I'm currently drinking a lefthand Imerpial Stout. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/418/2654

This beer is 10.4% abv (wow!) and a whopping 1 pint 6 oz. It cost over 5 bucks, but is damn well worth it. I'll most definatley be picking up another couple in the near future.

if you go onto beeradvocate.com and into the forums..theres probably some talk of good beer stores in your area. thats how i found out about the one that still sells the oak aged yeti. my usual store ran out and hasn't gotten any more since. even the regular yeti imperial stout is damn good. they are both in the top 100 beers if i'm not mistaken. i know at least one of them is.

alright, thanks. i hope to drink some of that, not long after im able to start buying.

moe - thats some good stout! if you can find any of this http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/418/36157 give it a try. its the same brewing company..but this is a limited production release, and its been aged in oak barrels for some length of time (no idea how long). theres also left hand mix 12 packs. i love getting the mix packs from brewers..its a great way to try all or at least some of their beers..and also you get to try some that you might not have tried otherwise (sometimes thats a good thing..sometimes its a bad thing.)

yea, i've tried a buncha different left hand beers. my friend works at a beer supply store and hooks me up with mix packs of ANY BEER I WANT IN THE STORE for 8 bucks for the first 6 pack and 5 bucks (under the table) for the second. It's great. I've tried the milk stout and also really enjoyed that one.

Damn, that limited time one looks really fuckin delicious. I'ma have to try and find that before time runs out.

P.S. - one bottle of that imperial stout (granted it was big) got me pretty tipsy. this beer is really delicious.

p.p.s. - graf, imperial stouts have now taken the place of porters as my fav. brew. what are some nice ones to try first?

hah hell yea! i wish i was in with the beer store guys.. they know me only because i go in there a lot so they probably wouldn't hook me up like that.

yea, imperial stouts are fucking great. my understanding is that they are basically a double stout..thus the higher abv and more/stronger flavor. the first ones that come to my mind are old rasputin from north coast brewing co., yeti is from great divide (and their oak aged version that is a bit more expensive), rogue is, avery "the czar", stoudt's fat god (oatmeal imperial stout), and thats about it that i can think of. i know there are others but those are the ones i've had that i can think of. theres some otheres at the store i hadn't tried yet because they were kind of expensive..not too bad, but around $6 for a single 12 oz bottle!

edit..since you are talking about imperial stouts and like porters, have you ever tried flying dog gonzo imperial porter? hah i almost listed that one above and when i typed stout..i said to myself "what a minute..thats a porter."

de nada

while i would say ale>lager ...there are some good lagers! the first that springs to mind is leinenkugel's creamy dark lager. not as good as many dark ales..but way better than a lot of lager i've ever had.

that beer advocate site is hosting some beer fest at some point and the first night is called "night of the lagers" in which they aim to dispell the myth that all lagers are watery and laking in flavor.

I've yet to have a really mind-blowing lager, but I'm definitely positive they do exist...outside of mass-producing beer empire's anyways.

Tried this tonight. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/34717

It was really delicious, refreshing and was on sale. I'll be picking up similar beers in the near future.

cool..i've never seen that stuff before. there are some damn good (american) belgian style ales though. even the french canadians are pretty good at it too.

last night i drank the last of my beer..tonight i plan on not drinking a drop of alcohol. ha i've said that before and bitched out..but i'll give it a go. also sucks cause the last bag o' green i am intending on buying is dangerously low.

tomorrow is a different story though. i'll be heading down to the beer store and getting a bunch of beers.

edit. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6592693.stm scientists in the us are trying to determine why the head of a lager quickly disappears while the head on something like guinness sticks around much longer.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/2169957.stm
noticed they had some "see also" that had another beer story. kirin brewing co. (kirin ichiban/light etc.) had someone translate some egyptian hyroglyphics that contained a recipe for an ale! unfortunately its not for sale to the public. (also contains no hops it says) they mention something similar that happened some years back..and a bottle of "tutankhamen ale" sold for $78 ouch!

