They have something like 11 or 12 songs just about finished musically but not lyrically. Right now American Recordings is switching distributers again so the band is going to wait to record the songs because if they did it now, the album would be sitting on the shelf for who knows how long.

Yeah, well a year or two ago, I read something Kerry said in an interview. And they were experimenting with 7 strings.
That is never. EVER. A good sign.

After 'Reign' no band would need to progress...
7 strings could be used and are a great idea, but they have been used by mostly a bunch of queers from what I have seen

I once had a five string guitar. Then I went out and bought a new set of strings and it was a 6 string guitar again.

It worked for Cannibal Corpse, they sound great now. I'm not sure why they always need to tune flat, though. Their tunings have been Eb, Db, and now Bb. Why?
On topic, I sure hope Slayer are working on a new album. That way I'll know whether or not their last 2 albums were a fluke or if they really DO suck now. It's too bad, too, Diabolus sounded promising from the first song and went to shit from there.

went off topic there for a bit.. yeah cant wait for slayers new album, god hates us all wasnt that bad really.. some good riffs and songs and stuff. and IMHO i dont think reign in blood was that legendary.. it was very just fast and thrasy, i think south of heaven was more of a classic.

I thought GHUA was awesome, some excellent riff's, original solos. Plus the whole it was released on 9/11 and the first track say flight 794 or whatever.. which was one o0f the hijacked planes... pretty weird shit.

MetalThrashingMad: What about the literal plethora of death and grind bands that use 7 strings?
I remember Kerry saying he wanted the album out by late April (in 2004), but admitted he was being a bit optimistic. He also said that he hoped Slayer wouldnt do Ozzfest because 'Slayer fans pay all that money for a 45 - 60 minute set.' As soon as they were annouced at Ozzfest the interview was taken down.
But at the time, the album sounded like it was in it's late stages. On a recent update I heard December/January.

It's easy to lose the faith when two mediocre albums and one shitty album are their last three releases.

Personally i think ever since Lombardo left Slayer has gotten worse and worse. but since Lombardos back it should be pretty kick ass. But im hearing this talk about 7 strings I dont really know how kick ass it will be. I just hope its not another God Hates us all.

I've heard Kerry talking about how the album will sound like GHUA with some SITA mixed in...I suppose that couldn't be TOO bad...as long as he doesn't write any more lyrics.

Of course it cant be bad, Seasons was a good album, and the riffs in GHUA were pretty chunky.. 7 strings?.. err i dont think slayer would do that.. well hopefully not.. if they did say they were gonna use 7 strings.. surely it was ment in a piss-take way?.. and who knows if they do use 7-ers on there new album, it could sound amazing, and start off a trend, hahahaha

I'd be open to the use of seven-strings...it doesn't, however, mean I'll like the results.

Slayer's notorious for delivering new albums somewhere about two to three years late. It will come, and when it does, you'll know, because suddenly every Slayer fan in town you didn't know existed will rush to the cooler CD store and buy it, then fill the parking lot with a bunch of modified car stereos playing the CD, staggered in time with when they actually bought it, and there will be beer and moshing and bleeding and people standing off to the side, calling the CD gay and cursing Kerry King for drugging the rest of the band and forcing us all to listen to his crappy, nu-metally, sell out crap. And they'll be wrong.
God Hates Us All was great. I can see why people don't like it, but it's good. Clearly, though, they're going in another direction, or have been, and they're getting better at it. It ain't gonna work for everybody, but that's why there are douchebags in the world.
And didn't they use the 7 strings on God Hates Us All? I remember hearing about it then, I figured it was for that record. Anyway, an extra string isn't the kiss of death, it's just doing what Iommi wished he could've done when he was forced to detune to C# because of Ozzy's range.

Six Feet Under could be worse (i.e. they could be Burzum), but they still suck. Pig Destroyer could be worse, but they still suck mustang cock.Mortician could be worse, but they still eat wildebeest jizz. God Hates Us All could have been worse, but it still ate donkey shit.

