Do I need to get a eqaulizer pedal ?
Do I need to get a eqaulizer pedal ?
The other guitarist and I want to have perfect tone so we should probally both get eqaulizers then right ?
P.S.
I saw "Lamb of God" last week......they kicked ass !! I talked to the lead singer and told him that I did not like woss metal like "Hatebreed" and then he got mad and said those were his boys.
I was pretty damn funny.

what kind of amps do you have and what is your idea of "perfect tone"?
sonic maximizers, graphic eq's, and parametric eq's are all great tools for fine tuning your rig.... but the amp it's self still needs to be as close to perfect first...

mute the strings with one of your hands, that should stop it, or turn the volume knob right down to nothing
even though thats only a tempory solution to the problem

Equalizer I think is only really needed for recording. I'm sure you could find some nice sound but the amp itself usually sounds good before mics hit it. Mics are what you should focus on because without a decent mic that captures what your amp truly sounds like I think an equalizer is a little pointless. I supposely have a nice tone, or so I've been told, but even recording makes it sounds a bit to neutral (0bass, 0middle, 0tremble) so I still have to tweak in after recording. When I'm not record no need to because people here the true sound of the amp. So I'd focus on the amp and tweak the sound for like 1hr until you find something you really enjoy.
P.S. That was probably some pointless ramble that doesn't even answer your question at all.

i use mine live.... it's hella helpfull on the fly analog eq'ing... because every venue has a different sound.
as for mic'ing.... i for live shows and home recording i usually just give a speaker emulated out from my jmp-1... it's harder for a sound guy to fuck that up no mic's or anything. my guitarist still mic's his shit, but he'd buying a DI box or something to be like me.
in a studio though, there is nothing like the sound of a dimed tube amp running through a good cab, into a $1,000 mic(all in a small foam padded room), into a $30,000 mixer, racks of cool shit, and then a computer with a $74,000 protools setup...
if you can't get a good sound out of that then you simply must not know what you're doing......
that's what the studio my band is going through for our up coming E.P.

Eqs help alot but they can be pricy if you want a good one.
But its all worth it for the perfect tone

not really.... the 15 band graphic eq on my msp 1000 is great.... plus it has a compressor and a notch filter... i only paid $50 for it....
maybe if you want a 30 band stereo eq that's digital and has midi.... but it doesnt have to be to pricey at all....

"the best" is always different from one person to another.... and it never HAS to cost more... you just got to know what you're doing....
