Hey Def, Liverpool are supposed to be checking out Dirk Kuijt. I saw that he scored for Holland last night but is he any good?

Yes he is, together with Kalou and Saidi, he's the best Feyenoord has at the moment! I don't think he's going anywhere though, he wants to stay in Holland for a while but who knows in the future. He has not had a lucky season, Feyenoord was shit this year and well even in our national team he didn't get too lucky (with all the young talent coming on and shit) I don't think Feyenoord will let him go unless someone comes along with a BIG bag of money. It's a shame that allways happens to the top players over here though, theres just not enough money circulating in our competition to keep talent, teams from the UK, Spain and Italy basically buy us dry every year.

his game for Holland yesterday was pretty good, allthough Robben really stole the show, RVN wasn't it shape at all and Van Persie missed an incredible chance, haha

still, tenth game for Van Basten and ten games without losing, not bad! 3 new players for Holland in this game, Robin Van Persie (arsenal), Barry Opdam (AZ) and Theo Lucius (PSV) van Basten keeps on bringing new ones in, it's pretty cool to see there's enough talent and we're finally playing with some decent Wingers, its how the Dutch national team played in the old days.

the game against romania wasn't good though, van Basten was pretty dissapointed even after winning, theres a lot of work for him left but hey, there where some cool moments, especially between RVN and Robben.

Cheers for the info!

What do you think about Van der Vaart? It was only last year we were talking about him possibly going to Barcelona and now he's off to Wolfsburg!

Van der Vaart, well he's had a terrible season! he really wanted to get away from Ajax because of the critique he got, so he ran off to Germany, fans of ajax won't take it lightly and in general people think it was a lame thing to do. I don't know what to think of it, he was horrible in 'Oranje' yesterday, standing in for Van Bommel but he didn't do much good, I think he needs some time to get back in shape and away from the press (maybe thats why he's off to Germany!)

Van Bommel is off to Barca now and I'm sure he'll do really well, after winning the double in Holland with PSV (national title and the Amstel cup -its like the FA cup-)

keep me posted on Kuijt if you hear some more news, I saw Mark Wotte yesterday, he's the tech-director of Feyenoord and he said there's no way they're selling Kuijt unless someone brings them a shitload of money, next to him was Van Gaal, the new AZ coach and he was joking about trading in 3 AZ players for Kuijt, haha

I think the fee that was being talked about for Kuijt was £5million which is around 7million Euros. From what you've said I don't think this will be enough to get him so maybe Liverpool will be looking elsewhere.

Van Bommel will do well at Barca - he was awesome against Milan. I think there has been speculation over him moving every year for the past 4 years! Arsenal were interested a while back I think.

There was a great story in one newspaper on Saturday regarding Raul moving to Liverpool. Apparantly he's been to Liverpool on four occasions and on one he went to the training ground. He's probably just visiting Morientes but if he's not entirely happy at the Bernabeu then who knows? It would certainly be a major shock if he left Madrid.

yeah, but it would be pretty cool, eh! though I don't think Real will let anyone go hehe

Van Bommel was pretty good against Milan, I agree, it's kinda lame they where gutted in the last minute but hey, that's soccer, he promised to come back to PSV though, which is pretty cool. He went to Barca because of Rijkaard, he's the one responsible for all the dutchies that came and went there (along with Cruyff) 'Gio' Van Bronckhorst is one of the most recent ones, he's also a base player for our national team, he allways plays a stable game.

oh by the way, did you see Van Der Sar pull that trick in the extra time? haha, coming out of the goal and playing out the Romanian striker 'Robben' style, that was pretty neat

ah and about Kuijt and the transfer money, I think they asked 10 mln euro's for Opdam to go to Porto, so I hardly think Kuijt will move his ass anywhere for 7

(opdam is the AZ player that debuted in the national team as defender yesterday, he was flawless, which I couldn't say about Landzaat!)

