it even says how to pronounce hoegaarden on the handle of the 6 packs. i'm lazy though and usually say hoe instead of who.

so i had 3 beers today...and i bought one for tomorrow to celebrate with..a 750 of maudite.

for cheap non beer consumption i got a handle of old crofter (scotch) and to drink slowly and enjoy..i got some glenmorangie 10. it came with two nice glasses...probably take a pic of them later.

I got 2 nice glasses today from beercollections.com. The Arrogant Bastard Ale "fizzy yellow beer is for wussies" pint and a Sierra Nevada logo one. I can't get Arrogant Bastard and other Stone here but my friend from CA is a big fan (interestingly he has never tried a Sierra Nevada beer, which I enjoy regularly on the east coast). Eventually I am going to have to trade around for some or drive to Nashville and pick up as much as I can haul. Tonight it will be SNPA or maybe the least fizzy yellow beer I own, Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout.

Stone is one of the best US microbreweries, try anything you can get your hands on from them. Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, IPA, and omg teh Imperial Russian Stout and Ruination double IPA.

where you moving to? Their website lists all the states where they distribute. The only place in the southeast really is Tennessee. Eventually I'm going to drive up there (its about an hour or hour and a half drive for me) to buy some of the beers that are illegal to sell in AL. I've also been planning a trip to visit someone in CA and probably will go on a field trip to Stone Brewing Co with a spare empty carry-on bag. Maybe we'll do a BA trade sometime.

first i'm moving to tampa, fl..then maybe to mexico, missouri and after that i might even drive up to northern va to hang out with some old friends (and hit up this awesome mongolian bbq restaurant in dc!).

that really sucks about that law in alabama... that pretty much rules out a few styles right off the bat. i'd save up for that trip and bring back as much as you can! that would kick ass to take a tour of a brewery. the closest i've come to that is going to busch gardens in tampa where they have an AB brewery. unfortunately i wasn't old enough and was stuck with just eating the pretzels shaped like their logo. at least their beer pretty much sucks the big one..though free beer is usually good beer.

a BA trade sounds cool with me. bassbehemoth and i did a canada/us trade that worked out pretty good. i post on ba as xgrafcorex also..though i post here a lot more ha

sounds like a plan.

none of my plans are really set in stone just yet..but i'm gonna have some time to kill and no job or anything, so i thought it would be cool to head up there. have to figure out who all i know that still lives in that area. everyone seems to have spread out after high school. i'll let you know what, when, and where once i've figured it all out.

I dropped about $30 on beer today... hopefully a couple weeks worth. sam smiths, mackeson xxx, guinness, and firestone double barrel ale (which I picked on a whim after hearing it was good but not talked about enough on beeradvocate.com, and they didn't have any Anchor porters at the store which was my original choice or sweetwater IPA which is my go-to beer)

trans - i've never had any of their beers before. interested in hearing about them.

mat - which sam smiths? i'm not terribly fond of the old brewery pale ale or nut brown ale. i do love the oatmeal stout though! it is great shit. only had their IPA once and can't honestly remember my thoughts on that one. their lagers are decent. not the hugest fan of lagers to begin with but as far as lagers go..they are both in my top 10 i guess.

i got the oatmeal stout (i don't think any other beverage has made me feel so happy from drinking it) and the "famous" tadcaster porter. It was definitely a dark beer run, my fridge was full of sierra nevada pa and sam adams and I couldnt get the mental image of a pint of stout out of my mind.

I've not tried any other sam smiths... newcastle brown ale was the first beer I ever really drank and I liked it, but I tried Sweetwater brown ale and didn't think much of it, so i haven't been looking much into brown ales. I don't think i'd drop that much jack on a lager either when I can pick up Sam Adams 10 minutes down the road. I usually grab that or the SNPA when i'm thinking i need an everyday beer, then I wind up drinking all the better stuff everyday.

Samuel Smith is one of the best beers you can get for the price. I haven't tried the porter but both the oatmeal and imperial stouts are excellent. And Mathias, brown ales tend to be a bit insipid though there are some really good ones out there. Rogue's hazelnut brown nectar is probably the best tasting brown ale you can find...well, if you can find it.

That Mackeson XXX is really sweet. I didn't like it at first, but I guess it was alright. I'd probably give it a 75/1000...too overpriced.

I agree about Samuel Smith's being one of the best beer companies for the price. Unlike graf, I fucking love their nut brown ale, but am yet to find their imperial stout. Let it be known, once I see that beer on the shelf, Ima have to try it.

