Killswitch Engage
Picked up one of their cd's today.
It's heavy. Singing's great. Growling, yelling and singing.
Any of you guys like em?

End of Heartache is a great album. I like their new singer better. I think he sings better and the guitarist with the big sideburns is a really good screamer. The old singer was good too, considering he did both singing and screamings. I thought I wouldn't like the new album because the singer is black , nothing racist, black guys usually suck at metal. But he's actually really good at singing. H's a really white black guy.

I don't really know who they are, I'm guessing those guys in Suffocation. If so then I must say I like Suffocation. But note I said usually suck. Don't be so quick to jump to something.

I wasn't jumping to anything. Your comment about 'black guys usually sucking in metal' is based on a subjective opinion of whether you like a band or not. Skin colour is irrelevant in making such a judgement.

I wasn't talking about skin color. I meant blacks usually have a certain voice to them. I am not really making it out to be a racist type thing, just pointing out our differences when it comes to music.

As soon as you say "Black guys..." you are immediately bringing skin colour into the equation. Even if you where referring to vocal stylings, I still don't see how being black has an effect on that. Regional variations will affect it, ie, an Englishman will sound different to a New Yorker when doing cleaner vocals, but whether you are black or white still does not matter.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing you of racism, it's just that your comparisons between black and whites in metal don't have a tangible foundation.

Black, white... has very little to do. Black people have smokey voices in compairison to white people... sometimes.
Instrumentally, it doesn't matter. So I don't really see why you ever brought it up.

Damn, I didn't think anyone would make such a big deal about this. In a way yes both of you in a way explained the way I feel between blacks and whites when it comes to music, but you both missed what I was really saying. Blacks usually rap and in someways to me I feel that somehow they'll bring that formula to metal. Lets just stop this and get back to Killswitch.

Proof that skin color means nothing.

White people actually brought rap to "metal" to create:
"Rap-rock" or "Rap Metal". Unless you count "Body Count", which on the badass scale scored a high 13.7 out of 16.743.

Killswitch engage.... eh i don't like them, couldn't really explain why just not my thing i guess. and this was from before i knew the dude was black so it has nothing to do with that. i guess i've just been on more of a death, doom, and power metal kick of late. killswitch feels IMO closer to metalcore, which i'm not really into

I think they are pretty good. Their old singer was lame how he left and stuff. They were taking off and I forgot the reason why he left but it was pretty dumb. New singer is good.

He had a problem with his throat and couldn't continue with such an itinery as KsE's without permeating lasting damage.

You can see why. Just listen to his fucking screaming. That'd get hard on his throat.
Do they only have 2 albums?
alive or just breathing
the end of heartache

They're ok. There's alot worse out there, but sometimes the heavy verse/emo chorus/heavy verse/no solo/emo chorus formula gets to me/. Not horrible, but as for newer bands, I'll take Single Bullet Theory.

Killswitch did have an album before Alive Or Just Breathing but it consisted mainly of songs that later appeared on AOJB and one or two others that didn't make the cut. It's not really worth having if you already own AOJB.

Yeh it sure is gay how he had major troat problems and could no longer sing
Go strait from screaming to singing and not warming up your vocals is a bad thing.

Yeah I hate those fucking choruses. I prefer a band to either be brutal or melodic, I am rarely a fan of the combination. It can be OK if it's done well, but In my opinion it ruins KSE completely.

I agree with u there Danny, I really liked AOJB and there were some really nice choruses on there but i just cant get into the new album, just seems they couldnt find a middle ground and were either too melodic where it wasnt needed or vice versa.
There are better bands out there, take Heaven Shall Burn, Calliban, UnEarth and As I Lay Dying for example,

the only part on the new album i like is the 10 seconds where the old singer makes an appearance. the songs, drums and singing are much better on AOJB.

there are 7 songs on it that arent anywhere else, but the cd is only 20 minutes long with them 7.

I've been listening to both albums and I'm coming to the conclusion that I like AoJB better.
My last Serenade is an awesome fucking song.

I thought that My Last Serenade was the worst song on the album except for one of the 'filler' songs around the track 8 or 9 area. The intro is pretty good when the heavy bit kicks in but Numbered Days, Self Revolution, Fixation On The Darkness, Life To Lifeless and Alive Or Just Breathing are much better.

I really liked alive or just breathing, but like ScumSlayer I can't get into the new album. I think it's because the new singer always sings basically the same melody and after about 30 mins of the new album, I just feel like I've been listening to the same song over and over...
I agree that KsE's good but that there's better bands out there.

I dont like killswitch, i saw them on tv not too long ago, the guitar was average/decent, but the singing ruined it for me, along with 95% of everything else I see on tv. just not my style

I saw Killswitch over the summer in Atlanta. With Inflames and As I Lay Dying. Man that was the best show I ever saw. I love Killswitch but they are ok live. As I Lying Dying was great. Pure chaos every. But....Inflames was the most spectacular thing that has ever happened. By the time they were done I didn't care if I saw Killwitch or not. But for future references for you guys.... Go see them. If you don't like the music you can still have a good time just watching the guitarist. That dude is hilarious!

Maybe 3 years ago, but there's no way they could put on a live show with Howard Jones in the band.
