well bad news...no st. ambroise in florida. according to the guy that is almost always at the store, and the owner (who i just randomly met yesterday and had him show me some good stouts) they stopped selling st ambroise about 12 years ago. i also asked the owner if he knew anything about the laws pertaining to mailing beer to canada or receiving it, and he said its illegal for individuals. he did say that i could just have someone in buffalo or somewhere up there get the beer from canada then mail it from within the us..but that would take a third mter haha.

in the end, i bought a 6er of turbodog ...a dark ale that is pretty good, but not one of my favorites so far. a 4 pack of pranqster from north coast brewing co. its a belgian style ale..had one last night, not my preference, but i plan on saving the other three and trying one in a few months..then another in a year or something and the last one sooner or later depending on how the one before tasted. last one from the good beer store was a bottle of yeti imperial stout from great divide brewing co. was really good..but not my favorite imperial stout so far. they had the one i bought and another that was oak aged...should've, but didn't get that one. the one i bought was 5 bucks and the oak aged was 10..for a bottle the size of a rogue bomber. it was 9.5 %

other than that..being that basstendencies is chilling at our house..i also bought a 12 of high life light (since my beer belly is ever expanding!) just for something to continuously drink without my wallet trying to strangle me.

my head aches this morning.

You guys have fun with the mooses and snow! I'll be in Ohio which im dreading may god be good to me and allow it not to snow and allow it to be over 50 degress .

Gra as for this sending beer from country to country honestly who checks packages? Just send it in a small box........ . Also if you're nervous about it just write the return address wrong. They sent "Anthrax" through the mail didn't they?

Yeah, I figured it was illegal, but it does happen...I'm sure it's illegal because our countries aren't getting the fucking insane tax on booze. Cock munchers.

Yeah, if you know anyone in Maine I can drive 3 hours and meet them at the border.

If I had a full license and car. haha.

I've never had any Imperial Stout, a style I want to try very badly. It's almost impossible to buy in stores(actually..I don't think you can anywhere) and only two brewpubs carry it in Halifax, but I think both are seasonal. Good thing is I think it's the season they are in!

I just looked it up. PHEW you don't need a passport for travel to canada. The new legislation is by the 23rd of janurary all people FLYING from canada to america need a passport and by janurary 1st of 2008 you'll need a passport to drive into america. So phew we'll be good, cause its too late to get a passport now. It would be too close of a call.

pr0....big brother is looking, thats who! you wouldn't get in serious trouble..but you wouldn't get the beer either. since its crossing the international border, i imagine it gets subjected to a little more screening than regular mail. you wind up getting any beer the other day?

bass...ha i dont think i know anyone in maine. but a 3 hour drive is only a not sure how long walk! i know someone in nc thats really into beer..he might be able to get it, or at least point me in the right direction.

tmfreak...i guess it doesn't really matter, but you could pay extra and get your passport pretty fast. i don't remember how long it takes them though, and its over 100 bucks. i know because when mark and i went to italy, i had to get a new passport and i thought we were going on a certain date. turns out we went at a later date and i didn't need to pay the extra..but i did screw around and waited for the last minute. (if we left at the original time.)

If this was the case then my ol' buddie would have never been able to receive marijuana seeds through the mail .

This is the infamous Unibroue Trois Pistoles, supposedly one of the best brews made in Canada. Needless to say it took me about about an hour to finish it. At 9% abv, I wasn't feeling like chugging it. Strong Belgian Dark Ale.

Hahaha, I drink that about once a week. I drink Fin du Monde more, but that just has a better name (and costs less for the same strength).

Well la dee da Mr. CUNT! The local, expensive as balls specialty store also sells what you mentioned..NEXT TIME LOL

I dled Strange Brew and watched that last night. As a whole, it was pretty terrible. ESPECIALLY the fact that they were drinking Molson!

I'm really excited. Some guy on the Beer Advocate forums posted about my local microbrew "Propeller" making a Christmas Ale. It just came out and supposedly is a blend of their Honey Wheat Ale, London Porter, with added spices. Hopefully I'll be able to get there tonight or tomorrow to see if this is the case. LOLPUN.

rather than have a blonde or dark amber lager...i opted for their current seasonal offering, a belgian dubbel. ~7.4% ABV (over 7 but not 8) it was a pretty dark amber or mahogany color...and pretty good (i think this pranqster is a better belgian style ale) held a small lacy head though out its consumption. i should've tried their dark lager too..

overall, the food was good, but nothing fantastic..though i had the cheapest meal (angus cheeseburger and fries) and the beer was good, but expensive! one glass, not a pint glass either, was almost as much as my lunch!

i got an 18 mix pack of belgian beer from costco. twas a 6 pack of hoegaarden, a 6 pack of Leffe and a 6 pack of stella. i am currently drinkin the last hoegaarden in anticipation for the Dallas/New Orleans game. I hope Dallas kicks some major ass. Tony Romo gives me wood.

