ok, who the fuck here has awaken, from a night of drinking, still drunk, and then the hangover kicks in around noon. this has got to be the worst short term side effect alcohol could possibly have on one. i sometimes wake up a tad drunk and feel kind of good, minus the slight dizzines. but, after a few hours, that wears off and its a full-blown hangover from around noon, untill well beyond nightfall. some very terrible shit there.

That has happened to me several times. Best thing to do is get some food and especially water in you. Or just drink again so you never sober up.

yeah, i awake very thirsty anyway, and often dream of refreshments during the night. but there are some of those hangover days, where any bit of food i consume, will be tossed up within about 20 minutes, along with godawful stomach acid. ive often wanted to do the ol' continue-drinking routine, but honestly, i gag at the smell of liquor when i have a hangover, and im really not much of a beer fan. ALTHOUGH, i have had some beer that did rid myself of a couple of hangovers, and also managed to make me a lot more drunk than beer usually could. i dont know, its often a shit experience for those who love being drunk.

I just woke up from drinking over 14 hours...started at 12pm yesterday..my body hates me.

It was a good time though, tried a shitload of beers I haven't tried at two different pubs. My friend took some pic's which I'll post when I get em.

Happy Hour was 3 hours at one beer bar...it was fucking sweet! $3.50cdn for microbrew/imports. haha, we definitely took advantage for those 3 hours. At any given time we had two beers on the go.

And a pitcher of St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is drinking heaven.

timedragon, oh hell, yeah. I wasn't married to hubby yet, but we'd gone out partying. (I didn't even really like him then now that I think about it.) I worked with his mom and he and I had gone out on the day before Christmas Eve. I didn't drink that much, but enough that when I got up a few hours later and went to work I was in dire need of water and that started my drunk up all over again. I worked in a small bakery putting up orders and slicing stuff. I felt cross eyed and running on slow speed for a long time that day. And that was one of the busiest days of the year. Never did it again.

$3.50, damn that's not bad for normally expensive beer. I remember back in the day this club across the river in Sault, ONT would serve beers every Friday for $1.50 Canadian, so naturally I'd spend like 30 bucks on Labbatt Ice and get annhilated. I went there on News Years 2000, spent 20 bucks for the cover charge that night, and after doing 7 shots of Jagermeister for each of the 7 Labbatt Ice's I drank in the first two hours there, after having a six pack of Icehouse at the house, got kicked out for falling down stairs and passing out at the bar. <<<talk about a run on sentence.

My girlfriend was fucking pissed, because I basically ruined the night for her, our friends, my sisters, everyone as we had to drive back to the states early that night. When I woke up the next day and was told what happened I immediately grabbed a beer and resumed my drunk. Fuck yeah.

Jesus, what kind of stein are you looking for?? One made from baby bones? A good glass stein should cost you less than $10.

These were taken last night...sadly we didn't take many pic's...because well..we were getting fucking drunk.

Me and a pitcher of St. Ambroise OS.

mmmmm pitchers of stout!

looks pretty fucking good. i wish i knew of a place around here that had samples like that. i've only been to two places that brew and serve beer and neither had small samples.

how are those cask conditioned ales? i've yet to have anything like that. i tried at the tampa bay brewing co, but of course the cask conditioned beers were all already sold out. i don't think the place here has anything like that..they mostly brew lagers. there are some damn good lagers out there..but i just wish this place would make some ales also.

last night i broke my no booze during the week thing..but i only had two beers. was at the krisiun, belphegor, unleashed show and had a couple sierra nevada pale ales while there. would be the shit if they had it on tap, but they just had bottles in a cooler. either way its pretty sweet they have such a good beer available. most clubs just have the usual american macroshit and liquor.

nice mug there moe booze. maybe it has a clear bottom? i've seen a few like that. i don't own a stein or whatever you want to call them. no plans for it as of yet..but maybe once i have my own place i'll work on expanding my drinking vessels.

Actually, I was expecting a lot more from the cask-conditioned beer. I won't blame the cask..but most of their beers we had tried(6 in all) were really sour tasting. My friend ordered a fish and chips, which I ate most of his fries but actually tried the fish..I have not eaten fish since I was a kid and I actually enjoyed it this time around. It was haddock, and I guess it's about time for me to like at least some fish, considering how big seafood is in the maritimes, especially Nova Scotia.

