i'll probably wait at least till tomorrow if not the next day. can't decide if i'll pop that open first..or the delirium nocturnum.
heres one of the beers i got today, and then some more random ones i haven't uploaded.
downtown brown (brown ale) from lost coast brewing co.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1602.jpg
not much head, but i did pour it kinda slow. dissipates fairly quickly...no lacing. smells first of faint alcohol then more malty, even a little bit of chocolate. smells nice..the alcohol isn't too strong in the smell at all, not even noticeable until you stick your nose into the glass. color is dark brown/amber..not black like the picture..fucking flash. taste is good, medium to light body, similar taste as smell...hint of alcohol (this stuff isn't very strong i don't think as far as ABV goes), feels kinda carbonated in my mouth, lightly roasted malts dominate the flavor..not really tasting the chocolate i smelled..just a tiny bit in the aftertaste. good stuff...i tried their indica pale ale before which was a good ipa, so i am now working through their other beers.
abbay de abdij van leffe
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1412.jpg
one of the easiest drinking belgians i've had. not insanely complex, but still good. not too heavy either. its been a while since i had it, so my memory is not too hazy...i guess i should get on the ball and try to review or at least take some sort of note on each beer as i go. i sort of just remember impressions with all these single beers then go back later and have what i remembered liking again.
konings hoeven dubbel
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1434.jpg
this isn't my favorite belgian brewing co by far..but they are pretty good, so i am giving their line up a shot. worth a try especially if you are just trying to branch out and try whatever you can in that style of beer. i guess i can always just say how much i liked the beers...out of a 10 i'd say i'd give this a 6 or 7.
i guess thats it for now..i'm hungry!

yea i recognized it from the picture of your beer collection that you posted before so i grabbed a bottle. i thought it was pretty good too.
mas cerveza!
drinking this now: coopers brewery dark ale (from down under)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1604.jpg
a bit disappointed with this one after trying their extra stout(i'll post that one in next post since i'm tired of typing this shit, and i just added this one after typing all the next ones since i'm drinking it now.) can taste a similarity in the malts..but thats about where it ends for me. tiny head that went away quickly. dark brown and sorta hazy. ha just noticed this is bottle conditioned. at least it also says it can swirled around and poured in or left at the bottom of the bottle. i just gave it a good swirl to mix it up i guess...no lacing even then. smell is a not so great malty smell. taste is mainly malty, with a malty aftertaste ha. i might try another bottle of this without pouring in the sediment before i condemn this beer to never be had again.
gouden carolus - carolus d'or
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1435.jpg
a belgian strong dark ale. a decent one at that, but honestly i'm not the biggest fan of the beers from this company. complex..malty and fruity (like many belgians i guess ha) but this just isn't for me i guess. they have one other beer there i haven't tried, i'll try it, but i'm not expecting it to make it as one of my favorites
woodchuck pear cider
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1441.jpg
i like cider, and i've liked everything from woodchuck, and this is no different. though this may be my least favorite. possibly because i'm not a big fan of pears. looks like light champagne or something...tons of bubbles on the glass walls..not so much of a head though. good, just not great. the rest of them are superb ciders. if you like ciders and haven't had any from these people, you are missing out.
old speckled hen
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1449.jpg
some english pale ale. pretty good...a bit let down after hearing someone in know shower this one with praise..i guess thats just where our tastes differ. not bad by any means, just not my favorite or even close. a balanced malty flavor that i find somewhat typical of english ales. i'd like to try some on tap..same with that london pride from fuller's. i think i'd go with the fuller's over this though.
great divide ridge line rich amber ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1566.jpg
amber ales are hit or miss for me...some seem pretty dull, others have a really nice, easy drinking/session beer quality about them. this i would consider part of the latter. great divide makes some kick ass beers and i don't hesitate to try any of them except the one that has raspberries in it. i'll get around to that one too though..once i've exhausted most of everything else i want to try first. a solid amber ale that is easily worth a try, especially if you are big on amber ales.
red hook blonde ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1577.jpg
i feel the same way about blond(e) ales too. some are really good, others are very boring. i tend to shy away from these, at least before trying other beers by the same company. red hook makes some good beers though..i particularly like their ipa. i recommend trying all of the red hook beers. their winter ale, i think its called winter hook, was pretty damn good i must say.
st. bernardus prior 8 (dubbel)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1578.jpg
this is my least favorite beer from this brewer. normally i really like their beers..but this one just had a different flavor too it that doesn't seem consistent with their other offerings. maybe i got a bad one somehow, or the yeast was all mixed in, but i just didn't enjoy this one really. i won't say don't try it, because their other beers rule, and everyone has different tastes..but if i try this one again, it will just be to get rid of any doubt that i don't like this beer.
sierra nevada ipa!
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1580.jpg
can't believe i've never seen this at any of the stores around here! i can buy sn pale ale at pretty much any grocery store here, even some gas stations! why no ipa!? anyway...i like my ipas pretty hoppy, and expected this to be too since the regular pale ale is fairly hoppy. i was wrong, but not in a bad way. this is actually pretty well balanced between hops and malts. the malts seemed a bit more upfront which kinda fades into a lighty hop bitterness. mmm. not my favorite ipa for sure..but another solid beer from sn.

