I had the blue. It was kinda fruity. Good....but not worth 9 dollars.
So, does anyone know any lager that doesn't taste like water? Graf, I remember you talking about a beeradvocate event dedicated to disproving the "myth." If you didn't go, do you any of the lagers they let the people sample?

ahh...the blue is good. did you pour the yeast in too or leave it out? 9 bucks for a 750 is ok in my book.
i didn't go to the BA thing..but lagerwise there is sierra nevada summerfest, samuel smith's makes a few good ones, also there are several decent lagers from germany. i mostly just drink ales though, so my lager knowledge is somewhat limited.

Sam Adams Boston Lager is a good one.. I wouldnt drink anything less than that unless it was free. Brooklyn Lager is on the same level IMO. Fosters is lame, Australian for "made in Canada mate", Australia definitely doesn't claim the stuff either.

Boston lager is highly over rated. Its ok tasting, and makes my mouth have intense cotton mouth. Nearly every sam adams beer does that to me.

someone sent me a link to this place that sells a bunch of belgian beer. i've never seen most of this stuff available here..and most interesting of the bunch is the westvleteren 12 and 8. the guy is ordering a bunch of shit and asked if i wanted to tack anything onto the order since shipping internationally is expensive as hell. too bad it wouldn't get here by the time i move. some of the prices seem high..higher than at the store here..but a lot of the stuff i've just never seen ever.

sam adams cream stout was my first stout, made me pretty interseted in stouts but its PRETTY damn soy sauce-y , as are most dark sam adams so ive heard

as far as i know, not really. the russian part just stems from the origin of the style. the stouts..i guess double stouts (or just more robust stouts), were originally brewed by the british and given to russian imperials. they liked it, so the brits kept making it. eventually it caught on with others.
i don't know if there is any historical root for imperial ipas..but it pretty just means double ipa. i think they just borrowed the name. |

I love the Samuel Smith porter and OS.. if they weren't $2.75 for a single here I would have a lot more of them.
Today I have bought a lot of new things... Sam Adams Black Lager, Summer Ale, and Cream Stout, Brooklyn's Brooklyner weissbier, Rogue mocha porter... I think thats all. We'll see how it goes.
edit: i've opened the black lager and I must say, I am glad we have the Boston Beer Co. here in the US. If they can mass-brew such good stuff in the quantities they sell, why the hell do people drink urinish stuff. But I digress from my drinking. This one makes me smile  like a good porter or stout does, only it's not quite one of those. I could drink the fuck out of this, though.

haha, no..that's why I didn't know that they were brewing it for over a year.
I assume it's being bottled for Gay Pride week..each year there is a huge Gay Pride parade in Down Town Halifax. 
Menz Bar is almost directly across the street from the Propeller Brewery. Propeller and Garrison have both done beers in the past to 'help' the local bar community.
It's very unlikely this will ever be for sale at the government liquor stores. haha.

I just threw an 8ball stout down the neck. What a mighty refreshing beer. Now I'm working on a Lagunitas IPA. It's pretty damned good for an IPA, a style of beer I'm not particularly fond of. I prefer this over the Maximus, actually, which seems overly hopped just for the sake of hopping.

yea 8ball is pretty good. lost coast makes some good shit. i guess you don't care for IPAs but have you tried their indica IPA? i thought it was great.

yea, i doubt they'd appreciate that. we could have beer in our dorms..provided we were 21 of course, but no liquor. but we had some crazy parties in the dorms and student apartments and the "RA" would usually attend. |

ahh. yea drinks are drinks.
cool..they started selling those variety packs at the grocery store here a few months back. also a number of local places have their old scratch amber lager on tap. even though it isn't my favorite of their beers..i'm glad to see better beer getting a foothold.
funny thing is that this bar was having specials on drinks..buy one domestic get one free or something like that. so i ordered the old scratch and they tried to say i couldn't get a free drink. i told them it was domestic (from colorado i think) and after less than a minute..they said fuck it and gave in. though at a different bar i had a sierra nevada pale ale and the bartender asked the manager about it. the manager said no because it was a microbrew.  i should sue for false advertising and settle for free beer. |

heh i've only had everclear a few times. that stuff is rough straight! i've only had the displeasure of that experience a couple times though. the rest of the time that shit gets mixed with something.
this weekend i'm going back to the beer restaurant one last time. i hope they have some new beer on tap..and preferably good beer. though i've yet to be disappointed.  |

