Sound proof?

I have my room above my garage and out of my house and from in the house you can't hear my playing drums but from outside you can hear me playing drums, guitar or cd player or even talking and I was wondering if I got that sound foam shit and put it over my windows around my room if it would help a bit to keep the sound from going out as much? I know it won't block ALL sound but am wondering if it will help a bit because the windows are pretty thin and I have 2 huge ones on both sides of my room and my room is a big ass rec room. I thought about getting some of this stuff and fitting it all in my windows and on my door down my stairs and fit it in the windows all nice and tightly...
What do you guy's think on this because I don't wan't to do my whole room in this foam since it will be TONs of money for how big it is and I just don't wan't them all over. I see some places there they have the foam like 2 feet apart and just a couple blocks on the walls to help the sound some, but would that work?
Any info would be great.
Thanks in advance!

i dont know about foam, but if you have curtains or something close them before you get into it, that should help a little (especially if they are really heavy backlined ones) basicaly anything that is "soft" will help to block sound, so if you have a spare foam matress (for when friends stay ro whatever) then put it in front of the window,, and that sort of thing

if you can hear outside and not through the rest of the huse then i would say that the problem is almost definately the windows. Though i dont know how you can not hear drums, there are drums in the room next to me, we have foam insulation in the walls and the other room has a wall lined with full bookshelves , so i dont know what is going on

Foam will help absorb the sound, i cant tell you how quite it will be but foam WILL make a difference.