...which leads me to a question. I saw the Leffe was first brewed 1226 or some crazy year like that. What is the oldest beer still in production that you fucks know? I know Lowenbrau is from the 1300s.

I'm sure it's debatable to which is the oldest running brewery. But surely it's in Europe somewhere. Nonetheless, for the most part these brands aren't producing anywhere similar beer to when they began.

From North America - Provided by Wikipedia
"Alexander Keith's is a Canadian brewery founded in 1820 in Halifax, Nova Scotia making it one of the oldest commercial breweries in all of North America."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Keith's

Molson was founded in 1786, but not brewed in the same location like Keith's is..Keith's used to be my beer of choice, but I honestly can say I can barely stand it anymore. I have come to realize it is overrated, and definitely not an IPA, just an above average macro lager.

I've tried Leffe Blonde(I think it was..) and I thought it was terrible. Stella Artois was never my thing, but Hoegaarden is a real winner on my tastebuds. I love that shit.

Many newer microbrews in America and Canada completely pwn these old North American breweries..most of which over the time spends their money on marketing, rather than crafting a good tasting beer.

i have no clue..i agree with bass though..definitely european, and most likely is nothing like it was when they started making beer. people of today probably wouldn't much care for early beers...outside of nostolgia. i guess people still drink mead, but even the ingredients used to make it were processed by today's standards.

my first guess would've been the old monks, since many people back then probably didn't have the means to make their own beer...but i searched "oldest brewery" on google and came up with this: http://www.brauerei-weihenstephan.de/index.php they claim to be the oldest brewery in the world that is still producing beer. the label says 1040!!

That is probably true. At least within Europe. Mesopotamia supposedly brewed beer as well.

But the monks were highly educated, they could actually read and write unlike a lot of peasants several hundreds of years ago. Therefore with their knowledge, I'm sure they incorporated that into making fine brews.

Hell, I probably would of kept going to church if they served fine beer instead of cheap red wine at communion.

I tried the Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale last night in 500ml form. It tasted like a lot like apple juice, and oddly enough..some reviewers on BA agree. It was really good, for a Pale Ale...a beer that I find myself straying away from. It just a fairly solid fruity, mild taste. I don't know if I'd buy it again, seeing how it was $4 for the bottle. Very drinkable though. It's made by Black Sheep, but for me a million times more tolerable than Black Sheep Ale.(which they should of named "Black Sheep piss with molasses)

Word brotha. I have a friend who completely dismisses all British beers, yet he's a big pale ale fan and loved Sam Smith's Nut Brown. What a cunt, he doesn't make any sense. He doesn't understand the influence of British ales, obviously. The good news is that is slowly changing, as he was a lager drinker before and now appreciates many of the local Propeller and Garrison brews. He's still not a fan of the dark, or any Belgium's..but no one is perfect.

I'd like to drink more Belgium's, but usually they are pretty damn pricey. Although I'm still a Belgium noob, only having tried a few brands. My Rochefort 10 is still sitting in my room, hopefully it can still age properly in not so ideal cellar temperatures. My room is usually somewhat cold, and it's in a dark liquor bad so the light doesn't get at it.

I'm going to put basically every Rogue bomber the local specialty booze store has to offer on my Christmas list. They carry 18 varieties of Rouge.

Oh, btw, how much are Rogue 650ml where you guys are? I'm paying $7.99(tax, deposit incl.)..which is pretty fucking steep.

When I win the lottery, I want to pick up Dead Guy Ale, Chocolate Stout, Brutal Bitter, Half-a-Weizen. I haven't tried any of those..I've only tried the Shakespeare Stout and the Hazelnut Brown Nectar. The latter was definitely a fantastic ale, it's hard to believe it is beer..let alone 6.2% abv. The taste reminded me of those chocolate wafers you can buy in grocery stores, mixed with really smooth moka cream. Very rich and delicious.

the bombers are 5 bucks tops for me...the shakespeare stout is 4.50 everything i've had from rogue has been pretty fucking good! favorite is that shakespeare stout or dead guy. the dead guy is one of my favorite beers i've tried since going through the good beer store's stock. the brutal bitter is damn good as well! you'll definitely like them both to say the least. the chocolate stout was also very good, but i think i'd buy dga or bb again before that one. i've already bought several shakespeares though hah. tonight i picked up some of their monk madness ale which they just started carrying.