That's a good point, but cut the animal abuse. The last thing nomad needs is for the ALF to come in and bomb the shit out of everything because, goddammit, keeping a mustang and a wildebeest to suck off and eat the jizz of's a form of animal slavery, just like the Holocaust. Just like it, motherfucker!
Anyway, more on topic: the amount of time this record's taking should be a bad sign for anybody who disliked their last few albums, since I'm pretty sure that they only started writing and recording slowly more recently. If you're the type to take these things as a death knoll, well, it's a death knoll. Or maybe it just means that they, while writing, sat and listened to the music, though 'this eats donkey shit,' and did some re-writing. I'm cool with it going either way. I haven't been really into a Slayer album since Divine Intervention, but I'm still waiting to see how the direction they've been going in since Diabolus pans out. And I'll keep waiting, goddammit, because Slayer's earned my eternal suspended judgment until they do something either really great or fucking terrible.

The ALF can suck a bactrian camel's nasty ass. Fuck those guys. It's even worse because I'm an environmentalist, and people sometimes think that environmentalists are automatically invovled with stupid animal rights groups. I mean, sure, it's not nice to torture animals. I'll agree with that. Seriously, though, how many people torture animals? Seriously. I'm going to eat hamburgers until I die and the ALF can't stop me.
I bet the ALF would call me a vile murderer because kill the rats before I feed them to my snakes.
BTW, I was discussing Divine Intervention with JohnMansley a couple of months ago, and he said it was "criminally underrated", and I agree 100%. If the new album is half as good as Divine Intervention it will be money worth spent. If it was twice as good as God Hates Us All it will still only be mediocre.

They'd hate you for having snakes. They're the reason security was tight at the lab I worked in, and we barely had anything to do with animal research.
I don't know why Divine Intervention gets overlooked so often. It's the best record in the world for driving around a city. It also kicks ass at home. It kicks ass everywhere. I'm even listening to it now.

Very true, Chris (and PST). Divine Intervention was the last album comprising entirely of thrash that Slayer put out.

You know, if you cunts keep appreciating it in public, it won't be underrated. People will see you! People will know! Take that shit to the private messages, gentlemen.

I don't know why Divine Intervention gets overlooked so often. It's the best record in the world for driving around a city. It also kicks ass at home. It kicks ass everywhere. I'm even listening to it now.

Yes, you are right, they would hate me for a being an imperialistic macho male who heartlessly imprisons snakes that belong in the wild. It wouldn't really matter to them that the only snakes I own are snakes that were rescued from the neglect of poor owners, and that I had to nurse the fuckers back to health from life-threatening illnesses, parasites, and other conditions.
The fact is that I imprison snakes without their consent.
I'm sure what they'd want me to do is take the snakes out and release them into the woods of Massachusetts, even though they are African snakes and wouldn't survive the winter, and even if they did, they could wreak havoc on the natural ecosystem up here. Facts be damned, those animal rights activists have my number now! God, I hate them.
As for Divine Intervention, I listen to it in public frequently (I burned it onto a CD with Reign in Blood, so I listen to both), but I don't have a CD player in my car, so I listen to it on my diskman. I suppose most other people don't really hear it. Maybe I should buy a shirt with the Divine Intervention logo on it when I get the money.

Me and a friend put on Dittohead full blast in front of our school on the last day of school and drove around headbanging for about 2 minutes before the assistant principal came out and stopped us...yeah, we're that mature.

Chris, that CD sounds like potentially the coolest thing I'd ever hear. You should get one of those discman converters.
One of the ladies at the lab - for some reason all my coworkers were female, except for one, who was gay - had a snake at home. She kept her mice in the freezers at work. Or maybe they were mice from the lab. I have no idea if we had mice at the lab. We kept extracting the DNA from their tails, but I'm pretty sure they came from somewhere else. But maybe not. Maybe they were her snake supply.
And remember, you're not just an imperialistic macho male. You're a nazi too. Jeff Hanneman would write songs about you. That's how bad you are. Especially since you eat meat. That, plus the imprisoning helpless snakes, puts you somewhere around Mengele on the evil scale.