Graf- where are you going for 3 months?

I haven't posted my alcohol experiences in this thread for a while, so I'll let you peeps know the scoop:

My mother is convinced I am an alcoholic. She gave me a test where you grade yourself on how much you drink, how frequently, if you ever pass out, if people are concerned about it...etc. Anyways, if you score over a 4, apparently you have a drinking problem. My mother got a 3 and I got a 17...lawl.

Monday night, I had another debaucherous experience with rum. I wont elaborate too much, but it involved my friend kicking me in hte balls repeatedly because he couldn't wake me from my slumber.

Tuesday I bought a 6 pack of Hoegaarden and some Samuel Adams Honey Porter. The Honey Porter was a little sweet but suprisingly not bad. Plus, it was very competitivley priced...6 for a 6er. I was drinking with my friend who detests beer, so he just chugs them. I was kinda pissed seeing my expensive ass Hoegaarden being beer bonged, but watching him bong the Porters what just flat out hilarious.

Wednesday was the 4th of JUly. My dog was missing, I was pissed, so I got hammered. Me and 1 other friend drank a nice 6 pack of this New Belgium Trippel beer. It is from the same makers of Fat Tire. They have some fucking spectacular beers. Check out their Abbey for a nice orgasm in hte mouth We also got a 24 of Lonestar and took half a xanex.

Last night, me and a buddy got some Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale and a bottle of cheap wine. He drank at least 2/3 of the bottle and I barely had any. He got bored, called up a mutual friend and asked her to fuck. She said yes, he left. lawl.

i'm moving in with my mom in tampa (fuck yea...definitely hitting up the tampa bay brewing co!) then maybe helping her move up to missouri where my dad is until i finally move to pensacola, fl for OCS (officer candidate school) for the navy. might head up to virginia for a little between now and then...if that is the case, i'm gonna hit up tmfreak and do some drinking with him.

well tonight was a great night. went to a beer advocate gathering of local BAers. we met up at this local place called brother tuckers that has awesome food and great beer. tonight they had (on tap) weihenstephaner hefeweizen, acme pale ale, unibroue ephemere, and buffalo belgian stout. other than the weihenstephaner..they replace everything once it is dry..so before i left they had replaced the acme with mendocino whitehawk IPA, and the buffalo with rogue shakespeare stout.

all in all i had a great time. everyone was really cool, the food was awesome..even though i wasn't feeling up to par and didn't finish it, and the beer was of course delicious. someone also brought a bottle of st bernardus abt 12 60th anniversary to split with everyone. since there were more than a handful of us, we didn't get much each, but enough to try the stuff. good, but i'd have to try some more and some more of the normal abt 12 to come up with a definite preference. also had some gouden carolus grand cru. quite a night!

since i'm leaving the area at the end of the month, they decided to put me in charge of setting up the next gathering before the end of the month. i can't wait!

Cheers to that. That is one delicious American brown ale.

I bought over $60 worth of booze tonight, although in Canada it is not hard to do so. 750ml of Crown Royal, sixer of Propeller ESB, sixer of Mill Street Pale Ale and a couple Belgians(Orval and Chimay red). Uhh, most of all that is gone. lol. Had a few drinks of 12 years aged Chivas Regal as well.

I'll drink the rest of the CR during UFC 73 tomorrow. lol.

yeah colt 45 isn't very good. But its a forty.

Oklahoma has 3.2% abv colt 45s. How fucking stupid would that be to buy that nasty beer just so you can drink a shit load of it?

The high gravity St. Ides 40s i had in tennessee were the shit. 12.5% abv. 2 of them definitely fucked me up. I drank them pretty fast and as a result you can imagine.

Yeah, Sleeman's honey brown isn't too terrible.

This is several pages late, but I said that IPAs aren't meant to be that dark. In reference to the previous comment about an IPA being dark. Not that they're bad, which you must have pulled out of some strange insecure portion of your ass.

no, i believe it was because you left the word dark off the end which meant it said IPAs weren't meant to be.

there are darker IPAs though. not stout or porter dark..but there are many shades of IPA.

this whole not drinking beers (save a few at that BA gathering, and one since) is really getting old.

I just noticed your review on the Propeller RIS graf..it seems you really enjoyed it, great to hear! I haven't had any in several weeks now that they finally stopped brewing it for the season. I'll have to scour the private stores to see if there are any around.

