Cover Songs You Would Like to See
I would personally like to see Nile do The Thing That Should Not Be...it just seems too perfect...even though it'll probably never happen. I'd also like to see Cannibal Corpse cover something other that Possessed.

This is an interesting question. Hmm, let me think...
I'd like to see somebody do a death metal version of Dyer's Eve by Metallica. Cryptopsy would be good. Actually somebody should cover that whole album and release it - it would be good to hear it without the bass being omitted from the mix and with a better drummer.

I like the drums on AJFA...but I see your point. I wouldn't be suprised if the whole album has been covered before, but not if it was covered by a DM band. I'd also like to see someone cover all of Slayer's Reign In Blood (most definatly done before) just for the novelty of having them put it on a CD as a half an hour bonus track. By who I'm not sure, there are just too many posibilities (but Cannibal Corpse comes to mind, maybe that's just because for some unknown reason I've always equated them as the Slayer of DM).

I always had Vader down as the Slayer of DM. They do a pretty good cover of Raining Blood so I guess they could give the whole album a shot and it would turn out good. Actually, that'd be pretty cool - Reign In Blood with blast beats!

Interesting.
It would be idealistic for a Suffocation-clone band - such as Pyaemia, Beheaded or Disavowed, to cover a Suffocation album in its entirety.

Id like a Death Metal band to cover old rock songs, kinda like what SFU does with their graveyard classics. Always funny shit

How good would a DM cover of 'Beat It' be? The question though, is who would you pick to do it? I'd go for Fuck... I'm Dead. That would be the best cover ever.

Stupid thread... can't you work this into the cover songs thread? Fine, here is my pick. I'd love to be able to cover any Death song perfectly. Now shut up.

I want to see Hammerfall cover a black metal track, preferbaly one of Burzum, so that way once the vocalist is finished he will never be able to sing again... Because his vocal chords will be so ripped.
Or James Labrie
Although i have a sneaking susipicion Hammerfall disbanded...

I want somebody to cover any songs off Suffocation's Breeding the Spawn album. The riffs and solos on that album are SO brilliant, and to hear another band redo ANY of the songs (except the title track, which Suffo did a great job of on Pierced from Within) from that album with the great production most DM bands have today, that would be absolute tops. Especially-
Beginning of Sorrow
Marital Decimation
Prelude to Repulsion
Ornaments of Decrepancy
Other honorable mention would be some more Dark Angel covers. What few Dark Angel covers there have been seem to all be good. Oh, and some Forbidden covers. Some Vio-Lence covers would be nice. Testament and Exodus covers, maybe. Damn, thrash ruled.
EDIT: I really would love to see a death metal band do a Watchtower cover. Perhaps some Atheist or Cynic covers would be nice as well.

something hilarious (taken from the thread about the nu-metal bands getting interviewed about real metal) would be:
DevilDriver - Spheres Of Madness
Evanessence - Pounded Into Dust
also, doom doing grind and thrash covers
picture cathedral doing "severed head stoning"
even better, ozzy osbourne covering something by devolved

I like this trail of thought - now lets take this and run with it for a while.
How about Good Charlotte doing I am The Black Wizards by Emperor? Let's face it, they're half-way there already with that ridiculous goth make-up, all they'd need is to be true, grim, necro and frostbitten.
I'd love to hear Godsmack doing Angry Chair by Alice In Chains. Oh wait...
BoC: Yeah, that would be pretty good. I think they could do a pretty good Faith No More cover, too.

I always thought the lyrics would be perfect for a CC cover...I've always thought of them as some of the earlier/earliest (not sure) "gore" lyrics.

This isn't a cover of a Classic Rock song, but my school's band played a piece called Little fugue (Good song if you play tuba!). I would love to see this as an intro song to a dimmu borgir album, but with some metal added to it. Been trying to play something similar to it on guitar, but I don't knwo what chords to use. (Power Chords are all I can do )

Lyrical content doesn't factor in at all for me. I'm thinking more music. I do think you are right on that being one of the earliest songs with gore lyrics. By the way, I would refuse to listen to a Black Friday cover that didn't have the Good Mourning part in it. I don't listen to that song on Megadeth's live albums because they stopped playing the Good Mourning part, I damn sure wouldn't listen to another band under the same circumstances. The Good Mourning part completely MAKES that song. I really don't think CC would be able to pull of the Good Mourning part for me, they don't seem to do acoustic and I'm not sure if they can properly.
What do you think of CC doing a cover of another DM band? Like Morbid Angel or Death. No, that probable wouldn't work either. Somebody should cover Morbid Angel, though. Maybe the song "Dominate" or "Rebel Lands". That would kick too much ass.

I was hesitant to post that song but it was just an idea I had...your probably right, CC wouldn't be able to pull of Good Mourning without sounding out of place, thus taking away from the experience that is "Black Friday". Like you said, covering other DM bands wouldn't work, especially since most of the bands on the list would be closer to peers than influences. But I could see them playing parts of Black Friday or maybe a part or two of a MA or Death song just as a live thing, I wouldn't mind hearing that at a concert.

Would prefer Type-O Negative a la 'Paranoid'...
"Foxxxxxxyyyyyyyyyy..."
*Pete looks very upset*
"Laaaaaaaaaadyyyyy....."
*Pete wears a dress and cries*
etc.

Who do you think would be able to cover Morbid Angel's "Dominate"? I'd love to hear that. What Morbid Angel songs do you think would be good to cover, and by who? Do you think maybe Dying Fetus could do Morbid Angel? I'd love to hear that, at least to hear somebody try it. I could very easily see Cryptopsy doing a Suffocation or Morbid Angel cover.

just thought of one:
i would like to see someone covering an angel corpse song. dunno who, but any small time brutal band covering "smoldering in exile" or "when abyss winds return" would really rock.

Well, if we're into humiliation... I would like to hear any marginally talented metalcore band try to convincingly cover anything from Mastodon's Remission album.

BTBAM - Suicide Nation by At The Gates
Inflames - Rainbow In The Dark by Dio (great song)
Unearth - any of the old Inflames stuff would be great

1) Like you said, Cryptopsy could be a very possible candidate.
2) I think it would be cool for someone to cover "Evil Spells", probably Nile...I think it could work.
3) I could see DF doing MA, it might work, it might not...kinda hard to answer as of now as I'm not the most familiar with their (DF's) work.