I drank last night..until 8am with some friends at my buddies and then my place and then outside while people were driving to work..at late in the "evening" I crack the Corsendonk brown ale and split it up with two friends. It tastes good from what I remember..except a few minutes later I puked some of it up..lol, no solid or other types of beer, just spit up some of that beer. lol.
Godamn.

yea, theres been a couple i've tried. ahh you bastard! should've had it first so you weren't wasted and would drink it slower. you didn't pour all the yeast into the beer did you? thats why i drink some good beer..then switch over to shit beer to get wasted. try any of the other ones?
actually as of 2 pm or so it has departed and is on its way slowly down i95. scheduled to arrive thursday! can't wait to get that shit.
edit...fuck yea! the package is out for delivery from a local ups warehouse. i should have it at some point later today. they always come by at random times, so i could have it before i get out of work, and i could get it an hour or two after work. either way i'm pretty psyched.

I did pour the yeast out...I think. haha. No, I didn't try any of the others..next time I won't even do something that stupid. lol. I think it's because I ran out of beer.
Awesome news about the package, I hope you enjoy them!

i've never tried it with the yeast, so i can't say much for that. i can't buy anymore of the brown ale..they haven't gotten anymore since they ran out.
the other two aren't bottle conditioned so you can pour them however.
i'm sure i will enjoy them! i've heard st. ambroise was pretty damn good from this person on that hot pepper forum that is all about some beers. he was actually going to trade me a bottle or two if he was able to get ahold of some, but i never heard back about it and he hasn't been on the boards there very often lately. i'm gonna have to let my roommates try the propeller though..we're all about the tpb!
thanks for doing the trade.

graf, when you buy beer do you take individual bottles out of six/four packs? i mean i know the big bottles of beers are for sale individually, but i rarely see small individual bottles. thats why normally i buy a six pack and thats why idont get to try as many...sometimes ill put three and three or two and two in the six pack but i hate to be a pain in the ass

at the grocery stores i have to buy packs..but at the older beer store i go to, they have a selection of individual bottles you can choose from. also they have a section of 4 and 6 pakcs that people either stole a bottle from, or they opened one to sample it etc. and you can grab individual ones from there. the newest store i've been going to has a whole wall of single beers. they have these empty 6 packs you have to unfold that have their logo on it..you can just pick and choose and they ring them up individually. i've thought about taking a picture of their wall of beer..but they'd probably think i was fucking weird for bringing my camera in there. (edit...the singles range anywhere from a dollar to maybe even 8 depending on what it is..i'm not sure what the most expensive single 12 oz bottle is.) they have over 200 kinds of beer there and they say every one of them is available in singles..though i've noticed a few that aren't.
its not the most economical way to buy them..but this store has great prices so its not really that bad. its also a great way to try lots of new shit. the only other downside is that after drinking a 6 pack of a single kind of beer...i have a pretty good idea of what the beer tastes like and can recall what it's like. with trying these singles a lot, i can usually just remember if i liked it or not and sometimes some of the flavors that make it more distinct.
usually, i'll try a bunch of singles, then down the road i'll remember shit i liked and pick up a 6 pack or something (especially if i plan on sharing the beers with others)

this is worth the double post:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1606.jpg
awwww sheeeeit! got bass' package today and all the beers are fine. a tiny bit warm cause they were on my doorstep for a bit..but the box was out of direct sunlight and they weren't really any warmer than they'd be sitting on a non refrigerated shelf. i'll probably let them sit in the fridge for a day and relax after their long journey. don't want them to explode and have half the beer pour out of the bottle as foam all over the floor.
thanks man! i like the coasters too, haven't read the propeller pamphlet yet. my roommate and i got a good laugh out of the nslc bag since we always hear about the lc while watching trailer park boys. didn't figure out what it was until you told me about it on here.

yea saw those...i just never have heard them talk about premier in tpb
the brown bags we get usually don't have anything printed on them. of course, there aren't too many govt. owned booze stores..the only ones i can think of are on base. ha just think...you could've been the one to design the drinking and driving kills artwork for the nslc. i'll have to visit their website.
as much as i want to crack those fuckers open...i'm drinking the allagash dubbel reserve.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1608.jpg
from the bottle: "allagash dubbel reserve is a dark amber belgian-style ale. brewed in the centuries-old tradition of the monasteries of belgium. we craft it with seven malts, a special sugar, and our own belgian yeast. following a lengthy period of conditioning and a fresh dose of yeast, we fill each hand numbered bottle, and allow the ale to naturally carbonate in our cellars. when stored at cellar temperatures, this unique ale will continue to mature in the bottle and improve with age."
mine is from batch # 60. 7% ABV nice creamy light tan head, smells of delicious yeast and malt. also has some hints of sweetness, fruit maybe. the taste is a little different...theres a bitterness to it that isn't in the smell. to be perfectly honest, my first thought was "doh! i wish it tasted more like it smells." not to say its bad..just a tad let down after finding out how good it smells. i guess i can kinda smell the bitterness more now..could all be in my head. can't decide if i can taste the alcohol, or if its spices or even carbonation. could be carbonation, there are plenty of little bubbles still going up to the top as with many beers of this and similar styles. the sweetness seems more bitter in the taste. have warmed up to the taste a little since i started drinking it..still have to say my hopes were set a little higher after having the allagash white. head is still sticking around..some lacing too. fairly complex taste overall..i'm sure i'm missing something in there.

