When a fret is too high the fret(s) behind it doesnt play properly. It doesnt give the full sound it should. It sounds dead. When you play the fret behind the high one, the string hits the high fret causing the dead note. This also is refered to as 'fret buzz' but dead frets primarly happen on the high strings.

Its also the sound that led me to fuck around with my second guitar trying to fix the problem and fucking the rest of it up...damn I miss that guitar, even thought I got it replaced for free.

you mean squires??
Fender has decent quality control and i highly doubt they would have fret porblems.. even the mexican made ones.

I'll bet 50 bucks he was asking about dead notes that you make on purpose by muting the strings, and fret buzz and fender quality control never crossed his mind in making this topic. any takers?

I like dead notes, and when I get bored and fuck around I try to combine them with harmonics. It's badass. Seriously, just try to combine a dead note and a harmonic. You might like it.

purposely done dead notes you do by resting your hand on the string and hitting it.

Your definition sounds more like palm muting to me. Could you explain your difference between the two? I'm just curious.
