i've had one french beer before... it's called belzebuth http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/36/114 didn't really care for it..but it is pretty strong. 13% ABV. don't think i've had any other french beer..just french canadian beer. haven't had any spanish beer that i know of either..

i can get it at two different stores...one is mostly wine, but also lots of liquor, over 200 kinds of beer, cigars, and other various shit like glasses, cigar cutters etc. the other one sells mostly beer but also has some liquor and home brewing supplies.

well i can't say what i love about the smuttynose ipa since i've never had it..i like ipas in general because of their bitter hoppy flavor. i prefer it to be a little balanced out with malt..but i definitely love my ipas hoppy. try some other ipas before losing faith in them completely.
drinking a strange ipa right now..
allagash hugh malone ale. hugh malone is dead..but used to brew beers that were highly hopped. pretty much started the trend of less balanced hoppy beers. as such..this is a pretty hoppy beer..though is also a belgian style ale. ba calls it a belgian ipa.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_2443.jpg
smells like citrus and hops with a hint of pine. tastes much the same..but this is where the belgian influence comes through. the yeast kicks into the flavor alongside the hop and citrus flavors. medium-heavy body. 8.5% ABV pretty tasty stuff. compared to the only other belgian ipa( http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/27804 ) i've ever had..this is damn good. wasn't a huge fan of the other one, it was ok though.
the alcohol is subtle for 8.5% can't say i notice it at all. the only downside to this beer is that it is expensive! a limited release i believe. though allagash donates one dollar from every bottle sold to some group that is teaching farmers in maine (where malone moved to from ireland) about organic farming. i guess particularly organic farming of crops used to make beer..but don't quote me on that.

cool..i'd love to try it one day. ipas are easily one of my favorite styles of beer
though i do love most of them haha. if you can find avery ipa, that one is pretty solid. nothing crazy groundbreaking or anything..but damn good. lots of other good ipas though...if that one grew on you..try some others and see what you think.

Definitely, and after trying Dogfish Head 90min...the propeller ipa doesn't do a whole lot for me. lol.
I'm envious of the big american ipa's, we don't get any around here..you have to go to a brewpub or beer bar to have a half decent ipa.

haha bass that sucks...sorry to spoil your ipa there. i liked the propeller ipa a lot. i could definitely sit and kick back a 12er of those before a 12 of 90min. it's definitely a better ipa to get someone into ipas with. i think i liked the 90 better than the 120 though...of course i'd like to compare an aged 120 to a 90. one thing about that though is that i've heard aging a hoppy beer results in a lot of the hop flavor subsiding..which doesn't sound great to me since i love the hops...then again..there is probably plenty going on in that beer so that it would still be really good..just very different.
trans - which dogfish head is it? some are kinda out there with flavor. particularly the midas touch, raison d' etre, and immort ale. i honestly couldn't finish the midas touch, the raison d' etre i had a long time ago..before i was sure of what styles of beer i really liked other than stouts..but didn't care for it much. i should really try another before deciding it wasn't something i liked since i think my tastes have evolved a bit. there is also raison d' extra which i've never had..but it is expensive. immort ale is a barelywine style ale (which i didn't realize when i bought it) and i'm not too into those..it wasn't bad..but i don't plan on getting anymore until i decide i like barleywine ales hah.
the ipas are really good...the world wide stout was awesome but is expensive as hell. other than that the iba or indian brown ale was pretty good...and the corked red and white was nice too. you might actually really like the red & white. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/32435 it's a witbier. i haven't had the blue and white though.. neither are cheap..but they only come in 750ml corked bottles.
if they have 60, 90, and 120 min ipas...i would start off with the 60 then try the 90. they taste similar yet quite different.
edit..forgot to throw this link in my review of the allagash hugh malone http://hughmalone.com/ a semi brief biography

My favorite is their Indian Brown Ale. It's 7.2% abv and is "well hopped." Really delicious.
If you aboslutely love hops, then go for the 90 minute IPA. That beer is definatley class.