i also bought a 4 pack of old stock ale 2006 from north coast brewing co. i'm drinking one tonight, the rest are stashed in the back of my closet to hopefully be forgotten! someone i was asking about cellaring beers said this stuff is good for 10 years! probably crack open the first one about this time next year, then the next one in another couple years or so etc. i can definetly see what they mean when they say aging lets the flavor "mellow out" its very strong tasting! good, but not my preference really. and last, for something to have a few of tonight, i bought a 6 of saint bridget's porter made by great divide brewing co. it kicked ass...tasted like roasted hops/malts (whichever one they roast), a hint of cream and chocolate or coffee. i took a couple pics but i'll post them later when i upload them...still haven't opened up the rogue.

that sucks...yea apparently they don't sell it in the states anymore. this guy on another forum that knows a shitload more about beer than i do seems to like it a lot and trades with some people in canada. he said if he could get some he'd get some extra and we'd make a trade of beer or cash. so i'm hoping that works out for him!

heres pictures of the beer i bought today. i poured the porter differently than the rest of them so there is less head..not on purpose, just randomly. maybe i'll take another after pouring it the same way.

Yum, all of those beers look very good. Ok, so I'm only getting ripped off a few bucks on the Rogue bombers..it doesn't make feel quite as bad...well, I'm still a little jealous.

I recently "re-discovered" Guinness Draught last week, having not had one since I was 15. It's pretty good stuff, especially for being one of the most well known beers. But godamn is that shit watery! It coats your mouth, but while you are drinking it, it tastes and goes down like cold, filtered mineral water. Is this how an "Irish Stout" should taste? I want a stout with more balls to it! I want to try Imperial Stout!

Anyways, I had my last Sam Smith Pale Ale(probably will have to buy my third giftset next year to drink it again..) and I just cracked open a Garrison Nut Brown Ale. I had big expectations for this local brew but it failed to please me. II've tried Garrison's Raspberry Wheat Ale and Martello Stout and they were bang on. It's a little too carbonated and the aftertaste just tastes like bad alcohol.

In my dad's MDG/Harley Davidson glass. haha. A shitty glass for a sub-par beer.

A "serious guinness drinker" needs to drink other stouts!

And I never though a young lady would ever say "dunkel-wiessen"...Crazy!

And all beer belongs in a glass. Unless you are fishing.

lol. My grandmother was from Maine and my uncle(and his wife) had a greencard before America killed him! He went for a simple kneecap surgery in Brandon, FL in where he lived..err maybe the surgery was in Tampa..ANYWAYS, he was given too much pain medication and have a massive heart attack. He was 40. Over a million dollar lawsuit later and my aunt and cousins are back in NS. My dad had the exact same operation a few months before.

And if it wasn't for the UK, America and Canada would be even more fucked up.

Yeah, I knew you live(d) in Germany so I somewhat knew why your comment was relative. Some beers can be poured like you would pour a glass of water, it all depends on the carbonation and other aspects of the specific beer. I'm not a really big fan of many German beers, I've tried a bunch(forget most of their names)..even the one's with the higher reviews..I won't dismiss them all obviously, but the majority I've had taste like skunky lager..most of them were Pilsner or German lager, but that's when I was first getting into exotic beer a little over a year ago.

indeed i have! first tried it when i was in san antonio this summer for a few days. they just started selling it at our grocery store about a month or two ago, so i picked up a 6 pack. its pretty good stuff..but not amazing or anything. someone (here at mt i think) said to try their other beers. when i was in texas, i also tried fat tire. not sure if its a texas beer or not..but i can't get it here. it was very good..and am looking forward to trying some more next time i'm out in tx.

i actually am fond of very few pils. pils can be pretty gross but when its done right it is good. i have a list of beers i like on my fridge because i am picky i will get the name of the good pils later. but right now i am lazy.

hefeweissen i used to like alot but it got to bland fro me. my tatses matured a little and i find that i prefer really dark flavorful german beers instead. i like feeling like i have eaten a loaf of bread after i finish my beer hahaha. thank god i dont have a beer belly, i certainly should have one.

in a town a few hours away from here there is a monastery and you can go in and get a jug of beer thats fucking huge, like 3 gallons, and it is the best beer i have ever had. hands down. the only place to get it is at german monasteries and not too many of them do it. but OH MY GOD. its heaven. its really strong but it tastes so good. i dont really know if it has a nem we just call it monk beer. every few months we take a trip and go get some. it rules hard.