Tonight, I'm going to a kegger for a buddy who is turning 20. Tomorrow, a good friend is turning 21 and I'm going to get trashed walking around downtown with her and a buncha peeps. Should make for a good time.

All the while, I have to finish a research paper....

now hes gonna get my beers together and send them maybe next week or something. looking forward to hearing his thoughts on those beers..and also receiving my canadian booze!

Graf, I'm not sure if I told you but I have all of your beer..and I plan to ship it Monday if everything works out. I'm still debating if their is room for that ESB, if not..the bomber of IPA would probably suffice.

ahh that sucks about the flu.

just make sure there is plenty of padding, and whatever fits fits. mainly, i'd like to try the st. ambroise, and a propeller or two hah.
i taped the ends of the bubble wrap down in case the beer slid inside of it. didn't want an end to stick out and possibly break on something if the box was dropped.

i wonder how much of a difference there is between canadian customs and american customs?

I doubt customs are very difference.

341ml St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout
341ml Propeller Russian Revolution Imperial Stout
650ml Propeller India Pale Ale

That ESB may have to wait for the next trade.

Hmm, a dopplebock eh? I've only ever tried a Maibock(rogue dead guy ale), it was quite delicious..about 3-4 sips it was spilled all over me...thanks new year's party..

I know nothing about these styles, although the BA description sounds tasty.

meh pretty much sums up how i feel about sam adams. its alright stuff...better than most american macro breweries..but none of them seem to stand out as great beers. (especially when you compare them to good micro/craft beer.

also, if you aren't sure what kind of glass to use, check beeradvocate.com wheat beer i drink out of a regular old pint glass.

i had a ton of beer this weekend. i'll probably post them later or tomorrow.

The brown ale and black lager come fairly close to that with me. Moreso the brown ale though.

Did I say I found out I can buy Sam Smith Imperial Stout here locally? I definitely gotta get me some of that shit!!

I had a double rum and coke, as well as the regular crown royal and ginger ale at a strip club near my placed. I asked the waitress if they had Propeller(I was definitely expecting a no) and a stripper overheard me and asked, "what is Propeller? Some kind of mixed drink?"...

I briefly explained local micro-brewed beer to a stripper..who I later saw dance. haha, it was awesome.

mmm i bet that SSIS is pretty damn good. i don't think i can buy that down here. i had their ipa not too long ago though.

well was getting a bit out of hand with drinking beer while i'm trying to lose weight..so i'm gonna have to drastically slow down with trying new beers and drinking beers i've already had. might also go so far as to drink mostly light beer..though i think the idea of just drinking a lot less and still drinking good beer sounds better. i just start slow then kinda forget about the whole drinking less part.

anyway...thanks to this newer store, i've been trying shit left and right since they have mostly singles. heres the ones i've had over the last week or since i last posted pics...

flying dog horn dog barleywine style ale

I agree, what size is that bottle graf? Perhaps it's just long. The only Fuller's they sell here are the pale ale and porter, both in 500ml bottles. I would kill a man if I could get my hands on any Fuller's cask-conditioned beer.

Oh well, can't complain about microbrewed beer battered haddock and hand-cut chips with a pitcher of St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Graf, you can't get SSIS and I can? lol, fuck..how I find that hard to believe. haha.

its 11.2 fl oz. or 330 ml. a little less than the standard american bottle of beer. yea i'd love to try any cask conditioned beer. i don't think theres anywhere around here that has any type of fuller's on tap.

bass - as far as i know, i can only get the ss nut brown, old brewery pale ale, ipa, taddy porter, oatmeal stout, organic lager, and pure brewed lager. haven't seen any others that i know of.

heres some other beers

north coast brewing co ruedrich's red seal ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1394.jpg
ncbc has some great beers. this one is good..but it doesn't rank up there with some other their others..particularly my favorite of their beers..the old rasputin. granted they are completely different beers. i assumed it was a red/amber ale..but according to ba its a pale ale. not very pale...but close enough i guess.

