Yeah, Germany have done well this year. Liverpool could be drawn against Bayer Leverkusen who we played in the quarter finals in 2002. That would be a good match!

Hopefully United don't get matched up with Inter or AC. To me those would be bad match ups.

LOL just saw the replay of the liverpool game. Fuck John, Mellor is saving you guys left right and centre with clutch goals. Speaking of which, Gerrards strike was brillant but I still perfer Mellor's beating Arsenal. Just give him service and the goals will come....mark these words!

Yeah, Mellor has been substituing Baros and he's doing very well!!

credits go to Benitez, who substitutes Traoré for Sinama, and Sinama scored, then, substitute Baros for Mellor and... , the Gerrard scored that brilliant goal!

Congratulations Liverpool, you deserve that!

i was woundering to see Real Madrid out of Knock Out, then see Owen crying like a baby!

SEE YOU!

PSV tied with Feyenoord today, they're still way ahead in the national league though, but it was the best game I've seen in our league this year.

great soccer, it ended in 3-3, which makes you think about defence, right. but no, it was just excellent soccer, defence was left chanceless more then once, beautiful goals and the equalizer in the extra time, nervewrecking game!

champions league games:

Lyon - Bremen
Chelsea - Barcelona
AC Mailand - ManU
Arsenal - Bayern München
Turin - Madrid
Monaco - Eindhoven
Inter Mailand - Porto
Liverpool - Leverkusen

Two times Germany vs. UK. That could have been the beginning of a fight between John and me. But gladly my club is just in the UEFA-cup:

FC Parma - VfB Stuttgart
Alemannia Aachen - AZ Alkmaar
Schachtjor Donezk - Schalke 04
Grazer AK - FC Middlesbrough
SC Heerenveen - Newcastle United
FC Basel - OSC Lille
Austria Wien - Athletic Bilbao
Sporting Lissabon - Feyenoord Rotterdam
Partizan Belgrad - Dnjpr Dnjepropetrowsk
FC Valencia - Steaua Bukarest
Ajax Amsterdam - AJ Auxerre
ZSKA Moskau - Benfica Lissabon
Fenerbahce Istanbul - Real Saragossa
Panathinaikos Athen - FC Sevilla
Olympiakos Piräus - FC Sochaux
Dynamo Kiew - FC Villarreal

I think Schalke 04 will do it!
Alkmaar, too, i think. Aachen plays at the moment in the second league in germany.

Well, Liverpool have had a good festive period - 3 wins on the bounce is good preparation for the visit of Chelsea to Anfield on Saturday. I'll be happy with a draw but if we play like we did against West Brom we might be able to trouble their miserly defence and pose some problems. Besides, they're due a defeat

Yeah I saw that West Brom match. You're in good form, I reckon you could even upset Chelsea, I've just got a feeling.

Meanwhile, somehow Valencia are second In La Liga..... cool. I'm still angry about the Champions league though.

Barcelona are miles ahead though and I can't see them throwing La Liga away especially considering the form they are in.

If we beat Chelsea it should set Liverpool up for a good run and get us back into real contention for qualifying for the Champions' League.

United

Oh man, I've been on a big break from school so excuse me gentlemen.
John: Liverpool have been ripping it up, exellent form, tough loss to Chelsea though, and I really think you deserved a free kick in that game by the way.

United, what can I say have been on a huge tear ever since beating Arsenal way back when. Hopefully Van Nistelrooy comes back and makes a full recovery for the games against AC.

Now I know we talked about starting up some kind of Fantasy pool or something. Is anyone interested? If so, state the league you would be MOST interested in following.

For me EPL.

And for John, come over to the goal.com fourms. Liverpool gets trashed and they need your help. Its your duty!!!!!!!. lol

Those motherfuckers! What's your user name over there?

Yeah, we should have had a penalty against Chelsea for Tiago's handball. Did you notice that the referee put the whistle to his mouth but then pulled it away? He said it was because he was about to blow for a foul that was about to happen! Then he changed his story to the old 'ball to hand' argument. Yeah, he didn't have time to get his hand out the way, I mean the ball had only travelled 40 yards, right?

Bah, what's done is done. I'm more gutted at the injury to Alonso rather than actual result. Now he's out for 6 weeks with a broken ankle - we needed him for the United game on the 15th.