It's actually pretty funny you said that..when I was in grade 7, students from my class actually drew those pictures and they used the a couple of the winners designs. haha, not sure if it was just my jr. high that did it though.
I took some pic's of the TPB Sunnyvale set this evening while driving by, should have them within a few days because I can't use my computer to upload them..fucked up usb's or something.

haha cool. i tried finding it on google earth before to no avail.
ahhh some really good shit now...miller high life light.
wasn't sure how any of the beer i have (other than this crap) would go with the food i made...so i just played it safe. also have been trying to drink more light beer so as to not always be drinking heavy ass beers. i can't help but think i drink away most if not all of the exercise i do when i go running and come home and drink a bunch of ales.

we each only sent three. we weren't sure how it would turn out since technically we weren't supposed to do that. rather than have them possibly confiscate a whole 6 pack or more, we aimed lower so if it didn't make it through, it wouldn't be much of a loss.
i think quebec is a bit of a drive from halifax.

Yes it is..It's about a 14-16 hour drive I do believe.
I live in Nova Scotia, to the east.

I want to go to Montreal, drink beer and check out a gig or two as well..nothing planned yet though. I need to con one of my friends into driving.

Yeah that would be great, hopefully something like that would happen. Gayfrost on the other hand shares zero music tastes(aside from some thrash) from me..although a few of my friends would be down for a Montreal trip. I have some good buddies of mine that tracked up for Iron Maiden and with COB and Nightwish.
Quebec has LOT's of great beer to check out, and even boasts some very good brew pubs. Dying Fetus are coming here in June if you want to come..lol.

trans, hah yea that'd be cool. we could have the most brutal metal beer tasting eevvveeerrr! (they really need to bring back metalocalypse damnit)
bass, on that pepper forum the guy thats all into beers came back and posted a couple reviews..thought you'd like to see this one since you asked if i could get any around here. its that three floyds dark lord imperial stout. doesn't look like i'll be able to get any unless i can find someone willing to make a trade with me...even then i'd probably only be able to get one bottle.

i've never had any of that witkap pater..can't say i've even seen it on sale here.
st. ambroise oatmeal stout

wasn't expecting the twist off cap. i've had a couple stouts that have that though. at first i thought this was the first one. i poured it a little slow i guess..but there was a small head that went away after a minute or so. smells like coffee, roasted malt, maybe even a hint of chocolate. could be a little oatmeal in there too hah...it does have that oatmeal stout smell..sounds fairly obvious though. taste is largely a smoky/roasted malt flavor, a bit of coffee too. tastes pretty much just like it smells, which is fine with me cause it smells great! medium to heavy body. its a shame they don't sell this stuff down here. lacing is pretty minimal, tiny layer of head seems to be in for the long haul. has a little bitterness too it as well..maybe a little hoppyness in there to balance out the rest of it, but not too much of a hop flavor really. good shit! thanks bass! can't wait to try the rest of my illegal canadian beer. probably gonna start slowing down on this and let it warm up a tad to see if it gets any better with a warmer temp. also don't want to drink it too fast.
probably just have one per day so i don't hate myself for drinking them all in one day. it will be a while before i get to have any of them again which sucks.

Awesome that you tried it! They are great to pour at a medium speed, as they leave a very nice looking head..especially on tap, the head doesn't go away at all.
I had the Dogfish head 90min. IPA. It was fucking awesome. My first double or imperial IPA. Great texture, great colour and awesome flavour. It was very well balanced. Every sip/gulp I took had a great silky grapefruit flavour, and 3/4 of the initial taste the alcohol kicked in, but finished again with the sweet hop oil. It really sucks I don't have anymore. lol.
I took pictures of it which should be up tomorrow. Maybe wait until I can get more selection though.
I may drink the Yeti this weekend..but we'll definitely have to do a trade again.

fuck yea! i'd love to try this shit on tap. they only micro brewed beer i've had on tap was at the tampa bay brewing co and this local place called brewzis or something i forgot how its spelled. other than that its all macro shit on tap around here. sucks big time...
glad you liked the dfh. its pretty tasty stuff...i had to warm up to it myself a little. its a unique ipa for sure. i like mine pretty hoppy though.
i think tomorrow i'm gonna open up the propeller imperial stout! can't fucking wait either. but i will.
hell yea, a future trade is a good idea. can you get all the st. ambroise? i saw they make an ipa. i'd like to check out any other propellers too even though i've yet to try any of them...i'm sure they are good though. if you and the trailer park boys like them then i trust they are good.
as for what you want, just let me know..i can link you to my beer picture folder and you can just pick whatever...some i can't get anymore, but most i can.