I had some Keith's( http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/6994/264 ) my friend's offered me last night. I have a friend that always rags on me for not drinking the shit anymore because I've found better beer. lol, what a tool. It's almost like he feels abandoned because I've found much better beers. I had two of them and they weren't too terrible..being ice cold and all though.

Again, it would be rated MUCH better if it wasn't labeled an "IPA".

It wasn't too bad, but the Propeller IPA was much better.

I really need to find some new beers to try though.

i've never had that one..i have had some IPAs i didn't care for though for sure.

yea the RIS was damn good. i want to try some of the stone RIS but i have to find someone to trade with. also that damn dark lord. it's always so expensive on ebay. at that BA gathering this guy brought in a couple bottles of beer as a gift to someone there..a bottle of westvleteren abt 12 and i forget if the other was the 8 or the 6. either way, lucky guy!! you have to buy that stuff in beligum as far as i know. or from people that got it there and brought it home one way or another. hopefully since they know i'm leaving soon, the guy will hook it up as a parting gift.

i looked at the 6 packs of that shit on ebay...buy it now for 42 bucks..i think then there is insurance, and then shipping is another 40 or so..total it was about $103 shipped for a 6er... i think i'll wait till i have some time and money and just go to belgium and enjoy lots of beer.

Damn, what a gift.

There are sites from Belgium that will ship Westvleteren and SEVERAL other Belgium beers...but I guess shipping is insane.

Had a few beers last night, in a place called Beer Circus... amazing! Between 250 and 300 different beers, mostly belgium beers- incredibly good stuff The three i had were Waase Wolfe, Aderalus and Hercule; the last two being nice dark stouts, delicious! Good times were had and i'll be paying more frequent visits there in the future.

Warning to all: don't buy Kriek style beers unless you really like a huge sour flavour, not my thing at all, definitely an aquired taste

I believe that the sour flavor is due to a microbial infection, which some drinkers enjoy in their beers, especially when it comes to Belgian ales. Another possible way to make a beer sour is to use a sour mash technique. Guiness does this with their world famous stout.

Anyways, I just knocked back one of my home brewed Organic Kenai Porters. It had a slight sour taste to it, probably due to a mild microbial infection. It still tasted great and the buzz is pretty decent.

Have any of you tried your hand in home brewing?

too much work to home brew, and my beer palate is developed enough to accuratley critique what i create. im sure in a few years ill give it a shot

all day i was looking forward to coming home after work and having one of my saranac koelsch, rare that an american beer company tries that style. instead my back hurt too bad so i ended up taking tramadol.

another day...

yeah they are what killed ODB. two wont make you trip though. they make my bone ache go away (takes about a sixpack to do that...) pretty well but i am not a big fan of the feeling. try to avoid taking it.

This beer (i forget the name), was a cherry Kriek, so the cherries added to the sourness of it. It was my mate who ordered it, he likes that kinda taste- i'm more of a dark stout man myself

I was going to start homebrewing about six months ago (was going to go with a partial mash to kick off), but i figured that i'd wait and read+learn more, but now that i have the extra knowledge, my circumstances have changed and i can't afford the initial 'overheads' for it. I'll do it after my course has finished, so i imagine that by about 2010, i'll have a few under my belt

Whilst i was reading through the menu at Beer Circus (it tells you a little about each beer), i learnt that Lambic beers aren't fermented in the usual way, and the beer is left to naturally aquire bacteria/yeast from the air to get it's unique flavour over a much longer period of time- months/years!

one of my roommates and i tried it once last year. we fucked it up by killing the yeast...added it to the wort right after taking it off the stove instead of letting it cool first. it's a lot of work though (mostly just cleaning everything really well) so we never really got around to trying it again. once i'm settled in somewhere, i want to read up on it some more. have two books in pdf form that i haven't read yet hah..tons of information there.

thats the type they have a lot of. im intriguied. i very much enjoyed the sam adams cranberry lambic in the winter pack

i had a saranac pomegranate wheat the other day and was totally un impressed. wouldnt have known it was fruity and it was a very boring wheat beer. it wasnt offensively bad but it was just boring.

trans - i wasn't a fan of the sam adams lambic..but i have seen the ones you posted about before. thought about giving them a go one day..but they are about 5 bucks each so i never have gotten around to it.

sqol - that link doesn't work..but i see the word gouden and only know of one beer in a white bottle like that. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48/155 pretty good stuff. i've only tried it once though, but my impression of it is that i'd gladly have more. even if i had to pay for it.

also, go back and check those links bassb posted some pages ago..theres a video there that shows/talks about the lambic brewing process involving wild yeast. pretty interesting stuff.

