yea, dogfish head makes some badass IPAs. i've only had the 120 min once, but i'll never forget it. i'm sure i'll have it again, but not anytime soon.
haha i was talking to guy at the liquor store around the corner..they have a small but good selection of beer..and we wound up talking to this other guy that was buying beer and i was talking about how strong that 120 is, and another random person in there said "theres a beer stronger than la fin du monde?!?" try more than twice as strong son! you are right..for being so strong, it is pretty damn easy to drink.

I should check out La fin Du Monde. I've always seen it at when looking for good beers but the $9 price tag always kept me away, which isn't saying much because I spent nearly $9 on the 120 minute IPA. I honestly like the 60 minute the most, or whichever is their cheapest.

i'm not sure which one i like most...the 90 minute seems like a happy medium to me. plus you can get a 4 pack for the price of one 120 min bottle.
you haven't had the la fin du monde?!? sheeit! try it, it is fucking delicious. though trois pistoles has presented a challenger to my favorite unibroue beer...la fin is my favorite unibroue for now. i dont' know anymore...trois pistoles is fucking great also... honestly i would try every unibroue you can get your hands on. i have not yet had one i didn't at least enjoy. they are one of my favorite brewers from anywhere in the world.

So not only do you have good taste in beer, but you tabbed a Sacramentum song. You're probably the coolest poster here.

Has anyone in here ever drank mead? I drank some last night for the first time and I enjoyed it.

Yeah I get mead from time to time. I prefer sparkling fruity meads to plain honey mead though.

Lol dude.. i think a pitcher of decent beer would put me out. It's fun to still be a lightweight, you can have a shot and a beer and already be in a smashing good mood.
I'm having Samuel Adams Boston Ale now, and I gotta say I like it more than the lager. Maybe it just depends on what day it is. They are pretty similar though. The Blue Moon pumpkin ale was pretty damn cool too, makes me want to pick up some DFH or Post Road higher quality stuff. It tasted of nutmeg with hints of pumpkin, it reminded me of gingerbread cookies and pumpkin pie or something. I bet the Dogfish Head 7% punkin ale would be even better for drinking when it finally gets cold here.

I had a bottle of some locally made honey wine a few months back. It was terrible. I've mead once before that and it was quite good. Chauncer's was the brand I believe.
Went to Garrison brewery last night and pick up a growler with some of of their new 6.5%, unfiltered Imperial Pale Ale. I also bought a 341ml bottle of it which was filtered and not nearly as good. What a delicious hop bomb the growler was..
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l...th/P1010153.jpg
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l...th/P1010154.jpg
..until my friend opened the fridge and my growler dropped on the floor..
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l...th/P1010156.jpg
I had one beer out of it..haha, fuck. He gave me most of his and my other friend's were feeding me unlimited Jack Daniels. Sure, I'd much rather drink a brand new local beer, but shit happens unfortunately.
We are thinking about getting a few 19.5litre kegs for next weekend of the shit.

I was working on Sacramentum tabs too. Blood Shall be Spilled and The Manifestation. It's too bad about all this legal bullshit though. Anyways, I'm drinking straight goldschlager right now.

blood shall be spilled is pretty good..i love the later parts of the song. i don't have the other song...i was just working on a few songs off of far away from the sun.
haven't had anything to drink today..later i might crack open the old peculier. i have a couple more fuller's ESB left, and one larger bottle of some tommyknocker imperial nut brown ale. "brewed with real maple syrup" should be interesting.

we have Theakston stuff here... let me know how that turns out.
I really need to bring a pen and paper into the store next time and write down all the stuff I haven't heard of. There may be some gems in there...

haha, those are indeed the same socks.
Yeah, it sounded like a small bomb when the growler hit the kitchen floor. What a buzzkill. Literally..
I'm fortunate to have good friends though and was offered all the booze I could drink. My friend is buying me another growler as well. It was the first time I was at the Garrison Brewery and I was very impressed. The layout is very well-thought and you can tell they're thrown some money into the design. Maybe I can take some pictures next time I'm there.