The cask-conditioned place was called The Henry House, as I've mentioned before many threads back. The atmosphere was top-notch, and being an old politician's house from over 200 years ago, much of the house was period-looking. They had a blonde ale that I ordered again and my friend ordered a Peculiar...the only beers really worth ordering. Much of their beers were around 4.5%, except I believe the blonde ale was 5.6% and the Peculiar, 5%. They had four other "house" beers which were a best bitter, dry hopped bitter, irish stout and an IPA. The beers are brewed about a 5 minute walk down the street at the Granite Brewery. There is also a Granite Brewery in Toronto.

We were then going to go to a supposedly "superior" brewpub but it was closed for renovations! lol, just this day in particular. So we went another beer bar and ordered an onslaught of beer and watched the Canadiens vs the Maple Leafs. It was only my second time there and I was quite pissed when I found out they didn't ANY STRONG BELGIAN ALES IN BOTTLE OR TAP. 60 taps and over 100 bottled beers and nothing to that extent...actually, wait..they had Leffe..but I don't like it anyways.

But what kind of pisses me off is how it's generally pretty hard to find bars/pubs that carry local microbrews..you basically have to research before hand to find out. It's also amazing the pull MolCoor/AB/InBev has on bars.

huh..that sucks about teh cask beers..i too have high expectations or them. i guess theres beers of all styles that people just don't like, so maybe their cask beer just sucks? who knows. i asked the beer store guy here about them and he said the only thing he knew of was some beer festival thing down in miami "might" have them. sounds like trouble though...i don't imagine i'd leave a beer festival sober..and i don't know anyone that would want to drive to a beer fest and not drink/get drunk.

the place in my city has some pretty weak lagers..as far as the ABV goes. all of them were below 5..many were about 3.5% if i remember it right. so we tried their belgian style tripel or quadrupel i forget what it was.. they didn't mention any other beers on tap though..i wonder if they have other micros on tap too..or just the usual stuff.

you should go check out bubble's comedy club and have some propeller with him haha. that would be the shit. i forget what its called, but i was reading about it online somewhere.

couple more days till friday..then i'm gonna get a nice chunk of booze... probably pick up more of the corsendonk brown ale before they run out of that since i don't know how often they'll be restocking that one. not sure what else i'll be getting..probably just whatever catches my eye as usual.

Yeah, I definitely won't rule out casks just because a few beer.

I've never been there, but I've heard many times that Bubbles' Mansion doesn't have taps..it's all bottled beer. That's fucked up bullshit right there.

Man, I would love to go to a beer festival. haha, and no...you probably wouldn't be sober at the end of it.

I may be cutting my beer consumption down. I was just explaining good beer to a 17 year old girl..haha, and then she asked me if I had a beer gut.

yeah, so I may ACTUALLY get the YMCA membership instead of beer this weekend, haha...which I've been saying I'd get for a few months now.

doc - cool...ive never seen that style of grolsch..just normal pilsner or lager whatever it is..then amber ale (the 6 pack i had was the last i'll ever have), and blond lager (which i've heard is good).

bassb - that sucks about bubble's mansion. maybe you could trade him some kitties if he'll put in some propeller taps.

actually it's called Weizen. Since my camera is fucked i couldnt take pic, which is a damn shame because i poured it perfectly

the pouring is rather odd; you take the long glas and pour the beer in till about 60% of the glass (keep the glass angled), close the bottle again, lay it flat on the table, roll it a few times and pour the rest straight in.

should look something like this:
http://www.zibb.nl/horeca/artimg/a20061427195538.jpg

pouring technique:
http://www.bav.nl/verzamel/vilt-grolsch-weizen-ak.jpg

tasted damn good. very fruity and pretty strong for a blond one. i recommend it strongly, allthough it might be expensive abroad

Cool Doc! You can only get Grolsch lager here..I don't think I've tried it, but I'd much rather try what you have drank.