Trans: The coolest bottle on the table in that pic is my last beer; the Hercule with the swing top Swing top bottles are where it's at, they're brilliant!

I was going to take my camera that evening, but i decided against it... i definitely will do next time, so i can get some high res pics of the goods.

Brutal. Try not to die. My last birthday, I double-fisted double rye and ginger ales for a few hours. $1 drink night at a nightclub..spent about $35..not including free drinks.

The morning after..

lololololololololololololololololololololololololol

I'm drinking a Newcastle Brown Ale. I'm suprised at how low the score is on beeradvocate. I find the unique carmel taste quite delish.

in my quest to get drunk without adding much weight to myself..i bought a 750 of vox vodka. for the hell of it, and since i haven't had a beer in a while..i bought a 750 of allagash grand cru. i've heard great things about this beer...and can't wait to try it. since i was talking about westvleteren 12 at work today and can't get any without paying an arm and a leg..i bought a small bottle of st bernardus abt 12..good shit! and to add to the selection of beers to be consumed (one day) in a blind tasting..i got a bottle of hoe garden.

Newcastle is classic... first beer I ever bought. I don't buy it anymore because it's more than $10 a six pack, and I can get better US craft beer for that price, even in Alabama. I'll drink it again eventually, though...

haha, fuck off.

At the NSLC the other day, they had the Hoegaarden in 6 pack form..yet still had the 'single bottle' price of around $2.40cdn. Pfft, a six pack would cost a small fortune. Arseholes.

haha just thought it sounded funny. sipping on the only beer i'm having tonight...the st bernardus abt 12. mmmm is good sheeit. i decided to save the allagash for saturday. going to have my "farewell" ba gathering at that brother tuckers place. i might even pick up another bottle to split with everyone so we can each have more than a couple sips.

next is some vodka. not a huge fan of the vodka...gonna throw some olives in there and drink it straight (the bottle has been sitting in the freezer)..if i really don't like it..i have some club soda i can splash in to cut it a little.

So do people agree with me that Newcastle is delicious?

I had a Carlsberg Pilsner last night. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/721/2270/?ba=bros

Kinda disappointing.

Also had Tilborg's Dutch Brown Ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profil...6/?ba=Rudgers73

Really subtle taste for a brown ale, but I enjoyed it. Nice carbonation.

I saw a guy I knew from high school at the liquor store today buying a cheap bottle of vodka and a 6 pack of Michelob Ultra. I remember in 10th grade he drank straight Chlorox bleach attempting to pass a drug test, so maybe he lost his taste buds or something.

baha, two of my friends bought keystone, last night. one is visiting, from mexico, and he is on a tight budget, for a whole week, so hes buying CHEAP. I, however, bought some rum, and a 12 pack of Corona. that is my favorite, in the likes of budwieser, milwaukees, etc.

I drank two sixers last night; one of Millstreet Pale Ale, and the other of Propeller ESB. I got pretty drunk because I only ate one meal yesterday.

Baha! im not really much of a beer person. i drink rum. and sometimes i like draught or brown ale. but lime is a big thing here, and i like it with some beers, nothing dark though. also, this corona was for our barbaque. i dont know why i wanted to explain that. *sucks on a lime*

edit: that isnt just any mjolnir, its mithotyns logo! that much more important.

samuel smiths is a british brewery. their oatmeal stout and porter are my favorites by a landslide. it helps that i'm particularly fond of both styles..but they are delicious.

was at my second BA gathering tonight. a fucking blast. haha some funny ass people. we decided to have one more get together before i leave, even though this was the "brian farewell gathering" same shit on tap unfortunately, but still good. had some mendocino white hawk ipa, rogue shakespeare stout, and weihenstephaner hefeweizen on tap...had a bottle of la fin du monde with my food, and i brought two 750s of allagash grand cru to share with everyone. weren't as many people as i though by the time we opened them...but that just meant more for each of us hah. a very tasty beer. at first i wasn't too keen on it, but i warmed up to it after a few sips. perhaps it was the previous beer that was interfering. good shit...if i wasn't moving soon, i'd bu another bottle just to add to the collection.

how's that Weihenstephaner... I've never tried a wheat beer and I'm thinking about getting a couple next time I go to the store. Weihenstephaner has great reviews and it's probably the one I would choose if they have any. Otherwise it will be a Sam Adams Summer Ale, Brooklyn's brooklyner weissbier, maybe Sierra Nevada wheat, whatever is there.

