I think its incredible that you are actually forming a coverband.
While I don't know his settings, you could always email his mom on Emptywords.org. She might be able to find that out for you.

I've been wanting to do that forever (at least play Death covers with my band during gigs), but yeah, it takes good musicianship. Especially drums if you want to play any late material... The funniest songs to cover are on Spiritual Healing in my opinion, because of the lyrics. And the guitar parts are all quite simple.
Tell me if you ever record something !

my band has just covered Without judgement by death, it fuckin rocks. Anyways i wouldnt say their later stuffs that hard to learn, hasnt taken me long to learn the majority of symbolic, the only song which is really hard is perennial quest, the solo's too crazy.
Anyways, if ya want chucks tone, just listen to some death and use your ears to work it out. I would also suggest a guitar with a dimarzio x2n, and perhaps delay and chorus pedals.

meh, the amp is going to determine the "sound" more that the pickup usually....
but the x2n should do... it's got lots of gain though... to much output for my tastes, i need more versitility.

Yeah, I can believe that the x2n was the key to Chuck's sound. I use a totally different amp than the ones Chuck used, but I can still get a sound very reminiscent of his. The x2n is high output, but still has a super sweet tone and tons of versatility. Sure, it sucks for superclean tones, but playing anything else with even a modicum of gain... oh lord, what a sweet sound.

why does everyone always complain about the x2n clean tone? i can see what you mean if your just playing the x2n by it self but paird up with seymour 59 or dimarzio paf and it sounds fucking sweet as hell clean
oh and BTW which tone are you going for anyway? his tone changed a bit from say SBG to symbolic

Yeah, I plan on covering "The Philosopher" and eventually "Empty Words." I just know that I have to go all out on it. I could never let a Death song be disgraced.

dude... according to chuck in an interview... its a really good mid/high gain amp thats really clear, so i guess the x2n pushes it more to high gain territory.