The last part of the song is my favorite Sacramentum moment. It's so beautiful sounding yet so dark. I've also tabbed out parts of Cries from a Restless Soul, which is another favorite of mine. Honestly I'm fucking pisses that tabs can't be put up anymore. I've got most of Mutiilation's Vampires of Black Imperial Blood tabbed out, as well as other French black metal classics like Bekhira's debut album. Anyways, I'm pretty drunk.

I think Stella Artois is just another fairly lame Fizzy Euro Beer, like Heineken or Beck's. Drink it if you like it though, so it takes up less space on my store shelves.

Sure, but.. when i'm drinking a beer that's not special, I ask myself "why am I drinking this again?"

the old peculier was different. pretty good..not amazing, but unique. kinda smelled like a porter at first but didn't taste like one.
i'm pissed...apparently i drank the last of my vodka last night and didn't remember. so now when i went to make a drink tonight...no fucking booze.
i threw the imperial nut brown ale in the freezer..gonna drink that i guess. it's over 9%
stella is alright..nothing to shit your pants about like many people seem to do. i do like those glasses though..my friend stole one from a bar a few months back..was quite nice.

I'm a big fan of OP. It's has a very thick rich taste, with almost a liquorice aftertaste. Awesome beer. If you like that, see if you can find Old Growler (I can't remember the name of the brewery off the top of my head).
I'm pretty devastated at the state of beer in Iceland. The same old pissy lager at wallet-melting prices.

Yeah Stella ain't SPECIAL but it's quite good, more than German's beer imo (kroningsberg (taste liek soya sauce), BitBurger ewwwwwwwwwww)
Indeed it's not for shit in your pant but between a stella and Budweiser, the choice is easy!
I bought a 12 pack of Moosehead, not bad but...it's far from my best (coup de grisou) , I prefer Stella!...I bought it for the glass too, LOL Im starting a collection of glasses....the next ones I want is Unibroue's glasses

yea, i think stella is like the budweiser of belgium. i agree that it is better than bud..that is a no brainer.
my favorite german beer is probably weihenstephaner hefeweissbier dunkel. it's got a nice flavor, isn't very expensive, and i've only seen it available in larger than 12oz bottles. it isn't very strong, but that is fine with me.

I don't think the Weihenstephan brewers can their beers... not sure, but call it a hunch.
I just spent $50 at the beer store thursday and I think I am going back tonight for a 6 pack and a nice tulip glass.

I picked up an Old Peculiar and a Rodenbach Grand Cru tonight, along with SNPA and some Dead Guy Ales and the new glass. Now, no more buying shit for a couple weeks (and this time I MEAN IT) because I used up all my cash. I had to go in the car and get a stack of quarters to pay. I have more beer than I know what to do with.
I saw a guy come in the store, well dressed with a shirt and tie and looking like he just took off his expensive jacket. He bought an expensive bottle of scotch and a six pack of Miller Lite, the world's finest trailer park beer.
Shit I should have got some brown ales... I guess I have to go back.

you should, it's good stuff.
i wouldn't imagine it would be too hard for you to get, you are much closer to colorado than i am.
clipper city heavy seas loose cannon
http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c...nt=IMG_3158.jpg
smells awesome, if you like hops that is. very hoppy smelling, it is labeled (on the bottle) as hop3 ale ..in other words hops cubed. so hoppy it has that great citrusy smell to it. head dissipated a bit, but a little is still there..did leave some lacing though.
this stuff is bitter. no doubt due to the large hop presence. body is medium to medium/light. the citrus flavor is more towards the beginning then it fades into hop bitterness and a nice pine flavor. for being 7.25% ABV, this stuff goes down without noticing the alcohol.
so far i've enjoyed all the beers from clipper city. unfortunately i think i've tapped out the selection available to me here..but i can still enjoy what i can get here. give them a go if you haven't tried them and see them at your local store.

might have to make some sn black and tans in his honor. might even try it with their porter..i used the stout last time..but yeungling uses a porter and lager.
shitty news, but the initial reports didn't seem to bring much hope of finding him alive i'd say.