Man Utd sign keeper Van der Sar

Van der Sar made more than 150 appearances for Fulham
Manchester United have signed Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar from Fulham for an undisclosed fee.
The 34-year-old has agreed a two-year deal and will join the club on 1 July, providing he passes a medical.

United have been looking for a new goalkeeper after releasing Roy Carroll at the end of May.

Van der Sar, who has 95 international caps, moved to Fulham from Juventus for £5m in August 2001 and went on to make 153 appearances for the Cottagers.

He was linked with a move to United in January but agreed a contract extension with Fulham until summer 2006 instead.

We will be very solid at the back now

From SD
Have your say on 606

The Dutchman is United's first signing since the club's takeover by Malcolm Glazer and he is likely to join the squad for July's tour of the Far East.

He will become the latest in a long line of keepers to have been tried by manager Sir Alex Ferguson since the loss of Peter Schmeichel in 1999.

Mark Bosnich, Massimo Taibi, Raimond van der Gouw, Fabien Barthez and Carroll have all come and gone while Ricardo's contract expires this summer.

United's other keeper, American Tim Howard, agreed a new contract until 2009 in May.

ah, hope he does as good as in the Dutch national team, the guy hasn't been passed in the last 5 matches and played superb yesterday, the next match against Finland will be his 100th match for the national team! (shame I'm playing a gig with The Bled on wednesday so I have to miss the match... will record it though)

I always wondered why he signed for Fulham, I mean he wasn't exactly at the stage in his career where you would find him signing for "lower" clubs. I just get the feeling he's signed for a club like United a little late in his career.....but that might just be me...

Well, judging by the 2 year contract he was offered it's pretty obvious that United only signed him as a stopgap. I think United were interested just before he signed for Juventus and again when he signed for Fulham (but they had Barthez at this time).

yup, exactly, they where intrested twice, but manu never kept keepers long after Schmeichel (sp?)

he allways does superb in the national team but I don't think he's that good in Fulham, or is he? Over here the two other Dutch keepers for the national team never get any playtime, on wednesday he's playing his 100th Dutch game

Yeah, he plays well for Fulham - doesn't make many mistakes. He's definitely one of the best in the Premiership.

Does Westerveld still get in the Dutch squad? He was great! I was disappointed when he left Liverpool.

Haha, he was in it for a few months, but we have better then him man, have you heard of 'Stekelenburg? Stekelenburg is the keeper for the future of the Dutch squad, you can count on that! Another guy to keep your eyes on is Vonk, who's keeping for Ajax now, he's pretty old but he's been playing great this year (though the rest of Ajax sucked)

Van Der Sar is allways solid, the last couple of games he was just awesome, he went outta the goal twice to outplay an attacker, he did it against Romania, against Finland and against Quick Boys (Dutch team that lost with 13-0 haha)

thats the big plus Van der Sar has, he's not only a good keeper, he used to play on the field too, I heard he even made it in young-Ajax before he started beeing a Goalie! It'll be great to see him with ManU, I wonder if he can handle it!

I definately think they can only use him for like 2 yrs., he's getting old. Good thing is that his age doesn't seem to be affecting him.

He's 34 but I think he could last a further 2 years (on top of the 2 he's signed for) at the very least in top flight football. I think United will end up giving him another contract after this one expires - I don't think they'll find anyone better.

I agree, I think they've done well but what I don't get is why he didn't move to a topclub earlier, he had offers last year too and when he left Juve it was at a bad time. I don't even remember why he left?

keepers usually last a longer time then field players, Van der Sar will probably be on a high level for a couple more years, there's a whole load of new young Dutch keepers waiting to be his follow up in the Dutch squad, loads of talent...

hah, who remember Piet Schrijvers ('De Beer van de Meer -> the Meer's Bear, the Meer was the old Ajax stadium)

Piet Schrijvers was a legend, 64 europacup games, 2WC's, 2EC's, playing 623 games in the league and stopping 86 penatly's, playing for ajax 9 years in a row, 5x national champs and 3x cupwinner....