United are in good form. I thought they might slip up with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough both being away games but they won both. Tottenham won't be easy tomorrow but Spurs perennially go to Old Trafford just for the buffet so United will probably win.

I can't look beyond Chelsea for the league now - they played badly in their last two games but still won and they seem to have the luck of champions as well. Bastards.

Maybe. We can just add up all our correct predictions here. Any editing of posts after the games results in instant disqualification, haha! I'd probably go for the English Premier League but I'd give a prediction to anything that's put in front of me really.

Or to keep it simple, we could just limit ourselves to the Champions' League - there are still a lot of games to predict and the distance between games will keep us more interested than if we were making predictions once or twice a week. Actually I favour the CL - it'll be easier to keep count as well!

Talking

Ohhhhhhhhhhh Johnnnnnnnn. Don't you love it when one of your own ends up killing you in the end? LOLOL.

Tough match, lots of cards and at some points the ref let the game go too much for my liking.

Good win for United espically after Brown got sent off with 30+ minutes to play.

Ahhhh... Nothing like a cold beer and your team winning.

*edit* just like to say our defence played outstanding.... sorry AC who?

still trying to work out why we have sold gravesen...maybe moyes thinks selling another of his best players, (though rooney was inevitable), everton will move from 4th to 1st

Yeah, I was on the Kop - I have a season ticket. If you saw a Zyklon beenie it was me.

I can't believe how poor Liverpool played. That was Liverpool's worst performance of the season by far and Gerrard was anonymous for the first time in about 18 months. It was largely down to U****d closing us down very quickly and working tirelessly but we should have created more clear chances, especially after Brown was - rightly - sent off. U****d deserved to win in the end.

I can't believe that Fat Cunt escaped a booking for his celebration in front of the Kop. If Fowler got booked against Everton for his celebration then surely Fat Cunt should've been booked for his. It's no wonder people were throwing stuff at him, the fat stupid prick.

SARS: Gravesen was going at the end of the season anyway, so I guess Everton have done well to get a decent amount of money for him considering he could've gone for nothing in 6 months. I think it will be interesting to see how Everton respond to their best and most influential player leaving - I've got a feeling they could struggle in some games.

aye, he was gonna leave at the end of season granted, but letting him go at this point in the season...it's just beyond me. Although this contract thingy, it does come across to me as a loan, (if he doesn't live up to standards or some't, everton get him back).
In my opinion we should've let him go before buying any other player, don't get me wrong James Beattie is a good player, but we need a decent talisman in midfield, and i can't really see anyone who could replace Gravesen leaving their club at this point in the season.

woe is everton

There's talk of shifting Kilbane into centre midfield with Carsley and playing McFadden on the wing but yeah, Gravesen will be near impossible to replace at this stage, if at all.

Gravesen going to Real I think is a big, big mistake for his career. I really think he is going to have trouble adapting to the spanish game.

I heard some interesting talk about summer transfers, let me begin.

John: Owen might be back at the end of this season can you believe it. On another forum it has been said that liverpool will strongly go after Owen and go with 3 attacking players. Where they are getting the money for that I have no idea but ya I read this somewhere else so...

United are looking strongly to sign van der Vaart in the summer. People say he is possibly as the replacement for Ryan Giggs. Personally, I would like them to sign VDV but at the same time it would be a shame to let a player like Giggs go, espically in the form he has shown in the last 2 months.
Eariler this week Fergie said he would "love to have a player like Gerrard on his team". And when a reporter asked him does this mean your going to sign him in the summer, he just smiled and said nothing. I call bullshit on this one, espically since only 1 player has ever been transfered in the last 60 years between the two clubs. Nonetheless, I would like to see Gerrard come to United espically to score against them LOL

Don't have time to type everything out right now, I'll do more later.

now it would be nice to see that scouser score against liverpool, but...it's never gonna happen. As you said 1 transfer between the clubs in 60 years.

oooh, and some't that made me laugh; I read somewhere that Jose Mourinho was quoted saying "..we need more players..", which will apparently be coming from the Argentinian League in the summer. The agent which pointed out players like Robben, Kezman, Smertin has deep deep ties within the player assembly line which is River Plate and Chelsea have had their scouting fingers in River for some time now, so i read in The Mail On Sunday Football supliment anyways.