I mixed SNPA and Porter before. I poured the porter over a spoon and it didn't float, but it was ok I guess. Don't really remember... 2 of my favorite beers right there though, I drank a fresh SNPA today after lunch in fact. They're using all pry-off caps now, so if you get twist caps you're drinking old beer.

hmm i've never seen the twist off before.
when i used the stout and pale ale, i didn't use a spoon..but i poured extra gently...and same shit happened. they mixed right together..it was a little bit lighter at the bottom than the top at least.

It's amazing the variety of micro breweries you Americans have access too. Bastards. About the only decent beers I haven't tried are only available in local brewpubs.
Myself and three other friends are buying a a 19.5 litre keg(56, 12oz beer) of unfiltered Garrison IPA(6.5%) for $80 on Saturday. $100 deposit..but for $10 get are getting it delivered to the party we are attending, which is going to be at a local Trailer Park...which, they filmed an earlier season of The Trailer Park Boys in.
And yes, we have plenty of back-up beer and hard alcohol on hand for after the wee keg is gone. Also, my friend is buying me a new growler of Garrison to replenish the one he dropped.
haha, I seriously cannot wait.
Weekend Plans for everyone?

no plans..just drinkin' mah vodker.
big ups on the trailer park keg party. make sure to demand 2 smokes from people.
to add salt to the wound. here is a "beer catalog" from the total wine and more store. that is generally what the one i've been going to lately has in stock. some of the seasonal stuff or newest additions might not be in there..other than that, should be everything.

Stores with seasonals? Fuck off. haha, I'm dying for this trip to Maine..hell, hopefully before this year ends.

haha fuck..i'm not even drunk yet but i forgot to post the damn link.
http://www.wineaccess.com/file/stor...-clearwater.pdf
hah figures people up there say it...down here we rock it (well i don't smoke..though i have said it a few times) ricky style. "two smokes lets go!"
man save up a shitload before you go. doesn't sound like you make it stateside too often, so you might as well bring home the fucking mother load. it would even be worth drinking cheaper shitty beer sometimes just to have extra money. i'd make a damn jar or something too...having something like that makes it easier than keeping the money in your wallet or bank account i've found.

Holy fuck on that beer list..I didn't even look at it all.
Man, it's hilarious the price difference..mainly on the domestic macro beer. Up here, you will pay over double those prices. No bullshit.
I used to go to the states usually at least twice a year as my family would go on trips together. After my parents split up 6 years ago, I've only visited a few times..usually the trips now are spent in the Caribbean.
My dad wants to drive up to visit my brother in Ottawa within the next few months. Originally we were going to go around this time but it had to be pushed back. He said we'd cross the boarder and come up down and then up again through the states to Ontario. Yeah, I'd definitely have some beer buying to do. haha. I'd be in heaven in some of liquor stores I reckon. You guys are extremely lucky. Enjoy every drop.

we enjoy it for sure. just make sure to take as much advantage as you can.
not sure what part of NY you will be in, but NJ is right next to it.

nice.... we need to trade sometime since you're only 1 state away. I might be able to come up with at least a couple that aren't on that list. Eventually I am going to run to Nashville and bring back a car load of every Stone beer I can find. Some for drinking and some for trading, hopefully.

Stone makes some damn fine beers. I would recommend getting as much of their Russian Imperial Stout as you can. It's one of the best Imperial Stouts ever brewed, I'm not kidding around, this stuff is amazing. Their double bastard is another great beer. Both of these weigh in at around 10% abv so you can't go wrong.

sadly, i've never had any beers from stone. have heard plenty of praise of their beers, they just don't sell them down here in florida.
the beer for today ( i have been just having one to two a day now) is bells kalamazoo stout. i posted a link to it on BA on either this page or the one before it. another delicious one from bells. so far i've not had any beer from them that i didn't like. this one has some licorice in it..i'm not a fan of that stuff, but it doesn't really stand out much, so it makes a good addition to the flavor.