He's known as the least passed keeper in Dutch history, with 10 goals in 34 matches.

Hah, what a legend that man was! Sometimes these kinda stories just pop up and I have to search the net again, haha

Roy Carroll was always mediocre, but what the hell happened to Tim Howard haha? Last year he was their starting keeper, and I really have to say that for a short time, he was one of the best at the time in the Premiership. Then all those mistakes, and he'll probably be leaving now. So good thing Van Der Saar's come in cuz let's just say he's better than...........*AHEM Bartez

Haha, the earliest Dutch 'keeper I can remember is Hans van Breukelen (?) from Italia '90!

Ah, van Breukelen, yeah, he was ace, one of the top dutch keepers!

anyway, Van der Sar kept his clean sheet for 6 matches now, we won with 4-0 against Finland, the match was pretty lame except for the last 15 minutes, haha those goals owned, RVN scored two goals, one was cancelled because it was offside (but it wasn't)

but, Van Basten did great, his first 11 games are without a loss and we're first in poule no. 1!

Van Der Sar will be starting at the start of the season no doubt, I don't reject his ability, I just regret his signing for a club like Fulham at that stage in his career. At his height he was one of the most underated-keepers of his time(96/97), plus I don't know whether he was with Ajax or Juventus during the 96 ECC final but he was frickin' amazing. He is always i person I sign straight away on CM 03-04....

Ha, I spelt it right! When I was a kid playing in goal I always pretended to be van Breukelen or Goycoechea (from Argentina) due to the World Cup. Don't know why - I guess Peter Shilton was too fat and old!

Mexico. Greece are playing Japan as well, but the Brazil-Mexico game should be decent.

National teams that won the world cup,the european cup ,the asian cup
the african cup, copa america play in the Conf. Cup

We(Greece) lost by Brazil 3-0 the other day.
It's an OK score,I thought that if we conceded less than
4 it would be allright.Funny thing is that some people here
were dissapointed.

meh, the confed cup is pretty lame if you ask me.. the idea is good I guess but its like not every team is playing at its full potential.

greece was wank against japan, haha! how many chances can they give away, pff...

does anyone follow the WC under 20? well thats something worth looking at!!!

Brasil won with 1-0 yesterday but they only won by a little luck, against China. Holland is the group winner in its group, Argentinia played some cool games and Germany is through too (don't ask how, haha if anyone saw that match it was a total laugh)

I'm probably going to the finals too, odds are Holland will be in it, or at least the semi-finals, but we'll see. I hope the final will be Holland - Brasil or Argentinia. should be a good game.

hey, Mansley, do you know quincy owusu abeyie?

haha bring it on

seriously, how cool would that be, a Holland - England final?

they're my favorite squads, should be a hell of a match!

how's england doing in its poule with poland btw?

Holland is no.1 now with 11 games without a loss, 5 games without a countergoal, and no lost game since van Basten is coaching we still have the Czechs away though.. we won at home but away is a totally different ballgame...

We're doing good - we haven't lost a game yet and the only 'blip' was a draw away to Austria. I think Poland are top of the group by a point but they have played a game more than us. We'll see you there!

and yea, holland will get far in germany, mark my words... I hope for the germans that the mannschaft will be a bit better then lately because I wasn't really impressed by them. hey, at least we didn't lose a single game (11 games) since van Basten is our coach

we just need a rijkaard or gullit to come and help van basten coach, then let them do a spit-match with rudi voller!!!

that'de be awesome

Holland is first in the poule but the decision will fall when we go and play the Czechs in an away match... we won at home but away is a lot harder.

we'll see! Holland - 20 just lost against Nigeria, but Nigeria deserved to win, Holland played horrible....

maybe it was because they got a 0-1 in the first minute... in the 46'th we made it 1-1 and it ended in penalty's. 10-9. because the fucking ball rolled off the penalty dot, whoa!
Well, anyway, Nigeria played as a good collective, they're all damn big guys and make a lot of fouls, I think they left half the Oekranian team injured... the Dutch team just looked exhausted, its been 35 degrees for 5 days here and well. I can't even handle it, let alone play soccer in it. I think the Nigerians had the advantage there, also they don't have double training camps like the important Dutch players have (they're also in Big' Holland.)