Anyways, check this out guys. haha.

i'll have to check out that video at home..my computer here at work sucks ass and isn't really capable of watching video..nor do i have sound.

so i modified my no booze during the week thing haha..after a whopping couple days. i figure having one or two beers a day won't kill me or my wallet. i stopped by the beer store to pick up more corsendonk brown ale. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_8761.jpg great stuff if you can find it.

i also noticed they had some of their pale ale available in singles. i picked one up because my friend that told me about corsendonk in the first place said she really didn't like the pale ale.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9225.jpg

i thought it was good..but not great as far as belgians go..and not great as far as pale ales go. even the guy at the store commented on it being strange for a belgian brewery to produce a pale ale..but he also pointed out a belgian ipa! i'm gonna be picking up a bottle of that stuff tomorrow after work without a doubt. not sure what to expect..but sounds interesting and worth a try at least.

some other beers i've had lately since i was being lazy about cropping pictures hah.

dogfish head 90 min ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_8763.jpg

maybe i'm crazy..maybe its all in my mind..or maybe there is something more to drinking from the right kind of glass than i thought..but i swear i found it more pleasurable to drink it from a tulip glass (ba recommends this) instead of the pint glass i had the first one in. maybe i was taking smaller sips? i really can't say, but its a pretty solid ipa. not my favorite though..there was something to the flavor that didn't quite sit well with me..i guess its just because its a double ipa and i'm more used to standard ipas...expensive...but you can still buy a 4 pack for a couple bucks less than ONE 12 oz. 120 min IPA! i was actually reaching for the 120 then saw it was about $12 a bottle!

konings hoeven quadrupel
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_8773.jpg

grabbed this one at random a week or so ago..just a single bottle. my memory of it is that i thought it was so so. not something i plan on buying again, but not bad to the point where i wouldn't try any of their other offerings. moderately expensive.....overall i'd say try it if you are a big fan of quadrupels..other than that, i'd only say try it if you've already tried every other beer at the store and want to try something new.

young's luxury double chocolate stout
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/IMG_8774s.jpg

also picked this up randomly after noticing what style it was. glad i did too. a nice chocolate malty flavor to a medium bodied stout. i was thinking it would be heavier..but wasn't the case. its from the uk, so i guess all of you across the pond should be able to find this stuff..not sure how widespread it is over on this continent but i don't think its too obscure. definitely give it a go if you like chocolate stouts.

obolon porter
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_8775.jpg

the first ukrainian beer i've ever had. wasn't sure what all they knew about making beer, so i didn't have a clue what to expect. (i have tried a couple polish porters and wasn't too impressed.) this was a good porter though. malty with a slight sweet flavor...though i had this about a week or so ago as well, so my memory is a little hazy. good..but not to the point that i will be buying another one anytime soon. maybe i'll get more after having exhausted the porter selection at the store and i feel like having something i haven't had in a while.

rogue chocolate stout
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9235.jpg

had this last night...pretty sure i already wrote something about this one before. rogue makes some damn good beers and you should try them all! unfortunately it seems my beer store has reduced its selection of rogue bombers. this was the only one they had available the last two times i went in there.

i think this was my longest post ever?

Yes, I've heard the 120 min. was expensive....did you look at the alcohol content?

holy shit! i didn't even notice that...damn 42 proof beer! i'm not sure how much a bottle like in the picture would cost..but for a single 12 oz its $12 here. i think they have 4 packs which should save you some..but for those 4 beers, you could probably buy a couple cases of shitty beer.

haha i like that one guys review "Taste - Deep sip? I don't think so. This bad boy lasted all evening for me. This will kick your arse if you try to down this 40 proof brew."

he then says its pretty smooth though. i tried this shit a while back if i'm not mistaken..have to check the bottle collection hah, but i'll have to give it another go now that i have a better working knowledge of beer. when i tried it before, along with the 90 min, i was just getting started on trying microbrewery beers so i probably thought it tasted strong and weird(weird in a not good way).

