Theres on thing about amps, sure theres the good models like Marshall and Fender but really the speakers inside are what u want. For example i baught this 120 watt amp 2 speakers, the speakers were the exact same brand as marshal uses, yet the amps company was KUSTOM and my distortion is powerful. Sometimes u can get some great deals off amps u just have to keep an eye out.

its a fireball the basic half stack. my friend got a powerball ,the upgrade ,but its about the same distortion; the powrball just has 4 channels. i love the amp, i played it next to a mode four and there was just no comparison whatsoever... and my jackson soloist makes the distortion even better. its the best amp on the market actually. arch enemy uses them dummy borgir, iced earth, the list goes on and on and on.

Arch Enemy uses 5150's
Iced Earth uses a Custom-made Larry amp with Marshall JCM 900 cabinets
Dimmu Borgir uses Boss GX 700 preamp, Digitech preamp and Marshall 9200 poweramp

Hmm I think Mesa Boogies are the best amps ever. However I would'nt get one since they cost so much. Hmm I really prefer Marshals or Peavys(well just the 5150 and 5150 II) out of anything. I love them. Crates are OK.

crate and orange are nothing alike... crate's tube stuff is pretty awesome... but their s.s. isnt even close to being the best.
orange is for a more plexi style crunch with fat tone and not to much gain... though the rockerverb does get into metal territory

well, mesa is great stuff.... i some how do regret selling my mesa vtwin rack pre... maybe someday i'll buy a quad(owns the triaxis).
marshall and peavey are great too... i have a marshall jmp-1 pre and a peavey classic 50/50 and this setup sounds great.

what about jcms?? plexi's? jtm's? all the great marshalls....
wheres the orange?
mesa?
ashdown fallen angels?
and you need to specify the "tube rack setups" just the fact that it's tube and rackmountable doesnt mean it's going to sound amazing...

you mean dsl 100, they don't make a dsl 200. and tsl 100, not tsl 2000, both the dsl's and tsl's are jcm 2000's.
the mode four isnt exactly one of the better marshalls, but i guess it might be good enough to make the cut...
you're still missing the jmp, jtm, jcm 900, and jcm 600 ... plus a couple other less popular ones i'll let get by.
vht anything....
orange anything.....
mesa quad? vtwins? studio pre? recto pre? mark series? nomad? just about any mesa poweramp.
line 6 makes a vendetta and 127? i know they make a vetta.. and an hd147....
i could pick at you all day

Well I dont know much about Line 6. And my goal was not to get every single good amp. I just listed some of the better, more popular amps. I also only listed ones I have heard or tried.

with a good pedal to boost it, yeah.
thats what Zack Wylde does too. he uses DS-1's and his own pedal (yes he actually uses it) though his jcm800 is slightly modified.

i love my jmp-1.... simply love it... it's so warm and good.... now that i'm playing it through a tube poweramp i'm getting even more tonal options... as in i have this one setting on the o.d. 2 with cranked gain and the bass shift on that sounds alot like my old mesa vtwin rack pre... and another thats sounds kinda like a mesa mark II on the o.d. 1.... it has an even more "compressed" & "expanded"(expressed or compranded ) feel that makes the notes jump out of my fingers.
the jcm 2000's are also pretty sweet... i like em more than the other jcm's.
plexi's & jmp's are beautiful... and after hearing my buddies jtm 45.... man, i'm starting to want an older marshall for pure tone... i could get it hotroded and stuff to suit my needs in the gain department..
jcm 600's, 800's & 900's are great too... but nothing worth creaming myself over.
but marshall isnt exactly the best of what's out there.... but definately one of em...

wow, wait, you really like the jcm 2000's over the jcm 800/900's???
man, compared to the older jcm's I think they have no tone at all, I mean they can get pretty brutal, but its just not 'it' for me... a boosted JCM800 sounds way better, and the JCM900 picks up where the 800 left. I don't mind them, though they're distortion isn't exactly sharp and high-gain cutty like my Engl, its the marshall sound that those amps do have. not so tight, but classic in its own way, I respect that in those marshalls. and thats what I miss in the mode four, I played it several times and I still think its a piece of shit and terribly overpriced.
and well, about the preamps, you know how much I like non-true tube preamps
jmp's sound cool, great tone but only if you're in a rock and roll band or something. more of an amp to get when you're an old man and you're playing a relic strat.

yeh, but his JCM 800 isent modded. He buys used and has his amp tech look through the wiring and fix any possible problems.

he has a signature model JCM800
this one: http://www.musik-co.at/pics/zakkwylde.jpg
its pretty rare in stores, but I've seen him use it live.
don't know if he doesn't use regular JCM800's too, but I think he has those sig things on his DVD too.

the jcm 2000's just have more of a "me" sound i guess... no need for a boost... better marshall cleans, multi channels... and well, a good sound.
jcm 800s are nice... and i do prefer 900's over 800's, but the 2000 is more "it" for me.
the mode four is definatley over priced for a glorified avt... i seem to be able to get decent tones from them... but for $1,200 i feel sorry for anybody stupid enough to drop that much on that amp.

ever heard of the blood brothers? i love their sound.. they use amps like, plexi's, jmp's, jtm's but mostly orange amps(which have a really similar sound)..
i love the sweet sound of a dimed jtm 45 or ad30... it's just fat and smooth with that british crunch... and the dynamics are just awesome, strum soft and it's fairly clean, then start strumming through your strings and it's such a powerful sound.
not like "fuzzed out dripping with gain" kind of heavy, more of a "you can hear him strumming hard and getting into it" kind of heavy...
i dunno... i could alway get it hot rodded with another preamp tube stage or something for more gain, and maybe buy some higher outpur pu's, ect. and it'd be just lovely...

blood brothers ain't half bad.
they've got their 'own' sound, yeah. but I don't like the distortions on most amps mentioned, I like cutting edge distortion.
though if that kinda distortion is your type, orange's must be heaven on earth. even I liked their tone and I really didn't expect that....
anyways, the 2000's aren't bad, but I'm missing some authenticy in them, don't know what it is, but marshall doesn't seem to make real marshall sounding amps no more.

Hey guys,
I'm in the market for a marshall head, i'm looking at the 8100 and JCM2000's (TSL), I've read through the forums a bit but am still a tad unsure as to which to buy. I will be playing DM with the head almost exclusively, stuff like CC, Nile and maybe a bit of Hate Eternal. I just wanted to know which would be best to get the Nile kinda sound. I heard that Karl used a JCM on his new album?

the jcm 2000's should probably do it pretty well..... but i think a jcm 800 or jcm 900 with a proco rat in front of the drive channel might do it better.....

agreed.
I saw Nile twice and I know they used JCM's but I couldn't see which ones, I'm pretty sure on of those guys had a JCM800 with four inputs (sought after type) and he used a pedal, a TS9... though that was a while ago.
anyways, I'de prefer a JCM900 for deathmetal because of its tone, the jcm800 needs to be boosted with a pedal, but it sounds great. the JCM900 is allready a pretty high-gain amp, I'de prolly get the 900 out of the bunch, but thats just me.
tried any of those amps out yet? the TSL is more versatile and all, but IMO it has a completely different tone then the older JCM's

It sounds even better when u add a little eq, chorus and slight delay to it. I really suggest it if your not to rich like me lol
