That may very well be the case, but the general concensus in Britain (as highlighted by the press 'clippings' in that link) is that United will have more L's than W's in the coming years. It's also worth bearing in mind that, when Liverpool win their games in hand we'll be 2 points ahead of United

I think those press clippings where carefully selected by the liverpool webmaster anyhow, ofcourse each team and it's supporters have a different outlook on the result.

True, but everybody in England knows what's happening at United. They didn't even make it past the group stages of the Champions' League, they're nowhere near Chelsea and are about to be usurped as main challengers to Chelsea by Liverpool.
The only people who can't see it are deluded Man United supporters. They celebrated like Liverpool used to when we beat them during the 90's - as if it was the FA Cup final. I've been there, I understand all too well the feeling of making up for a disappointing season by revelling in one off victories against better teams. It was the story with Liverpool during the 90's and much of the new millennium but that's about to change: Liverpool are going from strength to strength and United are going backwards.

I agree about United going backwards, I think they where lucky getting van der Sar in though the thing is, sometimes they play brilliant and usually it's nothing special (lately) they are good in the top matches though but they're missing a steady midfield IMO. I think they need more young talent there.
Something Chelsea has invested in since the last year, they have a deal with PSV for Alex and maybe they'll even get Farfán at some point. They got their eyes on Affelay and Aissatti too (19 and 17 yrs and allready played CL for PSV!)
Anyways, it's just a matter of time before Abramovic drops his toy or at least, I hope. you guys must get tired of Chelsea. I was very happy to see them lose in the last CL. I hope Barcelona kicks their asses this year!
In other news, Van Hooijdonk (who remembers him winning the UEFA cup with Feyenoord!) is back to Feyenoord after playing for Fenerbache (turkey) and NAC (dutch semi-top team)
He's coming back there for good, they call him Pi-air (his first name is Pierre) and he's a free-kick specialist, he was in the dutch selection for a short period of time.. I heard he's coming back to Feyenoord because Kuijt is leaving
Another surprise, Salomon Kalou might be going into our national team, he'de be a great asset, allthough fairly unknown he's one of the best strikers in Holland and a real technical player, a treat to watch!

Yeah, I'm hoping that Barcelona beat Chelsea. Chelsea were a breath of fresh air at first but now they're just too good and people are tired of looking at the results each week and seeing another Chelsea win.
Liverpool recently went on a 12 match unbeaten run with 11 wins and we still didn't gain any real ground on Chelsea. It's just demoralising to be playing so well and winning matches and still not getting any closer to them. They're not even in good form either, yet they still win every week!

We were the better side for 60 minutes but as soon as they got the second goal (after Stephen Warnock laziliy played Crespo onside) it was curtains. I'm not that bothered because we never get a good result at Stamford Bridge and at least they got 3 more points clear of Man United.

We twatted the Arse last night. The only reason it wasn't 3 or 4 was because of that cunt Lehman in goal. Good atmosphere though, although night games generally are a tad louder when the crowd get behind the team.

Strangely, I think , he's been putting Garcia on the bench because of Kewell's new found form, shifted Gerrard to the right and has been sticking with underperforming(lack of goals)strikers, I always thought Garcia can always sneak a goal from the right whilst sticking Gerrard in the middle.
And why oh why he bought Robbie Fowler, who, in my opinion, did terribly at Leeds & Man City, is a transfer decision beyond me - unless he pans on using him in some kind of coaching position, experience wise, for the other strikers.
Anyway, another transfer that has caught my attention in January was the loan of Anders D'Allesandro from Wolfsburg to Portsmouth. Dunno if anyone ever saw this kid when he was playing for River Plate, or in the Argentine national team, but keep an eye on him kids, he can easily play for one of the top five teams in the premiership and I'm suprised he didn't sign for Tottenham in the summer.

Well with Portsmouth being loaded all of a sudden, he might just be playing for one of the top five teams in the near future. Can't say I've seen him in action too much, but I keep hearing good shit about him.

Yep, Andres D'Alessandro is fine, but not too decisious in my opinion.
He were bought as a super tallent player from River to Wolfsburg and did really great at Germany, but, what happened when a time have just ONE tallent player, everyone knows.
River did tryed to bring him back to Monumental, just like they did with Luciano Figueroa, but Andres prefered Portsmouth, which is a ridiculous team in my opinion, just like the majority of Premiership teams, besides Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and maybe Wigan FC with is a great surprise.