i bought some spaten optimator which really sucked in my opinion, dont know why i was so hard up on it the first time i had it. maybe this pack is stale, it was dusty. anyway i got sam adams spring brew , sam adamsi s ALWAYS quality save their miserable porter i had from their winter pack. this spring brew OWNS, its like hoegaarden, white wheat ale. realllly light and delicious

maybe i'm crazy..maybe its all in my mind..or maybe there is something more to drinking from the right kind of glass than i thought..but i swear i found it more pleasurable to drink it from a tulip glass (ba recommends this) instead of the pint glass i had the first one in. maybe i was taking smaller sips? i really can't say, but its a pretty solid ipa. not my favorite though..there was something to the flavor that didn't quite sit well with me..i guess its just because its a double ipa and i'm more used to standard ipas...expensive...but you can still buy a 4 pack for a couple bucks less than ONE 12 oz. 120 min IPA! i was actually reaching for the 120 then saw it was about $12 a bottle!

no, you are not crazy. i've had MANY MANY drunken nights with this beer and i find that taking really small sips is the best way to enjoy the brew. did i ever tell the story about me drinking 10 of these 90 min ipas in 1 night and pissing in the theater? good times.

nice post, by the way.

i like their holiday porter. that is actually the beer that got me interested in porter as a whole new "genre" of beer.

anyways, tonight, i bought some microbrew - saint arnold's amber ale out of houston tx.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/337/1065

there was a sale, 6.99 for a 6 pack, so i picked one of these up and 2 6packs of miller highlife tall boys. the saint arnold's is alright, not a beer i would buy again, but definately worth a try.....and for that price??

i have had their lawnmower beer

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/337/1344

which is a fuckin delicious lager.

word to the wise: miller highlife is probably the best cheap beer, especially after really expensive beer. why blow all your money on multiple nice beers when you can drink 1 and go all night with some good highlife? after all, it is the champagne of burr...

haha yea must be weird. i guess there are pretty much no microbrewed american beers that get exported? well at least across the atlantic or pacific? i can't even really remember seeing any big american beer over there..well in italy, i haven't been anywhere else over there. then again, i never really came across any good beer stores..just small stores with various food, drinks, and other random items. the whole time i was there i think i only saw one grocery store. i should've gone in to check out their beer.

i agree with moe, i liked the holiday porter. have you tried many other porters tranny? maybe its just not a style you like.

have to agree on the high life too. its cheap as hell, doesn't really taste much worse than budweiser, and that about sums it up i guess.

Yes, Doc gets really good European beer I'm sure..but not really good North American beer!

WHERE IS THE BALANCE?? INTERNATIONAL WATERZ??

I'd like to try this high life crap, but they don't sell it here...MDG isn't THAT bad, however their advertising really hit their audience. Hence, their current promotion at teh storz.

http://nslcweb.thenslc.com/portal/p...&_schema=PORTAL

I'm still debating whether or not to drink or get in shape this weekend.

Edit - Here are pic's from the 13th or 14th hour of drinking beer on Monday. Note the Perverted Grimus look in the first one.

That beer is Moosehead Pale Ale, which he had to get at a cold beer store drive thru because everything else was closed. Not very good.

drink and work out with a beer helmet! you could find one without the face mask and just run on a treadmill all day while drinking.

i'm hitting up the beer store right after i deposit my paycheck at the bank.

i got my credit card bill today. turns out, i spent over 300 dollars on alcohol in the month of february (granted, this includes a keg and a handle of nice alcohol), but shit....that is crazy; i thought i was saving money by changing from a pothead into an alcoholic.

drinking a lot isn't cheap..especially once you start getting into less expensive beer. tonight i bought some piraat belgian ale, a bottle of belgian ipa, some redhook copper hook spring ale, some shipyard brewer's choice 2007 honey porter, and a 12 of high life light as filler.

houblon chouffe dobbelen ipa tripel
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9260.jpg
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/27804

at first it was a bit too strong in the flavor/taste area for me..but after having a little i warmed up to it and it was pretty good. i was looking forward to trying this stuff once the guy pointed it out. its basically the hoppiest belgian i've ever had. you can still tell its a belgian ale, but with plenty of hop bitterness. i am buying another one of these bottles, but i'm going to age it. i can't imagine how good this shit would taste after sitting around for a few years. its not incredible as is, but i think with time it would become a very very good beer...especially for being such a strange style. not too many ipas produced in belgium.

shipyard brewer's choice 2007 honey porter
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9261.jpg
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/139/35088

i wrote a review there so i guess just read that one.