My friend lives in So Cal, he's visited Stone Brewery and had lunch in their bistro or whatever. He can go to the corner store and buy Double Bastards and Imperial Russian Stout. I don't know why he doesn't SEND ME BEER.

Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter has passed away. I've read most of his Ultimate Beer Guide book as they had it at my school. Anyways, he was a true Advocate of Beer and deserves any good beer lover's condolences. Rest in Peace.

Yeah, that was found out some time ago. Good ole large corporation scandals.
BeerAdvocate has saved my weekend. Not only does the new brewmaster of Garrison work there, another employee does as well. I told them my situation about the company saying they were running out of kegged IPA for the weekend. Anyways, he secured me my keg and I'm very grateful.

sweet deal on that IPA. good ol' BA.
we (my old roommates and i) were talking about throwing down on one last keg..we were gonna get some good shit we could all agree upon from that total wine and more. unfortunately we never did since we were slackers and once it came down to last minute getting the hell out of there..last thing we needed was a keg.
tonight i went to a bbq with some friends of my moms side of the family. mostly britains there, the lady that lived there was scottish and gave me a fake threat since i was the only irish person there. i guess the scotts don't care for the irish hah. anyway, food kicked ass, but i brought a 6 of fuller's ESB and some spaten oktoberfest. i figured all those people from europe would be down with those beers (i avoided bottle conditioned, and beers with strong flavors)..yet none seemed to bite and drank bud and bud light. i even personally told several of them they could help themselves. oh well, now i have 3 of each to drink on my own haha. there was a really cute british girl there, but i think she was a little younger, and also they were heading back to the uk tomorrow. figures.
tomorrow i'm hitting up the store as i killed the last of my vodka tonight..gonna get more of that, and possibly a beer or two.

The Scottish hate the Irish too? I thought we hated the English? Either way, it's a pointless feud in my opinion since we all have similar genetic backgrounds.

yea, pointless to me too...she was just messing with me though.
well i had a thai beer today. we went and ate at this thai place so i figured i'd give their beer a shot while having their food. it was called singha http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/367/976 ..go figure, it's a lackluster lager. i honestly wasn't expecting it to be great in the first place, so no surprise there. was alright, i suppose i'd rather drink one of those than a budweiser..close call...not really sure.
went and reupped on the vodka..as fate would have it, i meandered on over to the beer isle. got a few beers...terrapin golden ale http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2372/9777 (despite the simple name, BA has it listed as a cream ale), adnams SSB (suffolk special bitter) http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/779/7615 , dogfish head punkin ale http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/6260 (this will be the second pumpkin beer i've had...the other one was decent..but it is just strange tasting pumpkin while drinking anything...figured i'd give it a go since it's dfh), clipper city - heavy seas (hs) - hang ten (unfiltered weizen dopplebock) http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/898/37323 , and cc - hs - peg leg (imperial stout) http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/898/19667 .
of the group, i've had the peg leg before..but i didn't get a picture of it..so i figured that was a good enough excuse to have another one.

you can get maudite here in the states..just have to find a decent store. check out beeradvocate for listings of stores or search the forum. that is how i discovered total wine and more was only minutes away from my house. i'd shit a brick if i found out about that place after i had moved away to a place that doesn't have them.

Have any of you ever tried lambic before? I'm not sure what it is exactly, it's lightly carbonated and very fruity. It tastes amazing, like carbonated fruit juice with a tad bit of alcohol. If it wasn't so expensive I'd drink this every day.