Oh definitely, it is definitely a good session ipa...but I'm just complaining about the total lack of ipas in general around here.

that sucks bass! ipas rule..and luckily there are quite a few for my consumption here. i read about people bitching that florida has a limited beer selection though! i haven't really bought any craft beer since i've lived here..so i'm really interested in finding out what other states have to offer that florida doesn't. one thing i did notice on BA is that pensacola, fl seems to have a shitty selection..except for one store but it is expensive. that is where i'll be if i get all the way into OCS for the navy.
trans - i'd try the 60 and the 90 min ipas from dfh. they are fairly different tasting. the 90 min is a double ipa which is recommended to be consumed via a snifter or tulip glass rather than a pint glass like the 60 min.
ha i just ba'd their ipas and apparently there is a 75min ipa!? http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/15758 must be new since i've never seen nor heard anything about it. i bet it is pretty good though...
edit...i just noticed all the reviews of the 75 min were based on beers that were on tap...i guess they don't sell bottles? damnit. will have to find this shit..hopefully this local place brother tuckers will get some! they change out their beers on tap whenever they run out of the keg and usually have 4 different micro or quality imported beers on tap. last time i was there i had a few avery ipas and a st bernardus with on tap! mmmmmmmmmm!

haha they have some cool shit though. i bought 6 trois pistoles glasses with 100 various unibroue coasters for 20.50. way better deal than those 2 unibroue glasses i saw before.
also..i've looked through every person that says they have dark lord is for trade on ba..and not one of them actually has it in their list..they just come up when you search "got" for dlis.. assholes. so it looks most likely i'd have to drive there one april..or at least wait till next april to trade while there are still a bunch of them out there. otherwise i'll have to buy one on ebay.
trans - those are two damn good beers. never had the st ambroise apricot. recently had that st bernardus wit on tap...mmmmm.

I ended up buying more vodka. lozzle. i dont know if you guys have heard of this one either. its called monopolowa. weird name. but, back when i was 17, that is what my sister, and her boyfriend, picked out for me and my friend, on vacation. we had a good time. so when i was at the liquor store, i saw it and though "YEAH, LETZ HAVE ANOTHER GOOD TIMEZ". but why the FUCK did i get a hangover, this time, and not when i was nearly a kid
in any case, it did turn out to be my best day there. it was dark and rainy, and i absolutely love swimming in that type of weather!!!

What are you? Russian?
I had sauza gold tequila and five alive peach in mixed drink form the other night, it was actually really good. It was also really good that my lady friend drank it too.
Girls on tequila make me a happy man.

Vodka doesn't agree with my stomach, even a few shots will have me on the toilet 20 minutes later shitting my eyeballs out.
I've been drinking this really good beer lately made in my city called "Dude" It's made by Pacific Western Brewing which is a local company that has been around for 50 years now. Their other beers aren't too good, but "Dude" tastes great, and it's only $10.12 for a 6-pack

Yeah man It tastes awesome too, and it's dirt cheap. Sometimes I can get some of it for free too as I have a friend that works at the brewery, employees get 2 free cases a week (12-packs)

All of the beer this company brews seems to be either a lager/pilsner, but they have one Red Ale. haha, fuck.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/473
Shit, there are all kinds of breweries in BC, check out this list!
http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/lis...id=BC&brewery=Y
I gotta refill at least 3 growlers for Canada Day..and then buy more beer. WOOOOOO! Probably refill two IPAs and a bitter..and then buy some bombers or another 6 pack. And probably some whisky thrown in there. It's going to be a sloppy night.
What's everyone drinking for Canada Day(July 1)/4th of July?

haha awww i'm loved. i clicked the link blitz posted but didn't see if it was a lager or ale..figured the former. so i gave it the ol' ba.
yea, i gotcha on the na macro lager..just funny to see it. though i guess i don't take as much notice when i see an american or french canadian belgian style ale that is simply labeled belgian ale or whatever.
that "euro dark lager" could be worth a shot. i was gonna say that about the german pilsner..but the ratings were terrible.. 100% thumbs down. it was 50/50 on that red ale. it says organic too..so far i've only had 3 organic beers that were decent..the rest tasted weird.
haha this can rules http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/473/7983 was thinking maybe their munich dunkel lager would be worth a try.
edit...no clue what i'm drinking on the 4th. have some fireworks though! ouch that is a wednesday..whatever i'm drinking..it won't be very much of it.