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48/156
the piraat i guess i didn't manage a picture of yet. it is pretty good..but i think the hype exceeds the beer at least in my opinion. i've heard so many great things about this beer..and even some review that was quoted on the case (of course) says "absolutely one of the top five beers in the world!" i disagree. good...yea sure...great..i guess. kinda a little too yeasty for me. not as sweet as many belgians...i think the strongest flavor is the yeast. i have 3 more to go so maybe i'll grow to like it more or less..but as of now i am not incredibly impressed. i'd much rather drink a duvel or chimay.

the redhook copper hook spring ale was decent...only had one so ill probably write about that one later when i have another one.

its not good by any means...well unless you compare it to shitty malt liquor.. but honestly its a great filler beer. those other beers aren't cheap at all. if i drank just that stuff all the time i'd spend a lot of money. i just drink a few of the good ones for a bit..then switch to the shit beer to continue getting drunk. no sense in drinking a 3 dollar beer when i'm drunk and just want to consume more alcohol.

Jesus graf, I'm so impressed with your selection; it is never-ending.

I bought two 6er's of Propeller ESB and a bomber of their IPA last night. I gave a couple of beer away, but here's the kicker...half of a 40oz of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. My friend split it with me. Jesus, I hadn't drank that shit since I was probably 15. We ran out of coke so we had to mix with rootbeer, and then cheap fruit juice. lol.

A good time though. Nothing like drinking beer and watching Ottawa lose to Atlanta. lol.

Oh yeah, and at 4am I walked home from my friend's in a fucking ice storm.

they certainly have a decent selection at my store. though i'm running out of beers i have heard of and wanted to try or beers from companies i have liked other offerings from. i'm down to trying new shit they get in, and beers i haven't heard of before for the most part. i'd say i've had about 1/4 - 1/2 of the beers they have there.

drinking more of the same shit tonight. drank my last corsendonk brown ale. bassb if you can find this shit, buy it! if not, i should mail you some. its fucking awesome. this girl wasn't messing around. its on of the smoothest, easiest drinking belgians i've ever had...if not the most smooth and easy to drink. i wish i had more..i also wish it wasn't 11.99 for a 4 pack.

im telling you man, i'll ship the shit there. if you want to try with small amounts ie two beers or four, i am down. if you can't get this corsendonk, i'd have to send you at least two. one to try...the second to enjoy and savor. i mean theres not much between trying...give me an address, and i won't put a real return addy. if it gets through, send me a few to an address i'll specify. i think you'd love this corsendonk...i am pissed i have no more. dark, yet medium to light bodied.....easy as hell to drink yet somewhat fruity and definitely yeasty tasting. tastes like an amazing belgian. i wish i had more but i don't.

i've had worse beers..but i'm not quite sure i understand the almost "cult" following of pbr.

woke up today with a high life light on my desk..looks like i took a couple swigs and went to sleep hah. and that is another reason i don't drink good beers all night...would hate to have woken up to some 4 dollar a bottle beer that is now flat and warm.

I've always thought PBR was pretty decent. It's the first beer I ever had since I'd swipe one or two from my mom's 12 pack and catch a buzz when I was a 90 pound 12 year old.

woke up plastered.............still feeling disgusting.........

anyways, last night started with a trip to the costco liquor store. they were actually handing out free samples, which was awesome. i got 2 shots of jagermeister and a couple of this tequilla....there was almost no need to buy a bottle of liquor because i got buzzed there. anyways, i was about to split a bottle of crown with my buddy, but the liquor salesman coerced us into purchasing weiser's whiskey from canadia (land of the ice niggers), which totally sucked. i hate salesmen. anyways, i drank a good 7 or so shots, chasing with DP and then went onto a house party.

the house party was pretty cool. i brought a porter for the host and was greeted by a shot of tequilla. my friend who listens to pretty much exclusively black metal and industrial music showed me a song he just made turning the 007 video game song into a rap beat and dropping his vocals a couple octaves. that shit was TIGHT NEGROW. i continued drinking until about 4 in the morning, finishing the night with 2 pints of guiness draft.

in conculsion, i feel like shit. dont think i'll drink for at least 2 days (my liver can use the rest). plus, i'ma go to mexico this spring break. yay for prostitutes and cheap alcohol.

