beer before, it was very delicious. After that batch is gone, they are on to brewing their Imperial Stout!

haha, sorry for the shock. Why couldn't you finish it? Tell me you discovered broken glass in the bottle or something..

Also, what did you have for dinner? That may be a factor too.

There haven't been too many beers I've drain-poured. I usually I read up a lot on the beer before i buy it, so I know what to expect.

that double chocolate stout is fucking nice. not the best stout, but certainly delicious. i want to try more of young's beers..only ones they sell here are that and the oatmeal stout. both are good shit. had some badass beer tonight but i'm kinda drunk and don't feel like typing about it.

Isn't chocolate made with pork? So that's why you don't like the beer!

Garrison IPA won best beer overall at the Canadian Brewing Awards that recently took place. Both Garrison and Propeller(local) won a few other awards as well for their beer.

stouts, porters, barley wine style ales, and anything with high ABV really. then there's always the seasonal beers. i guess people aim to make winter warmers around these times.

the barley wine style ale i had from dogfish head was pretty damn good. "olde school" it was called. i guess it's a new one because i've never seen it anywhere before and neither had someone else i was talking to about it. they don't live in this area, so it's not like they were shopping at the same stores.

was at the store today and they had some christmas release from st. bernardus. definitely picking up a bottle of that! corked and caged 750ml too.

try all the sierra nevada beers, they make great beers. good session beers too. their pale ale is the most popular and for good reason i'd say..though the celebration ale (winter offering), anniversary ale, and harvest ale are all very good if not better. i've done black and tans with the pale ale and their stout..want to try with the porter one of these days too.

i'm pretty sure bell's has a winter beer. i haven't seen it on sale down here. i would give that one a try in a heartbeat. so far i haven't been let down by any of their beers.

also look for that st. bernardus winter offering. haven't had it yet myself, i'm sure it's good though. all their other beers are great..well one i wasn't crazy about, the rest were fucking excellent.

Bought Porto last week, it was really good, i love porto....so i drank it up and finished it the same night....so i was drunk.

Me and my friends wanna try to make our own alcohol and the funny thing is, its cheap, around 20$ and you can have a decent alambic. ill give you my comments about it when it will be done!

What province are you in?

I had a 750ml bottle of Great Lakes Winter Ale, not so GREAT after all. lolololol. Above mediocre. Highly carbonated, the 'Christmas spices' seem to cover up the fact it's actually a very mediocre beer from the get-go.

I was drinking at my girlfriend's friend's place last night, and he offered me a Coors Light. It was the first one I drank since being a young teenager. Not so fantastic..but I was polite about it.

He wouldn't try my beer because it was darker. Good excuse..sissy pants.

i just had an ommegang rare vos (flemish for sly fox, although the brewery is somewhat-local)

absolutely fantastic. the bottle says theyre part of the duvel family, but i dont know how that is...anyway it was very floral and fruity, but then alcohol-y, but absolutely balanced and went perfectly with spag and meatballs.

hopefully getting some winter beers tomorrow

ommegang makes some great beers. actually just bought their 10th anniversary gift set today. comes with a corked bottle of hennepin, three philosophers, their chocolate indulgence stout and a glass. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/38818

haven't had the first sip yet of the stout..letting it warm up a little first since i just took it out of the fridge. smells malty, subtle undertone of dark/unsweetened chocolate, and surprisingly very smoky. well maybe not smoky..very noticeable roasted malt smell.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_4326.jpg

tastes good, not quite what i was hoping for i guess. roasted malt dominates while the chocolate takes the backseat. would've enjoyed a bit more chocolate in the flavor. kicks in towards the end along with a lingering coffeeish flavor. semi dry finish, medium-heavy body, can't detect the 7% ABV. weird BA doesn't have it listed when it's right on the front of the bottle.

trans - i was never sure myself how they were related..just figured they imported it or something. this has the answer though: http://www.duvel.be/pages/Main.aspx...merken/ommegang

other than that..i also grabbed a bottle of westmalle dubbel while i was there. looking forward to that one as well.

edit.. here's that tripel karmeliet glass. that is some good shit. glass could use a little more heft..other than that i think it's pretty badass. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_4308.jpg

Ommegang is one of my favorite American Breweries along with Dogfish Head, New Belgium (for price) and Stone.

those are two really cool glasses, i need some more glassware imo

that chocolate stout looks awesome. thats another thing i love about ommegang, all their bottles are really classy looking. thats one of the main reasons i dont like how american beer companies tend too look...kind of ugly, gimmicky, or boring

can never have enough glassware. next i'm gonna get the corsendonk xmas ale gift set. comes with 8 12 oz bottles (or ~11.2) and a glass. too bad they don't have a set with their abbey brown ale, that is some good shit.

label wise i like dogfish head and the illustrations flying dog uses are pretty cool.

Well said. I recently bought a 20oz Garrison pint glass, with the logo and the words "Drink Independently" embossed on the opposite side.

I have quite a few beer glasses, although sadly most of them are still at my dad's due to kitchen-cabinet space here at the momz house.

Graf, can you buy single glasses in those big fancy beer stores you frequent?

they have glassware there, just think it's all generic. they don't have rows of different glasses from various breweries..those you have to buy in a gift set or order online.