Ah well, shame but they brought it to themselves, they did show that they have a lot of potential, especially in the group phase.

What's the news in Holland about Kuyt joinng Liverpool, Def? The stories over here are saying that Feyernoord have admitted that a deal has been done but Liverpool are still keeping quiet.

argentina won, it's nigeria argentinia in the finals.

morocco was beaten by nigeria with 3-0, but any team in the final 8 could have beaten them, they where shit. makes it double so sad that we went out on the dutch way (penalties....) because we would have gone to the finals for sure. I'de love to see Holland -20 play against the young Argentinia's, no matter who wins, it would have been a great match.

I went to the World Cup <20 final and the 3/4th place match, got some tickets via some guy, it was neat!!

ah, the new fifa ranking's list:

FIFA-ranglijst: 1. Brazilië 846 punten, 2. Argentinië 787, 3. Nederland 781, 4. Tsjechië 778, 5. Mexico 768, 6. Verenigde Staten 765, 7. Frankrijk 749, 8. Engeland, Spanje 744, 10. Portugal 739.

since we haven't lost in 11 games, we're suddenly up, two places..

doesn't work on single game outcomes, has something to do with continents too, which explains why mexico/argentina/brasil and the usa are allways way up in the top 10.

it's a pretty weird system, that's true.

FIFA rankings are bollocks, I base that on the fact Scotland aren't at the bottom of the pile.

germany was three time world and european champion !
what about holland ?

And the german team did a good job at the confedrations cup a few months ago but I hope they still will improve their playing.
Damn, germany has to play a good cup next year in their home country!
A final between germany and holland or england would be great if germany wins :-P , if they will loose it's horrible.

if they loose, it's payback for Gullit

hey, the only way you guys could qualify was to host it

Germany did play pretty good in the confed cup, though I really didn't see much of that. I think they need to improve a lot if they wanna be up there with the final four, but somehow Germany is allways good in reaching the final stages of the tournament. Even when they're not playing good at all. ofcourse, germans allways score in the 90th minute, OR the extra time. but that's an art aswell.

errr, Holland was european champion in '88, after beating germany and russia who where the favorites that year. we've had our fair share of semi and finals too. our national team has been a bunch of overpayed playboys the last 10 years, that's finally changing and it seems to be working great. 11 matches without a loss, no losses since Marco van Basten is our new coach

anyways in the EC2006, I think the Czech republic will be going to the final four, Holland and Germany are probably getting far too.. I expect one 'surprise' country in the final four, dunno. that shit just allways happens.
It's going to be great fun anyways, I can't wait for it to start!! I'm probably going to some games!

the Johan Cruijf cup match will take place here on friday between PSV Eindhoven - Ajax Amsterdam.

I bet PSV will pulverize Ajax, if PSV gets Kalou from Feyenoord they'll rip Ajax to shreds.. Ajax was piss poor at the end of the season.

I'd castrate the little bastard if he went to the Scum. I think he'll be at Liverpool next season - especially if we offload that cumstain Baros. Ballack's shit, so naturally I'd be happy if he signed for the Scum.

I can't see owen coming back at the start of the season, mid-season transfer window is more likely. You never know what your striking options will be at that stage of the season. Liverpool and man u both have more depth upfront at the moment, but injuries were a bastard for both last.

I defo can't see him returning to Liverpool, Rafa is obviously adamant he won't make a move. Man Utd seems a long long shot considering their striking options and the way that scottish prick likes to put midfielders upfront and vice-versa, and newcastle....well i can't see owen wanting to play for a team not in europe. Also, for his situation, it's a point to note that Owen is a certain type of striker. He has only really seemed in the past few years to relish in a counter-attack style of play, not the kind of play that is used anymore by the top teams in england(domestic wise anyway).