Take a ferry over to Cozumel and drink with me! I'm leaving on Thursday!

had this beer the other day, but forgot to load up the picture to photobucket.

stoudt's pils german style pilsner
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9765.jpg

i haven't really bought any pilsners in a long time and normally don't as its not my favorite style of beer, but i came across this for sale in singles and the price wasn't too bad (considering most, if not all, of the stoudt's offerings are on the pricier side of things.) honestly i can't really remember exactly how it tastes. i think it was somewhat hoppy, though not as much as an ipa. it was very smooth and easy to drink though, also has a great pilsner flavor. i was surprised at how much i liked it. didn't like it so much as to say its a favorite, but i'd definitely drink this stuff again, and might even pick up some more at some point in the not too distant future.

this weekend will prove fairly slow for beer consumption..heading over to my parents house for the weekend for my dads birthday. i'm actually going to try to find a good beer store over there in tampa. they had a decent selection at the grocery store, but its just not the same as a real beer store.

didn't go too crazy tonight as i am trying to wake up pretty early tomorrow. i did pick up some of this lost coast brewing co 8 ball stout. it doesn't say 8 ball stout..but just a picture of the ball and then it says stout so there you have it. its an oatmeal stout to be more specific. from the side of the bottle: "this rich, robust stout is made with pale malted barley, oatmeal, roasted and chocolate malts, pacific northwest hops, crystal clear mountain water and ale yeast." the smell is malty. the taste is malty too...kinda roasty....maybe even a hint of yeast. a moderately light stout. somewhat bitter too. i like the imperials more than the oatmeal though. all in all...pretty good, but not something i am planning on picking up again. maybe if i get more into oatmeal stouts..but i would buy the samuel smiths os first. still want to try that st. ambroise oatmeal stout though!

That does sound like a good buzz, but driving on it is just plain moronic. Let me tell you from experience because I caused a big wreck all fucked up before, not because of lack of control but because I drove way too fast around an icy corner. My control actually led me to crank my wheel left-wards so the oncoming car would hit me on the passenger side (I was alone). Cars and buzzes are just a bad thing. Stay safe, bro.

never heard of that stuff before... http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/304/6715

hobgoblin is pretty good. if you can get other wychwood beer, i would try those too. regular grolsch is good for a macro brewery beer..but its not great compared to a lot of beers.

this weekend i was at my parents house and i went to the beer and liquor store on macdill afb which actually had a pretty damn good selection. i didn't have much cash on me and i couldn't use my debit or credit card since i don't have a valid military id anymore, so i was kinda limited to what i could get. they had some tempting beers..a few unibroue beers my beer store has never carried as far as i know. the two they had were don de dieu and the other i don't recognize on ba so i'm not sure what it was called...i know theres an apple in the picture on the box..and apple in the beer, but thats all i can really say. the store also had a few sam adams "brewmaster" or something like that a few kinds...cream stout and a pale ale. i had never seen those before so and they sounded good to me.

they had a lot of other shit too...but we ended up splitting some mcewan's ipa from scotland. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/342/911 i wasn't sure what to expect from a scottish ipa..first one i had ever heard of. it was alright...definitely one of my least favorite ipas ever. also the darkest ipa i've ever seen. its maltier than it is hoppy...thats all i can really remember. not much head. last time i drink this stuff..unless its my brother wound up buying a 4 pack of trois pistoles but he just took that with him to his house or apartment. i got a corked bottle of chimay red that i brought home. they haven't ever had the dubbel at my beer store, so i figured it would be worth bringing home. i haven't opened it yet though, wasn't around the house last night or tonight for the most part..probably open it up tomorrow.

mcewans ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/IMG_9887s.jpg

chimay premiere (red)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/IMG_9892s.jpg
very good stuff. its too bad they don't sell it at the beer store here. a belgian dubbel, 7% abv, i could only get it in these larger bottles and it was 7 or 8 bucks...no tax though cause it was on base ha.

i also figured out what the unibroue i couldn't find on ba was.. Éphémère
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/3523

today i bought some unibroue 15 http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22/28385 its a limited production beer, so if its good (i'm assuming it is.) then i'll be sure to buy more soon.

some avery brewing co white rascal http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30/9689 haven't had this or the 15 yet.

and a bottle of corsendonk brown ale...all out of 4 packs..and this was the last single left. i hope they get more.

edit i also got some blanche de chambly

bassb you ever check out unibroues website? http://www.unibroue.com/english.cfm its pretty cool. good descriptions even food pairing suggestions and a few recipes that use the beer.