Yes, and when you factor that as a child I would often crush ants outside with my action figures, I'm already a serial murderer. I am a sadistic torturer who once, as a child, TORE THE WINGS OFF AN INNOCENT FLY. If I had any decency, I would terminate my malevolent existence- this very instant- for the greater good of mankind. I am an abomination that could only have emanated from the pits of hell, where I surely was spawned via a tryst between Satan and either Hitler, Stalin, or Chhit Chhoeun.

They have something like 11 or 12 songs just about finished musically but not lyrically. Right now American Recordings is switching distributers again so the band is going to wait to record the songs because if they did it now, the album would be sitting on the shelf for who knows how long.

They are excellent if by your definition of excellent you mean "down-tuned, repetitive, power-chord fest with no emotion or technicality involved at all." There's only one way I can like a band if they are not technically proficient, and that's if their music exhibits a lot of emotion. I guess if other people like them, that's their business, but personally, I can't like them. They remind me of Mortician, too, and Mortician are my least favorite death metal band, ever.

never forsake
isnt it interesting that if you take a closer look at who did which song youll find that all the best songs slayer have ever made (e.g. angel of death, reign in blood, south of heaven, mandatory suicide, war ensemble, dead skin, seasons, bitter peace - you can go on with the list) are written by hanneman with araya's lyrics most of the time. second thing is that each of the duo JH-KK tend to screw around on every other album, starting with RIB (mostly written by hanneman) through SOH (king) SITA (JH) Divine (KK) diabolus (JH) - which i think was a successful album even though it sounded a bit too HC at first - and GHUA (KK but still with the few best songs written by JH) we can predict how the next album should be. i think you see the point. i like king's brain-ripping songs but only when there are like about 4 on an album, actually i think KK is not too musical, i also think he's not too smart either (read lyrics). so im lookin forward to hear some really good moody shit (thx 2 JH & TA) with some fuckin great lombardos chops along with a few kerry's punk-aggressive riffs.
thats gotta be a good album. and music too cause its not only about headbanging or maybe im just too old
if not, well... whatever
peace!!!

Anyway, SlayeR died when they lost Dave Lombardo the first time. The other drummers just weren't fast enough to keep up. It seems like when Lombardo left they slowed down.
Oh yeah, I hear Kerry King has picked up a seven-string for the new album. Now, there is nothing wrong with this. After all, he says he's just trying to add something to the music. To give it a heavier or deeper sound, right?...Well, what he says is an addition to his music is actually a sign of one thing plain and simple. The guitarists of SlayeR are running out of ideas. After all, didn't someone already mention it's been three years and no album?
They should just quit and be remembered as the kick ass SlayeR they were and not abunch of ######' sell-out's like Metallica. When a music writer runs out of idea's, the music will suck.
If SlayeR lives, then I'm wrong and you guys are right. Just remember that all bands eventually #### out. If not now, it will happen eventually...
|
You really need to start conducting yourself better. It's one thing to say several stupid or insulting things after you've already proven yourself to be an intelligent contributor. It's completely different when that's the first impression you give people
Slayer did not die when Dave Lombardo left, Divine Intervention was one of their best albums, just behind Reign and Seasons if you ask me. By the way, the fact that their last album sucked and the album before that was mediocre does not mean Slayer sold out. Maybe they did, I don't know, neither do you, but you can't take it from such little evidence. Anthrax suck now, but they never sold out, and I still respect them for that.
Stop it with the ####. If you want to curse, fucking curse. Either swear or don't swear at all, don't give halfassed censored shit. You wouldn't believe how bad it makes you look and badly everyone will hate you if you keep doing it. You're probably likely to say something derogatory about me for saying this to you, but for the record, I'm giving you advice on how not to get flamed right off the fucking forum. Whether or not you choose to adhere to it is completely your business.

Well this will be the first Slayer album to be released around the same time I started listening to metal, including all the current releases. When GHUA came out, I was listening to the worst commercial musical garbage ever........EVER!!!
Therefore, I will have hope for the next album, especially with Lombardo's return. I expect this album to bomb, especially if it recieves MTV airplay, but it's not like I'll know. Their are many important, strict and even childish clauses in some bands contracts, so we should keep this in mind.
But with all the potentially 'poor' albums Slayer may have come out with, I believe this band truely loves their music, and in the end, that's what it really comes down to.