The only hope i see for him, (for the first half of the season anyway), is if Real's players don't play to what they should play to. Robinho is gonna be given shit loads of time to settle in and is probably going to be a prefered sub to owen, even if they are both on the bench. Ronaldo and Raul are always going to be at the top spot.......so unless injury or a major dip in form impares their chances.....i'd leave the club if i was owen.

[edit]
Curse his luck for not being a certain argentinian defender.

I'm not so sure: the Liverpool board have sanctioned a move and told Rafa to buy him. Could cause friction though, so I'm not sure how it will all turn out. The rumour is that Owen will return to Liverpool on loan at first with the view to a permanent deal next summer. I'd bite their fucking hand off, to get him back!

Real...so stupid....Raul, Ronaldo, Baptista, Owen, and now Robinho. You think you've got enuf forwards? Maybe you should think about ur defence since they suck in the back.

They're just thinking about the future. Ronaldo and Raul aren't gonna be around forever, plus it's better to have young kids get experience with those who have plenty.

As would, you'd guess, most teams.

Wigan gave chelsea a scare today, who don't really deserve the three points.....um, yeah.

That was a good game until that moment. At the start i was gunning for chelsea but seeing the way wigan out-did them, that changed. Probably the harshest moment of recent seasons, in my opinion.

OK, prediction time!

I want predictions for the winners of the following:

1. The Champions' league
2. The English Premiership
3. The World Cup
4. Your local league (if not the Premiership)

I'll start things off:

1. Barcelona
2. Chelsea
3. Brazil

1. Barcelona, Chelsea or Milan...................or everton
2. Chelsea
3. Brazil

Though, if I could base my predictions on the opening day of the season....I'd say Man Utd for the premiership.

Yeah man, I don't expect much because it's a friendly match, but I'll be watching it anyways, I wonder if Makaay is playing

also, I hope Germany plays good because else Holland will be crap too, they are allways 'hanging back' in those practise matches, which totally sucks!

a draw 2:2.

well, I didn't watched the match. I decided to go to the lake and have some beers with my friends. I t was a lucky decision because I've read the german team play crappy. the netherlands were ways better.
Maybe we face again at the world cup next year !
Also I've read that Makaay didn't played. Can't understand it, he's topscorer in the bundesliga with 5 goals after just 2 matches. He nearly made a goal out of all his chances in the bundesliga.

I don't want to talk about that friendly night anyways.............oh the shame. Though it is confirmed, David James has taken Carlton Palmer's place as THE WORST PERSON TO EVER DON AN ENGLAND SHIRT.

I'm changing my prediction for the Premiership to Man Utd.

Why? Arsenal are shit, and Chelsea have a major major problem.

Morale, if you have so many players expecting to be in the first team, then some of those are going to be disheartened at the fact that they are omitted from the first team for certain games. This has been brought to my attention by Ricardo Carvalho biting out at Gallas being chose over him for the first two games of the season. Carvalho was the second best defender last year, getting away with fouls important to set pieces etc.etc. And now has been told he is third in line for the central defending position.
NOW, Michael Essien is essentially a defensive midfielder. I know Mourinho is going to have him as a sub to get used to the game in small portions, but if he decides to use him in the latter half of the season in favour of Makelele then that will cause massive unrest in the squad. So, if one player who did so well last season is speaking out against his omission, players will try and work that out on the pitch and the thought will seep in, "What if HE was there?" Which is a negative, producing negative performances from key, (frustrated), players.

Don't believe me? Real Madrid.

[edit]
BUT, I am changing my ECC prediction to Barcelona, especially after watching them in the spanish version of the community shield.

Fuckers, fuckers, fuckers! I'm back from my long ass stay in Amsterdam, and am looking forward to a new season.

