i'm pretty much into rack stuff n' all, so i was wondering if you did any thing of that sort... or custom midi controllers...
hmm... i was also thinking about buying a sovtek mig series head as a backup to my rack.... but i'd need a good tube drive box...
i was just wondering what you could or couldnt do.. or i guess would or wouldnt do...

you have an ada mp-1??? which mod are you looking at?
i suggest the noise mod,3.666 & 3tm... that setup owns, endless gain on tap. and low noise, yet still very warm and round sounding.

i dont have one yet, but i hear they go for like 100$-150$ on ebay, and a tubeworks power or peavey classic 50/50 or 30/30 would be pretty cheap as well, and sound pretty good.

yeh, they can be had for way cheap... they sound great stock imo... but they're soo easy to mod... so it's kinda like build-a-preamp for your specific needs... www.adadepot.com has tons of stuff available, like schematics and stuff.
really cool stuff.
i'd highly reccomend a good tube poweramp with it....
never heard of a 30/30 poweramp... but i can say i love the peavey classic 50/50. i just barely bought one... $250 shipped. what a steal... 100w of pure el84 tone.

actually i used to own a 50/50 style mosvalve/tubeworks poweramp... paid about $250 for it too... i couldnt say which is better... because i'm using a marshall jmp-1 now and back the i had a mesa vtwin.... so it wouldnt be a fair comparison...
just make sure its an all tube poweramp and not a "valve" type poweramp that only uses preamp tubes to warm a s.s. signal.
valve preamps are fine, but valve poweramps arent hot shit.
i can't remember what tubes it had though, i never even looked, this was like a year ago and i only had it for a couple months.

harmony central has the classified adds section... which rocks... way good deals are on there.
www.instrumentexchange.com & www.musicgoround.com are other cool places online to find really good deals on gear.
ebay is not the end all be all of buying used gear online. but it's still good.

well, i have an ibanez msp 1000 that i like alot... i'm selling it though along with my rockton hush super C .... i need to make space in my rack so i'm just getting a rack drawer with a couple nice pedals like a decimator, mxr compressor, boss ge-7, ect...
but it's a great 15 band graphic eq... with a compressor and a notch filter... so i reccomend one.... they go for pretty cheap. if you can find one that is.. because it's old analog ibanez rack gear which is very rare to come by.
otherwise....
Furman Q-602
Art 355
Alesis EQ 230
DOD 431
just a couple other affordable rack eq's i like...

well, a good midi one will probably cost you... alesis does the midi eq thing pretty well... maybe a parametric eq? or a rocktron pro q?....
and yes you can control multiple units via midi with one controller. as long as they're ment to work with midi.. for example i control my marshall jmp-1 and rocktron intellifex with the same midi controller.
so say my preamp is set for a simple heavy distortion and the intellifex is bypasses, then i press a button on the good ol' midibuddy and it changes presets on the jmp-1 to a clean preset of my choice and switches on a chorus, reverb, & delay from my intellifex. instantly with one button.
instead of tap the footswitch to switch to clean, then turn on a chorus pedal, then the delay pedal, then the reverb... all as quick as possible to try and not sound noticeable..
i call it tap dancing and i love how midi eliminates it.

yeah, that sounds cool, although i dont use effects, id like even more mids than i normally use (around 6-7, depends on the amp) for lead tone. so i just program it to switch to my lead tone on the mp-1 and switch to my lead eq on the mq-1 or whatever i get?

i just set it so i have presets paired... like for example, 1(on midi controller) is preset one on the jmp-1 and bypassed intellifex.... and then 2 is peset two on jmp-1 with a reverb on then intellifex. ect....
so you have a whole new world of versitility... in your case say button 1 on the midi controller is preset one on the mp-1 for a good rythem sound & preset one on the mq-1 with a certain eq for your preference.... then button 2 can switch to preset two on the mp-1 a more lead tone and preset 2 on the the mq-1 programmed to have a nice mid boost.
ect...
very useful stuff if you like to fine tune your rig like me.