Awesome..hmm, ok I really need this job soon though..lol, it would help me a lot more. I wonder if maybe shipping more beer would be a good idea?
I have access to a few more St. Ambroise/McAuslan brands, although many don't even look like they're worth trying..I've only ever tried their american pale ale other than the OS.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/194/2703
And well, a lot of sub-par locals that may not be worth shipping. I drank Propeller Pale Ale tonight though and it tasted a league better then when I've had it in the past.
Premier is getting a new stock in, actually...they should haven't got it this week probably. I'd like to check the place out soon though and see if they have some beer worth trading.

ahh whoops...i guess i misread pale ale as ipa. cream ale looks alright..the vintage ale looks like it was discontinued...not too into barley wine ales.
cool, let me know if premier gets some more shit in. sounds promising i guess. would be cool for all the beer fiends up there.
yea, i would say we move up to 6 next round. seems like it went smoothly, though i'm not sure how they do it..randomly or what. at least a 6 though i'd say. i wonder how much more the shipping will be..there are probably weight brackets..maybe i'll try to look into that before hand.

propeller revolution russian imperial stout
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1615.jpg
chose the snifter to make sure i didn't drink it too fast..also get a better smell. pours out pretty dark..almost looks like liquefied tar. one finger head that dissipates to a ring of foam. no lacing on my glass. also some small bubbles rising up to the surface. the smell is nice...very coffee like with some unsweetened chocolate and a very very faint hint of alcohol. tastes very roasted, that is the first thing that comes to mind, then it seems to have a bitter sweet aftertaste that lingers. not quite as heavily bodied as i'd have thought.
good stuff bass, but i think i liked the st. ambroise a little more. tough to say...i think i'll need more of each to figure it out.

Good, I'm glad you tried it...I don't know what is up with the bottled version of the Propeller RIS though, every bottled I've had had been inferior to a fresh growler. The growler version gave off more of a milk-chocolate taste, and I found the bottled version has somewhat of a taste of iron to it.
I can't wait to try that Yeti though, I was talking to my friend and he said he would be down for it sometime next week. I told him I drank the 90min ipa and he was a little upset, especially when I said how good it was..

picked up two beers today. st bernardus prior 8 (they had a pack of smaller bottles so i pounced) and youngs oatmeal stout (MY FIRST OATMEAL!)
here goes my first real beer review...
smell-alcohol, and a general "Beer" smell (HAHAH i suck at this!!)
appe- the darkest beer ive ver had. NO visible carbonation, and you cant see through the glass. also. 10/10 on the bottle. fuck, that is one jolly looking monk. id probably be as enthused bout jesus as he is, ifi sat around drinking this all day long.
taste - ok this is where im really bad. i notice a definite LACK of hops. and what i presume is malt. holding it in your mouth reveals a chocolate taste, similar to the cream stout i had but not as "soy sauce" y.
leaves some lacingand has a thin head taht seems to be maintaining.
also, i drank this from my duvel glass (ill post a pic in a minute)

just got home from my parents house. we went out to eat to celebrate mother's day and my birthday (early since they are going out of state the weekend of my bday) as luck would have it, there was a total wine and more right next to the restaurant we went to. thats the name of the store i've been going to lately with over 200 kinds of beer. so we all walked over to check it out. they were pretty impressed. haha so was this lady that was in there..she was ranting and raving how awesome the place was. i told my brother thats the same shit i was saying to myself the first time i went to one.
they had a number of beers i can't buy at the one over by me, so i took advantage and picked up a few. bought a bottle of avery out of bounds stout http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30/1830 , samuel smiths imperial stout http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/113/782 , bells kalamazoo stout http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/1117 , red hook sunrye ale http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/153/28711 , yeungling porter http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/182/921 , and a bottle of ybor gold amber lager http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/161/18290 . the ybor gold is a florida brewing company. i let my dad take that one though..he was the one that pointed it out, so i figured he might like to try it.
i drank the avery stout while i was there. it was really good. it looked awesome. dark as hell with a two finger somewhat creamy head. another good beer from avery. wouldn't put this in the top 10 stouts, but its a good tasting beer that i'm glad i bought.

yea, that oatmeal stout and double chocolate stout are pretty good. i saw another beer they make this weekend...it's a barleywine style ale...but i'm not into those really, so i passed.
drinking the yuengling porter right now.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1619.jpg
dark, small head that went away quickly. no lacing. not a very strong smell. what i can smell is coffee/roasted malts. taste is similar with a bit of creaminess to it. ok, but won't be trying this one again i'd say. well i would have to drive over to tampa to try it...this stuff doesn't sell anywhere around here that i know of. i am not too disappointed though..while yuengling is great compared to most american macro breweries...it pales in comparison to most micro breweries. i mostly gave it a go because i like porters, and also yuengling was my main session beer for a while.
edit...ha bass...yea, i'm sure he wasn't too happy about the 90 min! i let one of my roommates try the st. ambroise and a sip of the ris. he thought they were both pretty good. i still haven't opened the ipa yet though...probably tomorrow. looking forward to that one as well.