I drank a 500ml of Fuller's London Porter, 650ml of Propeller IPA, about 25oz of old Propeller ESB from the growler and a few Moosehead Dry Ice at 6%. My fuck the Dry Ice is bad.

ha haven't seen the dry ice..just regular moosehead. my roommate from buffalo, ny got a 6er of molson canadian. i haven't had it..but he seems to think it is good. i told him it was the canadian budweiser, and he just said it was much better than bud.
i'm sure it might be..but can't be by much. hah |

Under further speculation, I'm 98% certain "TravisB" is a friend of mine who drinks anything to get drunk. haha. It tastes like carbonated corn.
I don't know anyone that drinks Molson Canadian honestly. I guess it's bigger in west(Ontario and so forth) because they don't really have a "Provincial macro lager". Definitely the majority of my friend's are Keith's drinkers, but many have branched into huge Propeller fans.

I'm drinking one of the last Sweetwater IPAs i'll have for awhile... apparently someone at the state's Anheuser-Busch distributor heard it was slightly over 6% apv and made sure it's pulled from all store shelves. The local package store still had it, although they're all past the drink-by date. I picked up a 6pack thats only a couple weeks past, it still tastes fine. Fuckin Budweiser Birmingham does everything they can here to try to stamp out good beer and maintain their massive market share (such as opposing the bill to raise our apv limit to 14.9%, same as our wine limit), i've never bought a shit Anheuser-Busch product and I won't, ever.. I don't know why the craft beer community around here doesn't call them out and boycott.
but yeh Sweetwater IPA, it'll get ya drunk!! I wish someone would gimme a free glass.

Brewpubs do sound cool.. we have a few here I think, which is shocking. They must be heavily regulated.. I'm pretty they don't allow off-premises sales. It would be awesome to go fill up a growler of the freshest beer every couple of days. I guess people are more interested in those Coors bottles that turn blue when the beer gets to the optimal tastebud killing temperature.
Ok i looked it up, and apparently we can only have brewpubs in cities where a brewery existed before Prohibition, which is about 4 cities. The largest city (Birmingham) doesn't have one to my knowledge. But how fuckin crazy is that law? Can't buy alcohol on sunday either, and in about half the state you can't buy it at all (dry counties). I dont see what fuckin difference it makes though, because Sunday I'll be drinking the alcohol I bought 10 minutes away at the county line.

haven't been drinking beer really in the last couple weeks. just drinking smirnoff vodka. well i did drinksome beer the other night..went over to a friends house for his bday. watched his band practice/fuck around, then had some hoegarrden, fullers london porter, and high life light.
tonight i'm going to brother tuckers (the place that has good beer on tap, and lots of good bottled beer) for my "farwell get together" with local beer advocate people. should be a damn good time...i just wonder what is on tap now. hopefully some good shit, though i have yet to be disappointed. |

hell yea...they finally started selling brooklyn beers here. at my grocery store, they had brown ale, and the lager. obviously i went with the brown ale. haven't tried it yet..but gonna go to a friends place for some grilling, and will have some there. i've never had any of their beer before..so it should be a treat as i've heard they make good beer. |

I had Brooklyn Lager and the Brooklyner Weiss, they were OK... I was expecting a lot more head from the weiss (I got zero) but I only had one bottle.. maybe a bad pour or bad glass, I would try it again. The all malt lager was nice too, good for an alternative to SNPA and Samuel Adams Boston Lager as an everday fridge dweller. I don't really get into any pale and amber lagers and ales unless I'm really thirsty but it was tasty enough.
I'm not sure what other Brooklyn beers we have but I would try them... I think I've seen Brooklyn Brown Ale but I'm not really on fire for brown ales. If you can get the black chocolate stout send it here nao.

Bought myself a six pack of Faxe last night. The tall cans (8%) Brewed in Denmark. Fantastic beer I reccomend it, especially the 8% shit... I got fucked up And Scandinavian beer kicks ass.