But yeah, that is a career killer for Gravesen and a season killer for us in my eyes. Hmmmm, McFadden on the wing would be good, he has got pace and takes on defenders....but unfortunatly he's cursed with being a Scottish footballer and he doesn't seem to of maintained a place this season. Cahill is performing well..but his temprement is disturbing some times, thank fuck he pulled one back for us today. Ah well, maybe Lee Carsley can continue his Tomas Gravesen physical transformation into a footballing one.

Haha, yeah, I can never tell the two fuckers apart! I think Gravesen will play well for Madrid if Luxemburgo realises that Beckham is a heap of shit in the middle of the park - he's just the player they need. As for Everton, they did well getting a draw today which was probably the best result that Liverpool could have hoped for.

Regarding Gerrard: There's no chance on this Earth that he would sign for U****d. I think he'd love to sign for Arsenal and play alongside Vieira and Henry. Madrid's an option so he can link up with Owen again and obviously Chelsea have a great manager and fellow England internationals Frank Lampard, John Terry, etc. Definitely not U****d - the club wouldn't even contemplate sending him down the East Lancashire Road for any amount of money.

I think it's a safe bet to assume that most people from outside of Liverpool or Manchester cannot begin to comprehend the level of hatred that exists between the two clubs. Maybe Rangers and Celtic fans can but not many others.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, Luxemburgo & david beckham just aren't gonna get on atall. Unless Beckham drops his, "take pictures of me i'm a sex god in japan, do not ignore the needs of the asian masses. oh appease them, appease them. snap away...etc.", image. Fuck me Beckham even said he wants to end his career AT real madrid...i can't see that happening, and i'd be very suprised if he wasn't off-loaded in the summer...trouble is, i can't really see a team that he'd be prepared to go to who would need him at the moment.

I agree. As a footballer he's served no purpose for the last 2 or 3 years and the sooner Eriksson realises this, takes his tongue out of Beckham's waxed arse and drops him in favour of Shaun Wright-Phillips the better.

I'll gladly take beckham on a free transfer LOL. He is somewhat still welcome at Old Trafford. But I'm really interested in finding out if Solskjaer can come back from his injuries because we really need someone to support van Nistelrooy, and those two just always clicked.

Also heard that perhaps Roy Maakay might also be a target for a summer signing. (RVN has said before he is the player he would most like to see play at Old trafford, fergie also hinted at this as well.)

I wonder what Everton is going to do with all their money??

do you think Ajax would let go of VDV??

Ajax just signed Charisteas though (the greek national striker) he scored in his first game but was injured. Anyways, we'll see what he pulls out of his sleeve in the summer, Ajax needs a replacement for Ibrahimovic. they needed striking power, I hope Charisteas gives it to Ajax because Ajax was in the crap lately. (well, not doing too bad in Holland but in Europe they sucked)

PSV and AZ both did great though, if PSV can keep its form they're going to get further in Europe for sure.

hmmmm, ajax have been pretty shit this season in europe... Domestic wise, i saw them play against FC Twente(late night channel 5 stuff) and was just plain shocked. So, fook knows what's goin' on there.

Beckham will never return to Man Utd...unless he turns like 35 and Alex Ferguson is dead..somewhere. Plus i really can't see Solskjaer coming back and maintaining a definate place amongst the first team, even if it is to bolster van nistelrooy. Especially with Smith & Rooney in the ranks.

Shaun Wright-Phillips deserves a long extended international run too.

GK: Robinson
LB: A. Cole
RB: G. Neville
CB: Cambell
CB: Terry
LW: J. Cole
RW: Wright-Phillips
AM: Gerrard (c?)
AM: Lampard (c?)
CF: Owen
CF: Rooney

now, if there isn't a player in that line up(cept maybe robinson)that you wouldn't want in your team, you're a fuckin' fool. and look, nooo Beckham. He hampered us in Euro 2004, his influence and presence wasn't there. Compare that to someone like (hate to say it) Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard, both those players are dominant and would probably lead by example when it comes to internationals...in turn, if yer think about it, would probably help develop Wright-Phillips into a world class player.

nationally Ajax is in the top now, but they did play terrible at the start of the season. PSV and AZ are both winter champs now and I can see PSV making a name for themselves in europe. Ajax was a shame in europe though, they just plain out sucked.