I'm not sure. Do they sell anything there made by Pacific Western brewing? It's in Northern B.C. where I live. If they don't sell it there now, they might in the future because it's really tasty and fair priced. It is a new beer, only been around for a few months but it might gain popularity in Canada just because of the name

Probably not, especially due to our inter-provincial laws.

yeah that was me, i had three bottles of it.
it was my first stout ever, and i tried more. sam adams is great for getting your feet wet, they do a pretty good job on all their styles (witbier, stout) but its definitely not the be all end all in the style.
the stout was good, a little soy-saucey though.

I drank a bunch of different beers while i was in Australia and found out a bunch of interesting shit.
its fucking crazy they have drive through liqour stores on nearly every fucking street. They have rum and coke on tap, AND they have that shit in like 6 pack of cans haha.
I will upload pics of the beers i drank while i was down there. I think there was like 1 or 2 that i didn't get a pic of.
I'm sure they are probably your "standard" beers in australia.

I never drank it but i really wanted to try it out.
Its almost hilarious how much alcohol stores they have. They are all over the fucking place. Although they all close like super early.
Apparently nearly everything closes (at least in queensland) at like 7-9pm at night.
pfff.

trans - yea thats right. wasn't sure who it was. i've still not tried the cream stout, but you are right. sam adams is great for getting into good beer beyond bud, miller, and friends...but i won't say any of the sam adams rank at the top of any particular style they make.
tm - haha fucking rum and coke on tap and in cans?!?! thats crazy..
have any coopers over there? i've had their dark ale and best extra stout. didn't realize they were both bottle conditioned until it was too late though.
edit..that sucks about closing early. when i was in italy i noticed places closed fairly early..not that early..but i found out the hard way by trying to get some beer later in the evening. after that i just made sure to have it covered before hand...though i really didn't ever get really drunk there..just a good buzz.

I went a little overboard yesterday. I pissed off a friend by getting way to drunk and making an ass of myself. My pants were soaking wet (not urine, but like water from swimming) when I woke up. The poison was rum.

I'm refilling 3 growlers(64oz each) at Propeller tomorrow and buying a 750ml bottle of locally made Honey Wine(mead). I just found out today that it's the only mead that the government stores sell.
Should be a hellava Canada Day.

i've had tsing tao. i've definitely had worse beers..but i didn't care for it at all. i wonder if chinese people even drink it? kinda like fosters in australia.
in the end i've yet to have an asian beer that was great in any way. drinkable..but not something that causes me to put something i just grabbed down when i see it.
the only other chinese beer i've had was yanjing beer "the official state beer of china" hah wasn't good..luckily i didn't buy them...just got one from my roommate. not sure why he bought them though.

Tsing Tao is just another bland lager. I thought it was alright but definitely nothing I would pick up at the store. I'm mostly a beer drinker though the occasional bottle of cinnamon schnapps or Jagermeister makes it's way to my palate. My beers of choice would be:
1. Black Butte Porter - Deschutes
2. Hazelnut Brown Nectar - Rogue
3. Speedway Stout - Alesmith
4. Diabolique - Cuvee
5. 8ball Stout - Lost Coast

Sapporo isn't a very good macro lager...it's so Japanese, I guarantee the can you get is brewed in Canada by Sleeman's.
Welcome new guy! Please contribute to the 'metal scene' in this thread!

Thanks for the welcome. Black Butte Porter is brewed in Oregon so it might be a bit hard for you to come by. The Speedway Stout is more of a gourmet stout and costs around $10 for a 22oz bottle. It's pretty hard to find. I've tried the Mystique too, I liked it quite a bit.