fiddler's green ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1395.jpg
i couldn't even find this stuff on ba. we a new addition to the store, so i picked it up one day when we got a bunch of different ipas. good shit...haven't tried their amber ale yet..but i'm assuming its pretty good also. not insanely hoppy, but hoppy enough for me.

sea dog old east india ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1396.jpg
didn't care for this one. its not terrible beer..but wasn't what i was hoping for in an ipa. too malty for me..the maltiest of the bunch from that same night of ipas. not buying anymore..though i guess i'd drink some if it was free.

steelhead double ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1398.jpg
this was some delicious shit! not too crazy as far as intense flavor goes (being a double ipa and all) but fairly easy to drink and fucking tasty. their other beer that i've had is pretty solid as well.

paulaner salvator double bock
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1399.jpg
paulaner makes some good beers...found out about them when some random old german lady saw me scoping out all the beers. she told me it was the best and i should try it. she was almost right. not the best..but pretty good. i'm not crazy into the bocks but this stuff was alright. honestly not sure if i'll buy anymore. don't really remember any details of the flavor. i guess thats part of the problem of drinking a bunch of single beers and then trying to review them from memory.

young's oatmeal stout
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1400.jpg
mmm mmm bitch! i really liked their double chocolate stout, so when i saw this i knew i had to get it. glad i did too..a great stout. unfortunately i haven't seen anymore at that store..just the chocolate stout.

andelot cuvee diabolique (tripel)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1401.jpg
also some good beer. i haven't tired the other one...i forget the name angelique or something. basically devil and angel. don't know if the angel one is a quad or dubbel or what. i like it better than some tripels..but not to the point where its one of my favorites. typical of its style though. certainly not as good as the next tripel i tried.

st. bernardus tripel
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1403.jpg
this company makes some outstanding belgian ales. before i really got into beer i stayed away from these since they labels looked weird to me at the time..but there are two things i've learned since. first...don't judge beer by the label! and second..i was wrong for staying away. this is one of my favorite belgian brewing companies. i've tried almost all of their beer that i can find, but there are still a few i haven't tried yet. i will try them all, and i will buy them again (besides one i didn't care for too much which is coming up in another post because i'm getting hungry and don't feel like continuing right now. )

Well, supply and demand would be a probably, as well as the taxes/shipping for most US breweries, as well as the overall lack of interest in Canada..it probably wouldn't workout all too well.

About the only way I could think of trying to change this problem is to open up a beer store. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be doing that in my lifetime.

Even a petition...I'm not sure how well it would stand up to the government, although their may be hope for the privately owned stores.

edit - Oh, and it would only have to be province wide...because every provinces booze laws are under their own jurisdiction.

well at least for NS, wouldn't the beer companies just have to deal with the government? then the govt just distributes to all the LCs as they see fit?

i don't know how many people would be interested..but thats what the petition figures out. i'm sure there are a lot of people on ba that would sign it. ha i'd sign if my vote counted. i know the boys and the rockpile would sign!

in the words of fear: "more beer!"

some of the shit i didn't wind up posting yesterday.

he'brew genesis ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1404.jpg
i was surprised how good the other one (based on how much i enjoy jewish food ) so i tried the other beer they have available at the store. this is a lighter ale than the messiah bold. the bottle says light brown ale (i don't think they mean light as in calories.) but ba says pale ale. either way it was pretty decent. i would say i like the mb better though. a bit more flavor. still a decent beer though. not something i recommend trying right away by any means..more something to try once you are running low on pale ale options.

sierra nevada 2007 summerfest
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1406.jpg
a limited run of their summer offering. a lager! the only lager sn makes as far as i know. good shit. better than some ales i've had for sure...though not as good as even more ales. ha. easy drinking stuff though with a smooth flavor. the beer matches the name i must say. i could easily drink this stuff all day long. though i think i'd say the same for their pale ale which i like a hell of a lot more!