had this one at lunch...
red hook sunrye summer ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1622.jpg
wasn't expecting to be blown away by this one by any means. red hook makes some decent beers, and in my quest to try just about every beer i can get my hands on, i felt i had to try it since i had never seen it before.
poured to a minimal head that disappeared rapidly, now there is just a tiny ring of foam around the edges of the glass. no lacing to be seen. even if you stir it up a bit, the bubbles just sink down the glass and rejoin the rest of the crew. smells fairly balanced as far as malts and hops go, i guess a tad more towards the hoppy bitter side. no other distinct smells of note. smells like an average ale. pretty light body, as to be expected from a summer ale. though not as light as most macro lagers. taste is alright, nothing special.. probably will be my last time having this beer..at least on my dime. taste has a mild hop bitterness with a tiny bit of malt flavor poking through.
overall, an easy drinking beer thats about as good as i expected. not bad if you are in a pinch for some beer to drink this summer, but i would try to find something else.

how'd you like the oatmeal stout?
had this tonight:
bell's kalamazoo stout
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1624.jpg
mmmmm very good stuff! i didn't notice on the bottle it said that it's "..brewed with brewers licorice" i'm not a big licorice fan, luckily it is more of a background flavor in this beer. this is my first beer from bell's brewing co. and i had heard good things about them. i was at my parents and happened to find some over on that coast so i quickly added this to the variety 6 pack i was building. glad i did too...the only disappointing thing is that i still can't get any here, so i'll have to go over there again to get more or try their other beers.
the smell is very nice. roasted malts, coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and a hint of licorice at the tail end.
the taste is much of the same, roasted malts and coffee being the dominant flavors. i don't really notice the licorice as much at all. which means to me, it's just the right amount. enough to add to the flavor, but not enough for me to refer to this as "the licorice stout." :} fairly heavily bodied, though surprisingly easy to drink. theres a somewhat bitter aftertaste too it. not a bad thing really, just makes me want to drink more. i'll have to slow down though...this is the only one i bought.
i don't know what the distribution of this beer is like, it's down here in florida though, so i'm sure its fairly widespread. it's from michigan though, so if you are up in that area, you can definitely find it.

i don't know if i had any dark beer until i was about 18 or so. even for a while after that i didn't get into drinking many dark beers or any craft beers. just stuck with malt liquor, liquor, and major domestic or imported beers.
never too late to start though what part of the us are you living in? most likely there is at least one store that carries some good shit.

trans - try some other oatmeal stouts if you can find some ...i didn't think i tasted the oats, but now having had a few os' i can tell the difference. yea, belgian ales are pretty much expensive wherever you go. at that store i buy the singles from, many american beers are between 1 and 2 bucks but the belgians are more around 3 to 4. some exceptions for each of course. ommegang is an american company that makes belgian style ales...they are fairly cheap for me here. at least compared to the ales imported from belgium..or even the belgian style ales from canada.
arsis - that sucks about the lack of people into metal there. what kind of stores do you have? if you have any of those fancy grocery stores (whole foods, fresh market, etc.) they usually have some pretty good shit compared to places like kash n karry, publix, safeway etc. gas stations usually suck but might have a couple good beers. if theres a military base and you have any way of getting in there or someone buying beer there, they could also have some pretty good shit. i was really surprised at the selection on an air force base near my parents house.

DAMN! That looks so delicious. Imperial Stouts might be my new favorite type of beer. Porters are a close second.

you try that mocha porter yet? i haven't seen any of those beers you posted links too. just was at some bar that supposedly has about 150 beers.. hat a few good ass beers...we got some sweet pint glasses from them too haha. they had some of that corsendonk but just hte pale ale which isn't nearlyh as good as the brown ale. had some hoegarrden on tap...sierra nevada pale ale on tap. got a flying dog pint glass...a sierra nevada one..and a tullamore dew (irish whiskey).....which leads me to one question... who the fuck drinks whiskey from apint glass? they had some pretty good shit..but my bartender was fairly clueless
i asked for some chimay..they only had red ( my least favorite) ...she gave me the bottle alone. i looked at it and asked for a glass. instead of a snifter or oversized wine glass (which they had plenty of) she gave me a pint glass!
all in all i had a great time and they have some pretty damn good beer compared to most places here..but if iwas the manager, i'd whip that place into shape as far as beer goes...fucking slackers.

hah yea...i just looked at the bottle then up at her thinking "is this bitch for real?"
we made up for it by liberating several nice glasses. we each got a flying dog pint glass http://i17.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/7b/e1/3c4e_1.JPG
a sierra nevada one
https://www.nattybohgear.com/catalog/images/sierra.jpg
i also got a tullamore dew irish whiskey pint glass...and my friend got a really nice stella artois glass like this http://www.paddlewheelerpub.com/ima...rtois-glass.gif
the whiskey pint glass also has the carolan's irish cream logo on it..so i put 2 and 2 together and realized it was for irish car bombs.
i've had a bunch of beers since i last posted in here...one particularly good one was called hennepin (belgian style ale) from ommegang brewery. its a saison ( http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/129 )..which i had only heard about but never tried anything of that style. well i'm damn glad i did! not only was this pretty cheap compared to belgian/belgian style ales...it was very good. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/141
we mad some black and tans with sierra nevada stout and pale ale...they were also pretty tasty. my friend insisted on making some "black velvets" which are have cider and half guinness (i guess you could use any stout or cider) you pour the cider first (slowly) then the guinness..also slowly. you'll be able to see the guinness floating on top of the cider. weird sounding..but it was pretty decent. i wouldn't have ever tried mixing the two myself.
oh and bass...i had the last of my canadian beers. the propeller ipa. haven't uploaded the picture yet, but it was fucking good! nice hoppy flavor...even somewhat of a citrus flavor to it. it was a sad moment taking the last sip. its a good example of how i like my ipas. hoppy>malty and an overall good flavor.