Just wait till you have to come to fortress Anfield
Kewell was shite, Sissoko was missed, Gerrard should have started.
Liverpools performance tonight was total bollocks. All defence followed by random long balls. I think they must have forgot they were not in a Premiership game.
See you at Anfield, no falling over at the slightest of touches please,

Arsenal, however, with their seemingly experienced depleted squad totally owned Real Madrid....I only remember seeing an actuall Real Madrid team in the last five minutes.
Same situation as Liverpool last year, ousted out of the top four by their nearest local rivals, in this case Tottenham, and perfmorming better in Europe than in the Premiership.....coinky-dink for the future?

Another 3 points for Liverpool, yay. Crouch even hit the crossbar (with the ball, not his head)

4 nil united. Although the suprise was to keep V. Nistelrooy on the bench. I don't think he will respond very well to this. I was looking at the victory pictures online and he was no where to be found. This worries me very much.

hah, soz. Just reminded me of a Sealab 2021 episode.
Yeah, I only caught the second half of England's game - (I had to deal with some dude fixing up an internet router for most of the first half) - anyway, england played well for that second half, the crouch option was used to good effect, though I think Defoe should've been brought on earlier. It's odd that the 'reserve' England squad can pull together and do what the first couldn't.

Liverpool was dominated for 90 minutes and was punished for being one of the shittiest teams in Europe. justice was made and the undeserving winner of both last year's Champions League and European Super Cup was eliminated.

As much as I hate liverpool, Benfica are a shit team, who play boring football and try to sell every foul. www.nikefootball.com , Watch the new Cantona ads. Should have just showed a Benfica "best of" video for the "1-1-8".

errr, no. in 2 weeks we beat defending CL champions twice and the 2004 champion once. not bad for a shit team...
errr, no. we cut on the fireworks to get results. it works. and virtually all excitement on the game came from Benfica.

errr, no. if anything, we were robbed to the max, especially in the first half. second half saw a better referee, only because he suddenly grew balls and stopped doing favours to the Anfield crowd.
Mr. Spock would blow up seeing how illogical your post is.

Coming from an Everton fan this will be shocking, but they're not shit, their strikers are, simple as that really. Also, they couldn't have sucked that much last year if they won the ECC - if you want to talk about shit teams this year then Chelsea are the first that spring to mind, Jose's substitutions on tuesday were just baffling, bringing on a defender as a striker? I admit Robert Huth can pop a thirty yarder in, but he's no good at getting away from other defenders. And, I have no idea how they keep winning domestic matches, every time I have seen them on Sky this year they have been absolutley dire - unfortunatly their opposition haven't picked up on it and their 'fear' has led them to losing.
If Liverpool had strikers that could actually score week-in-week-out, then they would've easily gone through last night.

i'll have to disagree with you, SARS.
Liverpool's midfield and defence was atrocious. the attack was the least of their problems, as the Hyypiäless defence struggled each time Geovanni or Simão had the ball. after the first 10 minutes, Liverpool had virtually no midfield aside from Gerrard, and all he did was to pump balls to Crouch. besides, we had Beto playing instead of Petit and Karagounis only came late in the game.
even Benítez admitted that both midfield and defence was the weakest link, both in the Lisbon game and the one at Anfield.
no matter how you look at it, Benfica is the deserving winner of both games.
as for Chelsea, yes, Mourinho is on drugs lately. i'll tell you this: picking Drogba instead of Crespo to begin the game against Barcelona is nuts, as no one can convince me that Drogba is the better player.

We should've been 4 up at half time. Benfica had 4 shots in the whole tie and scored three goals (they hit the bar with the other). We dominated last night but couldn't find the goals due to woeful performances from Crouch and Morientes.
At least we went further than Man Utd! I have to agree with Mr Star, though: Arsenal look like "doing a Liverpool" and winning it this year. I'll be hoping they win it, anyway.

my money is one either Barcelona (the safe choice) or Lyon (they're on fire. PSV was raped last night). i would throw Juventus as well but they seem to be way unbalanced some times.
i'm a realistic though, and i realize Benfica probably won't pass from the quarter-finals. let's Ajax eliminates IM and the draw makes us face them. it's the only acessible team i can think of right now.