BOB_ZE_METAL: find the St. Ambroise oatmeal stout, it's pretty impressive stuff as well as the rest of the St. Ambroise line.

its some good shit. oldest still active brewery in the world. established in 1040! their hefeweizen dunkel is my favorite easily. their koriban isn't too bad either. if you want to try others of the style, i'd go with hoegarrden, allagash white, or sierra nevada wheat. even lienenkugels sunset wheat is pretty good.

EVERYONE IN AMERICA....start purchasing beer from the New Belgium company...same peeps that make Fat Tire. They have quite a variety of beer, and I'm yet to find a shitty one. Plus, 6 packs are under 8 bucks, at least here in Texas.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192

Last night, I had their sunshine wheat beer= http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/1911/

The abv was actually 7%. That is a little too low of a score in my opinion.

I also had the abbey. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/1912

The Abbey is my favorite, and has the score to reflect it.

Since I was drinking with a lot of people, I also purchased a 6 pack of Dos Equis and an 18 of Coors. Coors original isn't too bad...much better than Budweiser. It was a fun night.

nah i dont like fruity beer, I'd rather drink a bunch of stout/porters and feel "like having a cunt in his period", whatever that means mate.

Usually samuel smith is brought up because of the celebrated oatmeal stout, I just assumed thats what you were looking for too.

mathias krieg, where are you from?

I was fucking wasted last night..and even beer bonged a chimay red and an orval. May the monks have mercy on my soul.

I ran and jumped full speed into a tree last night and sprained my wrist pretty bad. Hopefully my friend uploads the video soon.

I also went running down my friend's street at around 5am wearing nothing but my boxers and exposing my naked ass. Beer before vodka before whiskey...

I'm from Alabama, behemoth.

And Bob, Sam Smith brewery makes a lot of beers, the Oatmeal Stout is probably the most famous (for my money) because it was the first commercially available one after oatmeal stouts had basically disappeared from the earth. They make a fine porter, pale ale, lager, imperial stout, English IPA (less balls than the ones we make here ), brown ale, etc. as well.

Chimay is 9 bucks before tax for a 750 ml bottle. I tried it once, definately not worth the price. I hear they would cost about $2.50 in belgium. That is their "40 ouncer".....lucky cunt fucks.

I had a pretty amazing evening.

It started out with a hike. Me and buddy brought some whiskey along and killed about half a liter and then smoked a joint. We then ran into some chick who asked us if we smoked pot. "Of course," said we. She busted out some dro and we proceeded to smoke. Then we traversed some rocks not made for traversing and drank some more.

She booked it, we said bye.

Went home, took a shower.....time for my raido show.

Bought a 6 pack of Abbey (New Belgium) and drank with my co-host. Met up at another dudes house and had a couple tecates. Met up with a metal chick. Went on air, drunk as fuck and had an awesome show. Sang along with power metal on air....I'll post the youtube video soon.

We got off the air around 2 am. Went to metal chicks house. She cooked a 3 course meal at 2:30 in the morning while giving us beer and mixed liquor beverages. I got pretty drunk and then we smoked a bong. Listened to some krunk as Samael and passed out around 4:30 am.

Woke up at 7:30 to come home and celebrate my sister's b-day. lotz of lolz and fun was it.

Yeah, I was talking about a 330ml size. They sell Chimay blue in the 750ml size for a little over $10.

which chimay did you try moe? i'd say the blue is my favorite, then the white, and last would be the red. i forget how much the 750ml bottles cost though. they started selling the red in 750 form at the local grocery store hah. theres no price listed though.

Well, had my first lager the other day lol. It was a Fosters i forogt how many ounces it was but it was kinda bad but kinda good at the same time. seems liek it goes down smoother than the light beer we usually get drunk off. but there was some background taste that was terrible bit it went away after a while.

i still wanna try stout really bad, ive been soo close to trying one. Everytime i have someone go get it or about to somehting alwasy happends.
the only stout i can find around is guinness drought, guiness extra stout. or samuel adams cream stout. maybe ill find more. but wich of those would urecomend i try for my first stout?