(by the way american beer sucks. i just cannot drink it. it tastes like water)

No, no, no. American Macro swill sucks. American Micro craft is delicious. I think(and many would agree) that the big Canadian brands are terrible as well, but we have great craft brew as say America.

Tr00 nigga! Same with the Molson, Labatt, Sleeman, etc., up here on planet Hoth.

Hell, I can only WISH we had more american craft imports. You can buy beer from fucking Thailand and other backward ass places, but the american craft selection is fairly limited.

I guess that's obviously do to the size of most craft breweries. Craft beer is just like underground metal; expensive, hard to find, but it can be worth all of the effort.

Currently drinking: Martson's Oyster Stout
The blurb on the bottle: "Marston's Oyster Stout is dark in colour with a mocha coloured head and a slightly fruity aroma with a hint of chocolate. It delivers a rich, smooth, full bodied flavour that is enjoyed as the ideal accompaniment to eating Oysters and other shellfish or just on its own."

My verdict: Rubbish. Over carbonated, head doesn't stay for long at all however. Tastes very watery, and not much like a stout. Leaves quite an aftertaste, but not of much, there's just something 'there' in your mouth.

Score-on-the-door: 3.5/10

i hope to fucking god not! i thought pepper beer sounded like a not so great idea. i hate seafood, so i'd stay clear of oyster because of personal taste anyway! if only really good nugget was cheap..i would throw a bunch into the mix next time around.

not trying anything new tonight..just having one last saint bridgets porter, and then some sierra nevada pale ale.

Yeah, I fucking hate seafood too...even though here we get some of the best seafood in the world. Fuck it.

"Another old style of stout once contained ground oyster shells, oyster meat or just oyster juice. The Oyster Stout is said to be a style inspired by the early 19th century London dock workers, whose staple diet was ... oysters and stout. At first, brewers used finely crushed oyster shells to filter their brews, but later, the adventurous slipped shucked shellfish into their stouts, and the style was born. Oyster Stouts are extremely rare these days, but you can make your own by adding the left over liquor from a shucked oyster and blending it with your favourite stout - a strong one is recommended."

Thanks Beeradvocate!

Yea, they did use to use oysters in some stout... Guinness and oysters is meant to be a very nice meal also... not to mention an aphrodisiac of mammoth proportions haha

All beer tastes like shit? Surely you haven't tried all beer..and probably haven't tried one micro brew. Not trying to be a dick, but don't hate the game, hate the playa.

I've been there too, but then you my find that it's not worth chugging horse piss.

Beer is compeltely aquired. I used to drink budWIESER and literally almost puke at the taste... Well then again it is budwiser.......hmmm.....

so i guess maybe its not COMPLETELY aquired haha.

But regardless now there are times where i put that first beer to my lips and its just like DAMN this taste so.. so good.

This man and i see eye to eye. I guess its possible to drink mixed drinks slowly.... and "social like" but its much easier with beer. Oh by the way the chick that i got with this weekend was drinking bud light at a more or less wine party. Woot.

Bud light to me is just fucking gross. I've finally fallen out of the stage of bud light, and since moved to miller light.

Milwaukee's Best Ice
Ketel One
Fighting Cock (it's not funny)
New Castle

those are the usual suspects for me, however 9 times out of 10 I go with the 30 pack of Best Ice because I'm a cheap bastige.

I tried a bottle of Marston's Pedigree last night - very much enjoyed it, nice fruity and aromatic hints to it. I was rather suprised, because I just bought some ale in a 4 for £5 deal, so I wasn't expecting anything very impressive.

hahaha quality. At least you didn't shit yourself. I know a guy who got really drunk and woke up, needed a shit and couldn't be arsed/couldn't walk to the toilet, so he just laid a juicy one on his carpet. That was fucking funny. I also knew another guy at school who took a shit in his kitchen bin when he was pissed.

haha..that would be funny to see.

Yeah, I seriously must of started throwing up while I was sleeping..because I remember it being like that. No idea how much I drank, a lot. 6-7 different styles of beers. I was fine until I took a shot of stevefrost's jager later in the night, and well..the 4-5 beers I had after that. I remember when I got into my apartment complex I was bouncing off the walls because I couldn't walk. lol.

Don't mix your beers with hard liquor.
I also bought a Westmalle Tripel which I'm going to try, or age, someday when my body isn't shaking from the effects of alcohol.