wychwood wychcraft
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1407.jpg
whenever i see something from wychwood, i pick it up on the spot usually. this was the first time i saw this stuff so i grabbed it.. glad i did too. so far i've liked every beer i've had of theirs. honestly i was a bit let down by the amount of hops in the flavor. the bottle says its triple hopped..but i guess that is by british standards. (the ipas i've had from the uk are nowhere near as hoppy as many of the ipas here in the states) but it still balanced out with the maltyness and made it less focused on the malty flavor.

left hand brewing co. twin sisters double ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1410.jpg
tastes just like it smells...delicious! damn this stuff was good. expensive but good. comes in a nice big corked bottle and is a limited release. i WILL be buying more of this, despite the fact that its $13.99 a bottle. probably go today just so they don't run out for good. hell i compare this more to wine (not in that it tastes like wine, just is fucking solid as far as its own taste and quality) so really 14 bucks isn't so bad. one thing that surprised me was that its bottle conditioned. not something i'm used to for an ipa...except that belgian one i guess.. has some fruity flavors in there as well as the typical hops and malts of a double ipa. very smooth though and pretty easy to drink for a double ipa. if you like ipas and see this, buy it.

st. bernardus abt 12 (quadrupel)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_1411.jpg
another damn good beer. rated highly on ba too (95 i think)...could be in the top 100 and i wouldn't be surprised at all. this is one of my favorite belgians so far. so far i've only not really cared for one offering from this brewer and even that wasn't bad..just didn't live up to what i was expecting after having a few of their other beers.

^nice post. that last picture made me cum a little. (monks seem to have that effect on me)

I split another 6 pack of the springboard ale. This shit is very good. We also split a big bottle of the left hand imperial stout.

too much. it really varies though. sometimes i say fuck it and get a bunch of shit..other times i'll just get 2 six packs of good beer or at least 2 six packs worth and then a 12 of some high life light to drink after i've had a few of the good ones. on average i'd guess anywhere from 20 to 40 bucks.

today i spent more than that though. since a few of these are limited releases, never to be brewed again... i bought two (large corked) bottles of left hand brewing co double ipa, another big corked bottle of left hand 2007 oak aged imperial stout, and just for the fuck of it a 4 pack of st bernard abt 12 quadrupel. it was 57 fucking dollars! the double ipa bottles are 14 each..the oak aged is was similar in price and actually so was the 4 pack. but i'm going to age one of the double ipas, and the oak aged is. i drank the other double ipa tonight also had one of the st bernards. i normally don't spend that much..but those two are going to be gone, for me, as soon as that store is out of them, so i said fuck it.

my least favorite st. bernardus is the pater 6, it wasn't bad, just not near what i was expecting after having the others i've tried.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/259/7879 this is one you might really like since you are into the other wheat beers. but i would try any or better yet, all of them.

bassbenig, your pm box is full so i'm just posting this here:

cool, thanks! we have some samuel smith's coasters but they aren't mine so i wouldn't have been able to give you any in the first place. my roommate got them in some box that came with a pint glass, bottles of nut brown, old brewery pale ale, and the oatmeal stout. next time around i'll try to think of some extras that will fit in with the beers easily.

haha, it's all good, I have a bunch of Sam Smith coasters all ready for that same gift set. Bought 3 of the godamn things around xmas.

Hell, I even have Rogue coasters from a few years ago, way before I was even legal age or tried their beers. Thanks dad.

Creepy looking bottles definitely can be a little imtimidating to the average beer drinker. It's a shame though because Primier(private store) was in a mall complex about a 10 minute walk from my house before they moved to downtown Halifax. Hell, I remember Rogue bombers were $5 each a few years ago too, and now they're $8.

hah cool i guess you got the SS coasters covered then. enough for a fucking party. never seen any rogue coasters, know how your dad got those? i've never even seen a rogue gift box before. a rogue pint glass would be cool though!

shitty about the prices of the bombers. oddly enough, the shakespheare stout is one of the cheapest bombers i can get here, and its my favorite by far! backasswards sheeeit. fine with me though.