Aww, a bittersweet attempt. lol.
That's awesome that you enjoyed it! I was curious how you would rate it, seeing the great IPA's I'm sure you have had previous.
The yeti is STILL untouched...
I drank way too much yesterday..haha, starting drinking at 2pm until about 4-5am. Tried four Mexican beers I still had kicking around, and if you've never tasted corn adjunct in beer...lol, all of these beers I had were definitely brewed with it.
Ok, including the mexican beer, mainly I drank several high alcohol beers: I chugged a Duvel and an Orval, drank two more Belgians(kappital), downed one keiths, bomber of Propeller ESB, bomber Propeller Porter, 750ml of Chimay Blue, 330ml of Chimay Red and several vodka martinis..
It was fucking sloppy.

yea, it was pretty tasty. easy to drink too..could have drank those bombers all day. i'd say its one of the better ones i've had lately. i hope they expand their distribution to the usa. as long as it wasn't too expensive because of being an import, the ipa would be in contention for a session beer. which other propeller beers can you get there? i know the esb, and sometimes that ris.
hah the two bars we went to the other day had flying dog amber lager on tap. i tried one of those..was pretty good. wasn't my favorite in the bottle compared to the others but it was definitely better on tap. the first bar had a special on all domestic beers. any domestic on tap was a dollar a pint. the guy rattled off the ones that this would apply to but left out the flying dog. i said what about the flying dog? that is domestic. he said..yea..i guess you're right..umm alright. we're don't normally include that one.

lol yes...Imports at some bars here can be considered from another province as well.
Propeller also make a London Style Porter, Honey Wheat Ale and Pale Ale. There seasonal's have been a Pumpkin Ale, Christmas Ale and the RIS.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1878
There were talks about a Summer Seasonal, I'm fucking hoping they will put something out.

cool...i wasn't crazy about either of the pumpkin ales i've had so far. the other stuff sounds good though.
ha kinda funny that it's called london style porter and beer advocate has the style listed as an american porter.
speaking of london porter...i've got a corked bottle of meantime london porter in the fridge that i bought last week. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5062/25548 i would've drank it this weekend, but a friend was visiting so we mainly got wasted instead of my usually trying some beers then getting wasted. they have an ipa that i can get here too..but i haven't had that either.

Yeah, I didn't try the Pumpkin ale when they had it..if they have it this year I probably will, more or less to collect the bottle. But I guess I won't complain about a local micro seasonal regardless. I bought quite a bit of Christmas Ale when they had that out, it was pretty good. I can only compare it too Wychwood's Bah Humbug Winter Warmer though, which I found the Wychwood to be a lot better...although maybe it was a tad too sweet overall.
Yeah, I'm not quite sure it's labeled as a "American Porter", is there doesn't seem to be any crazy outspins on the style. haha.
LucidDreamer! Glad to see you back man!

my friend this weekend didn't care for his old rasputin. fucking bastard...poured out the last 1/3 of his pint glass! he's a big fan of guinness though..so i can see how it's a big jump. he did like a number of the other beers i made him try though. i really can't wait to try my older old rasputin ha. so far its been aging for half a year now...i think i'm going to wait till it's two years old then drink it. (what the fuck!? there is no drooling smiley?)
well i tried the meantime london porter...can't say i'm nearly as impressed as i had hoped i would be. it wasn't a bad beer, but i was expecting a darker, heavier bodied beer. i'll post the pic tomorrow since i'm just finishing up a seriously good beer (miller high life light) then going to sleep. i'll still try their ipa..but for the price and the fact that it was corked and bottle conditioned...i feel let down. was a dark amber color...not very spectacularly smelling...a bit of a lightly roasted malt smell..but not much. no chocolate or coffee smells. same with the taste...malty but not really like roasted malt. unless someone else buys a bottle...i don't think i'm going to have any more...and if someone offers some to me but there are other good beers available..i'd pass.

Fuck off, I'd love to try it that shit.
My dad got back from Manhattan and said he couldn't find any "weird looking"(Ommegang/Brooklyn) beers anywhere...just Bud/Coors.
I'm sure if I was there I could find some good shit lol...then again it's Manhattan.
Oh well, he got me a Killian's pint glass...because I really need a beer glass. lol.

that sucks...cool about the glass though. next time your dad is going somewhere..look around on the BA forum..there should be a thread about where to buy good beer in new york. i know there is a thread like that about florida.
had this at lunch today
lost coast great white
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1643.jpg
small head that disappeared. hazy golden color..the haze is because it's an unfiltered beer. the smell is somewhat faint..a light sweetness to a light wheat and yeast smell. have to really take a big sniff to get much of anything. taste is good...the sweetness really comes through in the taste. has a citrus flavor to it. the side of the bottle says this is because of "coriander and a secret blend of humboldt herbs" any lacing that appears sinks back to the surface level of the beer. the taste also, of course, has the typical wheat flavor. it's pretty well balanced though...i can barely taste the yeast, but the sweet citrus flavor and the wheat are fairly even..with no one flavor taking center stage. pretty light body. i could definitely drink a bunch of these while cooking on the grill in the afternoon.