I see Beckham kinda ran out of credit in England? hehe.

knowing us? nothing. At least until the summer anyways, we're not gonna go down so Moyes may aswell stick with what he's got for now. But, at the end of the season & the summer build up, it's gonna be the same talk about Everton as it was last summer "they're gonna struggle", next season i can see us struggling. Especially if we don't build our midfield, but to be honest with you...the reason i think we haven't had that bad a time this season is the opposition that's been thrown up. Let's face it, most of the teams in the premiership at the moment aren't exactly even mediocre(sp?)premiership teams. Everton are one of those, and those are the type of teams that should be in a premiership relegation battle.

Definitely. I agree with SARS's England team except I'd probably give young Stuart Downing of Middlesbrough a chance on the left.

yeah, Defoe ain't playing that badly. Wouldn't mind seeing him upfront in a few friendlies. Then again, the same could be said about Andy Johnson of Crystal Palace, but i doubt he would live up to it on the international stage.
Owen has had only 9 starts this season..along with 12 sub appearances, most of his goals have come from starting, so i don't see that as too much of a concern. My only concern is our so called captain...which i've made obvious already.
I hate that twat.
hmmmz, Sam call's the next ECC round.
Bayern Munich v Arsenal - Arsenal
Liverpool v B Leverkusen - toughie...though i'll go with liverpool
PSV v Monaco - hate to say it but, monaco

BARCELONA V CHELSEA - fuck off, no way i'm calling that. if you want to fine...but it's impossible

Man Utd v Milan - Milan

Dude you should really wait till a couple days before the matches to call it.

Oh and as a rule for all that would like to take part in the metaltabs champions league, you must MUST call ALL games. A no call results in a wrong choice. If anyone else has rules or somethign they would like to add then do it.

John I know you saw my team eat up Arsenal

4 - 2.....Ronaldo actually did something for a change.

I'm happy, we ruled the whole game minus the first 9 minutes. Now if Ruud would only get his shit together fuck!.

John O'Shea's goal was the highlight of the game in my opinion.

A defender in that position just shows how arsenal were playing.

YES. United closed the gap this weekend on Chelsea
Good news: Robben and Drogba are both injured.

Tomorrow: England - Holland I think it's at White Heart Lane if I'm not mistaken. Perdictions anyone?
Remember: No Davids, No RVN, No Robben, and No English defence. Hahaha Tough game to call I reckon, but I'll go for the motherland, Oranje 2 - 1.

It'll be a draw - I'll plump for 1-1. It's on Wednesday by the way and I wont even be able to go to the pub to watch it as I have to study for a bookkeeping test on Thursday

Sucky John!! I'll DEFINETLY be at the pub

on another note, I don't think Holland will do that great. there's been a lot of changes in the squad and Van Basten is probably going to give some new kids a chance, which might turn out bad against a team with as much routine and experience as England.

we'll see, it's definetly going to be an interesting game though, I'm watching!

Unfortunately, if I fail any exams I have to foot the bill for any re-sits - £1,450! Study is the main priority for me now but I did watch the match today. I was impressed with the Dutch, especially considering that they were such an inexperienced side. England were shit, no question, but Holland passed the ball nicely and were unlucky when they hit the post early on. Sven seriously needs to rethink his tactics.

haha, right. Robben has only been in the dutch squad a couple of times. they don't need him but he's a fresh addition to the wing, he's ace but to say 'they're nothing without Robben' is just stupid. you didn't even wing again a B-team :

most English folks in the pub I watched it didn't know anyone in the squad except for van der sar and heitinga loads of new players which impressed too, van Basten played his cards right and he has balls to give them a change against England if you ask me.

agreed, we had no real attack, Kuyt played a tight game but we're missing a real striker, Makaay doesn't fit in the dutch system, Van Nistelrooy and Vennegoor-of Hesselink do. Castelen did great on the wing too. Yildrim played his first game but didn't leave an impression.

A draw might have been fair but England definetly played shit. Castelen made a nice goal too, but it wasn't a goal, his finish was awesome though. Kuyt was unlucky to hit the post and Makaay never got dangerous. I'de definetly say Holland played the better game and England was a big dissapointment. 7 times unbeaten now under the lead of Van Basten and playing more attractive footy, he's doing a great job, Advocaat is history, I think everybody's happy about that now

I actually like Robben a lot. Good strength, vision, shot, and speed. Def I really do think that we should be playing a 5 player midfield similar to United. It opens up the wings a lot and provides support in the offensive zone. Plus then you get the advantage of playing two classic heavy strikers (RVN and Makaay). I'll cross shit into the box all day if I know those two are waiting.