Here are my Australia Beer Pictures.
XXXX Gold
This is 4X Gold as its said. This beer was alright. it was only 3.6% alcohol though. Had a SLIGHT taste of honey in it, or a slight sweet taste anyways. Also the local drive through liquor stores and bars are called 4X.
Victoria Bitter
Or VB for short. A bunch of people that had already been out and drank this beer came back and told me to get this. They were like yeah it tastes just like Budweiser! I was like why would i fly 15000 miles to drink shitty fucking beer?
Needless to say i could see where they would say budweiser but it wasn't nearly as shitty.
Tooheys New
This is Tooheys New. This is my friend who advocated buying it. It was pretty damn good. It was a solid choice that the majority of people over there were drinking.
Tooheys Old
This was without a doubt my beer of choice. Tooheys Old is a Black Ale. It tasted very similar but better than the Sam Adams Black Lager. I drank this the majority of the time while i was over there. It had a similar to taste to the Sam Adams one overall but it didn't nearly have as much mouth drying effects as Sam Adams.
Blue Tongue
This is Blue Tongue. It was the most expensive beer i drank while i was there trying beers. It was a good lager. It was about 5 dollars a pop at the Hotel bar. It was a good buy with a cool lizard on the front.
Carlton Mid
Another Lager. It was pretty good but average overall. This is a shitty picture of the beer. It has running horses on the label which was cool.
Overall the alcohol in Australia was surprisingly good. There wasn't anything that didn't fancy my taste. They also often stocked Corona and Heineken beers obviously of which i didn't buy. I must say i really liked the Tooheys Old. It was very full and a mans drink.

this thread is massive, I don't even know where to start... can you say beer forum?
I live in alabama where there isn't beer, except for here: http://vulcanbeverage.com/beer.asp
it really is the best store selection in the state.
no beer over 6% abv, except for some reason they have Rogue Brutal Bitter ESB which is 6.5, and maybe some others that push the limit. The lawmakers have said it helps cut down on young drunk drivers, because I guess it's easier to get drunk on a 10% Stone Imperial Russian Stout than with a cooler of Natty/Bud Ice, a fifth of Jim Beam, or a bottle of 150 proof rum and a 2 liter coke.
I think its going to be Sweetwater IPA or yet another Sam Adams Boston Lager tonight. Sweetwater IPA is one of the best beers we have going for us in the southeast, out of Atlanta. It's weak for an IPA (5.9%, my guess is so they could distribute it in Alabama), although that means you IPA fans may be able to drink a 6 pack and not regret it tomorrow.

tm - mostly lagers over in australia i guess? did you see any coopers on sale? they make some ales and a stout.
those stores you guys posted seem pretty good..trans that store looks like it kicks ass! you can probably get anything i can get here except maybe a few florida beers or something.
celebrating canada day...bought a bottle of maudite, don de dieu, trois pistoles, and a larger corked bottle of la fin du monde. no maple syrup chugging though.

Any love for Rogue beers? I just drank my first Dead Guy Ale after the Sweetwater IP... kind of sweet raisin taste that was new to me, heavy alcohol, reminded me of Early Times whiskey if I let it sit on the tongue long enough, and finishes with that sierra nevada pale ale biscuit taste. Interesting.. I will have to have another, but not tonight. I have the Brutal Bitter also in the mini fridge, which is bound to be interesting.

yea rogue has some good beers. i don't care for the dead guy as much as i used to..perhaps i had a bad batch though. my favorite is either the shakespeare stout, or the xs imperial stout. though as far as cost goes...i'll stick with the shakespeare!

I got a six pack of Blue Moon Belgian White. It was by far the best beer that I've ever got. Before the six pack I was finished I was totally drunk. I finished it though.

I'm actually drinking one of those now. Like tranny previously said, this is a Coors product.....It's alright. If you like these, try Hoegaarden...it'll knock your fuckin socks off.

I also enjoyed watching the videos. Now, I'll stop calling the beverage "HOE - Garden" and switch to "who - garden."

I'm obsessed with correct pronunciation.

loz.
just because the meaning is "old odin". and i have a hunch that "otyn" is to be pronounced as "odin", being its respective equivilant.