Well I did look around, but most of the good beer places weren't anywhere where he was staying. He said he went to lots of different stores/booze stores..I'm sure he missed something decent. Oh well, I can't complain too much.

no we can't get it 24 hours a day. i can get it on sundays though. each state has different laws in regards to this. down here in florida, i can buy alcohol up until 2am on any day..and not until some time(i forget) in the morning on sundays that i'm usually not even out of bed by.
butte creek brewing co. organic porter
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1644.jpg
well up until i had some beer from butte creek..i hadn't had an organic beer i liked. first i tried their ipa which was pretty good. i'd rather drink plenty of other ipas..but it was the first organic beer i would buy again. so i tried the porter which i'm having now.
not black..but a very dark amber..no lacing, thing head that turns into a tiny ring around the edge of the glass. a somewhat bitter malty smell dominates the nose. pretty smooth drinking with this one. carbonation is at a good level..not very noticeable. taste is good...malty with a tiny bit of hop bitterness to balance the flavor out. as with their ipa, it isn't near my favorite for the style..but certainly isn't near the bottom either. i'd say it's more towards the 65-70 mark out of 100. i think my least favorite porters were from eastern europe.
this is probably my favorite organic beer i've had so far. overall...very drinkable..not too heavily bodied, decent flavor..good enough to make people that aren't familiar with porters enjoy it..but not crazy enough to scare away people that haven't really developed a taste for them.
edit...
acme california pale ale from north coast brewing co.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1646.jpg
hadn't really heard anything about this beer...just have been working through all the beers at this store i've been going to lately.
decent head at first..didn't last terribly long. a little lacing that doesn't stick around either. smell is lightly bittersweet a mix of malts and hops but not very potent. (perhaps my smelling is going..or else the last few beers i have had just weren't that strong smelling or don't contain anything really distinct smelling) taste is more of the same. nothing really stands out. mild sweetness at first that finishes with a subtle bitterness. pretty smooth and easy to drink though all around. not something that made me say "damn, i'll have to pick up more of this." probably won't as a matter of fact..unless the only other beers they haven't sold out of are ones i don't like.
north coast makes some pretty good beers though, and this is definitely worth a go..especially if you really like pale ales. i think i liked the acme IPA more.
edit again...
speaking of brooklyn brewing co. just found this: http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/1004555#1013876 so i'll be trying some one of these days i guess.

Aww, lucky..post the pic of Propeller IPA.
Sweet news about the Brooklyn Brewery. It's pretty badass that Garrett Oliver(owner/brewmaster of Brooklyn) posts on BA. I know they sell some Brooklyn beers in Ontario and I think a couple other provinces, hopefully they'll come here at some point.

ask him in that thread heh yea that is pretty cool...i didn't know that until i randomly saw the thread about brooklyn beers coming to florida.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1626.jpg
propeller ipa. i should've sat down and wrote a review while i was drinking it. i think i was watching some tpb. haha. was good shit though...even if you don't have much variety in beers up there...i'd take that and the st. ambroise again for a future trade haha. though i'd like to try some unibroue if there are some up there i can't get here..the ris was good, but i guess thats a limited brew?
ahh other cool news via BA...theres going to be a south florida BA gathering...possibly june 2nd..not too far from my house at all either. i'm planning on going...just have to make sure to not drink too much.

Aww, lucky about the beer meet. There is a beer festival about 3 hours away in Moncton but I have no way there.
It definitely seems you can get more Unibroue than me..I can only get TP, LFDM and Raftman now...at $18.95 a 6 pack! I might ask French Bob if he wants to do a trade sometime..or even ship me beer that I can pay for..he said sixers of those beers are $9 in Quebec.
Yes, the RIS is limited but will probably be around at Propeller and private stores for quite a bit longer. This place called Vinart has it's own Propeller-only cold room with a whole shitload of them there.
My next objective is to obtain this $30 Belgian mixed sixer before it is gone.

i've never seen the raftman on sale anywhere here. ha i've never seen any 6 packs of any of their beers either..just 4 packs, singles, or 750ml corked bottles. $9 canadian is pretty good though for a 6. a 4 pack here costs about the same.
what all comes in that belgian mix pack?

hmm that is weird that the raftman is so expensive..i'm sure it's good, but it doesn't seem like it's any more special than any other beer they make. hell, i'd say the tp or lfdm should be more expensive than that with the multiple fermentations.. strange.
that 6 pack looks cool, you are right though..that is a hefty bill. i've had the first two, but haven't seen those others before. i like that gulden draak, the piraat was pretty good..but i think because of all the hype i've read about it, i was slightly disappointed. maybe aged ones are the shit, or else i got a bad one somehow? wasn't so much that it was bad..just that i've heard/read it was one of the best beers in the world.

