Dani Filth-Cradle of Filth (Very unique. Stands out)
Glen Benton-Deicide (great singer but terrible song writter)

Well, I'll be damned. I almost put in Tom Petty and Bob Seger as a joke, too, but I decided at the last minute I was only going to put in people I don't really like (I like them both). Well, with the exception of Rick James, of course, how could I not like the Superfreak? He's superfreaky!

I agree with that list. Maynard has the best voice I've ever heard.
Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, too. His clean vox are incredible.

That's bullshit. The fastest Tom had to sing on that whole album was the title track. I can keep up with it word for word. On the other hand, I can't keep up with every word for Disposal of the Body. It isn't even fucking close.
By the way, Tom had to sing much faster on Reign in Blood. Listen to Criminally Insane (Quarters for the criminally insane, escape for me has fast become a game...) and Reborn. Those songs still aren't as fast as some of the stuff Corpsegrinder does.

Yeah, you're right, that singer from Godsmack is VERY original. The whole band is very original. Too bad Alice in Chains practically ripped off Godsmack like 8 years before Godsmack existed. They even had the nerve to steal Godsmack's name for the name of a song! Bastards!

Actually, I SHOULD be able to respond because no where on this site does it say "Only respond to somebody in a thread if you AGREE with what they had to say". If you can find out where this rule is, kindly show it to me.
Godsmack sucks and so does the singer. I wasn't even lambasting him for being unoriginal so much as I was for COMPLETELY RIPPING SOMEONE OFF. By the way, I really don't see how having an open mind has anything to do with the singer from Godsmack choking on cocks, and I'm very curious as to why you would even bring that up.

So what preparations are you making AOD? I think Chris is completely in his rights to express his opinion, as much as you are.
The vocalist for Falconer is growing on me, he is definently my favourite clean vocalist.

Unless you are in Godsmack i fail to see how he attacked you.
Goddamit i always get drawn into these, i can't standby when someone makes a stupid comment though.

His comments should go unpunished for the simple reason that he is not expressing an opinion but a patently obvious fact. Besides, who made you judge, jury and executioner you trumped up little fart-knocker? Godsmack completely ripped off AIC. Let's look at the evidence:
1. They named their band after one of AIC's songs
2. Their singer is trying his damndest to sound exactly like Layne Staley
3. Their guitarist is trying his damndest to sound exactly like Jerry Cantrell
4. Their bassist is trying his damndest to sound exactly like Mike Inez
5. Their drummer is trying his damndest to sound exactly like Sean Kinney
So basically, Godsmack are AIC... just without the hooks, riffs, songs, personal lyrics, inventiveness, good guitar playing, skill, attitude and soul. Layne Staley must be turning in his grave.

Well, you certainly showed me! I'll never again bother to point out when somebody robs somebody else musically, because if I do, you might show up to put me in my measly place!
First off, I wasn't exactly "shut up" in that Pantera thread. I stopped that debate because NOBODY WAS SAYING ANYTHING NEW. Do you know what that means? That means if the debate had gone one, it would have essentially been a bunch of people lobbing back and forth points that they had already stated 17 times. What the hell's the point?
You are acting like a puerile jackass, and I'm glad to see John Mansley pretty much point out everything for me, because I'm not going to bother reiterating that myself. Facts are facts.
I should also point out, you might want to learn how to spell, punctuate, and use proper grammar before you go on a childish rant and call somebody else a "dumbass". You seem to personify the word. You also say "AGAIN" as if I had said that before. I posted my response to you long before I explained what happened with Phil Anselmo. You also pointed out your previous response that I "need to have an open mind", when in fact you are the one who is stubbornly sticking to your little misperceptions, which would be bad enough even if it weren't for the fact that you are doing so in such a belligerent fashion.
Well, it's certainly nice that you think that if you are behaving like a jackass, you ought to be treated like one, because you just have been.

Can we also point out that Telly or whatever his name is from Godsmack sucks? He's not just trying to sound like Layne Stanley, he's doing a bad job of it.
Also: I'm as big a Pantera fan as anybody, except the dumbasses who can only discern the difference between 'opinion' and 'fact' when their own's being attacked, but even I'll admit the Phil thing. It doesn't detract from the band. It wouldn't detract from Godsmack either, if they did anything good with their impressions.

Thank you very much. It's just good to hear a Pantera fan actually admit that about Phil. I'm no Pantera hater, goddamn it, I own 5 of their fucking albums. Unlike most people, I liked Pantera in spite of Phil, not because of him. I don't like Godsmack in spite of their ripoff of AIC, because not only is it far more blatant, but the whole band is doing it, AND they are doing a terrible job. If I ever hear a Godsmack song that has half of the emotion of AIC's worst song, then maybe I'd shut up about it. Let's face it, without the emotion, AIC would have sucked, just like Godsmack do now.