As for John's request.....
1. The Champions' league
2. The English Premiership
3. The World Cup
4. Your local league (if not the Premiership)

1. Manchester United
2. Chelsea
3. Hate to say it but I do think it's a three team race. Holland, Brazil, and England
4. Calgary Flames (it's hockey but what do you expect I live in Canada, thats our footy)

EPL game

Fuckers, for all of our enjoyment I have started a league on the http://fantasy.premierleague.com web page. Go there pick a team and join the league Metal_tabs. Here we can compete, trade and see who should get Sir Alexs job next.
So don't be lazy, it takes about 10 minutes to get going and it'll be fun.

Essien? Despite the fact they only played West Brom last night.....he was amazing. And, the only one who seemed able to keep up with Shaun Wright-Phillips.

[edit]

*AHEM* I'm going back to Chelsea winning the league, and the ECC. Why? Their subs bench last night could win the league.....

Cech
Carvalho
Robben
Duff
Crespo

I'd be gutted if i was playing against them and saw that subs bench.

oh yeah, it was a crap match, though I must say, Holland might have played better but they changed too much in the second half. the coach changed about half the team, lol.

Robben was amazing, scored two marvellous goals. I also think it's stupid they didn't let Makaay play against Germany, I heard they're terrified for the guy over there
Ah well, it was just practise but for Germany they'de better do a lot better in the world cup because this wasn't really good enough to get to the final four! *(I bet they will be with the final four though, don't ask me why but germans are allways good in boring through tournaments!)

as for John's requests:

1. The Champions' league
2. The English Premiership
3. The World Cup
4. Your local league (if not the Premiership)

1. Barca. -> Rijkaard has done really well with this team, great players and a bit unlucky last year, though they don't seem to stop growing, they're definetly serious competitors, those guys play with such passion, I don't know, it's just a pleasure to watch!

2. Chelsea, with Robben in form hell.. they've got just about every good player in the world over there and a shitload of cash to back it up if they need some others.

3. Brasil. final four will be England, Germany and Holland. don't know who will play the finals against Brasil but I think it's either Germany or Holland. don't ask why as long as we don't get any penalty's I'm a happy man. (remembers many knockouts on penalty's)

4. Ajax Amsterdam

well. it's kind of a weird call but PSV has been shit lately. most good players have left to big money league's like England/Italy/Spain, you name it. PSV has basically been stripped. they will be up there next year but not just yet. (else, I'de be surprised. they do have a lot of talent and are playing CL as is Ajax Amsterdam who placed yesterday)
Feyenoord and Ajax haven't been up to their regular level lately but Ajax played a solid match yesterday, if they keep growing, Ajax will be the top-club they used to be back when they won the world title against Porto.

and AZ, well those who saw the UEFA cup, they used to be a great team ages ago, right now they've got the money rollin' and they're doing great in the competition, lots of talent from their own training grounds and a bunch of new players. they will be up in the final 3 of our competition, along with PSV and Ajax. Feyenoord will be gutted for another year, they just can't keep their shit together because teams keep buying their players.

I can't see Brazil winning the world cup....why? Well, hear me out.

Real Madrid v Barcelona......Deco is cut down by Robinho(for changing his nationality). Ronaldinho retaliates by breaking Robinho's legs....Ronaldo comes over punches Ronaldinho in the nose, which, in-turn, fucks about with his head making his brain explode. Ronaldo is arrested and kept in jail by spanish authorities until the end of the world cup.

And so the feelings reverb into the braziallian camp, who form a lynchin' mob out to get Deco who started the whole thing by changing his nationality...which means they miss out on the world cup entirely.

group G, E, B will be a treat to watch! Ajax - Arsenal will be neat! (though I don't see Ajax winning it, haha)

PSV is fucked, they've been stripped of all their best players by teams with actual money they don't stand a chance against Milan now. which is sad, they should have won last time. ah well. who knows they might have some tricks up their sleeve!

fuck, my Benfica doesn't stand a chance against Man. United.

FC Porto doesn't seem to have an easy task ahead, either.
