decent head, nice and dark. no lacing..head disappears except a small ring around the edge of the glass. smell is of roasted malt, a little smoky, and somewhere between dark chocolate and coffee. i guess a little more towards coffee.

tastes like a decent porter..medium to heavily bodied, starts off with the roasted malt and coffee like flavor. theres a little bit of sweetness in there too..but not much at all. finishes with a lingering smoky/malty flavor. 7% ABV not too strong..but doesn't really taste stronger than other less alcoholic porters.

good..but next time i'm going to reach for a porter i've had and just want to enjoy..rather than try new porters...i will likely reach elsewhere. i will be trying their other beers though..i forget exactly what styles were available there..but porter seemed the most appealing at the time i guess.

edit...oh fuck yea...i forgot..the most recent beer store i've been going to is having a wine and beer tasting this weekend! i WILL be there. ha i've probably had a lot of the beers they'll have open..but i'm sure they'll have plenty i haven't had...and i'm more than happy to have beers i've had before again.

An article in a local paper today said we are getting two more styles from the microbrewery out of Alberta called Big Rock...I've had the grasshopper ale, not the "traditional ale"..cool to get these at the NSLC, however they are sold in private stores and don't look very promising.

i love finding new beer at stores here... going up to this store that just opened last weekend after work or on friday..its a brewing supply/keg/craft beer store. i hope they'll have a different selection than other stores..and the prices aren't too bad either i hope.

As I've said before, we get Shipyard IPA from Maine, although it always seems there is a thick layer of dust on the six packs.

The Trailer Park Boys is mostly to blame for the micro popularity, by constantly advertising in the last two seasons and the movie. Which is great news of course, because it could have been Molson Canadian or some other canadian piss instead.


Again, it's all these inter-provincial laws that hinder the sale for a lot of what come come here. Same with the states. It obviously has to do with the size of the market and brewery as well. Although Sam Adams is virtually impossible to buy anywhere in Canada, other than select provinces selling Boston Lager.

I had a 20oz Propeller ESB at lunch today with my dad, whom had a Coors Light..haha. I gave him some of my beer, and he said "I like beer, but don't drink it often because it is full of calories."


I mowed my mom's front and back lawn which almost took me 2 hours, went home, had a 3 and a half hour nap..haha, so I didn't even bother drinking tonight. However, I was talking to my friend that bought a sixer of Mill Street Pale ale and he said it was delicious. The cashier apparently said it was selling like crazy since it was released the other day.

went to that beer tasting...got there at 5 when it ended at 6. from what i could tell..the only beers they had were sam adams. those were all gone though and i wound up having a small cup of mikes hard lemonade. normally i'd have passed all together, but the girl convinced me ha. so i wound up just buying some beers when i was there and went home.



checked out the new store down here..but it turns out they are more of a brewing supply store than a beer store. they have some beer, but not much..and only a few things i haven't seen at other stores. all of which i picked up while i was there. two rogue bombers: smoke ale and half-e-weizen, and a 6 pack of red hook long hammer ipa.

didn't really like the smoke ale. it has a smoky flavor..but also something else too it that i can't really remember well enough to describe. i had it a few days ago and remember taking big gulps to get it over with. ironically, it has a much better rating than the long hammer ipa, but i'd take one of those ipas over the smoke ale any day of the week.

the half e weizen was pretty tasty. a decent witbier. easily worth a try if you see some on sale and like that style of beer. i'd drink it again..but not sure how long it will be before i buy more of it.

the long hammer ipa was good..not outstanding or anything. very hoppy, leaves your mouth kinda parched. not too much malt flavor at all. smells like hops..tastes like them too. its been a while since i've had red hooks regular ipa..maybe i'll pick up a bottle to compare. i think their regular ipa is a little more balanced.

can't say i've ever smelled a beer like this before. smells hoppy and a little alcoholic. also some sweet pine smell to it...

the taste is also quite different from anything else i've had before. strong flavor...i'm assuming mostly hops hah. feels pretty carbonated..that or the alcohol has a bite to it. not sure how strong this stuff is because my internet is down, but i'm fairly sure it is pretty strong stuff. it also could just be that this stuff is quite bitter from the massive amount of hops used. to be perfectly honest, i'd rather have a 90min..but i would really like to find out what this stuff tastes like after it has aged. on the side of the bottle it says "what you have here is the holy grail for hopheads. this beer is continually hopped over a 120-minute boil and then dry-hopped every day for a month. enjoy now or age for a DECADE or so." beers lose a lot of the hop flavor with aging..but i think there is more than enough here to not worry about losing it all. it's a good and tasty beer..just nothing like a session beer. even if it wasn't so expensive, i still wouldn't sit down and drink this stuff all night.

its pretty cool..has food pairings, brief overview of the style, and some examples of beers. it was made by sam adams, so that explains their beer being all over the examples ha. they didn't even put belgian/belgian style ales on there! i could see them lumping them all together (dubbel, tripel, etc.) but i thought it was pretty fucked that they left them out completely.

they just started carrying this stuff at the store here recently...though they didn't put the price up right away so i held off. some of their beers are pretty expensive, so i wasn't sure. anyway, they finally got around to putting up the price and it wasn't so bad..$3.49 i think.

smells malty and sweet. kinda having trouble smelling anything right now though.. and i can smell the food i just heated up.

taste is malty but also with some dark fruit/sweetness, a slight hint of vanilla could also be part of the sweetness. can't say for sure that i can taste the maple they mention...but if i can, it's in the middle when the sweetness seems to peak. finishes with a lingering smokiness. for 11% ABV, i would say this is pretty smooth..a slight bit of alcohol warmth at the end.

i'm kind of hit and miss with these dfh beers. i like their ipas and the world wide stout was good..but i wasn't into the raison d' etre, midas touch, i'm not too crazy about this one either. i don't mind the dark/sweet taste up front..but i'm not liking the way it finishes up. the finish makes me think of rogue smoke ale, which i wasn't too pumped about either. only this is a little less up front than with the smoke ale. i guess the smoky flavor is the oak.

not bad, but not my style. i've had beers that were aged in oak barrels and have enjoyed them..but (not sure if this was aged, or if oak was just used somewhere along the lines) it doesn't seem to go over well with me here. i'd try one on tap, but as of right now, i am not planning on picking up any more of this stuff. worth a try though.

I drank two sixers of Mill Street Tankhouse Ale(pale ale) last night and it was really good. I'll definitely pick it up again. I took some pictures but won't have them until a day or few from now. One of the best looking/tasting heads I've ever had in a beer..it was very frothy. Vibrant spiderweb lacing, good hop bite to it. Also had a bomber of Propeller Porter to finish. Not a bad night at all.

thanks moe...i hadn't been here in a few days..but i had plenty of beer over that period of time hah. that mackeson triple stout is pretty good. been a while since i've had it though.

bob - that's what i'm shooting for..being able to describe them as best i can. people will often taste different flavors or at least interpret them differently..but it gives a good idea of what to expect.

the mackeson was a little too sweet for my liking....i dont know. I still have a few left to base my decision on.