I tried the Chimay Ale (blue bottle) for the first time yesterday. The beer was quite expensive and not as good as I expected. However, I read on beer advocate that it really just depends on the bottle. Fruity beers aren't really my forte so I probably won't buy this beer again in the near future.

I ended with a 12 pack of Highlife.

I need to do some crunches or some shit, this stomach is getting ridiculous.

I shall be getting shit faced for St. pattys day this weekend. I'm going back to north carolina to see all my old friends. I think there will be 2 different parties. So i'll have to hit them both up to see "everybody." There are a few people that won't be back which sucks. Oh well. Hell i think i might do some skating while i'm back too, wordddd.

What sucks is they'll probably get kegs of shitty beer. As i look at it, this is the drinking holiday for sure, so you should go out and buy the good shit. Probably will be bud light, maybe yungling if i'm "lucky." My former singer of my band says the most expensive beer he has drank is corona and Yeungling. How sad.... how sad..

trans - maybe that czechvar you bought was a bad/old batch? no clue since i haven't had it, but it seemed like it got an ok rating on beer advocate, unless that wasn't the same beer.

moe - did you pour all of the beer in your glass? or did you leave a little at the bottom? there is a bunch of yeast down there which you aren't supposed to pour into your glass, also why you can't drink it out of the bottle. if you did pour it right and still don't care for it..i guess to each their own. its not my favorite but its pretty good.

tm - ha worst case scenario, hit up the gas station on the way back towards the officers housing and get a 30 pack of high life for 10.50!! that was the shit when i lived there. i'd tell you to say hi to someone i know there..but not sure if anyone i know is still there.

not working tomorrow, but we're heading up to that car race tomorrow morning. probably get a few beers tonight to enjoy..then either pick up some irish beer before we head out..or just buy a couple cases of shitty beer at the race.

i dont know but i wont be getting czechvar again. as the reviews said, it did taste a little better after about 5 minutes of sitting in my glass. is it true that green bottle beers usually taste skunky due to light?

i've had some good beers in green bottles...but at the same time, those beers could easily go bad if not kept in the right conditions or sit around too long. i think bassb knows a bit more about all this than i do. i guess the brown bottles are the better than the green since they are darker. though there are beers that come in bottles that are not transparent at all, so those would be the best.

what honey porter did you get time? the only one i can think of really is the one i just recently had from shipyard brewing co. if thats what you got and you think that is a dark porter, you should try some other porters. porter is one of my favorite styles. hah ironically my favorite beer style listed on that beer advocate site is american stout, and all of my reviews (a whopping 3 i think) are for american porters.

good pale ales? sierra nevada, flying dog classic pale ale, dale's pale ale (in a can only though), great divide brewing co. (bc from now on, and pa is pale ale) fresh hop pa and also their denver pa, redpoint ale from avery bc, samuel smiths old brewery pa, wychwood scarecrow, theres tons...pale ale is a pretty popular style. theres even some belgian pale ales, but i haven't had too many.

I tried 6-7 shitty lagers while in Mexico...I'll post more about em later. I mostly drank Margaritas, Pina Coladas, tequila sunrise....drinking Sol, Corona or "XX Lager" was a major pass.

haha, I'm just glad to be in a country where good beer is available.

ouch! yea mexico is not exactly the land of good beer. i don't even think i was 21 when i was there so i didn't have anything to drink. i did see little kids sitting in magazine booths with tons of porn though.

tonight i got some good sheeeit.

left hand brewing co. warrior ipa
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9918.jpg
a good ipa...not great but just below great i think. the flavor just didn't seem as balanced as other american ipas i've had. the american ipa is my favorite one i'd say...even though the british started the style. the ones from across the pond just don't seem to be as hoppy as the ones over here. this one had a nice hoppy flavor, but it just seemed to be the single dominating flavor..not much else to it. good, but the large bottle i bought wasn't cheap...if they had it in 6 pack form for a reasonable price, i'd buy it again.