I'll admit that phil sounds like that guy, I'll even go as far as saying phil ripped him off. But I still don't see a problem with that. He's still a great singer and growler.
I like pantera because of pantera. To qoute the motherfuckers "yesterday don't mean shit".
Now to the current topic:
Just because you don't like a band doesn't mean they suck. Without the emotion, AIC would still have cool riffs (they may not be technical, or even hard to play, but they're catchy).
Godsmack has a few of their own. Yes they are a rip-off of AIC. The guys in AIC don't seem to have a problem with it.
I don't think music can be robbed. It's universal. The only way someone can steal music is to steal an actual song.
(I should have my supreme metalhead changed to "shit disturber")

august 6, 1984, 10:32pm.
Twas overcast that day.
He pulled up in a 1965 'vet. cherry red. The chrome blinded me with it's reflection.
His entourage consisted of a man around 24, he reeked of marijuana, and his smile tilted in a way that made you want to like him. A women, with wrinkles that screamed of laughter, yet in this particular introduction, she scowled as if she was serving the devil his drink. And a inconspicious man, of about 35, who seemed to meld into the background. Just a soul who was there.
They all walked with a light grace. Almost seeming to float across reality. And when they came to a brutal halt. The singer proclaimed. "I'm high as fuck on lsd 25, I took 3 hits of the purest shit, and have been tripping for approximately 34 hours, I've got some time to serve". The others frowned in unison, yet somewhere in their compliance, I drew the conclusion that they were space bound. Lost in the abyss of their own feral minds.
He turned to me, that man. On the corner of 6th and heaven, diem ave. And proudly stated. "Today, the day I sing like James hetfield, from the band metallica, is the day that I shall be remembered. I will never grace the pages of your grade 12 history book, yet I will be idolized upon a green parchment. This particular page, shall not exist by actually form. It will be placed together meticulously by small men that I offhandedly refer to as "pixels". They don't like the reference. But one day, i shall be immortalized, by a drunken fool who has no idea who the fuck i am. Yet this fool will abuse the power of these pixels and the power of the english language to portray my decent into existence. "
As he ended his spree of insanity. I crawled back into my box (cardboard at the time) and A man approached me. The name of krist or something or other. He stated that he was in fact there at the time. I took this prophecy for something it was not, pawned my cardboard box for bus fair, and rode the asylum express to delusion. There I met kuriss, (as he liked to be called). And we dropped a wonderful hallunigetic. We sat for awhile, chatting then chris turns to me and proudly exclaims.....

Check out Seven Days of May and Face in the Sky. They're on Souls of Black, he kinda sounds like Hetfield. Thats just my opinion. Blast it out of the water if you like.

To be perfectly honest, I thought it was a joke, it made me laugh. He really didn't have a very original voice by any means, but it really doesn't remind me of Hetfield either. You know who it DOES remind me of, though? Steve Souza, formerly of Exodus (probably other bands, too). I think Steve Souza used to be in Testament, too, before they released any albums. I have a couple of Testament's demos, I'm gonna see if I can hear him on those. It's hard to say, those Californian (not just Bay Area) thrash/death bands always had people bouncing back and forth between each other.

Yes I know there's 2 6's mainly because shagrath and Vortex are both really good with eachother.
And for the record, I dislike Cannibal Corpses vocalist. Just thought I'd say that.

1. Average singer, average screamer, good rapper
2. Distinctive but ultimately annoying
3. Who?

5. Derivative to the point of plaguiarism

7. Not bad but once again, not my thing
While I can be quite subjective and recognise a good voice even if I don't like the style of music, most people here aren't so be prepared to defend your choices in an intelligent manner.

Haha, I was all confused that day. Especially when andrewc said "owned". How was I owned by a joke that was only half directed at me? Considering I was nowhere in the joke, I guess I wasn't exactly owned. But hey, whatever.
I'll also reiterate for this nu-metal kid that Godsmack suck and ripping off a whole other band does not make you awesome. If it does, I'd just go find some people, we'd rip off Suffocation, and we'd be the best band ever. Actually, we'd be derivative and pathetic, just like Godsmack are. Don't listen to the new Godsmack. Listen to the OLD Godsmack, back when they were called Alice in Chains, back before they sucked.

That's cool. Also Chad Grey is Mudvaynes vocalist. And I don't get what you meant by Sully?

Oh yeah, I know that Chad guy now - he's above average within his genre. Sully is a complete rip off of Layne Staley (Alice In Chains) and this fact has been well documented elsewhere within this forum - maybe even this thread, I believe.

I don't see where he got that either. I was just fuckin around.
I completely agree that godsmack rip off alice in chains. But i still listen to 'em
I try to just here music as music and try not to delve into the lives, opinions, etc. of musicians. I did that too much when i was younger. Who cares if jimmy joe bob is gay or racist or a rip off. If I like the music that a band creates, then I like the music. I listen to rap for fuck sakes! Most of those guys are fucking idiots. But I like the music.