was talking to one of my good friends earlier that i haven't seen in a year or two that moved back to florida. he said he's all about some good beer, particularly stouts (guinness) so i told him when he comes down this way i'll buy some old rasputin is. i drank a couple of those once then had a guinness and it made the guinness feel like drinking water almost! he's a likely candidate for another good beer drinker, i just don't know how many stores sell that shit up in their area. kind of rural area of central florida.

you now any girls into good beer? i was just thinking about that and i can only think of one but i don't really know her at all. some girl at this place i always go to for metal shows is a bartender and was talking to me about beer for a few when i tried ordering a sierra nevada stout...she was telling me the pale ale is much better (mainly because she doesn't like malty beers) gonna have to try and recognize her next time i go there.

They gave the coasters to my dad when he used to buy wine there. I remember him telling me them saying "it is really fantastic beer"..I wish I would have listened then. lol.

I had my first Guinness since I was 15 only 7-8 months ago and it definitely did seem very watery...although it has that notorious creamy-feel head. I'll try for a Guinness when a place has nothing but macros..hell, sometimes they don't even have Guinness! Pretty incredible how much better stouts can be. haha.

I've said it before, I found the Shakespeare Stout to be very similar to St. Ambroise OS. I guess you'll have to see for yourself!

Girls that enjoy craft beer? No, not really..a few lady friends of mine have tried many of my beers and compliment them, but have never bought them.

haha, maybe they were just trying to be nice? Probably not, because they've tried some of them(mainly some strong Belgians) and flatly said they did not like them. Although, Chimay blue seemed to be a winner with most of them.

Rocheforte 10...not so much.

Edit - Oh yeah, have you had the Guinness Extra Stout yet? I'm pretty sure you'd get the same version that I would get..5% and it's brewed by Labatt here in Canada. Godamn I didn't enjoy it once so ever, apparently they just add a concentrated mix to a lager..it sure tastes like it.

lol.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/101/pour.php

If the beer was shaken up a bit, best to wait a little while before pouring as well. Also, you DO NOT want you not pour in about 1cm worth of beer at the end of the pour, leave it in the bottle. This is excessive yeast that you don't want in your beer. You don't have to do this to many beers, but mainly bottle-fermented styles such as heavy Belgian Ales.

Edit - Oh yeah, and pour very slowly with a beer you know that has a lot of foam.

yea, that would definitely give you a jump start on some good beer. i don't think i'd have listened either at that age. back then i just drank shitty beer that was cheap.

yep, have had the extra stout guinness. they have that here, and also the draught in a bottle or can. i think all the guinness, harp, and probably smithwicks in the us (and canada too i guess) was brewed up in canada. ha i didn't know they just added shit to a lager though.

looking forward to that st. ambroise! i just checked the shipping status and it says "ups internal activity code" in plattsburg, ny, us. it also says "status: exception, see description below" it says i'd have to log in to see the details i guess...don't think i have a login, but if i do i can't remember it. i hope everything is ok with the package.

trans - hah yea you have to pour that stuff slow. i forget what kind of beer it was..but i did come across one (maybe it was juggled around a bit before i bought it or something) but no matter how slow i poured, the foam was insane and it took a few minutes just to pour the damn beer into my glass.

then theres always those wheat beers you are supposed to pour to a point then stir up the yeast and pour the rest in. those are made to balance out the yeast flavor...with belgians (at least the ones i've tried) too much yeast just messes up the already complex flavors.

Yes I have:

Tracking Detail | Help help

Your package has experienced an exception.

Uh, hopefully nothing wrong happened..although especially since it's in NY.

"What is an exception?
An exception occurs when a package or shipment encounters an unforeseen event, which could result in a change to the expected delivery day. For example, if your shipment requires a signature, and the receiver is unavailable for signature, your shipment will experience an exception."

Uhh, I'm not really liking that "unforeseen event" there.