Just dropped in for the soccer thread guys
PSV was crap, they won against Lyon last year and got raped in the injury time by AC Milan.. they where the better team over the two matches but hey, shit happens.
This time they lost fair and square, even though they where a bit unlucky in the first half and their 'motor' Cocu was sent off. Juninho should have gotten the red card as well but all that aside, Lyon was just better. It's not a shame to loose from a better team, though the ref played an important role.
This year PSV has only started to build a new team, there where to kids on the field under 19, their striker Koné only played a few games and their best players have been sold.. including Van Bommel. It's the PSV story of their life, anyone remember Van Nistelrooy, Robben, Kezman, Ronaldo, Gullit and Romario?
Guess what, they where all PSV players. And they where all bought by rich clubs, that's what they have in common and that's what happens to most Dutch teams, they get bought out by teams from the bigger competitions. It's just how it works, Holland is a big ass breeding ground, heh. but the money going into our competition makes the teams get back off their ass quickly. PSV is the best example, they lost half their team but used their young talents and some transfers and they got back in the CL again. (sure, not as far as last time but you get the idea)
Hiddink, the PSV coach is probably leaving too. I heard England wanted him as coach? Russia want to pay him a bunch of millions if he goes there. Australia doesn't want to lose him either. Seems he'll finish the WC job with Australia and will then move on to Russia to wake a sleeping giant..
Koeman and Rijkaard are through, that's good. I hope Barca wins it, Rijkaard deserves it ofcourse Koeman and Benfica will be up there as well. There's 3 dutch coaches left!
I hope Ajax does beat Inter, their striker, Huntelaar is going apeshit lately, scoring at least once in every match and scoring 6 goals in the last two matches (no shit.) he's going over 30 goals this year, he's at 29 now and the topscorer.
To be honest, Ajax doesn't stand a chance against any other team still in the CL, they have had a shitty season with a lot of players leaving and a lot of negative media attention. Danny Blind (their coach) seems to have turned the tables around and the first half against Inter reminded me of Ajax 'back in the day'. But the CL is just to early for them now, I don't expect to much but Ajax will be up there with the top teams in the future.
It's the same with all 'top' clubs, eventually they'll be on top of their game again, it sure took them long enough. who remembers Ajax winning everything in '95?
The good news for ajax next year; Jaap Stam is coming back to Holland, signed for two years. They have the top scorer Klaas-Jan 'the hunter' Huntelaar and Kenneth Perez (AZ's talent) I expect them to win the competition over here since PSV will crash'n'burn after Hiddink leaves. Alex, Cocu, Gomes, Farfán, Simons and maybe more will leave as well. Leaving no serious competition for Ajax, only Feyenoord and AZ are serious contenders.
Be sure to remember the name Huntelaar, if that kid keeps growing in skill he will not last another year under ajax's wings.
Jezus, I'm rambling. But hey it's my only post for a while, heh.
As far as the CL goes, Juventus was pretty shitty against Bremen and they should give the german keeper a beer for throwing the match, haha!
AC Milan whooped Bayern, don't count them out just yet, I hold them in higher regard then Juve. They're a more balanced team and are strong on all fronts, AC Milan - Barca would be my dream final right now.
I don't see Arsenal winning it but they might pull a 'liverpool' hehe.
On another note, Klinsmann is getting his ass pounded by the german media, after losing from Italy, germany didn't look good. Holland won against Equador in a very tame practise match. I'm looking forward to the world cup. I'm watching all the games in either the pub or at a friends place with a widescreen beamer and a beer tap!!!
All the best to you, soccer fans. I'll drop in from time to time.