since st. pat day is coming up, i figured i'd bring some irish beer with me for the weekend.
wexford cream ale
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9920.jpg
good..not incredible either. creamy yes. nice thick head. only have seen this stuff in the can...and comes with a widget. my irish beer tasting is fairly limited...so far i've only had the major ones guinness, harp, and smithwicks. this one reminds me most of harp but is much creamier. its also been a while since i've had some harp though. i only had one can of wexford, but i'll have the rest this weekend.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9924.jpg
avery brewing co. 14'er esb

good shit...avery brewing co has some solid beers in my opinion. i've have to try the rogue brutal bitter again to see how they compare. not quite as dark as the picture thanks to the flash. honestly i'd have to have another one to give a decent review. i'm already kinda drunk and just sort of drank it without really thinking about what i was tasting. its smooth though and good..i can say that much.

cracked open the 15. its good fucking sheeit. though not my favorite from unibroue.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/IMG_9925.jpg
sweet and yeasty...almost a standard for unibroue heh...but smooth and good...also a standard i'd say. good head at first...fades a little. its actually a pale ale..wasn't quite expecting that but i am fine with that. smells yeastier than anything else..a hint of sweetness to it. its a hazy golden color. i think thats probably from yeast floating around....not sure if this is unfiltered or it was stirred up a little before i poured it...i hope its the first because theres still some left..i'm hoping it will settle a bit before i add to my glass. i will definitely buy some more of this as it is limited and i'll never be able to buy it again. maybe ill buy one to drink and one to age..or just age both or one..depends on my cash flow i guess ha

Fuck off, seriously. haha.

I guess Unibroue 17 was just released...but I'm sure you have a much better chance of ever trying it than I do.

I bought a 750ml bottle of Herradura tequila while in Mexico. I smelled the shit at the duty free shop and well...it actually didn't smell horrible. 100% blue agave so I'm looking forward to it. I was originally going to bring back a big bottle of Mezcal w/worm(s)...but decided tequila would probably go down MUCH smoother.

've never seen "smooth" and "tequila" in the same sentence before! I've never had the stuff myself, i've watched people drink it and it doesn't look fun!

you sure about 17? i googled it and nothing. i had to google the 15 to find it on BA! if you search unibroue 15 nothing comes up on their site..fucking morons. heh.

if 17 just came out..which sounds strange to me...then the beer i just noticed (though it was an inconspicuous label) is 2 years old and still on the shelf! it could've been there i don't know how long since until you really told me about unibroue i didn't really consider it. but i would figure the guys at the store would know of the 17 and they don't really sell aged beer....just beer you can age. ha i even talked to the owner about aging beers somewhere and selling pre aged beers..not a bad idea i think..

ha if the mail goes through..and you can't get this 15 or 17, maybe i can send one or two. the 15 i can only get in 750 ml bottles with a cork though.

Whoops, sorry..it was just being discussed.

http://beeradvocate.com/forum/read/958472

Godamnit graf, I don't want such good beer to send you stuff that is probably mediocre in comparison. Actually...I have a few Mexican beers unopened..

I don't have much experience with "fine" tequila, but it apparently exists. It can make for some for some interesting nights though, I've definitely experienced a few life or death moments while drinking too much of it. I advise using a shot glass instead of the whole bottle.

Plans for St. Patrick's Day? What beers are ye drinking?

I'm not sure...but your best bet is finding major distributors in your area. Perhaps join beeradvocate.com and post a thread? However, it's most likely not available.

Oh, about your myspace comment. I haven't had what you were talking about. Although from my experience, Pilsner's have not been my favourite style.

No, it's not legal to ship beer, although it can be done. I've read it can take several weeks/months to receive alcohol in the mail from Europe, if it even shows up. Graf and I are going to try a trade soon, so we'll let you know how that goes down.

Name a few popular American beer that are easy to find and are in bottles. Hopefully if you name them then they are good.

when i ordered the the absinthe, it took a little over 4 weeks. when it got here, the mailman... mail LADY *coughshitpiss* had to bring the package up to the house (very long driveway) and my stepdad said she seemed suspicious. bleh, i would have grabbed the package and told her to fuck off. she also needed a signature for arrival. anyway, haha, boooohoooo a minor imported alcohol waaaaaa!