I'm really hoping it's nothing too serious.

duvel is SUPPOSED to get that huge head, thats one of the reasons you buy the special glass. i poured it perfectly, but i did pour the yeasts in. wont do that next time but it sure didnt ruin the beer!

i dont get that massive head with the rest of the beers i pour in there, only duvel

that would suck ass if some shit is going down. mine had an exception too, but that was when it was in either NB or at the dartmouth ups place. i don't know how or why that one happened either. hopefully its just some stupid bullshit like that.

edit...i think when my package had the exception it said what it was right there..it said "sender requests package held for pickup" i think. well one thing i wonder is why it would go direct from NS to NY, US.. it doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't go the exact same route. maybe NY has just received info that the package will be coming through? i have no idea.. but the one i sent went from NY to QC.

yea, most belgian ales have a big head, but if you pour it a bit more slowly, it won't be as big. i like a decent head, but not to the point where my face is buried in foam before i can feel the actual beer making it to my lips. conversely you can pour it faster and have the head overflow and spill down the side of the glass. i guess its fine waiting for the head to die down a little..you shouldn't be in a rush to drink a beer like that in the first place so sitting around with it is fine..also lets it warm up a little if it was in the fridge for a while. that depends on your fridge temps though...ours is pretty cold so i think it gets the beer to drop below the suggested serving temps. i still like my beers cold though.

also, try some more but without that yeast. with the yeast won't kill you, but it's not intended to be consumed like that. pretty much why you'll never see someone drinking duvel out of the bottle..or at least you shouldn't see anyone doing that heh.

Hmm, hopefully everything is fine with the package..I guess I'll know if the FBI show up at my house. haha.

I bought a Samuel Smith Taddy Porter at a private store to which I haven't been too until today. They carry some Rogue 6packs and more SS, but were all depleted of anything worth while. They also have a room with strictly Propeller beers which is kinda cool.

I'm going to drink the Porter tonight!

haha fbi? you mean the mounties?

cool news about the "private store." i don't quite get that though...or do you mean private as in not run by the government? even though their stock was low, were you able to tell what was there? and if they have more beer you haven't seen at the LC?

mmm taddy porter. i was looking at that yesterday when i bought dinner at the store..but i said to myself "no more beer yet." since i'm trying to drink a little less, and i also have a few bottles of st bernadrus abt 12 and some other belgian ale i've been putting off because its got some cherry lambic blended into it. i didn't notice that part about the lambic because it only says it in tiny letters.

haha, NO TEH FBIZ. Canada's intelligence is called "CSIS". Pronounced "SEE SUS".

Yes, privately and not government owned. Although I'm pretty sure the NSLC has to ok all of their alcohol and even get a portion of their profit.

The stock was all depleted for the "good stuff"..Only had 3 taddy porters and 1 SS OS which we bought out. They had a list of what they normally get and it including 6packs of Rogue Dead Guy ale, mocha porter as well as other SS and Rogue products.

They carry all of Auslan/St. Ambroise brands, but then again..so does Premier.

I'm going to go to Premier in a week or two because that's when they are getting their beer shipment!

Tranz, why don't you try some other Belgian brands?

Chimay was too expensive?? Odd..shouldn't be any more than Duvel unless she meant the 750ml bottles, which I pay a little over $10cdn for.

You may really enjoy Orval.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/37/129

But yeah, tell your mom to fuck off and try the Chimay blue, but the white and red are also very delicious.

Did you try this? Ommegang Witte? I think it was being talked about recently?

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/16506

Probably easy to find, seeing how it's brewed in NY.

Allagash White
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4/59

I haven't tried either..both are from seemingly reputable companies however.