ommegang abbey ale. american belgian-style strong dark ale.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1650.jpg

another delicious beer from ommegang. i hadn't tried any of there beers until recently, but i'm sure glad i did. one thing that is really nice is that it's some of the cheapest (price-wise) belgian style ale that i know of. certainly doesn't taste cheap though. nice pillowy head that simmers down to a fairly small head that remains throughout the rest of the beer. a nice deep amber color..too dark for me to tell how hazy it looks.
smells sweet..fruity but in a dark sort of way, yeasty, tad bit of malt in the background. i can barely notice a tinge of alcohol smell too it..though it is 8.5% ABV. hardly noticeable at all unless you are smelling for it i guess.
taste pretty much follows through where the smell leaves off. sweet and fruity with a tiny bit of bitterness. the 8.5% is lost in the flavor which is fine by me. finishes with a light but lingering sweet bitterness and some yeast.
very good stuff. i'm going to have to have a taste off with this vs. their hennepin....and for the hell of it..i might as well get their other beer too.

the only one i haven't had is the one bass posted earlier..the witte. i'll be trying it soon for sure though.
being my bday and all..gonna splurge a little and buy a beer i've been looking at for a while and was recently told to try..dogfish head world wide stout. its an imperial stout that i haven't tried yet because it's something like $12 a bottle.

spent about $70 on beer today! of course a few of those bottles are over 10 dollars each (dogfish head world wide stout, dfh red & white, and the allagash four which is a limited production quadrupel.)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/IMG_1689s.jpg
i've never had any of those expensive beers, dragon stout, lost coast alley cat amber ale, or the ommegang witte. the rest i've had and really enjoy..so it should be a good night. also got a dark cigar someone recommended i smoke while drinking that dfh wws. at 18% i'll be sipping that as slow as i smoke the cigar hah.

The Dragon Stout is very nice indeed, i said to my mate while i was drinking it that it would suit a cigar (that's if it's the same one i had... brewed by Red Stripe )

i have never tried the dragon stout before...kinda skipped over it since i wasn't sure where it was from. i originally thought it was from asia..and so far i have yet to have an asian beer that was very good.
i'm gonna drink the world wide stout with one of the cigars..the other is for sunday when we go to our boss' house for a bbq.

Graf, finally had that Yeti Impy Stout last night. It was very good, it being a year old probably brought out that dark fruit flavour that was present. It yielding no head was a little shocking. Had it while watching Senators lose to Anaheim....
Although, this is why Anaheim is such a good team.
"The Anaheim Ducks roster is 84 per cent Canadian."
http://www.canada.com/topics/sports...c0a9962&k=88959
Also had a La Fin Du Monde, a Propeller ESB, and a few double shots of Wiser's Deluxe Canadian whisky. Good shit. It had a very nice smoked apple taste.

cool. glad you liked it. i had some over this last weekend myself. just checked my photobucket to see if it had any head when i drank it..but i guess i first tried it before i started taking pictures of the beers i try. sounds like a decent excuse to buy some more.
maybe next time around i can trade you a bomber of the oak aged yeti.
are the cup games over? i haven't been following it at all.

I'd definitely be down for that trade. No, it's the final series now. Game 1 was last night, Game 2 will be tomorrow.

Ommegang Witte
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1755.jpg
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/16506
gotta say right off the bat...this is my least favorite of the ommegang beers i've had so far. i don't not like the beer..but after really really liking their other beers, i was expecting more of the same kick ass beer.
pours fine, nice head that shrinks but remains throughout. light lacing. smell is dominated by wheat. not too much else to the smell really. maybe a little sweetness (i guess could be a somewhat citrus smell) towards the end. for being made with orange peel and coriander, you really can't tell by smelling this stuff. maybe a hint of it..then again, i've never smelled coriander on its own before.
taste is also dominated by wheat. thats fine...but i prefer to have a mixture of flavors in my wheat beers. a strong wheat flavor is also fine with me..just like to have a little more to it. pretty light as far as the body goes...which makes for a pretty easy to drink beer. taste finishes with a light somewhat lingering sweetness that seems to wind up tasting like wheat again.
if you really like witbier, or want to try all the ommegang, or even just want to try every beer you can get your hands on..definitely try it. for me..i think this could be the last witte i drink. again, it's not a bad beer really, just not my preference for this style.
of course, i can't wait to get my hands on some more of their other beers! i still love me some ommegang.

Bastard. How many different beers do you figure you have tried? Several hundred no doubt.
I was in Propeller the other day..STILL HAVE RIS FOR GROWLER REFILL AND MANY BOTTLES! I'm going back tomorrow and getting crunk.
"Last batch" was supposed to be in early April If I can remember. It definitely must be very popular.

well, my photobucket has a little over 200 pictures in it..though a couple are random pictures, and one is of a gulden draak bottle that cracked open when i was driving home. there are several pics i haven't uploaded, and also many i drank before i started taking the pictures..so i'd say almost 300?
thats cool about the ris. i wish there was a place around here that brewed some damn good beer and i could just go and get a refill hah.
drinking some samuel smiths oatmeal stout right now...this stuff is delicious.

Yeah, the refills are fucking sweet. 8 bucks for almost a 6 pack of fresh beer..that is unheard of around here. The RIS is $10.75 and damn well worth it. Most macro beer prices went up...$19.99 for a 12 pack of Keith's, $37.99 for a 24 pack!
Ohhhh, SSOS...so fucking good.
