i wouldnt blind buy a rocktron pre... very particular sound imo... it doesnt sound like a mesa,marshall,peavey...... and some people hate amps that don't sound like a mesa marshall or peavey... if you get what i mean. it's a similar deal with crate.. i love the bv's but it sounds like a bv not a recto or 5150... so it's up to you if it's anygood.
the gainiac only does one sound... the clean is pathetic... and the distortion is only good for a simple metal dist.... seriously, that was the explanation given to me before i tried it... then i actually remember thinking "gawd, this is really how it is.".
the other ones are better... and some even have fx built in which is kinda nice. good alternative to line 6 pods
i'm having a go at some rocktron fx units... definately impressed.... the intellifex isnt cutting it, it only does so much, but what it does is great.. i'm going to trade it for an xpression.... if that wont cut it then i'll try the replifex.. then if that's a no go then it's back to the tc g-major.
rocktron makes high quality stuff though.. my hush super C is a warrior... she just needs a good home...

i often find that in theused market you can buy something for a steal used... and resale it for the same or even a lil more.... i sold my bogner/hafler triple giant for $10 more than i paid for it with shipping included. and my vtwin rack pre for $50 more than what i paid..
so i think some blind buys arent to bad... if you can just re-sell it and not lose money.
sometimes it's best for me... because you can't dime a 100w stack in a store, yet i can give it a try for a couple practices to see how i really like it.

I have a Rocktron Voodu Valve and it sounds pretty good. Kerry King uses one, but I don't know his presets. It has pre & post EQs & you can change your sound to morph like other amps. I have it hooked up to a Marshall & Nady 31 band EQ and it stomps. I was kind of disapointed in the way it sounded first, but after messing with the EQ controls on the Rocktron it sounds pretty good. It's a little expensive, $650, but it has lots of effects & tap delay. I can get ZZ Top's sound exactly & the 'Eruption' channel is dead on to. If you mess with it enough, you can get pretty close to lots of tones. I wouldn't say that it's crem de crem though.