I think Juventus has a sick midfield, but lack someone who can effectively link the midfield with the forwards every game. At least thats what I've been seeing (for some stupid reason, italian games are always on TV here, fucking italians taking over Canada)

Don't fuckin' jinx it dude!
As for Barcelona, they got it spot on on Tuesday. They had to stop Chelsea scoring first, they did so. In the break Rijkaard decided to put Ronaldinho behind Larsson & E'to, tactical change that had a massive effect on the match. All through the first half Carvalho and Ferriera closed down Ronaldinho and any link up play with his team mates on the left - when Rijkaard put him more toward middle, it left Terry and Carvahlo with atleast three strikers to deal with, end to end play led to a ball going past Makélélé and an inevitable Ronaldinho goal.
Mourhinho did fuck all in terms of tactical movement, playing Duff ahead of Wright-Phillips was amazingly stupid considering his form and probable fitness. Why he insists on Drogba ahead of a more complete goal scorer in Crespo is, again, baffling. If he had Robben playing on the left with Cole, considering Wright-Phillips doing all he can on the right, (which is usually always enough to get a ball into the box, no matter who he is put up against), and Lampard behind the foward I would've assumed it would create more chances, crosses, through balls, long shots, long shot goal fumbles etc.etc.etc.
Obviously Mourinho didn't have enough faith in his defence so decided to go with Lampard & Makélélé providing the defensive cover, limiting Lampard in attacking scope - as soon as I saw that I just knew Barcelona were going through. Actually, fuck that, seeing Chelsea's premiership performances recently made me decide Barcelona were going through. Mourinho should take a leaf out of Erikson's book if he wants to use Lampard, Cole & Wright-Phillips to full effect, which he just hasn't done this season - based on viewing full match performances anyway, or maybe I'm just catching them when they are really shit.
Simple.

I based my arguement on their domestic games. There are a shit load of strikers in Argentina and Brazil that are being overlooked due to the fact they aren't being picked for their national teams, but, oh no, "There's a big fella, let's have him", "Oh, there's an old L'Pool boy, we'll have him too!", "Hm, oh shit, I sold my only decent striker, hm I know, I'll take one of theirs in a few months". And yeah, I realise that the Liverpool board are tight bastards, but fuckin' hell, Andy Johnson has better Goal/Game ratios compared to the Liverpool strikers and he's still probably dirt cheap.
Still though, Barca, Milan or Arsenal for the final.

Unlucky Ten Ton Alien! Benfica v Barcelona! You've saved our blushes anyway, because Barca would have destroyed us!
I honestly can't see anybody stopping Barca - they're the best team in the world at the moment.
The full quarter-final line up is as follows:
Match 1: Arsenal v Juventus
Match 2: Lyon v AC Milan
Match 3: Benfica v Barcelona
Match 4: Inter/Ajax v Villareal
The way the draw is done (i.e. they draw the semi-finals as well) means that the semi-finals will be as follows:
Winner of Match 1 v winner of Match 4
Winner of Match 2 v winner of Match 3
Yep, that means we can't have a Milan/Barca final. Pity - it would have been a game fitting of the Champions' League final. I've got a feeling for an Arsenal/Barca final now that I've seen the draw.
Def: I'll raise a beer to you tonight

i know. impossible things have happened and i do think we have a chance.
with Petit instead of Beto on the midfield and Karagounis on the initial squad, everything can happen. maybe Simão will have another inspiring moment and score another amazing goal like he did against Liverpool.
and if we pass Barça, choosing between AC Milan and Lyon is like choosing between getting stabed in the neck or shot in the eye.
anyways, Benfica vs Villareal for the final!!!

Hahahaha Fuck you liverpool. Liverpool looked so tired, not willing to play, not willing to get dug in (after 50 games I guess we can expect that). Most over rated team in Europe is Liverpool. Henry on the other hand was fantastic! If he can compete like this game in and game out I will have no reason to continue to rag on him. Arsenal thanks you Steven LOL
United - Newcastle was majorly one sided. But the decision to leave the leading goalscorer in the EPL on the bench is beyond me. Fergie, your days are numbered.

Possibly the worst performance ive seen from Liverpool.
We will not win any matches if we stick to the 'hoof the ball up to that 7ft tall bag of shite Peter "Bambi" Crouch' tactic.
He should never start, only brought on when the need arises (as per his role for England)
Offload Cisse, Morientes, Crouch (eventually), and Fowler.
Oh and Garcia whilst im at it. Yes he scored, but apart from that he looked uninterested.
And why does Rafa always seem to make a substitution on exactly 70 mins? I predict it every game!
Rooney took the piss today, at least theres one Scouser who can play

http://www.soccerway.com/news/2006/...lrooy-ultimatum I will be ultra pissed if this happens, there is no excuse in the fucking world one can give for not playing/wanting to trade the best finisher in England in the last 3 years. If this does happens I will personally never ever watch another Manchester United game again