Other news, Kluivert looks like he will never wear the oranje again. He really needs to change his attitude. He isn't even listed as a player on the KNVB website. What a waste of talent....

he's been shit for a couple of years after he got kicked out of Oranje.

I don't really like Makaay in the current system. he's a good striker but doesn't fit the playing style, he's more of a 'sniper' which works great in the german division hehe (they call him 'der fantom', they're terrified of him, it's the ghost!)

Vennegoor of Hesselink might be playing someday soon, expect him to score. Yildrim is in the squad now too, he's a free-kick specialist much like Pierre van Hooijdonk is.

loads of new players coming on with Van Basten in charge, I guess its a good thing. but I don't think van Basten will stay too long. he'll probably set up a young winning team and leave it there and consider his job done. (he's allready won everything else in the years he played..) I just have a feeling about it, though I don't know if he can pull it of before WC2006. But. I do know we'll play some attractive football by then, I really don't care if we win everything or not, playing a great game is more important to me. and for van Basten too, his first objective was to play attractive football like Cruyff invented it for Oranje back in the day.

ahyeah second objective was qualifying for WC2006, but Oranje has been unbeaten under van Basten's lead. and ofcourse, on top of the poule

Manchester United will listen to offers for Ruud van Nistelrooy - to generate the funds for a summer swoop for Atletico Madrid's Fernando Torres. Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-term admirer of the 20-year-old Spanish international striker who has scored 10 goals in 22 La Liga appearances this season. But it will come as a shock that United boss Ferguson is now willing to sacrifice Van Nistelrooy to bring Torres to Old Trafford.
Simon Mullock, Sunday Mirror

WTF!!!!????!!! If this happens I'll be real pissed. Your getting rid of a 30+ goal scorer for a 10 - 15 goal scorer.....Just doesn't make sense. If we were to sell anyone I'd get rid of Saha or maybe Smith depending on if Ole can make a return. I'm sure Everton or Liverpool (never ever going to happen) would enjoy both players, hell I'm sure a lot of teams would like Smith. This has that stinky Glazer's stench all over it.

Is the Mirror a good paper?

Good thing United beat Man City, now they're closer to Chelsea. I'd be pretty pissed if they sold V. Nistelrooy, not just because he's one of my favorite players, but because.......well, you just don't sell a guy who's one of the most deadly strikers in the world. Rooney fits perfectly in the United line up, w/ him just up top, but it'd be even more insane if V. Nistelrooy played up top w/ him. I'd sell Saha or Smith (which would be a pretty tough decision), and focus on getting like a midfielder, since Roy Keane is deciding to retire, and guys like Scholes and Giggs are getting older.

So-so. I read a story in the Sunday Mirror about Gerrard joining Real Madrid for £28m in the summer but there wasn't a single quote in the article. Completely fabricated out of speculation.

Today was really cool. One of the guys in work won a competition to have a tour of Liverpool's training ground and to watch the training session. The tour wasn't very long but we ended up in the canteen while most of the players were having breakfast.

I got my shirt signed by Baros, Morientes, Hamann, Garcia, Riise, etc. Ron Yeats was also there and he signed my shirt too. Ron Yeats played for Liverpool in the 60s and is an absolute legend. Unfortunately, Stevie Gerrard must've been given the day off after his exertions for the tsunami charity match last night.

I'd hope that they won't. Thing that pisses me off is that he would be going to some huge club that wouldn't even need him.

Every club needs Steven Gerrard - there isn't a club on this Earth that would not be improved by having him in the team - it's just that only a select few can afford him: Chelsea, Man Utd and Real Madrid. We all know he isn't going to follow Fat Boy and make the journey down the East Lancashire Road so that leaves Real and Chelsea. After we win the Champions' League this season, he won't want to leave

so, do you guys know Robinho?

Luxemburgo definately want him to play for Real Madrid, and if it got confirmed, Real will be playing even better, you bet, Luxa and Robinho worked together at Santos F.C, Luxemburgo definately knows how to manage Robinho.

any thoughts?

I've heard of him but I've not seen him play. If he's only half as good as Ronaldinho he'll do well.

Robinho? Isn't he the young guy that played with Diego, and there's that one video of him where he pulls off like 10 stepovers in a row on a defender?