For the same style as a Duvel(belgian stron pale ale), try to get your hands on these:

Unibroue La Fin Du Monde(one of my favourite beers period)
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/34

Delirium Tremens
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/180/1385

And many more that I haven't tried.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/55

Use Beeradvocate and their Beerfly option, it can give you beer knowledge far from what you can ever get here.

http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/directory/9/US/NY

Check this store out...it's in Saratoga Springs.

honestly, here in the states, it seems all the belgian beers are expensive. 3 to 4 bucks a bottle. that allagash white shouldn't be crazy expensive though..its american. you'd probably love that one trans. they are from maine too, so if you are in ny then there should be some on sale near you somewhere.

hah bass is right. get your mom to sit down with a cheap american macro lager and something like chimay blue. hah its not even fair, but she'll get the point.

good news bassb. just checked the ups tracking. no more exception!

status: in transit.

" LACHINE,
QC, CA 05/03/2007 8:09 P.M. EXPORT SCAN"

i guess next comes the final hurdle. american customs.

haha yes, hopefully there are not any UPS employees on MT reading our beer smuggling conversations.

Tranz, tell your mom to stop being a n00bz.

funny thing about that is that just before i mailed yours, i asked the ups guy that always delivers to our office building for any tips or suggestions. he gave me a few pointers and then said "but you didn't hear it from me!"

closing up the night with a glass of don de dieu. almost went with the maudite, but i have only had one bottle of this stuff so i gave it a shot. i must say unibroue makes some superb beers. easily one of my favorite brewing companies. thanks for the heads up! i guess i'd have eventually tried them once i realized what they were..but the packaging has no real hint as to what style the beer is..well besides the short description printed on the bottles...even those don't say the style, just the flavors and whatnot.

edit...yea the whole ground shipping made it seem weird it would skip all that ground to get to ny.

Something isn't right when I have more selection of Rogue but you have more selection of Unibroue..lol.

Tomorrow should tell us if the package made it through customs I would imagine. Tonight I'll be sleeping with my knife, THEY'RE NOT TAKING ME ALIVE!!

ha i had a dream that i checked the status and it said it was detained because it contained "wine/beer/liquor" but then i woke up. today it has ANOTHER exception! but it also says

" PLATTSBURGH,
NY, US 05/04/2007 7:51 A.M. PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE;RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY. NOW IN-TRANSIT FOR DELIVERY"

i guess that means its on its way to me, but i don't get why the status says exception. they also rescheduled the delivery date..one extra day, so thats not bad and if it was being held back, it wouldn't have any delivery date. that last update was a few hours ago, so hopefully it will reach a new destination soon and that will definitely mean it's through, but i think "released by clearing agency" means it has passed customs inspection.

haha, that's pretty funny about your dream.

Yeah, I just looked at the tracking site. "Now in-Transit for Delivery" is a very good sign.

hah i was pissed, it was one of those realistic seeming dreams. i guess because who dreams about checking shipping status for a package? that and maybe the don de dieu had me thinking about good beers right before i went to sleep.

i agree, the in transit part from ny is a very good sign! i've been checking every so often to see if it has made it to another state since the last update was about 4 hours ago.

got a bunch of good beers today...pretty excited about trying the sierra nevada ipa. i've never seen this stuff on sale anywhere and grabbed a 6 pack as soon as i realized what it was. read a little on ba that it is more of an english style ipa which is sorta disappointing... in my opinion american ipa > english ipa...even though the style was invented by the brits. i was hoping more for something like the sn pale ale. can't always go by reviews though, and i've liked every other sn i've had...should be good.

Fuck yeah!

Godamnit, I told my friend if he bought me a bottle of taddy porter yesterday(which he did), I'd share ALL of the beers we trade with him...I'm not sure I can go through with that offer..

The Yeti I'll save for him though...godamnit, I want my friends to try these beers, but I want them all to myself. haha.

lol fuck, suggestions?

