stick weight

hi
i am new to this bord

i just bought some new pairs of sticks a few days ago and tryed them out today.
And i thought uargh this sticks feel way to light compared to my old sticks.
I have that feeling nearly everytime i buy new sticks but it was never that extreem .
normaly its just a little difference

Both sticks the old and the new ones have always been VicVirth B2
everytime i buy sticks i buy 3 pairs of them

Now i thought this has to be weight.
here are the results.

B2 Vich Firth 1st triple 69g 70g 65g
B2 Vic Firth 2nd tripple 75 g 77g 74g
B2 Vic Firth about new 59g 59g 77g

what the hell , how can the same type of sticks buyed in the same store
at the same date have 77g and 59g
thats such a hudge diffrence that those sticks have a complete diffrent feeling when you are playing them.

Is this normal that sticks vary this extreem or has Vic Firth reduced his stick weight and i just graped one old pair withh 77g and 2 new ones with 59 g

that is interesting data you have there but remember wood is not a 'dead' material, it absorbs moisture etc. could be one set of sticks had alot of water in them and one set have virtually no water in them and the rest are 'average'

I personally think you should sen your finding to vic firth themselves and ak about the differences in weight.

were they made out of the same wood? because vic firth makes sticks out of different woods in same sizes, and maple is lighter than hickory, which is lighter than oak.

That weight can not be water.

We're talking more than 15 cm^3 of water, into a pair of sticks with a volume of say 60-70 cm^3. Do you realize how much the wood would swell if that happened? Don't you think he would have said the heavier sticks were much thicker, and felt damp?

I'd say that it's some problem with the quality control, or some model change, or, as someone mentioned, another wood (though I think you would have seen that).

hmm that is true, I forgot about that but what if the whole weight wasn't water.....

but never mind I still think you should send it to vic firth and try and get some feed back.