Lambics are Belgian dry hopped wheat beers fermented with wild yeast (you basically let it sit out and see what microorganisms decide to grow there, both from the winds and from the barrel or cask). A lot of them are aged with fruit or berries thrown in for flavor.

that only applies to what some would call "true lambics" there are now several that are made without the wild yeast process. the first that comes to mind would be sam adams cranberry lambic. personally i wasn't a fan of that one at all, but i would still like to try one of the higher quality belgian lambics.

Haha, yeah, clear bottles are shite, luckily my corner shop store them at the back so they don't get sun-raped.
That keg looks like heaven

You are lucky. Then only place that sells them here obviously doesn't know how to properly store clear beer bottles.
The keg was great. Although..it was gone in only a few hours. Next time we are going to get a standard 50litre keg for sure.

I should be kept away from kegs, I will sit with one either side of me!
It's a pain in the arse to get kegs over here, we just end up with crates unless your friends with a pub landlord really. Knowing one of my parties I'd need about 5, I demand and early start!! 12pm-2 days later is about right for a real party haha!

Quite a few breweries can do Polypins and Minipins (32 and 17 pints respectfully), some just do a box. You won't often find kegs round here unless, like Dyvim said, you are good mates with a publican That said, i'm a believer or proper ale being dispensed the proper way- by gravity, so i'll be more than happy with a polypin of ale

Aye, I was just talking to my grandad, he said around here there was a guy who owned an off-license, he did kegs, he'd come round in a van and set it up in yer house, tap it etc... for a small fee, I wish they still bloody did that, buying cans really pisses me off!

you guys get any quidi vidi beers? i had never heard of them, but i was watching some travel show with my grandma the other day and they went to newfoundland. part of their trip was to the quidi vidi brewery. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2281

We gave a couple of beer to my friend's father, one of the first thing's he said about it was "Too bad it's not Keith's or Blue". Silly old men.
I think they may have sold quidi vidi here several years ago, but no longer do so. Never tried any, and by judging by relatively poor reviews I've read about everywhere, I'm not too keen on trying it.

Does anyone else have to drop almost $20 on a 750 ml white label Jim Beam in civilized parts of the country? its about the same for a 350 of Makers Mark and dont fuckin get me started on Jack Daniels pricing. This is why people here drink natty light... $23 basically for the fifth and a 20 oz Coke. you get fucked up the ass before you even get drunk. oh wait did I say that out loud?

I pay about $14 for a fifth of white label Jim Beam. I don't drink Jack Daniels but I'm pretty sure it's around the $20 mark.

I had Sapporo yesterday...I like it for a japanese beer. It's defenitly not the best but, its quite good when you just want a beer with your friends without getting drunk

kirin ichiban is alright. i think we had it at the student apartments one night way back in the day. the best thing about it is the giant cans. i cant find the reverend out here in the sticks though, and thats a damned shame.

dogfish head punkin ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_3164.jpg
this is only the second pumpkin beer i've had (first being shipyard pumpkinhead), but i wasn't too fond of the former. wasn't bad, just weird tasting pumpkin in my beer i guess. i figured i'd give it a shot though.
smell is mainly of spices..at first i was thinking it was a smell of alcohol, but i think it is more of a spicy smell with some pumpkin in there. the pumpkin doesn't really jump out in the aroma..more of a subtle smell than i expected. i think i can also detect a slight malty smell.
taste is again, lacking in pumpkin compared to what i expected. i can taste a kind of pumpkin pie flavor in the aftertaste. much better than the shipyard i'd say.
medium bodied, spicy upfront then sort of bitter until it tastes mildly like pumpkin. a decent ale, but i still am not crazy about pumpkin in my beers. i could see having some more of this at thanksgiving or some fall seasonal party or something...but other than that, i'll stick with other seasonals without pumpkin, or just regular beers i can get anytime.

Had an Indian Brown Ale from Dogfish Head today. It wasn't too bad for a brown ale I usually find this style of beer a bit lacking or insipid in most aspects. I'd give it a nice 7/10 rating. I think I'm gonna head to the store in a few minutes and pick up some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. For those who haven't tried this you should, there is a reason it's so popular.
