I got some too...
the old Anthrax tone on Among the Living (sounds so lively and oldskool)
Death's tone on Symbolic
the Obituary tone on World Demise
Arkangel's Dead Man walking's tone.
The Haunted's tone is neat too, pretty agressive...
Shockwave's tone on The Ultimate Doom
xDisciplex A.D.'s tone on Benediction and Heaven and Hell
if you're talking about unique tones, Tom Morello and Dino Cazares (love the super-dry distortion)
I guess thats my list for so far.

Viles tone on Depopulate
Micheal Amott's tone, in carcass he had a greta sound, and he still does in arch enemy he uses 5150's also
Cannibal Corpse's one on The Bleeding
Cephalic Carnage has a cool sound, i think they use some solid state randalls
Exhumed's tone.. they also uses 5150's

any idea how they get the tone on PFW def? or anyone? its so out there sounding
alexi does have a brilliant and likeable guitar tone too. all of their albums have the same sound, i dont know if they record in the same place or something but they all have a very distinct tone (with a few differences of course)

Pleasure to Kill - such a freakin oldschool sound
Agent Orange - Very similar to the sound I get out of my amp
Kerry's setup on 'Decade' - has an awesome tube roar, but at times actually a little TOO crunchy

WTF is that supposed to mean??
Thier earlier stuff sounded like ass cause they were just playing the same bullshit noise that everyone is. But they eventually evolved and created the masterpeice known as "Heartwork" and if you think that tone sucks... than god damn i feel sorry for you... yet after all im not surprised you think burzum has a good tone

My all time favorite tone is Dime's!!!!All Pantera albums have smashing guitar, my most favorit is Far Beyond driven, the tone is so RAW - pure agression!!!
Death - The Sound of Perseverance (can't belive Chuck got that tone on Marshall Valvestate)
Metallica - Master of Puppetz - Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+, amasing!!!
Deicide - Once upon the cross - real death metal rawness
Kataklysm - Prophecy - the sound is preety basic, but sound so amasing and live!!!
Immolation - Unholy Cult - totaly non-death sound, very original, rich and opened with lots of mids - Triple rectifier
Steve Vai - briliant solo sound, very heavy rithms (the guy's got rack size of a fridge)
Yngwie Malmsteen - true Marshall rock sound, preety good (considering his single coil DiMarzios)

Micheal is the one with the really smooth solo tone, Chris' is a bit more harsh. The easiest way to tell is if one is using a trem thats Chris.

Carcass' masterpiece was Necroticism. The songwriting, solos, vocals, lyrics, sound, and drums surpass everything they did before and after.

...I'm so proud to be a Liverpudlian: [slogan]"Liverpool, home to the Gods"[/slogan].
Anyway, my favourite tones are:
Cannibal Corpse on Gore Obsessed - it's the only CC album I own (yeah, I know, buy the other ones you muppet!) but the tone is so... crushingly heavy yet pristinely clear. Even though they tune to Bb on that album, you can hear every brutal note.
Nile on In Their Darkened Shrines - again, an excellent tone aided by a great production job made even more impressive by the fact that they tune to drop A.
Cryptopsy on And Then You'll Beg - they have evolved their tone over the course of the career to what it is on this album. They've retained the heavyness and that distinctive Cryptopsy feel while gaining more clarity. I just love Jon's neck pickup solo tone - especially on None So Vile and And Then You'll beg.
Most, if not all of the bands I like have got excellent tone, but these are the ones that are instantly memorable and a slight cut above the rest.

I actually would have put Chuck's, but it needs a little more bass to it. But then again, Chuck Schuldiner could not do wrong in my eyes.