1. retract the statement and say you were drunk when you said it

2. give them a shot or two of each

3. drink them and say you forgot

4. drink them and say you were drunk, forgot what you said and just cracked them open

5. tell them to fuck off

6. in the future, don't mention the upcoming trade

you should drink most of each one i'd say...after all you were the one that did the trade and had to buy beer and pay to ship it here for the trade. maybe you can get them to throw down some money on the next beers?

edit...fuck yea!

i've never seen a beer with leaves in it. sure its not just chunks of yeast? let me know what you think of that allagash, i thought it was pretty fucking good. the white is the only one i can buy in small bottles..the rest i have to buy big corked bottles.

and yea, la fin du monde is the shit! actually was just reading through this book my roommate bought on beer and the author even said la fin, trois pistoles, and a few others were some of their favorite beers out of any beer. i agree, quality shit. didn't realize they changed ownership (maybe bass said it here in the thread, but i didn't realize then how good their beer was) but they still seem to be cranking out some good ass beer.

my store had allagash in HUGE bottles, and in four packs. the four packs had three different flavors too. i guess it is a north east thing. oh man, they ahd huge bottles of that abby beer. but its too much to drink in one sitting IMO. i wish i could get small bottles of that abbey beer, that balding monk is so awesome

ehh a bottle like that will pour about 3 glasses tops. you don't want to pour the last bit. thats actually the one thing i don't like about the big ass bottles. even with a small regular bottle i don't like to pour for a bit, stop, then realize there is more to pour. it stirs up the yeast. i suppose you could always cork the bottle again...we have this rubber cork you can put into the bottle with this hand held corker? haha i don't know the word for this thing...but it just makes it very easy to re cork the bottle. much easier than trying to squeeze the real one back in. then just let it chill in the fridge..the yeast will settle and it will stay cold.

i've never done that before though, so not sure how it works out as far as carbonation. you could always pour a glass for your mom to try.

Well, craft beer is like no other really...does she like wine? She might like a "port-like" Belgian dark ale.

I tried this beer called Abbey from New Belgium Brewing Inc.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/1912

pretty cheap (6.50 a 6 pack) and really fucking tastey. Plus, the alcohol percentage was 7. I felt a buzz after 2 which is saying something because I am somewhat of an alcoholic. Very good beer. I will be buying this a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

yea, i thought that allagash white was pretty damn good myself. still haven't gotten around to trying any of the others yet. maybe i'll get some this week or weekend. actually going to my parents this weekend for mothers day and to celebrate my bday a little bit early. probably ride with my brother up to the alcohol store at the exchange and try some more of their beers. they're the only store i've ever seen yuengling porter. kinda surprised nobody around here has it.

cool...that stuff is awesome! you can even save one, or just buy more, and age it for a while. just keep it cool and dark and try and forget you have it. i've had some aging since december...its been so long, that its not a problem for me aging it even longer...just buy other beer if you feel like drinking.

haha i don't know how you got some and didn't drink it then. i usually crack open a bottle of whatever i come home with right away..unless it wasn't chilled at all.

yea its up there...9% according to BA. usually anything with the word imperial or double in it is on the stronger side. aging it will cause the flavor to mellow out and blend together more. i've yet to have any that was aged..but i can't wait to try it.

edit...i guess i could've gone for the double post...but i just wanted to say

fuk yehz! teh be3rz r 1n fL0r1d4! ..granted they are in the way northern part of the state and its a long drive. should only be a few more days tops.

i went to the bigger beer store today...bought a corked bottle of allagash dubbel http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4/10 , another corked bottle of delirium nocturnum http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/180/1421 , and a six pack of random beers that i'll post about later... anyway...the guy that is ringing me up starts talking to me about beers..he's pretty cool and he seems to know his shit..then when he puts those two corked (bottle conditioned) bottles into a bag, he lays them down on their sides! thanks for stirring up my yeast asshole! oh well...i got other beers to drink while those settle.

also..i saw a few beers i really want to try now. the only thing was they were all expensive, so i put it off to try one at a time at a later date.

meantime london porter
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5062/25548

meantime ipa
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5062/25231

and there was a rogue XS imperial stout. so far i think its different than their regular imperial stout..but i can't find it on BA so i'm not sure.
http://bevilacqua.us/ljpics/RogueI2PACeramic.jpg comes in a bottle like that, only thats the double ipa (also something i want to try!) i'll probably pick up at least one of these this weekend...just don't know which one to get first.
