People need to stop asking for advice with writing. If you take everybody else's advice, then you are not really being creative, which undermines the purpose of writing music. Just jam by yourself for a while until you get into a groove, whatever comes to you should be good enough, man.

Mainly i like melodic black and death like arch enemy or children of bodom but irecently got into dissection, borknagar, mercyful fate, Emperor.
Im really more of a thrash metal kind of person but i love incorperating thrash into black metal songs

If you like thrash into black metal check Aura Noir.
For raw black metal listen to some Immortal(Battles In
The North or Pure Holocaust).
For Symphonic black check
Limbonic Art(Moon In the Scorpio) or Arcturus(Aspera
Hiems Symphonia).
As for playing black metal
learn some songs from
the bands you like.

If someone would have listened to Black Metal for a long time, the one would have noticed WHY christianity isn't a part of it (expection is religious Black Metal, where its creators (ideology) believe to the christian god and christianity, but are on satan's side). And this affects to the listening, if your views are totally opposite against Black Metal ones, the music could easily be hard to listen. Though some people listen to Black Metal just for an entertaiment, without caring about it's ideologies. And if you're keeping Black Metal just another music style within other, and without taking it seriously, the music too could be quite hard to make as a good (not to speak of the lyrics..), though this is only my point of view about this.

And many people still think that Bodom is Black/Death metal, because they haven't got well enough into the genre (though bodom has some influences from those genres, for example the theme and vocals). Foolishly, mainstream nowadays sees that music with screaming/growling vocals is just Black or Death Metal (if the lyrics are satanistic it is Black Metal), and if the music is fast it is Speed Metal and so on (This announces that metal is still very underground music, it definitely hasn't got into such position as it had on 80's (nowadays there is too many other music genres?)).

To the topic: Black metal riffs should be dark and cold, and not very fast (imo). And if you want to construct a song, make some simple riffs (not many), do the drumming in the harmony within them (monotonous blastbeat is popular, but depents on what kind of riffs/melodies you are making of) and typical BM vocals (screaming), those works just fine together. Good Black Metal is usually very simple and is built from simple components. Also musical talents aren't really necessary in Black Metal (though something is always needed), if you are well enough passioned to create the art of Black Metal (the function of channeling ideology into music), just listen to Xasthur.

if u want ideas for black metal type riffs listen to ackercocke, darkthrone (especially under a funeral moon), immortal and early cof stuff. I m in a melodic black metal band, and most of the songs i create are usually based on a theme, and then i just go with the flow and create the song.

Well, from my understanding, you seem to judge black metal ONLY by its looks. I've yet to see a constructive critical comment about black metal other than the usual bullshit about how most of its creators choose to dress. Now, back on topic. Symphonic black should have many parts where riffs are slower, and not tremelo picked (as BoC said). The keyboard should almost overlap the guitar. Harmony between keyboard and guitar is probably not easy, but if you get it to harmonize, it'll sound great.

to me, blakk metal sounds similar to punk, as in lots of fast strummed powerchords. in blakk theres also alot of trem pikked single note lines. the guitar tones got to be thin and trebly and mostly standard tune or Eb, or D. guitars also need to be lost in a wall of distortion.

on a side note, i prefer death/grind, but i kan appreciate blakk koz its got a touch of existentialism that most genres ignore. also, there is the national socialist and "organic" or natural blakk metal which are just as valid as "pure" or antiXkristian blakk, as the subtext to all blakk seems to be existential thought or konsciousness. konsidering this, though hard to accept, is Xristian blakk, as we all know existential philosophy is more or less a strong despise of anything that is not individual. this is why i believe blakk metal bands and the genre itself attrakts so little support as it is highly personalized.
as for symphonik blakk with its mass appeal and generik sound, its just cheesegrater-power-pop-rokk-metal.
